Leaving Heaven Behind: Ep 5 The Most Epic Bike Ride from Chitkul to Kalpa

Hello, how are you all? I’m in Chitkul village, and it ‘s around 7:00 in the morning. As I told you in the last episode, we haven’t fully explored Chitkul yet. So today, we ‘re going to explore Chitkul village first. We’re going to see it, experience its culture, and see how the people are. After breakfast, we ‘ll begin our journey to Kalpa. So, let’s start our journey from Chitkul to Kalpa. The roads speaks its tale, and I narrate it to you. Welcome to Spit Ladakh Series Episode 5. So cute, from hello to hi to hi, playing with the innocent village children, time literally stands still. So, I’m in India’s last village, and as you walk down these narrow roads early in the morning, there’s a unique scent. Old wooden Himachali houses and small waterfalls flowing down the mountainside. The slow pace of life here brings a strange peace to the heart. Simplicity pervades every courtyard, and early in the morning, people begin their daily routine. And yes, there ‘s even a small school here. You can hear the sounds of children playing and jumping around in the early morning. Seeing these children brings back memories of our school days. The only difference is that they live in this little paradise, while we grew up in a crowded and noisy city. You see that grandmother and that little child. How beautiful, isn’t it? Every step along the unpaved path feels like home. And yes, there ‘s a small temple in the middle of the village, also known as Matti Dipal. So let’s take you there. Let’s spend some time there. So, we’ve thoroughly explored Satkul village, and what I’ve shown you in this video isn’t complete. So, be sure to check out our previous episodes for more . We also showed the riverside of this village there, and it’s beautiful. So go ahead and check out that video. Also, how did you like this village, or which is your favorite village? Do let us know in the comments. And, as I told you, we ‘re about to head to Kalpa. Kalpa is a very important village in the Kinnaur Valley and a very beautiful one. So, we’re going to take our bike and head there. I’ve already tucked all my bags onto my bike. Now all that’s left is to start the ride. So, let’s start the journey toward Kalpa. Let’s enjoy the journey. So, we’ve left Chitkul Village. Goodbye to this beautiful village. I mean, such a beautiful village is worth visiting. It was absolutely beautiful. Beyond that, it’s the same roads, the same potholes, the same sound of the Baspa, and the same throttle. I mean, when I get on the bike, I get a unique thrill. All you bikers out there will be able to relate to me. Come on, it was really important to stop here. It’s so sunny, so I’ll just take off my jacket. Just give me a bottle of water. Anyway, the roads are a bit dusty. There are a few bumps here. Still, let’s continue on towards Sangla. After reaching Sangla, we need to fill up the bike with some petrol. So, after filling up, we’ll move on. Actually, we last filled up near Kortgarh. So now I feel like we’re running low. So, Sangla is just around the corner. Let’s fill up there. Here we are, the petrol pump. Now, let’s satisfy our bike’s hunger. So, we’ve filled up the bike with petrol, and now we’ve left Sangla. So, again, the same routes, the same roads that I showed you in Episode 3. Beyond that, let’s just continue towards Kalpa. Our first stop is Karcham. So, let’s check out the Karcham Dam. If we feel like stopping, we can. Otherwise , I’m thinking of stopping directly at Kalpa. When you travel from Sangla to Karcham or from Karcham to Sangla, you’ll see a lovely temple dedicated to Goddess Durga. You can stop there and visit her. I can’t stop here right now because I need to reach Kalpa early today. Otherwise, it will be night. Besides, the next time I’m going to Chitkul, I ‘ll definitely stop at this temple. Until then, Jai Maa Durga. So, we’ve reached Karcham, and perhaps Animesh and Divyanshu are left behind here, so I’ll stop for a while. Actually, there’s a town called Rekong Peo before Kalpa. So, when we crossed Karcham, two roads diverged. There’s a narrow path, a new path, a shortcut. So we took that route, and Animesh and Divyanshu… He took NH 5, which is an old route. It’s not the old route, it’s the main road, in a way. So he took that route. So it’s probably a long distance, and the new route we’re taking is the new route. This route looks very nice, and when we asked a local, he told us it was also good and a better route. So let’s continue on this route. This time, Animesh’s bike and mine will take different routes to Kalpa. So let’s enjoy this new route. Let’s explore the beautiful beauty of Kalpa from this new route. Actually, when you reach Recongio, the road already cuts off towards Kalpa. So, we’re not going to touch Recongio yet. We ‘ll go straight to Kalpa Village. Yes, there are a lot of utes on the way. But the good part is that the road is very good. So, you can easily take this route when you ‘re going to Kalpa from Chitkul or Sangla. We’ve reached Kalpa, and there’s a steep slope I’m currently climbing, and only one vehicle can pass at a time. This is the worst thing. If I’m driving out of here and a vehicle comes from the other side, it’ll be a huge hassle. That’s why we have to drive all the way around, honking all the time. Anyway, our hostel is just 1.5 kilometers away. So let’s quickly head towards it. So, we’re almost there, and as we’re here, I’ve realized that the roads are quite narrow, and the place we’re staying at is a little higher than the rest of the village. So, I think the view from here should be good. Let’s see. Now that we’ve arrived, let’s see what the property is like. Oh, my calculations have gone wrong again, and Animesh and Divyanshu have already arrived before us. We’re late, somehow. Now, let’s unpack our bags and head back to the hotel. I’m quite tired today. So let’s go. Ready to get into the water . This part is now, Shalu. So, I’ve arrived in Kalpa, and here, where I’m staying, the views— when you stay at this property and look out from here— are absolutely stunning. Besides, let me show you this beautiful view from the property I’m staying at. Let me show you the Kalpa Valley. After reaching Kalpa, we were quite tired, so we didn’t have the courage to go and explore Kalpa Village. We ‘re going to explore that tomorrow. So, today we stayed at this property and enjoyed ourselves, played games, had dinner, and we’re just waiting for tomorrow so we can explore Kalpa Village properly. So, what I didn’t expect from Kalpa happened. Actually it is very cold here and I am still relying on this t-shirt. Yes. Now I feel that I will have to switch to a jacket soon. Otherwise there is no solution. Till then, please tell me how you liked Chitkul and how did you like the ride till here? How did you like the ride till Kalpa? Do tell me in the comments. I will be very happy to know . And yes, if you have also done such a journey or have done any such journey, then do tell me about it too. Apart from this, if you liked the video, then do like and subscribe and yes, don’t forget to press the bell icon. See you in the next episode. Till then, let the roads speak and I will narrate it. Thank you.
