【鎌倉】夏の終わり、鎌倉カフェ&雑貨屋巡り
Today, I visited Kamakura, mainly to explore cafes and general stores. The cafe was spacious, with large windows that created a sense of openness. There was also terrace seating. It appears to be attached to a hotel. It’s a convenient three-minute walk from the station, making it convenient for overnight stays. I chose an iced coffee and an iced matcha latte. I love the moment the latte mixes. The sweetness was just right. The cafe also had a wide selection of general goods. It was fun to browse the many unique designs. I felt happy to be in such a wonderful place to start the morning. I headed to the next cafe. This cafe also has one at the west exit, but this time I chose the one at the east exit. Dine-in is available, but seating is only available on the terrace. I ordered iced coffee. My other order was masala chai. It was cool in Kamakura this morning, so I enjoyed the terrace seating comfortably. For dinner, I ordered churros. They’re only available at the east exit. The freshly fried churros were crispy! Covered in cinnamon sugar, they were delicious. Thank you for the meal. Now, on to my next stop. After a short bus ride, we headed to a place of interest. Surrounded by trees, a short distance from Kamakura Station, we arrived at this spot. It’s said to have been founded on the spot where Saint Nichiren built a thatched hut after arriving in Kamakura from Awa Province in 1253. The approach to the temple is beautiful and well-maintained. It’s a quiet, peaceful place, completely free of the hustle and bustle of the area around the station. The greenery is beautiful now, but the autumn foliage is sure to be spectacular. I’m looking forward to the coming season! This is the main hall. There’s also a spot called Fujimidai, where you can get a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji, but we gave up on it due to the intense heat. This is Goshoan (small hermitage). The interior of the hall is currently closed to the public. The temple grounds are home to natural monuments such as camellias and Myoho cherry blossoms. The best time to see the camellias is mid-November. Visiting the temple in this tranquil setting was refreshing. There appear to be three temples in the area. We headed to our next destination. Myohoji Temple was founded in 1253, the 5th year of the Kencho era. It is a sacred temple built on the site where Saint Nichiren established Kamakura’s Matsubayadani as a missionary base and built a small hermitage. It is also known as Kamakura’s premier “moss temple.” You can receive incense after paying the admission fee. Walking along the route, you soon come across the vermilion-lacquered Niomon Gate. Behind this gate, there appear to be stone steps. Beautiful moss-covered stone steps, shining in the sunlight filtering through the trees, appear. To preserve their beauty, the steps are off-limits. The best time to see the fresh greenery is from April to June, but September is also beautiful. The beautiful scenery soothes me. I headed to my next destination. I returned to the station area. This shop is apparently famous for its jams and scones. They have a selection of rare and unique jams. Inside the shop, I was greeted by a wide selection of jams. I sampled their figs. They were delicious, I’ll buy some. There were so many flavors to choose from, it was hard to decide. They also had tea that would go perfectly with the sweets. The scones were located in front of the register. The store had a wonderful aroma. They also had a wide selection of items that would make perfect souvenirs. It was a very hot day, so I was drawn to the ice cream next to the register and bought some. I chose the mascarpone milk ice cream with white peach, plum, and apricot jam. The combination of jam, cheese, and rich milk was a perfect match. If you love ice cream or are looking for a unique Kamakura souvenir, this is a must-visit! I finally arrived at a tableware shop I’d been interested in for a while. This shop is a sister store of the one in Ebisu. This is just my personal opinion, but the store is larger and less crowded than the Ebisu store, making it easier to browse the products. They had a wide selection of beautiful tableware. The prices were reasonable, making me want to collect them all. In addition to tableware, they also had a wide selection of cups and cutlery. The Kamakura store also has a cafe, so you can take a break while you shop. They have a huge selection, from simple designs to unique pieces. Time flies when you’re trying to decide what to buy. It was so much fun browsing. I plan to return here many times and continue to add more to my collection. Finally, I went to a cake shop I’ve been interested in. The Western-style exterior is lovely. I’m curious about their summer-only items… The shop is filled with beautiful cakes. It was Saturday, but there weren’t many people! I’d found a hidden gem. The atmosphere was quiet and calm, and I felt like I could relax. For drinks, I ordered iced tea and iced latte. This is the Genjiyama Freshly Squeezed Mont Blanc. I also ordered matcha tiramisu. First, the matcha tiramisu. The matcha syrup soaked into the sponge, making it delicious. It melted so easily I couldn’t stop eating. And here is the freshly squeezed Mont Blanc, which I absolutely had to try. Fresh cream and crispy meringue are hidden within the chestnut paste. Everything went perfectly together, and I recommend anyone who loves Mont Blanc to give it a try. Both cakes were delicious, and I’m curious to try their other items. It was so good! I’ll definitely be back.
