【世界遺産🇻🇳ホイアン】ご当地グルメ&絶叫ココナッツボート
Hello! It’s Ito, traveling around. This time, we’re diving into Hoi An’s local food. Screaming fun with basket boats and more! We’ll show you how to enjoy Hoi An even in just half a day. On this channel, the Ito family living in Bangkok share delicious food from around the world, especially Southeast Asia, and also introduce beautiful places. If you enjoy the video, please leave a comment and subscribe! It’s less than an hour’s drive from Da Nang. To Hoi An, the UNESCO heritage town famous for its yellow walls and lanterns. Even if you head out in the afternoon, you’ll still make it for lunch. Alright, let’s go find some lunch! Here we are in Hoi An! It’s pretty lively, isn’t it? Super photogenic! Not sure what’s ahead though. Oh, but I see some Com Ga (chicken rice). There are a lot of Com Ga shops around here. You don’t see that many in Da Nang. It’s pretty cool in the shade. Isn’t this alley insanely cute? So cute, and really quiet too. Just by turning into one small street, famous chef once called this one of the best banh mi in the world. Banh Mi Phuong. At lunchtime, the line gets super long. Grabbing one to-go and enjoying it while strolling the town is so Hoi An. I’ll give the number one to you. So this is the “world’s best banh mi,” huh? Delicious! It’s got quite a spicy kick—lots of mint in there. Very minty. I went with the pork shank. Looks like this. It’s packed with ham and stuff. This one seems a little less minty though. With tomato and onion inside, it feels kind of like a salad. The fillings are actually pretty different. Totally different. This is really good! Of course it’s good! Mysterious sauce. Maybe some kind of chili sauce? Yeah. Can you open it for me? You really didn’t plan this out, huh? Like this? It’d taste even better with chili oil. So many people! It’s tasty. But calling it the world’s best? I’m not so sure. Well, Vietnam’s sandwiches are all on such a high level. Depends on your taste, I guess. Ah, I think I get it. Maybe it’s got less pickled veggies. I actually love pickled veggies and that pâté vibe. So if you like that pickled veggie + pâté combo, this might feel a bit off. Yeah, there’s definitely no pickled veggies in here. Got it, I see the pattern. Yeah, that’s pretty much how it was. The taste of one of Vietnam’s most iconic banh mi spots. You should give it a try at least once. Oh, looks like we just ended up on a souvenir street. We came out somewhere really nice. Feels very Hoi An. Yeah, totally. Don’t you think we popped out at a good spot? I wonder if there’s a café with AC around here. Huh? A café that looks like it might have AC. Hoi An in the dry season—watch out, it’s scorching hot. Finding places with air-con is key when exploring the city. Made with natural materials like recycled wood. COCOBOX, a café with a natural and relaxing vibe. They focus on local, organic ingredients from Vietnam. Perfect for when you want a healthy little break. The first floor is open-air, but the second floor has AC. So you can enjoy cold-pressed juice or a good coffee while cooling down. The condensed milk’s all sunk to the bottom. Can I just leave it like this? Yeah, should be fine. But it’s hot! Looks like they’ll do it for us. Oh, so that’s how you do it. Mix together Apparently you just mix it all together. They couldn’t stand watching and did it for us. But whatever, I’m just gonna pour it in here. Here we go! The staff are watching me like they’re worried, haha. Done! When I had this at Highlands Coffee ages ago, it was crazy sweet. Yeah, way sweeter. But since I came here, the ones I’ve had are all pretty well balanced. The sweetness is just right. It’s really good. Alright, now that we’ve had a good rest, let’s hit the streets again. Haha, they’re selling “PHO KING” here. What’s this? Looks like a temple, right? Oh, there’s a dragon! We found a popular herbal drink shop in Hoi An. Wow, it’s not crowded at all. Guess the hype’s over? How many? Is one okay? 18,000 vnd That was quick, haha. As for the taste… How should I put it? Doesn’t it taste kinda like honey lemon? Yeah, it’s like honey lemon. …with just a hint of herbs. But this is really good for heatstroke. Yeah, feels like it’ll work. It wasn’t crowded at all. It’s so good I could easily get another one. It’s perfect for this crazy hot weather. And the Japanese Covered Bridge isn’t that crowded either. Do you need a ticket for the Japanese Covered Bridge? I guess so. Is this it? The ticket counter—yep, this one. Oh wow, so you have to pay just to cross. Over there you don’t need a fee, though. And this is the river. And here it is—the Japanese Covered Bridge. The Japanese Covered Bridge—one of the most iconic photo spots in the old town. And from here, you can see— —the Thu Bon River, pretty much the heart of Hoi An sightseeing. It says “Money Exchange” here too. Oh, maybe we should ask. So just now— —we went and exchanged money. Looks like they take Japanese yen here too. But we only had Thai baht with us. So we exchanged baht. And actually, the rate was— They said, “I’ll make it a little better for you.” That was nice of them. Well, can’t say no to that. Around here, a lot of shops—like out front or inside— —suddenly double as money exchange places. This spot kinda feels like Rambuttri Street. Yeah, really gives that Rambuttri vibe. Oh— That looks nice! It’s twin dragons. Twin dragons, carved from wood. You can even smell the wood. Yeah. Not exactly a pleasant smell, though. Still, not bad, right? Pretty cool. Ahh, it’s hot. Yeah, really hot. Hey, looks like we could call a Grab from here. Hoi An in the dry season is dangerous, honestly. It’s so hot you can’t even enjoy sightseeing. I’d recommend coming after sunset. We called a Grab and the driver showed up literally in a second. And he told us, “You can crank up the AC if you want.” That’s awesome, super nice of him. In this heat, it could be deadly otherwise… If you end up in a car with weak AC… haha. That’d be hell. Is he the boatman? Or is it someone else? Getting this boat ride for like 1500 yen— —that’s Vietnam pricing for you. Yeah, true, that’s a good point. And we’re off! It’s actually pretty breezy. But once we’re under the sun, it gets hot again. Good thing they lent us these hats. Isn’t this your first time wearing one of these hats? Yeah, first time. How is it? That hat looks kinda feminine… Just a little more. This strap’s a bit tight. Yeah, it’s really snug. Oh, are there two of them? I had them layered on top of each other. I was wearing two of them. Yeah, I doubled up. Looks like you doubled up. Finally, we got on. It’s nice and cool. So cool. Oh wow, kinda… We just got bumped out of nowhere. Doesn’t this kinda feel like…? Like “It’s a Small World.” It’s pretty cute. They just keep coming. Feels like a theme park ride—well, I guess it is one. Look, that’s really nice. Yeah, that’s cool. Feels like a jungle. This is actually kinda fun. And it’s cool, too. Yeah, more than I expected. I like that it feels relaxing, too. LOL Oh man, that guy’s wild. Yeah, he’s crazy. He’s spinning around. They look like dancers. Oh, they really are dancers!? He’s cutting right in, lol. That’s insane… Man, that’s amazing. He’s going all out. This thrilling spin option costs extra. If you’re brave enough and can handle the spinning… …you should totally give it a try. The basket boat ride here in the Coconut Forest— —it’s usually calm and something anyone can enjoy. That was a good tour. Yeah, that was fun. There was so much to see, never felt boring. And also— The boatmen are fun too, all of them. Wait, wait, wait, wait! That was sudden! Nobody told me that! All of a sudden, Mr. Nhan just went wild… And yeah, we ended up getting spun around. We had no warning, so it really caught us off guard. Yeah, came out of nowhere. He suddenly bared his fangs, so to speak. I thought he just suddenly stood up, and then— It scared me. We’re back, we’ve arrived. Not every boat was doing that, though. Yeah, that was just a special service. Did you give him a tip? Yeah, yeah. Thanks. Thank you. When we got back to Hoi An’s old town, the evening light was just beautiful— the yellow walls were glowing so vividly, and the streets were getting even livelier. Oh, what’s that? Ah, that’s the one we saw earlier. Isn’t that MOT? It’s super crowded. So it really packs up in the evening. Glad we came earlier. Across from MOT, there’s the Reaching Out Tea House. It’s not just a stylish café, it’s a place where you experience the beauty of silence. Most of the staff here are hearing impaired. So instead of spoken words, they use other ways to communicate. Oh, it’s an order sheet. Ah, but from the smell, I get passion fruit. The oolong tea… you don’t really taste the tea much, right? The passion fruit stands out, but it’s not sweet at all. It’s really good. And they even served some tea snacks. These cookies are good. Wow, the crowd’s gotten huge. Yeah, more people now. Guess everyone comes here around sunset into the night. Are they all taking sunset photos, maybe? Yeah, probably. Yeah, right now— It’s drizzling quite a bit. Like grandma’s homemade cooking, with a warm, homey vibe, that’s Grandma Kitchen—serving local comfort food. The terrace by the river is the best seat in the house. We got lucky it was open. So, with the chicken rice— you’re supposed to mix these two sauces together. And this is chicken broth, apparently. And this here is— White Rose dumplings. And this stir-fried pumpkin flower I was curious about. And the view’s amazing too. What do you think of this view? It’s perfect. Alright, let’s dig in. Go for it. So good. Dim sum. It’s not really chewy, more like bouncy and springy—easy to eat. It’s tasty—I think Japanese people would love this. It’s kinda like that… Like Hong Kong dim sum rice rolls. It’s less like a flower, more like a pumpkin bud, right? A bud? Looks kinda like asparagus too. Alright, let me try some. This is good. It’s kinda like zucchini. Maybe zucchini is like… …a kind of pumpkin? Let me check that too. Okay, I looked it up. Turns out, pumpkin and zucchini are from the same squash family. That’s why their flowers and young parts taste and feel pretty similar. What’s going on? What happened? Was I wrong? Did I mess it up? Okay? I can pour it, right? Chicken broth. Oh, we add it? So we pour in the chicken broth. All of it? Seriously? Looks like it. Alright, here goes! That’s how you eat it? Let’s dig in. Yeah. This is good. Lighter than I expected. Yeah, pretty light actually. Maybe we could add more boldly—like soy sauce. Delicious. Let’s properly wish for hitting 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. Yes, please. We’re counting on it! Hoi An at night feels totally different from the daytime. The lively lantern-lit vibe, too, becomes another special memory. If you’re visiting Hoi An just for the day, I recommend staying from afternoon till night so you get the best of both. And as a bonus stop, we swung by that place everyone loves. Gelato! So good. Anyway, that was a fun Hoi An trip. Yeah, it was great. Now we’re heading back to Da Nang. Next time, we’ll dive into history in Hue—the last dynasty of Vietnam! We’ll explore the photogenic imperial sites and feast on Hue’s specialties. Plus, check out some insanely stylish hotels, and more! We’ll show you all the charm of Hue with that authentic local vibe. Don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss it! That’s it from TRAVITO!
