【4K】横浜・みなとみらい散歩|桜木町駅から大さん橋まで|日本の美しい街歩き / Yokohama City Walk, Japan
Today I’ll leave Sakuragicho and take a walk around Minato Mirai. I’ll go to Osanbashi Pier via Sakuragicho Station and the foot of the Landmark. The summer sky is spreading and the Landmark looks beautiful! The building on the left is a facility called Collete Mare. It seems that the facility is operated by Sumitomo Urban Development. It is the same company that operates Harumi Triton (a facility in Chuo Ward, Tokyo). When you say that, it certainly seems like it. The hotel shown on the screen is the Washington Hotel . Recently, hotel accommodation prices have been rising in Japan, and this hotel also costs about 20,000 yen per night… It looks a little old, but the inside seems nice. I’ve never heard of a business hotel that costs 20,000 yen. I thought the average price for a business hotel was about 5,000 yen, but where are those days now? Fujisoft Headquarters Building JR Sakuragicho Station The building you can see to the right is AirCabin, a new tourist spot in Minato Mirai called “Urban Circulation Ropeway”. It’s a walking distance, but you can see it from above for 1000 yen one way. By the way, a round trip ticket costs 1800 yen. Personally, I think it’s more refreshing to take the ropeway one way and walk back. Did you know that there is a Ferris wheel in Minato Mirai? It is inside an amusement park called Cosmo World, and the company that runs it is also involved in AirCabin. The facility in front is Collete Mare (this facility has a cafe called STORY STORY YOKOHAMA, which is a hidden gem) You are walking on the Minato Mirai Moving Walkway, which connects JR Sakuragicho Station and Yokohama Landmark Tower. I like it because you can move around without getting wet even on rainy days. Many tourists use it because you can move around slowly while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Minato Mirai. The Landmark Tower is home to the Royal Park Hotel, but it will undergo major repairs from 2025 and is scheduled to reopen after 2028. I’ve been a Yokohama resident for many years (or maybe because of that?) but I’ve never had the chance to stay there… sad Minato Mirai is home to many companies, and the Landmark Tower also has many office tenants. FM Yokohama broadcasts from the 10th floor of this building. The building towering next to the Landmark Tower is a company called JGC. It’s in Queens Square Building A. I didn’t stop at the Landmark Tower, but went down to the ground on the stairs halfway down. When you think of residences in Minato Mirai, you think of tower mansions. The Tower that appears on the right side of the screen is directly connected to Yokohama Kitanaka Bashamichi, and because of its location in Minato Mirai, it’s quite expensive (as of July 2025). A 1LDK is priced at 71.8 million yen on SUUMO. I wonder if they’re buying it as a second home? The ship that I’ve been seeing is the sailing ship Nippon Maru, which was once used as a training ship. It’s amazing that this ship can go around the earth 45.4 times. Ryohei Yanagihara is a Japanese illustrator, graphic designer, picture book author, animator, and essayist. He loves ships and has worked on many works with ships as a theme. He loves Yokohama and has many works set in Yokohama. You can see the APA Hotel tower on the other side. I walked to the Dog Yard Garden area on Sakura Street . I thought Minato Mirai would be easy to visit because everything is gathered in one place, but it’s actually quite far away… There are bicycle share services everywhere, so it’s fun to go around by bicycle. The Minato Mirai Line is quite expensive. Queens Square is on the left. Building A is mainly occupied by a company called JGC. It consists of Minato Mirai Tokyu Square, Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu, and Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall. It’s expensive. On the right across the road is an amusement park called Cosmo World. Hey, are there any electric wires? Perhaps because of this, the sky is wide open. The Nippon Maru is about to depart and is changing direction. You can also see the Asuka chimney a little to the right. This is the famous sail-shaped hotel, the Yokohama Grand Intercontinental Hotel. You can see Yokohama Port and the Ferris wheel at Cosmo Clock 21. This luxury hotel facility is part of Pacifico Yokohama. It has 1 basement floor and 31 floors above ground, and has 594 rooms. The building is 140m tall . Construction began in 1989 and opened on August 20, 1991. If you look closely at the tip, you will see a bronze goddess statue . This goddess statue, named “Michibiki” (guidance), was installed when the hotel opened in hopes of Yokohama’s flight and world peace. On the left you can see “Manyo Club”. The admission fee for a day trip to the hot spring is 3,500 yen per person, which is quite expensive. On the right you can see a brown building, from which many people come out carrying balloon-like bags. This is the Cup Noodle Museum. You can make your own original “Cup Noodle” that is one of a kind in the world, and it seems to be popular with tourists. You can choose your favorite soup from four types and four toppings from 12 types of ingredients in the cup you designed yourself. Next to the Audi is the wedding venue Grand Oriental Minato Mirai, which overlooks the sea in front of it, making it a great wedding spot. Let’s take a look inside MARINE & WALK . This facility is an open mall-type commercial facility by Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development . Mitsubishi Estate is the main developer of Minato Mirai’s urban development, and Mitsubishi Group companies are also involved, so it makes sense. It seems that Mitsubishi Estate PM was initially involved in the operation and management of the facility, but it will be transferred to the Tokyo Tatemono Group from July 2023. The sea is right there. A luxurious sense of distance. There are many shops that make you want to stop by , but they are expensive, so I always pass them by. A long time ago, a friend told me about a cafe called “Zebra Cafe,” and I sometimes go there when I feel like working while being rocked by the sea breeze. Oh, by the way, I am currently a location-free remote worker. The good thing about remote work is that you can do what you like immediately after work. I hate commuting anyway… The sea is so close! You can see the Japan Coast Guard building and ships. And on this side is the Intercontinental Hotel, and on the other side is the sail-shaped Intercontinental. Then, Marine & Walk. The exterior is made of red bricks. The cityscape has a sense of unity as if it were an extension of the Red Brick Warehouse . Classic and warm brick design that suits the seaside. Bricks, breeze , and the sound of the port. Bricks make you feel warm and calm, don’t they? If it was near my parents’ house (in the countryside), it would instantly turn into Aeon , but Minato Mirai has managed to maintain its unique lineup . Speaking of which, the other day, Minato Mirai and Sakuragicho were ranked number one in a ranking of the best places to live. Sakuragicho and Minato Mirai feel slightly different, but what do you think? Personally, Sakuragicho is in Noge and I think of it as a drinking district. On the other hand, Minato Mirai is right around here where I’m walking. Bashamichi is the closest, but even that has a Minato Mirai feel to it. What about Chinatown? I think of Chinatown as Motomachi Chinatown (I’m talking completely from my intuition…) , so I feel a bit strange that Minato Mirai and Sakuragicho are grouped together, but I also think it’s amazing that they’re number one. Or rather, is it correct to understand that people who live in Minato Mirai are basically people who live in high-rise apartments? Of course, it would be easy to live in if the wealthy lived in a good location in Minato Mirai. On the other hand, places like Ebisu and Hiroo, while they rank highly in the rankings of places people want to live, don’t seem to rank that highly in the rankings of cities that are easy to live in. The image you have before you move in is quite different from the image you have after you move in. While we were talking, we arrived at Elephant’s Nose Park. Characterized by a curved embankment (breakwater) that resembles an elephant’s trunk , this park was renovated in 2009 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port. It also has Elephant’s Nose Cafe attached to it. It doesn’t really feel like a park, more like a seaside plaza. There was a sign saying that bicycles were prohibited, so we didn’t go into the park. Now, it’s time to head towards Osanbashi Pier. Please enjoy the video for a moment. This is the entrance to Osanbashi Pier! Yokohama Port Osanbashi Terminal has a history of over 130 years as the “gateway to the sea” since the port of Yokohama was opened, and has become one of Yokohama’s most famous tourist spots. In kanji, it is written as sanbashi, but the official spelling is “Osanbashi” mixed with hiragana. Elementary schools in Yokohama sometimes go to Osanbashi as part of their school events (I’ve experienced this). This building, with its distinctive inverted triangular appearance at the top, is the Osanbashi Pier Building. The first floor is used as a waiting area for pleasure boats and houseboats that dock at the adjacent pier, and the second to fifth floors are offices. The Asuka II, a cruise ship operated by Nippon Yusen Cruises, a subsidiary of Nippon Yusen, is registered (home port) in Yokohama Port. It is a very modern and distinctive building. It’s a walk from here. Apparently, the Asuka was anchored there just a while ago, but it was late and had already passed by… It seems that four ships up to 30,000 tons and two ships over that can dock at the same time can dock there. Inside, the building is characterized by a large, pillar-free space, and there is a lobby for immigration procedures, a glass-enclosed multipurpose hall, cafes and shops. The rooftop, consisting of a wooden deck and a lawn, is a place of relaxation for citizens and tourists, and is visited by more than 3 million people a year, making it a popular tourist spot in Yokohama. The architectural design of Osanbashi Pier was decided through an international design competition in order to make it a symbol of Yokohama Port that future generations can be proud of. 660 works were submitted from 41 countries around the world, which was the highest number of entries ever made in an international competition held in Japan at the time. The winning work was selected as the work of Alejandro Zaera Polo (from Spain) and Farshid Mousavi (from Iran), architects living in the UK. There are no steps, and each floor is connected by a slope, eliminating the basic concept of a normal building, which is the first floor and the second floor . It makes it unclear where you are in the building, and gives you a strange feeling that you are fused with the building. In addition, the building is designed like a lasagna, with various floors and surfaces overlapping, making it a “space with plenty of mobility” that makes you feel like you have already walked down a path before. Osanbashi Pier is designed so that the building height is lower than the cruise ship so as not to block the view from the cruise ship. When a ship enters the port, the first thing you see is the people of Yokohama gathering on the rooftops, giving the impression that they are being welcomed by the citizens. In this way, it is designed to be a place where cruise ships and citizens can meet. Over the course of about 10 years since 1989, the old pier was removed, and the current terminal , the seventh generation, was completed in 2002 after construction work such as ground improvement and land reclamation on the seabed . Let’s go to the tip! It’s surprisingly wide, or rather, the total length is 480m, and it’s a great spot for runners, as it’s just under 1km round trip . By the way, the width is 100m. The area is about 2.6ha 1ha = 10,000m2, so 2.6ha is 26,000m2 The area of a typical schoolyard is about 1ha to 1.5ha The area of the grounds of the Tokyo Dome is about 1.3ha When I was in elementary school, I had trouble converting units. Ares and hectares are units that were created to clearly express large areas of land, and are particularly useful in agriculture, real estate, and urban development. I’ve come to the tip. There’s nothing special about it, but I’m drawn to the tip. I’d like to go to the very end of Japan . The tip is not just the end, but a place where the sea and the city of Yokohama are connected, and it’s a very open and scenic spot. I can see Yokohama from the tip, which is beautiful . What is King Queen Jack? King (Kanagawa Prefectural Office Main Building), Queen (Yokohama Customs), Jack (Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall). It is said that the foreign sailors at the time compared it to a playing card . Next, we head to Mark Is. As I explained earlier, Yokohama Port is the port of Asuka! Asuka Cruise’s parent company is Nippon Yusen , a shipping company with its headquarters in Marunouchi, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, it seems that they are considering rebuilding their Tokyo headquarters , and during the rebuilding period, they plan to temporarily relocate their headquarters to a high-rise building under construction in Yokohama City. The building you can see on the right is Nippon Yusen’s Yokohama Yusen Building. Minato Mirai is an office, how enviable . The brick-like building on the right is a UR property called Charelle Kaigandori. A housing complex in such a place?! It’s a stylish property in such a good location. Since it’s UR, I think you can live cheaply with no initial costs. *There are no applications at this time. The tower mansion that appeared at the beginning of the video is back again , and it’s huge. The Tower Yokohama Kitanaka is a 58-story apartment building completed in October 2019. It’s conveniently located just a 1-minute walk from Bashamichi Station, with no tall buildings around and a great view! But now, you can see that they are trying to build a huge tower mansion right in front of you. One is Brands Tower Yokohama Kitanaka (2 minutes walk from Bashamichi), a super high-rise tower mansion. It has a total of 704 residences , and the other is La Tour Yokohama (Laxuary Apartment) . Sumitomo Real Estate’s top rental residence “La Tour” makes its first foray into Yokohama. Who will live there?! By the way, there is also a hotel. Hilton’s Laxuary Brand Conrad There are currently two Conrads in Japan (Tokyo and Osaka), and Yokohama will be added to the list. The first to 16th floors above ground will be “Conrad Yokohama”, and the 18th to 40th floors will be “(tentative name) La Tour Yokohama”. I’m excited to see such a big building project. Will it obstruct the view from The Tower Kitanaka that already exists? I wonder if they won’t say “I bought it for 100 million yen, but…” If they say that it’s OK in terms of sunlight rights as long as there is a little bit of sun, I can’t stand it if I can’t see anything at all. It was all fiction . Now, this video is coming to an end. Mark is also close. Mark is a standalone commercial facility of the Mitsubishi Estate Group. In other words, it’s a facility like Lalaport. Lalaport is Mitsui. I have the image that outlets are run by Mitsui, but Gotemba Outlet was Mitsubishi. I’m getting off track, but Minato Mirai is developed by a Mitsubishi group, so is Mark is. Besides Minato Mirai, there are Mark Is in Shizuoka, Fukuoka, and Katsushika. Mark is Minato Mirai is located in front of the Yokohama Museum of Art across Grand Mall Park. The building is 6 stories above ground and 4 stories below ground, with a commercial facility area of approximately 43,000 m2 (4.3 ha). It is a life entertainment mall targeting “three-generation families” from families raising children to their parents . There is also a movie theater. Lawson United Cinema STYLE-S The first new store of Lawson United Cinema, which changed its name from Minato Mirai United Cinema, is the next-generation brand name “STYLE-S”. This is Grand Mall Park, which runs north to south for about 700 meters through the central area of the Minato Mirai district. The park has been renovated over a period of about two years since 2015, so it is beautiful! This is the Yokohama Museum of Art, which will be closed for the first time since its opening in February 2021 (Reiwa 3) due to renovation work. It will reopen in March 2024, and will reopen as a regular art museum in February 2025. A complex art facility with three pillars: “See, Create, Learn”. Only indoor facilities can win on hot summer days. Mark Is Minato Mirai, with a rather uneven exterior . I walk around thinking that it must be expensive. It is connected to the Minato Mirai Station direct access on the 4th basement floor, so you can feel safe even in the rain . The facility is made of glass, and there are various stylish shops. Do you know HOKA? Hoka One One is a shoe brand that is well known for its thick midsole products. Hoka One One is a brand that combines elements from various countries. It originated in Annecy, France, Europe. It is currently part of Deckers, a global footwear company. Its development base is Santa Barbara, California, USA. Please try them on (I use them as running shoes) Here is Blue Bottle Coffee, famous for being expensive (?) Founded in Oakland, California, USA, coffee is usually 450 yen or more, but now it’s a price that you can get at Starbucks. The coffee is ground after receiving an order, and the barista drips it one cup at a time. I’ve been there a few times, but I personally didn’t think it was that delicious…I ‘m going home from Minatomirai Station today, so I’ll pass by Mark is. It’s cool~ Well, thank you for watching for such a long time today. I tried editing the subtitles from YouTube. Even though they are subtitles, the conversation goes off topic in various ways, so I thought it would be more convenient if I could turn them on and off. However , even if I wanted to insert this here, it’s difficult because it’s already uploaded, so I think editing is quite difficult. Thank you for your continued support.
