【鹿児島の自然】歴史のある町・姶良を巡る
Hello, this is Yabi’s Journey. This journey will take us through Kagoshima’s rich natural landscapes and the historic town of Aira City. We’ve arrived at Shirakane Slope, a historic cobblestone hill. About 200 years ago, it was used as the main highway. This steep slope has an elevation difference of over 300 meters, making passage extremely difficult. Even today, 2.7 km of its original form remains. As I walked, I felt a strange sensation, as if I had slipped back in time. Following the path along the hillside, a walking trail continues onward toward the waterfall. Enjoy refreshing forest bathing amidst the sound of the river and lush greenery. I finished climbing the long staircase. A waterfall cascading down from a height of 20m came into view. Because it looks like a white cloth, it is called “Nunobiki Falls.” I came to the nearby Atago Shrine. It is written that it was built about 250 years ago. To reach the main hall, you climb a staircase of about 170m. I’ve been climbing a lot today, so my legs are getting tired. I finally finished the stairs. A beautiful view came into sight. I’m glad I came up! And then the main hall came into view. He is enshrined as the god of fire and is said to offer protection against fire. The view from here was amazing! Shirakane Shuzo, founded in 1869. The oldest shochu distillery in Kagoshima Prefecture, Shirakane no Tsuyu sweet potato shochu is a smooth shochu beloved locally. A stunning landscape stretches out for about 600 meters, featuring white sand and pine forests. The sound of the waves and the sea breeze feel so refreshing. Sakurajima, the symbol of Kagoshima, came into view. I have come to the site of Shimazu Yoshihiro’s first battle, a Satsuma warrior who distinguished himself during the Warring States period. This is the site of “Hiramatsu Castle,” which was inhabited approximately 470 years ago. This is an old stone bridge built during the Edo period, full of character. On the rugged peak of Iwatsurugi-dake
stood Iwatsurugi Castle. At its base stands Iwatsurugi Shrine. This shrine also has deep ties to Shimazu Yoshihiro. This is a stone triumphal arch, a very rare sight in Japan.
