日本の直島を歩く

Welcome back everybody to the perfect walk. It’s Clint and I am I mean come on. Look how pretty this place is. We’re starting our walk. This is walk number three from Nashima Island and I am excited to be here with all of you. Most folks come for the art. We’re here for the island. I mean, that is the best kind of art. [Applause] That was so pretty I had to stop and FaceTime my [Applause] family. Good lord. Did you know Japan was like this? I guess if so, bonus points to you. That’d be a nice hotel to stay at. That must be the Beness house. Baness. I hope I’m saying that right. Vanessa. I think it’s bananess. Correct me in the comments. YouTube and the internet in general are excellent at that. We’re going for a walk. And I’ve got to say, you must be able to get through because I keep seeing people coming from the other side, which is just an excellent sign. They might be going down to the beach. Good for them. The beach actually might be private property of the hotel. So, I think I’m good to film on the road as we walk through. But tempting fate to go down to what might be the hotel beach. You can chill. I was hoping this way would be pretty free of hills, but no such luck. you are here. So, we want to go right along the seaside over here to the town. Sujiso is the name of the town. Oh, wow. [Applause] So pretty. Another cool beach down here. Let’s rock and roll. Let’s keep going until we get to Sujiso. This looks relatively flat. I’ll take it. That’s a win. Look at that peekaboo view. pretty pretty pretty good. On we roll. On we roll. I don’t know. Oh, more art. Oh, look. You can move them. Interesting. I thought they Oh, I think I see the pumpkin down here. I knew we would find it. I knew we would find the pumpkin eventually. It’s down in the bay down here. [Applause] Yeah. Once again, probably when you come get a bike like those nice folks, unless you truly have a passion for exploring the world by foot, which is the best way to do it. Hidden path. Well marked hidden path. I needed a day of relaxation. This is incredible. No hustle and bustle. I left the hustle and bustle behind. This might be one of the prettiest islands I’ve been on. I know it’s just kind of a rocky, non-escript island, but kind of underdeveloped. The flowers are pretty and only 30 minutes from less if you’re coming from the other side. I guess from Okyama from Takamatsu it was only 30 minutes by highspeed ferry. Very easy. Look, there’s a pumpkin over there. Now, I don’t know if the pumpkin is for public consumption or if it is some kind of public or some kind of private art installation of the hotel. So, we’re about to find out. But there have been no gates. There have been no checks. There have been no signs that I’ve seen that say keep out, private property only, hotel guests only. Haven’t seen any of that. So, until I do, we will. Now, we’re not going to go down this little path. This is clearly part of the property of this hotel. So, we’ll go to the left and follow the road. I will check out what the sign says cuz the sign may say that sign says falling rocks. Oh, this sign just says no picles. Town bus stop. Two minutes on foot. Shop. Bathroom. Okay. No, it’s uh all clear. Green light. Nice. Now, Shima, way to prioritize access. How cool would it be to stay here? I’m more of a $30 per night kind of guy in Japan. So, I’m betting this is more along the lines of $350 to $400 a night. But it is very nice. Very nice. Very nice. Yeah. Super luxe. If you look, Japan has some of the most beautiful modernist hotels around. Iceland was kind of like that, too. Some really brutalist modern concrete hotels. I very much enjoy that sort of thing. H looks like a cafe. We will not show their cafe and we will not show the hotel guests. offer some degree of [Applause] privacy. That’s pretty nice. Can’t beat that. There’s the restrooms and shopping right here. And we will walk through this little park to go check out the pumpkin. And there’s some other art here too, obviously. Little sculpture park. And this dude has become art. because he’s chilling having a vape in paradise. I call that sculpture decisions. [Applause] [Applause] is the name of that [Applause] sculpture. This one up here is called hump day. Oh, tap water. Handy dandy. Oh, look at that one. Once again, I will say the sculptures are cool. The island is cooler, but you get to have both. So, what a treat. Well, it’s gourd time. [Applause] Never let it be said that I don’t show you a gourd time. Eh, we’re going to have to wait in line for gourd shots. Hope you don’t mind. Dude brought his roller bag out here. That’s a dedication. That is uh how you take a gourd picture. No. Yes. The two girls in front of me must have taken Oh, it must have been 15 minutes. Everybody was laughing. They did slow walk towards pumpkin, slow walk away from pumpkin. Koi koi. seated position near pumpkin. I mean, it was freaking absurd. Now, all that’s left to do is find the town, which has got to be this way, cuz I keep seeing buses that say town bus, which is very cool. Nice soundtrack. [Music] Wow. Is this the best place? [Music] [Music] She [Music] I’m sure this is copyrighted, but what a memory. What a moment. [Music] Sutujo is a seaside park where you can stay overnight. How about that? That’s awesome. [Music] [Music] [Music] Well, there won’t be a better place for us to stopped this walk. Let me walk down to the end here. It’s time for me to have a drink. And I think I will do so under these pine trees with this nice music. You know what? Grab a crappy chair. Yeah. So, this is where I’m going to be if you need me. [Music] Well, everybody, thanks as always for the love and support. And you know the drill. See you next time. I’ll let you watch the waves for a minute if you’d like. Bye for now.

  1. Absolutely stunning scenery. A magnificent walk for sure and a perspective on Japan that expands my understanding of the country. I guess I just never envisioned Japan as having that much rural area. Thanks for another great walk.
