【女ひとり旅】秋を感じる車中泊。車内で起きた想像以上の事態

Good evening, I’m Sachi. I’m heading out alone again tonight. I wonder if the other side of this tunnel leads to another world? Whoops, my bad habit of daydreaming has surfaced again.Lol I’ll spend the night at a rest area near tomorrow’s destination. I’ve been here a few times before. But this is my first time staying overnight. A few years ago, I think this place had a slightly scary atmosphere at night. What about tonight? If it’s too creepy, I’ll move. It’s not scary at all. I feel relieved. The outdoor unit for my A/C is loud. I parked far away from the other cars. It’s cool outside. Maybe I don’t even need the A/C. …It’s still muggy inside the car. I definitely have to turn the A/C on. I’ll change into these worn-out shorts. It would be great if I could just leave the door open with a screen. But I can’t risk security issues. It’s time for dinner. Using what I brought and what I bought, I’m going to make a Japanese-style set meal. I pretend to care about my health by adding whole grains. Lol Should I add more water? Yeah, I’ll add a little more just in case. Tonight’s main dish is Salt-grilled Pacific saury. I bought it at a convenience store. It doesn’t have much of a fishy smell. I don’t have a microwave, so I’ll grill it. It’s so soft it looks like it’ll fall apart any minute. Be careful… Ahh… I want to flip it… Hmm… I should have used this from the start. I completely forgot about the spatula. The fish will be ready soon. Time to prepare the miso soup and rice. Wow, that looks delicious! I don’t know what kind of grain this is, but the color is nice. The car smells fishy. I knew this would happen. I wanted to serve the whole fish, not just a half-fillet. It was already cut in half, so there was nothing to be done about it. The tail is nice and crispy. It tastes great! Adding a large pickled plum that my mother gave me. Ohitashi(boiled seasoned vegetable) and Mozuku(vinegared seaweed), Grilled Pacific Saury Set Meal is ready. Let’s eat! Drinking warm miso soup soothes my heart. How’s the Pacific saury? It can’t compare to fish grilled over an open flame. But this is good. Ohitashi is also good. I’m glad I made it well. From now on, I can eat grilled fish easily in my car. Next, I’ll try other fish. …No, I’ll never grill fish again. The smell won’t leave the van. I remember my husband, who did the van’s interior, once said jokingly, “Maybe I should cut a hole in the ceiling and install a fan.” I wonder if I should actually ask him to do that. …Nah, that’s too much work just to grill fish. Lol I get out of my car to go to the restroom. I’ll take a little walk. I’ll buy my coffee here tomorrow morning. The sound of insects singing, a slightly strong breeze… it feels so pleasant. Outside the rest area grounds, it’s pitch black. I can’t take my eyes off the banner. “Hiyashi Taiyaki (Chilled fish-shaped cake with filling inside)” I’ve heard of “Hiyashi Taiyaki” for the first time. Ah, how wonderful it would be if I could sleep with the windows open. It’s time to go to bed. It’s humid and hot inside the car. Good night. Good morning. Did it rain last night? I didn’t even notice. The forecast was supposed to be cloudy… The chance of rain this morning is 80% to 90%… My destination should show me a lovely view even in the rain. But maybe I should wait for better weather. What should I do? Oh, it started raining again. The rain keeps starting and stopping. Mmm… It’s drizzling now. I’ll go buy some coffee. Sipping coffee, Listening to the small sound of the rain… It’s a moment of simple happiness. The rain has eased up a bit, so I think I’ll go for a walk. Oh, I want to eat “Hiyashi Taiyaki”… The rain is getting heavier. Ugh, it smells fishy… Oh, I brought aluminum foil for cooking fish. Should I have wrapped the fish in this and grilled it? Would the smell inside the car have been better if I’d done that? I’ve decided to change my destination. I gave up buying ”Hiyashi Taiyaki”. Let’s go! Oh my goodness… Before I knew it, I had stopped by the convenience store. I guess I hadn’t realized I was hungry. Lol After finishing the fried chicken, I resumed driving. This is my second visit to this shop. Even though I’ve only been here twice, I feel like a regular. My favorite Japanese sweets shop. The shop owner is so kind and friendly. These are souvenirs for my parents. I changed my destination, but… What kind of atmosphere did the place I originally planned to go to have? I kinda want to see it. I can see some ladies walking ahead. The road is narrow, making it difficult to pass by them. This must be a sign that I shouldn’t go any further. I’ll make a U-turn. I should follow these types of omens. I’ll visit another time. A 20-minute drive through the mountains. Beautiful stream. Clear air. A classic, throwback restaurant. It looks nice. Let’s go! I chose a window seat. It’s cute. Wind chimes hang from the eaves. I go outside after getting permission from the staff. I’ll have a breakfast combo. It’s simple, but so good. I put salad on the last bite of my bread. Awesome! Finally, I’ve arrived at today’s destination. “Aotamajinja Shrine” The grounds feature a cedar tree for marital harmony, and a ginkgo tree for women’s health. I’ll pray for a happy family and a long, healthy life. I think I can be kinder to my husband starting tomorrow… maybe… Lol I’m sure I can get through menopause. I bought this hair tie as a souvenir for myself. It’ll be a lucky charm to recall my wishes at the temple.
