Corso Group: “Van Reedestraat”. With their float: CROWDCONTROL. Designed by: “Eva Jansen”. These days, it’s almost impossible to remain anonymous. Cameras have become almost as commonplace on the streets as pigeons. The pigeon perched high above us on the ledges of our houses is watching us. But is the pigeon really what it seems, or are we being watched? Corso Group: “Kwintet” . With their float: HORRIFIC / “GRUWELIJK”. Designed by: “Suze van Lochem”. Corso Group: “Groep Rensing”. With their float: Cohesion / “Cohesie”. Designed by: “Lars Ikink”. Do you see the little bird? #3 Theatre Award Corso Group: “Geschud(t)” . With their float: Anteater / “Miereneter”. Corso Group: “Corsogroep Teeuws”. With their float: Treasurer / “Schatbewaarder”. Designed by: Paul Wieggers. #1 place Winner Corso Group: “Veur Mekare?!” . With their float: Eye contact / “Oogcontact”. Designed by: “Luuk Smees”. Corso Group: “6Kamp” . With their float: Hermit / “Heremiet”. Designed by: “Jord van den Berg”. Corso Group: “Groep van Ons” . With their float: Spider monkeys / “Slingerapen”. Designed by: “Onze ontwerpersgroep”. They swing from vine to vine, from beam to beam, among the toys. With cheerful faces and swinging movements, these acrobats liven things up. Monkeys full of mischief and energy! Corso Group: “Corsogroep Zieuwentseweg” . With their float: Shrouded in ice cold / “Verhuld in ijskou”. Designed by: “Bart Klein Gunnewiek”. The road to the top is never without danger… #2 place Winner, #1 Audience Award. #1 Theatre Award Corso Group: “Vedut Nogal”. With their float: Schadenfreude / “Leedvermaak”. Designed by: “Wessel Beerten en Brett Seesing”. After forty years of loyal service, Circus VENO is coming to an end. On its way to its final show, because what prevails in the circus? Sorrow or amusement? Exactly, Schadenfreude! Corso Group: “Harbers Paul” . With their float: Cityscapes / “Stadsgezichten”. Designed by: “Hans Mensink, Julia IJzereef en Laurens Stortelder”. Striking silhouettes, towers, and bridges combine to create a journey through iconic cityscapes. Colorful flowers and surprising materials create a vibrant tribute to centuries-old architecture and urban splendor. It’s like strolling through Europe’s most beautiful cities, all at a glance. Corso Group: “Groep Marneth” . With their float: Herons / “Rijgers” . Designed by: “Thijmen Oonk en Mart Muller”. The Heron (Rijgardea) is a bird in the heron family (Ardeidae). The Rijger is an endangered species that can only be spotted in and around the Achterhoek village of Lichtenvoorde, particularly around the second Sunday in September. #3 place Winner Corso Group: “Corsogroep Hooiland”. With their float: “Bolster”. Designed by: “Rogier Olijslager”. This friendly chestnut creature is gentle by nature. Its hard shell protects it from danger. Rough shell, soft kernel. Kinder corso / Kids Flower Parade In the Netherlands, a unique and vibrant tradition comes to life every year: the bloemencorso, or flower parade. These parades are more than just a procession of floats; they are a true celebration of community and artistry. Towns and villages across the country, big and small, come together to build incredible sculptures entirely from flowers. The floats, often massive and breathtakingly intricate, are the result of months of work by thousands of dedicated volunteers. This rich tradition has even been recognized by UNESCO, which has inscribed the Dutch flower and fruit parades on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. There are two main seasons for these spectacular parades, each defined by the flowers in bloom. The spring parades, like the famous “Bloemencorso Bollenstreek,” are a highlight of the season. This parade is particularly popular as it passes through the famous Dutch flower bulb region, with the route often running by the world-renowned Keukenhof gardens. It’s a wonderful time to see the endless fields of tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths in full bloom. You’ll find these spring parades taking place around mid-April, which is typically when the flower fields are at their most colorful. Later in the year, in late summer and early autumn, the dahlia parades take center stage. These parades are known for their incredible use of dahlias, which are the main flower used to decorate the floats. Some of the most well-known dahlia parades include those in Zundert, Vollenhove, and Sint Jansklooster. The Corso Lichtenvoorde is another spectacular example of this tradition. The dahlia season generally runs from mid-August to mid-October, so this is the best time to plan a visit if you want to experience these particular parades. When planning your trip, keep in mind a few things. The spring parades, especially the one near Keukenhof, are incredibly popular, so it’s a good idea to book any accommodations or tours well in advance. Consider traveling by public transport to avoid traffic and parking issues. For both seasons, you can often find a good viewing spot along the route for free, but if you prefer a guaranteed seat, grandstand tickets are often available for purchase. Whichever parade you choose to visit, you’ll be sure to witness a truly unique Dutch experience and the incredible dedication of the people who bring these floral masterpieces to life.
