Hi, it’s Yuuka here! Right now I’m at Tokyo Station. Today I’m hopping on the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kagayaki and heading all the way to Kanazawa. I’ll be riding Kagayaki No. 523 in Gran Class today. This is actually my third time in Gran Class, so my eyes are literally sparkling right now. The first time was to Sendai, the second time was to Hokkaido, and this time it’s Kanazawa. It’s actually my very first trip to Hokuriku. So I’m super excited to see what this adventure brings. And as always—this has kinda become tradition— I’m gonna check out one of the Gran Class perks: the View Gold Lounge at Tokyo Station. People sometimes ask me where the lounge is, but honestly, it’s super close. I’m at Yaesu Central Exit right now, and it’s less than a minute’s walk— like, literally 30 seconds. Love how convenient that is. Here we are! This is the View Gold Lounge. It’s 9:20 right now, and my train leaves at 9:56. So I’ve got about 30 minutes to kill. Perfect time to just chill in the lounge. But filming videos in here is a no-go, though photos are okay—so as usual, *Introducing it with a cheesy commercial vibe* I’d really rather not get banned, so I’ll quietly enjoy my time here. Here’s the drink menu— I’m on a no-alcohol streak, so thank goodness no booze. *Even the bottled water names sound too fancy, lol* But Gran Class tickets aren’t exactly cheap, so I’m seriously debating how to “get my money’s worth.” I went with apple juice this time. Now, let’s see how it tastes… The sweet and sour balance is spot-on— like, it’s screaming “I’m an apple!” (?) Snacks were free too, so of course I didn’t hesitate to grab some. Now, let’s taste-test the snack… Yup, that’s delicious. Honestly, I could crush like 300 of these. (No joke.) The lounge is still super chic and classy as always, with travel magazines and newspapers lying around, seats with outlets for charging, and even its own private restroom— so it’s perfect for relaxing until departure. Even the plants here give off nice vibes. Oh no, this is bad… I just realized it’s only 10 minutes before departure and I’m panicking! Time to make a run for it. Crap, it’s my first time on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, so I don’t even know where to go… Oh no, oh no, oh no… *Problem: I chilled way too long in the lounge even though I’m hopeless with directions* Found it—Kagayaki 523, departing at 9:56. Phew, thank goodness. Alright, here we go! Oh no, oh no… Gran Class is all the way at the very end, so it’s always such a hike to get there. That’s the one downside, honestly… But once you’re on board, it’s pure comfort—so just a little more hustle! Made it to the very front. This is Kagayaki’s face. I usually ride the Hayabusa, so the totally different colors feel super fresh and fun. Alright, time for my very first ride on the Hokuriku Shinkansen! Look, look—there’s nobody here again today. It’s so empty, yay! I’m in seat 5A, second row from the front, right here. Let me give you a quick little seat tour. There are these solo seats like mine, and also rows of two-person seats over here. But since I’m solo, of course, I went with a single seat. The seat is super spacious, *Honestly feels way too fluffy to be a Shinkansen seat* And above, there’s this really roomy luggage rack. I just brought a backpack this time, so I’ll stash it up here like this. Gotta make sure I don’t forget it later. Attention please— This train departs at 9:56, Hokuriku Shinkansen Kagayaki No. 523 bound for Kanazawa. We will stop at Ueno, Omiya, Nagano, and Toyama, with the final stop at Kanazawa. Departure is at 9:56. Please wait about 5 more minutes until departure. We’re moving! Right on the dot at 9:56. Now it’s two and a half hours of Gran Class bliss. I’m planning to just relax and soak it all in. It’s my very first ride on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, and my eyes are literally sparkling. I’ll ditch the greedy thought of “getting my money’s worth” and even kick off these high heels to really relax. (kinda forcing it, lol) ♪ Onboard Chime BGM / Hokuriku Romance Thank you for riding the Hokuriku Shinkansen today. We really appreciate it. This train is the Kagayaki, bound for Kanazawa via Nagano. The attendant handed me this little bag. It’s got all sorts of goodies inside, so let’s check it out. First up, the menu! Honestly, this part always gets me excited. It shows both Japanese and Western meals you can choose from, and yep—I went with Japanese again. Just look at the picture—doesn’t the Japanese meal look way tastier? I swear I pick Japanese every single time. The Western one looks good too, but— the Japanese meal always looks more filling and worth it. So yeah, I went with that again. Next time, I’ll try the Western one— if I ever get the chance again. (Important!) *Drinks are unlimited refills, by the way* And yes, that includes alcohol. They also have tons of soft drinks available. I’m usually a milk-in-the-morning kind of girl, but looks like there’s no milk… Guess I’ll pick something else this time. There’s also a Gran Class exclusive hand towel, and Gran Class exclusive bottled water. Lastly, there’s a little snack pack. Looks like it’d pair perfectly with alcohol. But hey, it’s still morning, so I’ll pass on the booze. I’ll just enjoy it with some water instead. Gran Class is usually pretty empty, but today there are about five of us. And they’re all international travelers, so it’s actually lively! Makes chatting feel more natural—kind of nice, honestly. Here’s what the space in front of the seat looks like— the seat pitch is crazy wide (about 130cm). I can almost fully stretch my legs! There’s also a hook tucked in for hanging bags, and some other stuff hidden in here too. Oh—slippers! Alright, let’s work some magic. 3…2…1… Ta-da! Now I’m in slippers. These are way comfier to walk in. And then, there’s also this brochure with recommendations for Hokuriku sightseeing spots. I’ll go through that later at a slower pace. There’s also the “Train Vert” magazine, and a guide to the seat features. But hey, this is my third time here, so I should know it all already… Wait—hang on, this is actually kinda tricky. Guess I’ll need to check properly later. *Me struggling to figure out how to pull out the table (so embarrassing)* Here comes the food! Well, technically it’s called a light meal, but honestly, it’s pretty substantial for a “snack.” I went with the Japanese meal, like this. It looks way too good. This is my breakfast! Alright, let’s dig in. Oh no… total fail… It’s all foam. Gotta wait a bit. *Might actually reach Kanazawa before this settles, lol* Anyway, cheers to my third Gran Class trip! *Refueling in progress* Wait, no, this isn’t what it looks like… I was gonna order milk since it’s morning, but they didn’t have any… Then the attendant came over, and I panicked and ordered fast. I just picked the top-left option on the menu, and turns out it was beer. (oops) Yeah… I messed up. But oh well. Since I ordered it, I’ll drink it. Cheers! Feels like there’s more meat than usual today. Lucky me. This Japanese meal theme is called “Summer Coolness & Fermentation,” and it’s served until around September. The menu changes each season, so no matter how many times you ride, you always get fresh meals—it’s awesome. Earlier I was struggling, but the Hokuriku Shinkansen’s Gran Class is a little different in design from the Tohoku and Hokkaido ones. Even the table mechanism works slightly differently. So definitely check out my past videos if you want to spot the differences. Though, just like before, I’ve been drinking too much alcohol again. Some things never change, haha. But this time, I think I’ll stop at just this one drink. By the way, the Gran Class fare from Tokyo to Kanazawa— the base ticket was about $50, and the express and Green Car surcharge was around $160, so in total it came to about $210. Yeah… that’s pretty steep. (RIP wallet) I also checked the reserved seat price— and that’s about $95 or so. Since Kagayaki doesn’t have unreserved seats, reserved is the cheapest option. So yeah, Gran Class is literally over double the price… total luxury. But hey, since I’m here— I might as well go a little wild today. *If I don’t take advantage of the all-you-can-drink, people might judge me, lol* And the beer is premium ale, which is like, the fancy stuff! Gran Class really delivers. *If I drink 126 of these, I’ll break even—challenge accepted* We’ll soon be arriving at Omiya. After Omiya, our next stop will be Nagano. It really speeds through from Omiya to Nagano! That was delicious. All finished. It was seriously so good. I’m stuffed now, so time for a little break. At 10:21, the Shinkansen pulled out of Omiya Station. From here, we’ll pass through Takasaki in Gunma Prefecture, then it’s Nagano → Toyama → Kanazawa. The weather’s on my side too— it’s seriously the perfect day for traveling. Now it’s finally recline time! You can adjust the seat angle pretty precisely like this, but I always go full GORON mode— so I just hold down the “recline” button. There’s also a call button, so you can summon an attendant if needed. Plus, a reading light—you press this and the light behind your seat turns on. Nice for nighttime rides. It’s a little hard to see, but— there’s also an outlet here, so you can charge your phone and stuff. Alright, time to recline… Whoa, it goes back so far! Oh wow, the leg rest comes up too. It’s been a while since I last rode, so this is exciting. I think this is the max recline. But with the footrest up like this, it’s super comfy. From the side, it looks really reclined too— so yeah, it’s insanely comfortable. Guess I’ll take a quick 30-minute nap now. Good night. I feel refreshed after my nap, so let’s go explore the train a bit. This Gran Class feels a little different from the last one— the overall vibe is way cooler with the colors. Let’s check out the back of the car too. It’s got this chic, Japanese-style design. Here’s the exclusive powder room just for Gran Class passengers. It’s got big lights and feels super fancy. And here’s what the restroom looks like. Honestly, in Tokyo this would be like a $200-a-month apartment size. Not a 1K… more like a 1T. (T for toilet, lol) Across from that, there’s a sink area with outlets and a hand dryer. If you pull this curtain shut, it turns into a semi-private booth— perfect if you wanna do a silly dance or something. For my second drink, I went with white wine. Wait—seriously, this isn’t what it looks like… I wasn’t planning on ordering more at all. But the attendant came over, unprompted, and asked, “What would you like for your next drink?” *And you can’t waste kindness like that, right?* So I just picked the second item listed—white wine. It’s crisp and super easy to drink. I just realized I actually prefer white wine over red. So good. Oh, wait— I should have it with the snack I got earlier. Pretty sure I ate this last time too. That trip was to Hokkaido, so I figured it was included because we passed through Aomori—but nope. Since it’s also here on the Kanazawa route, I guess it’s standard— Gran Class always gives you Aomori apples and nuts. *These are so good they should totally sell them onboard.* Uh-oh… this is definitely gonna get me tipsy. But I have plans after this trip, so I’d better not overdo it. I’ll stop at two drinks today. *The international passenger in front of me started talking to me* “Subscribe.” Like, literally saying it in Japanese—“touroku shite.” *When I showed them my channel, they actually subscribed!* *Praying they don’t unsubscribe once they sober up (fast prayer)* “What’s your name?” “Yuka Suzuki.” *Are they just throwing out every English word they know?* The American guy sitting in front started chatting with me, and he’s already had like four drinks. I’m… seriously falling behind here. Time to step up my game! *My weirdly competitive side kicking in hard* *There’s no way I can lose at this point* I drank it. Excuse me… could I get a cognac, please? *The legendary “cognac blackout” returns* With soda, please. So yeah, I ordered cognac. This is… dangerous. It’s 40% alcohol—super strong. About this much? Yeah, that’s a lot… Oh no, this is really hitting me… But if you ride Gran Class, you gotta try it at least once. “Cognac” sounds like such a cute name, but it’s anything but cute. The word kinda sounds like “Kodak,” right? But no, it’s… totally… W-wait, I’m drunk, I don’t even know what I’m saying… Yeah, I’m done for. Oh, right—if you want, you can order a pound cake made with Tochigi-grown Tochiaika strawberries. So of course, I had to try it. One Tochiaika pound cake, please! And if you’re feeling chilly onboard, you can also request a blanket. Thank you! It’s a little cold in here, so I got a blanket. That’s another one of those awesome Gran Class perks. It’s been less than two hours since we left Tokyo, and we’re already almost in Toyama. The Shinkansen really is crazy fast. Here’s the Tochiaika pound cake. This one’s so good. I had it last time too, and it was amazing. It’s a strawberry-flavored cake. Delicious! We’ll soon be arriving in Toyama. Please transfer here for the Takayama Line, Ainokaze Toyama Railway, and Toyama Chiho Railway. Once we leave Toyama, it’s only about 20 minutes to Kanazawa. Sure, the ticket price is high, but it’s worth it for the memories. Gran Class makes you want to ride again someday. We’ll soon reach our final stop, Kanazawa. This was actually my third time riding Gran Class, and honestly, it never gets old. The seats are super spacious, you can recline freely, and even adjust the footrest— so it was such a comfy ride. The attendants were also super attentive, which made it feel really cozy. Though honestly, every time I ride, I end up drinking too much. And yep, this time was no exception. Gran Class is… dangerous like that. But looking around, pretty much everyone else was tipsy too, so at least it wasn’t just me! This is actually only my second time in Ishikawa Prefecture. It’s my first time here for YouTube though. I did come once before, but I didn’t really sightsee— just stayed for like 3–4 hours. So yeah, it’s been a while. That’s why I’m super excited to explore this time. There’s a spot I’ve been dying to visit, so I’m heading there next. Stay tuned for the next video!
