JR駅から松山城までの松山ウォーキングツアー

All right, everybody. Welcome back to the perfect walk. My name is Clint and today we are in Matsuyama and we’re going to walk to the castle. So, let’s see here. We are here. We need to go there. So, we need to go that way. We can do it. Don’t know much about this town. I think it is one of the largest towns on the island, but I’m not 10,000% sure. Here’s a look at the station. Little on the unspectacular side. There’s a tram system in this city that we’ll try and take advantage of here in a little bit. Let’s see. Does this say go to the other side of the street? I think it does. So, there’s the sightseeing map. archaeological site and then there’s the uh Dogo hotring and the onen here in the city as well which we will try and see because when in Rome. Let’s get this straightened. There we go. kind of cool. Intra City Street car stop. We’ll take that here in a little bit. But first, we want to walk and explore. I’d like to go there. That’s kind of cool. Some cool photos. clock cl me too. [Music] And we’ve got the bike corral and uh let’s go walking in Matsuyama. Lots of bikes in the city. Obviously kind of a gray day. Hopefully that burns off here in a little bit. But even if it doesn’t, we will make the most of it and enjoy ourselves. Very Different vibe in this city. The street cars are cool. I like that. So, instead of a subway system or a light rail system inside the city, it looks like the the street cars are the the way to go. Pretty neat. If you’re new to the channel, welcome. We do walks around the world in half hour episodes. Join us every week for a new walk for new from a new place. I think the castle is on top of a mountain here. It looked like it was in that sightseeing map or just a big park, but this is a pretty hilly area. Coming in on the train, which was a really fun trip, by the way. A couple hours from Takamatsu. Takyama. Takyama. Get a up close look at one of these street cars here. [Music] [Applause] [Music] This, in a very weird way, reminds me a little bit of Hakodate in southern Hokkaido. Oh, so there is a little bit of light rail in addition to the [Music] trams. Pretty cool. Maybe it’s just the age of things. [Applause] It is, for those of you wondering, 8:00 a.m. in the morning. I got up at 4:30 a.m., got on a train at 5:15, and headed out to West Shikoku. See some green up here. That’s a good sign. [Music] One of the things I really take pride in on this channel is continuing to bring you to places that uh you’re just not going to see elsewhere and not just the tourist bits, but the the real city, the real town, not just a 3minute video of the castle. So, if you enjoy this immersive type of travel walk, you’re in the right place. Come on, light. There we go. I had this vision of this castle kind of towering over things, but you’re just kind of pinned in by these eightstory buildings that are just tall enough, I think, to block the view of anything spectacular. I remember one of the coolest things about Heameji is as soon as you get off the train, you can look straight down this major street straight to the castle, which is a good look. This is more like uh going to Wales. What’s the capital of Wales? Good god. But yeah, you you kind of wander through town to get to this little street in front of the castle and then you can see the castle. Why can’t I think of the capital of Wales off the top of my head? Yikes. Getting old reading the paper. That is a cool way to read the paper every day. Neat that they posted. All right. I think this is going to be where the castle is. I think I think looks like there’s a moat. So, we’ll cross right here and see what’s up. We should have the light. And you can see it’s a fairly large city, sprawling in both directions. Lots of car traffic. Lots of car traffic. And here we have a moat with ducks. Pretty. And it looks like an earthen wall right here. So that’s why I think it’s the castle. It’s not a big stone wall like in Tokyo, but it’s an earthen fortification. [Music] Yeah. I don’t know why I expected the castle to be kind of on a mountain. No clue. pretty. Maybe pull up the map here in a little bit. But this looks like a gorgeous park andor castle grounds. See a lot of people walking and running over on the other side of the moat. And I see a big white swan coming up here. Folks from the city keeping it clean, picking up garbage, making sure there’s nothing. Absolutely nothing. Love that. There’s a tower in here. So maybe this is not the castle. Yeah, that looks like an office complex. Weird. There’s the swan I was telling you about. And it looks like a cornat. Those are the ones that sit on the edge of the boats. and go fishing with people. All right. Well, we’ll keep walking. And I can think I can say rather definitively right now that that’s not a castle. It still feels like castle grounds though. So, we’ll see if there’s another map up here. There’s certainly some signs. One of the things I’ve noticed on this island is that there’s a little bit less English going on on the signs than there was on Honu or even in Kyushu. Okay, the Museum of Art is this way. That must be the building that I thought looked like an office building. And the library. So, it’s a museum center and the public library is over here. It’s probably working worth walking through. I don’t think we’re missing too much on this street. Ah, wait. That’s why I thought it looked like a mountain. Look, doesn’t it? It does look like a mountain. So, if we walk through here, judicial affairs. How do we get Oh, cable car. Holy crap. Okay, so we want to walk through here, not up the mountain. So, we can walk through here and then out here and around to get to the cable car. Okay, that’s what we’ll do. A cable car. Heck yeah. One of my absolute favorite things about Japan, ropeways and cable cars. This is pretty. So, it’s a big enough mountain to have a ropeway. That’s so fun. I wonder how big the mountain is if we can’t see it from here. Interesting. It was helpful to have that sign, though. Tells us we’re on the right track. All right. So, we’ll come up here and take a ride at the first big commuter path. That looks like the public library right there. No, that’s the NHK building. Okay. So, there’s a lot going on in here. Art museums, public library, the NHK building with tower. Lots to see. And hopefully we’ll hang a ride up here and see a mountain with a castle on it. That would be ideal. I knew it was on a mountain. I’m sure I saw it in a Google image or something when I was pulling up Google Maps to figure out what train to get on this morning. Train was a little pricey this morning. It was a $50 train ride. I’m still like I think I’m still in break even territory for passing on the Japan Rail Pass this trip. Oh, there’s a mountain and a castle on top. Son of a gun. Okay, now we’re talking. It’s exactly what I wanted to see. It’s behind these trees. I’ll show it to you in a second here. Oh god, something smells great. What is that smell? What is that smell? I don’t see any restaurants around and that might be the best smelling thing I’ve ever smelled. I’m so sorry, y’all. What? Where is that coming from? That’s a coffee shop, but it’s closed. Oh, some kind of sweet curry smell. Oh my god, that’s not fair. Absolutely not fair. What is that smell? Please be like some food truck around here. This looks like the art museum with gift shop. All right. And here we go. Hold on. That’s where we’re going. See it? Let’s walk over to the other path. We can get a picture. All right, I nabbed a picture. Now it’s time to get to walking. All right. So, the thing said walk out this way to the side of the mountain and we can get on the cable car. So, we’ll give it the old college try and we’ll probably take this video right to the base of the mountain and next video will be cable car if it’s on. Man, what if it’s only a weekend thing? H. So hopefully cable car and castle and hopefully not long walk uphill and castle. Oh, that would not be great. It is way too early to walk up a mountain. And then we’ll probably do a third video which will be the onen as I continue to explore this city and see what it has to offer. That sun is trying to peek out but just not having any success at this point. This is a massive kind of community park space. Big green over here. Lots of benches. Yeah, very nice public restroom. Japan has incredibly clean public restrooms. Wonder what that secondary building halfway up the mountain is. Some sort of associated fort or even potentially a temple, but it has walls like a fort or castle. Man, the one up there is so good. Look how pretty it is. All right, back out to the main street and then a left hopefully to a nice little tramway or cable car or something, ropeway. We’ll see. It’s not the tallest mountain. So I would have thought maybe like a vernicular but maybe this is much cheaper. I don’t know the economy of uphill transportation. I guess a bus is probably actually always the cheapest. It’s what most places use, but Japan has such a variety of interesting transportation. I’ve even been to the same city and taken a a tram, a bus, a train, and a cable car, which I actually may do again today. All right. I think we go this way and then around. I think that’s an interesting building here. Looks like a government building. Yeah, this looks like a little Oh, it’s the post office. The perfeual. No, the perfectional office. So, yeah, that’s city hall. All right, there we go. [Music] Yeah, definitely like a state house. I believe this is the capital of the prefecture. So that would make it like the state house. rather than city hall. Pretty impressive building. Yeah, very very impressive building. All right. Hopefully the next left will get us right into the tram. Not the tram. That’s the tram. The cable car or ropeway or whatever that image on that map was. I might, if it’s an interesting thing, use it as the thumbnail for the walk next time. I won’t tease y’all by using it as the thumbnail this time. If we’re not getting on it this time, I might make that image of the castle the thumbnail this [Music] time. This town feels very businesslike. Businessike. Looks like everybody has a plan. I I haven’t seen maybe the main shopping area. Um, feels like a a city more like I’m used to. Maybe it just feels less residential. That might be it. It might feel more like this is a city core rather than as mixed use as some of the other Japanese cities that I love so much. But to be fair, I’ve only been here for like a half an hour. So, still figuring it out. Just sharing my initial impressions. You’ll have to let me know if you’ve been here before and what you thought of the city. [Music] Looks like another government building. and some hotels. All right, left turn up here. Looks like that’s our path to the castle. There’s a cool building tucked back in there. District Court. And there’s a museum back there. I bet the interesting one is the museum. All right. So it looks like maybe in lie of big shopping areas like looks like maybe shopping centers like vertical shopping centers. Oh hello little car. You can’t park there. Matsuyama Castle, 50 m. Well, that sounds about right. That’s where we’re going. Very helpful sign. And that’s a sign for the cars. So, that means 50 m we turn left. Not the castle’s at 50 m. Always tricky to figure out sometimes in Japan. Who is this sign for? It’s a sign here for the cars, for the pedestrians, for the cyclists. That one’s for the cars. But it is helpful enough to know that this is our turn. Excited to see another castle. Uh, Japanese castles are very different than European castles. built to withstand different types of warfare and onslaught. There’s another little map. So, now we are here. Oh, cable car platform. So, we walked past the junior high school to get to the cable car platform down cablec car street. All right. And then in the grand scheme of things, where is ah here’s the onen doggo onen. That’s where we want to go next. So once we see the castle and go up and down the cable car, maybe we’ll hop the tram line over to the onen so that we can ride the tram as well. Sounds like a good play. So this is cable car street. And it looks like maybe this street has more stuff going on a little bit later in the day. It’s still 8:30 a.m.ish. Most things open up around 10 910. But also some things in an area around a castle like this might just be a Saturday Sunday thing. Cafe Flare. Woo. All right. This looks like Castle Parking, but remember, we have to walk past a high school. It’s a very calm street. I think I like this a [Music] lot. All right. Now, these signs are for the pedestrians. So, let’s see. Oh, this is the junior high school to the left. Birthplace of the Akiyama brothers. The ropeway platform. Ropeway now is 250 m. So is it a cable car or a ropeway? Let only the eager, thoughtful, reverent enter here. Huh? I’m at least one of those things. I think you have to be all three to go in though. Oh, it’s a bakery. That looks pretty tasty, not going to lie. But I’m saving myself for lunch. McDonald’s. cuz I didn’t see a McDonald’s. Thankfully, it’s really intent on us turning around. There’s another McDonald’s sign up here. Wonder how they got the permission to hang a bunch of McDonald’s signs on the main street. Yes, I very much like this street. Less cars. That’s why I think I just hate cars. Nice. 15. Oh, it it is both. It is both. I see a cable car and a ropeway. We get to choose. That’s so cool. Botchen pudding. Botchen is a novel that is based here in Matsuyama. It’s a very famous Japanese novel kind of required reading almost like the grapes of wrath in the United States or catch her in the eye botchen. So very famous here. I have not read it, but you can and tell me how it is. Oh, it looks like a BMI restaurant. tie stand. No, it’s not Bonmese. On the sign, it looked like Bonmese. Huh. Looks like pastries maybe. Interesting. Yeah, looks like some cool restaurants down here by the castle, unsurprisingly in this little tourist zone. I bet it’s popping on the weekends. Just got to figure out where to get on the cable car. I see a lot of halfopen doors to these businesses, so things will open up in a little bit. Maybe when I come back down here. All right. Is this a cable car station? exit this way to the entrance. Yes, it is. All right, everyone. Thank you so much for the support. I’m going to go buy a ticket and I will chair lift. Yes. All right. See you the next walk, everybody.

  1. Another nice and enjoyable walk in Japan😎Thank you for sharing this Wander🙂👍!!!

  2. This city had a bit of Invasion of the body snatchers vibe. They got some spooky trees lining their roads. That would be Cardiff I do believe, capitol of Wales.
