ルールマラン、南フランスの人気の村でマルシェ、ランチ、村歩きを楽しむ暑い9月の日 / フランスの最も美しい村 / Lourmarin, South of France

This subtitle made with the help of YouTube’s automatic translation. Hello everyone! This is Sayaka from quatre saisons. This time, I visited the village of Lourmarin in southern France with my husband Matthieu in September 2025. Every Friday morning, the market is held., so we’ll start by checking that out! Look that ! There’s a Pinocchio. That’s lovely. It was a shop selling musical instruments. The cheeses looked delicious, but they were all hard cheeses (Matthieu prefers soft cheeses). This soap shop – I felt like I’d seen it somewhere before, but I couldn’t quite place it. There are so many shops at this street market that I’m not entirely sure if we’re still in Lourmarin. This is my first time visiting Lourmarin’s market in summer. The summer market definitely has a lot more clothing and sundries shops. This greengrocer always has a stall here, year-round. I fancied some pumpkin if they had it, but they didn’t. Watermelons are still being sold. I would have liked some persimmons if they had them, but they didn’t. Perhaps it was still a bit early. What I was pointing at was melon. It’s different from the ones sold in Japan! These are Spanish. The grapes look delicious. These are Italian. The meat smells good. I was a bit concerned the smell might cling to the clothes being sold. I still haven’t found the usual baker. The tapenade shop we sometimes buy. It’s delicious spread on bread. The pyjamas in that shop are adorable. A cheese shop we’ve bought from several times before. There was the bakery we sometimes buy from. With so many people coming, the bread was almost sold out. I feel that the flowers are gradually taking on more autumnal colours. There are lovely handmade animal dolls! There was the butcher’s we sometimes use. We decided to buy our dinner here. This shop’s potato galettes are delicious, so we decided to buy some of those too. We’ll buy the pork ribs and potato galettes for supper. It was lunchtime, so just looking at it made my mouth water. Ha ha. While Matthieu queued to buy, I went to look at the market further ahead. My favourite shop, which has a branch in l’isle-sur-La-Sorgue, had a stall here too (do take a look at the video). There was the honey shop I bought from at the Lourmarin market this past winter. I’ll buy some here later. This olive oil also caught my eye. The olives looked delicious too. The wine producer was here, offering tastings. It’s very popular! They were also selling typical Provençal souvenirs, such as lavender sachets and soap. This is a nougat shop. I’ve been hooked on nougat ever since I tried some in Sault, famous for its lavender, this summer. This is a shop selling kitchenware made from olive wood, which Matthieu loves. Recommended as a souvenir! This shirt shop is really lovely. I wish I’d had more time to browse! So many stylish basket bags! The way they’re displayed is so tasteful, it’s a lesson in itself. The market stalls ended around here. It’s quite a large-scale market in summer! In the distance you can see the Château de Lourmarin, which we didn’t visit this time. We’d just run out of the coffee we usually drink, so I decided to buy some here. (They used to have a shop in Aix-en-Provence, but it seems to have closed down now. He asked us how we make our coffee and what type of coffee we prefer. While explaining the coffee, he also let us check the aroma. This time we decided to buy the Colombian coffee that was recommended to me. €13. It’s nice that they grind the beans for you too! Next, we went to the honey shop. We couldn’t find the creamy lavender honey or the beer we’d bought before. Only non-lavender varieties of the creamy honey were available. The lavender honey available was only the clear variety. However, he said this clear honey gradually becomes creamy over time. This time, I bought the clear lavender honey. €6.50 The plates in typical southern French colours were absolutely lovely. The illustrations depicting the south of France were rather nice too! Matthieu was debating whether to buy some cheese. We’re heading to the market now, taking the stairs up to Place Henri-Bartherie. It was mid-September, yet they were already selling such splendid porcini mushrooms. They were €29.95 per kilo. The green-skinned pumpkin I’d been looking for wasn’t sold here either. The broccoli looked delicious, so I decided to buy some. I also bought a small amount of green beans. I think it was less than €8 in total. I don’t think the shops selling here are much different from usual. When I see the usual truck owner, I somehow feel relieved. They were selling tea towels, tote bags, posters and other items with lovely Provençal illustrations. There was another delicatessen here too. I’d like to try it next time. The Lourmarin market attracts many visitors, so there are lots of stalls and it’s fun just to look around. Many of the people who come to the Lourmarin market are very stylish, so it’s also fun to see everyone’s fashions. I haven’t bought honey from this stall yet, so I’d like to try it next time. After putting the things we bought at the market in the car, we look for a place to have lunch. I said Tiger, but this animal is actually a Panther. It was a very cute bag. Further down the street where the market was being held, it was also very crowded with people having lunch. Every restaurant was full, and I saw people waiting. Everywhere was packed, and we couldn’t find a place to eat, so we decided to take a little stroll around the village first. The bakery I’d been using since my first visit to Lourmarin closed down a few years ago. Lourmarin is a popular village, so shops change quite frequently. I thought it depicted someone lifting their leg, but it turned out to be a work representing someone swimming! There was a cute little dog in front of the shop. It’s not in the shade, so I wonder if it’s not too hot? They’re selling honey at the hairdresser’s. How interesting! I wonder if a family member makes the honey? The building on the right here is the church building. We arrived at the church. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open. Last time I came, I entered from here, but it was closed. I’ll come back after lunch. There are always goldfish here. What kind of fish is the white and black one? A house with some very lovely paintings on display. It seems to be a guesthouse. Oh, hello there, lovely cat. I think I’ve met you before, haven’t I?
(Please also watch the video published on 15th November 2024.) The little cat seemed rather pleased to be stroked by Matthieu. You’re very cute. By around 13:00, most of the market stalls had already packed up. This time, we went to a restaurant called Bacheto. It’s attached to the Moulin hotel. It was a very hot day even for September, so first we quenched our thirst with sparkling water. Cheers with water! Everything we ordered arrived at once! First, we ate this focaccia. That red stuff is probably tomato sauce. I was surprised how delicious this sauce was! This is probably aubergine sauce. It had coriander on top and was also very tasty! This yellow thing was a soup. It was a cold yellow pepper soup. It felt like summer and was absolutely delicious! Next up, we’ll have the arancini. It’s Italian cuisine, but I could detect a hint of Chinese flavour too. Arancini are rice croquettes. They were slightly spicy and absolutely delicious. I detected a hint of vinegar, which reminded me of Chinese food. This was also very tasty! This meat is apparently grilled in a barbecue-style manner. The green sauce on top is called chimichurri. This sauce apparently originates from Argentina and had quite a strong tangy flavour. The meat was delicious, and this sauce complemented it perfectly – absolutely lovely! This is the lamb chop. I’m not very good at cutting meat, so Matthieu cut it for me. I gratefully ate the portion Matthieu cut. The meat was simply grilled with herbs, but the cooking and the meat itself were absolutely delicious and superb. Dessert arrived. We shared a brioche pain perdu. And coffee! It was topped with caramel sauce and pistachio powder. It was delicious! I was surprised the cream on top wasn’t sweet at all. This brioche was also quite delicious! The biscuit that came with the coffee was also very tasty! The interior was also very lovely. Actually, we went to this restaurant five years ago, but I was surprised to see the atmosphere had completely changed. I rather liked this restaurant, so I’d like to come again. The scent of the leaves here is lovely. You can’t reach the village of Bonnieux without crossing this mountain. Now we’re going to stroll around the village of Lourmarin again! I hope to see a cat. After the market, the crowds thin out considerably, don’t they? The view from here is also absolutely lovely. On the left is the café of the restaurant where we had lunch; you can also get light snacks there. The dolls and baby clothes in this shop are utterly adorable. This street has such lovely little shops selling sundries and clothes; you just can’t help stopping in. There was also a kitchenware shop. I’d like to pop in properly next time. Matthieu decided to buy some bread for breakfast at the new bakery that opened in Lourmarin this spring. Mathieu asked what I wanted, but as there was other bread left, I didn’t buy any. The lemon and poppy seed cake and pain au chocolat came to €5.30 (about ¥922). We went right earlier, so let’s go left this time. There used to be cats around here quite often, didn’t there? Even in September, we could still enjoy a few flowers here and there. There were cars parked ahead, blocking the way, so we turned back. It was still hot for early September, but here and there, we could sense autumn – leaves turning red and such. Cats are often found in this spot, but unfortunately, there weren’t any today. This time, the church door was open! This Church of Saint-André-et-Saint-Trophime was built in the 11th century, blending Romanesque and Gothic styles. This church was constructed to guard the entrance to the Lourmarin Valley. We visited in September, but we were lucky enough to also see Santons figurines, which are traditionally displayed at Christmas in the South of France! It had deep connections with the Abbey of Saint-André in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, a neighbouring town of Avignon. We head back towards the centre. We try a street we don’t usually go down into. Further along lies a place once used as a wash house. This area was formerly used as a wash house. There is a small river. Plenty of plants here. It’s nice that there aren’t many people here. The sound of the water also feels refreshing. This street is quiet and pleasant to walk along. It was around 15:45, but the main street was bustling with people. We’ve walked down this street many times, yet we’ve never once used any of the restaurants or bistros here. Actually, we’d never been to this street before, so we decided to give it a go. This is actually a real estate agency! What a splendid building. This shop was also very lovely! (As photography inside the shop is prohibited, this is as far as I could photograph.) As it was a dead end from here, we turned back towards the previous street. Once the market finished and the stalls and cars were gone, it felt like the wind picked up. This time we went to Lourmarin. The market was in September but it was still quite crowded. Still, I was delighted to see so many lovely stalls. Once the market closes, certain parts of Lourmarin become very quiet. Lourmarin has quite a few places to see and visit, so it doesn’t really feel crowded. Lunch was absolutely delicious. We are heading home. Thank you for watching the video all the way through. See you in the next video!
