$1,350 Bangkok → Europe 🇹🇭 Is THAI Airways Business Class Worth It?

This week I’m leaving Bangkok and flying to
Europe. And I’ve decided to treat myself. So, we’re going to be traveling in style with
Thai Airways in business class. But is it actually worth the price? Well, come and
join me and let’s find out together. Okay, time to go. Time to go. Last minute
items from Miss P. Wet wipes. Okay, bye-bye Bangkok apartment. Bye-bye.
Bye-bye. Bye-bye, Bangkok. I’ll miss you, you beautiful animal. Bye-bye, gaming computer.
[Music] I forgot to lock the suitcase. Do you remember the code? Yeah. What
is it? Can’t tell. It’s secret. Are you going to miss me? 10 days. Yeah,
I think it’s 11 days. Not that long. I’ll round it out. I love these
short trips. Face ID. Thank you. Here comes the ride. Fantasy car. Okay, babe. Okay. I’ll see you in 11 days.
Yeah, not long. All right. Bye. Love you. Bye. Love you. Bye. Okay, so this travel
day is going to be quite long. Two flights, one bus, and I think one train from here in
Bangkok all the way to a little village in the French Alps. [Music] This will probably
be my last big international trip of the year and my last big trip for a long time because
I really want to focus back into Southeast Asia and Thailand for the next 12 months.
So, since I won’t be flying very much, I just felt like going all out to experience the
luxury side of air travel for a change. [Applause] [Music] All right, welcome to the Thai Airways
business class lounge, or as they call it, the Royal Silk Lounge. This is the first
time I’ve ever flown to Europe or anywhere with Thai Airways. So, I thought I would review
the airline experience all the way from Bangkok to Geneva. Although, the second flight, which is
actually from Istanbul. So, I’m flying 10 hours overnight to Istanbul. Then I exchange flights and
change airlines and then we go to Geneva. I don’t actually remember what that airline is, so I’ll
have to keep an eye out for that when I arrive. I think my bag will go all the way to Geneva.
Or at least that’s what my uh buddy who helped me with my bag told me. This lounge is huge. I’ve
never seen anything like it. It’s bigger than most airports. It has three or four separate areas
to get drinks and buffets. And there’s alakaral menu items. There’s a bar there’s a barman
making cocktails. Um there’s two bars with uh people making cocktails. And then there is
a separate section for the first class, but uh we don’t get access to that because I am flying
business class today, which I’m really excited about. By the way, I’m also I’m not drinking uh at
the at the moment. So, no champagne for me. So, if you’ve ever wondered what is it like to fly with
Thai Airways business class, well, this section of the video will be uh for you. Normally, I prefer
flying economy. Not just because it’s cheaper, but business class never really feels three
times the price. I have flown it once before and I just didn’t feel like it provided that much
difference in comfort or in service. Of course, it’s much nicer, but is it really worth three
times the price? I think I paid 50,000 Bart to get from Bangkok to Geneva. The reason why I decided
to pay um for the upgrade was I wanted to get to Europe well-rested because this is a night flight
and the day that I arrived I’m doing a 9-day hike so it’s going to be a lot of energy and I need
a good night’s sleep as much as possible. Plus, I just thought I’d treat myself cuz I always fly
economy. So, I thought I’d bring you guys along with me today and I’ll share my experience.
The first thing that’s let me down is the uh is the boarding passes. They’re made on flimsy
paper and it doesn’t say business class on it. I wanted it to be like in big bold letters.
Business class, you know, so then I can like put it in my passport like this and like show it
off to all the other people at the gate later. Oh, mine says business class. Yours says economy. So,
Thai Airways, if you are watching, can I get a nice card boarding pass that says business class
on it next time? Okay, let’s do a little review of the business class lounge. If you’ve ever
wondered, am I missing out? Uh, not really. Not really. There is an abundance of food. There’s so
many options, but I don’t really see anything that looks amazing to be honest. Like there’s Masaman,
there’s wantton soup, there’s pad kapa pow, but you know it’s buffet style, so it’s pretty
basic. Also, the clientele in here, it’s just the same clientele that you would get anywhere else in
any other part of the airport. There’s two Indian guys over there blasting Tik Toks on their phone.
There are kids running around screaming. There are people trying to sleep. There are people working.
It’s just the same as any other part of the airport. There is no insane luxury service here.
There’s no butler. This is just business class. And um I think with the amount of people that have
credit cards and priority points and club access lounges access as a perk for some kind of credit
card that they’ve signed up to, you get everybody in these lounges these days. Bit of a let down,
but at least it’s relatively uh quiet in this corner of the lounge. Now, obviously, my flight
is leaving from Thailand and my final destination will be France. And for the next 2 weeks, I’m
going to be in France, Italy, and Switzerland. So, I need an e sim that can cover me in this entire
region. Luckily, thanks to my sponsor, Aerolo, this has never been easier. One of the things I
don’t want to stress about other than this long travel day is getting to my final destination and
not being able to tell Miss P that I’ve arrived safely and not being able to access my emails
and my bus tickets and my train tickets and just, you know, general life maps and Instagram
posts and stuff like that, right? So, that’s why I always use. I’ve been using Eerilla now for
years, but they’ve got this brand new Discovery Plus ESIM package which covers an incredible
137 different countries, including Switzerland, France, and Italy. So, I’m covered for my entire
trip. The good thing about this ESIM is it lasts an entire year. I can get calls, texts, and data
without having to change my phone number. That is such a game changer. And I can track my usage of
the data and top it up if I need to, all within the Aerero app. So, if you’re traveling abroad,
download Aero the app. It’s completely free. And if you use my code Paddyy 3 at checkout, you’ll
actually get $3 off your first eSIM with Aerelo. Okay. So, welcome aboard Thai Airways business
class. I have to say I’m very very impressed. The seat is very comfortable. The seat is very
spacious and the staff have been so friendly. They’ve just take taken my food order already. So,
we’re going to get fed quite quickly after takeoff cuz this is a night flight. We’re leaving at 11:30
p.m. So, it would be nice to get fed quickly, get our heads down, and get some decent sleep
hopefully in time for breakfast. cuz I’ve also also just ordered my breakfast with the stuff.
I think I’m going to get like a fish congi which sounds nice. I don’t know how these YouTubers
do it. You know those YouTubers that review airlines? It’s just so awkward filming on
a plane and there’s all these announcements and everyone’s really nice and you know you’re
not supposed to film other people, right? So, it’s quite difficult. I don’t know how they do
it. I think I’ll just share little snippets of the flight and do a voice over for most of this
section because I want to share the experience of the flight, but I don’t want to talk to myself
cringy on a phone because just seems a bit weird, right? Let me do my impression of an airline
review YouTube channel. Strap. Here’s my seat. It was in a 121 configuration here on Thai
Airways. The seat came with some goodies, including these incredible Marshall headphones.
Very comfortable and great sound quality. I was very impressed. Next up was the Jim Thompson
amenity pack. They put a bunch of stuff in here to make you feel like you’re getting
your money’s worth. You get your eye mask, you get some silk socks, you get some hand creams,
a moisturizer, and yeah, just a few little goodies to help your flight become a little bit more
comfortable. I really liked the toothbrush and toothpaste. That’s such a good little move
because on a long flight, if you don’t pack your toothbrush, that can be really uncomfortable. Oh,
and they also had some slippers and my bedding for later when we do lie flat and try to get some
sleep. Overall, the seat was nice and wide, nice and comfy, and I was really happy with all
the amenities, including a hot towel to wash your face. Fabulous. Great leg room, big screen.
What more could you really ask for? [Music] There’s a fold out table thing. It is quite
fidgety, but you can fold it and get it out your way quite easily. Now, the movie selection is
not the best. If you’ve ever flown with Emirates, you’ll be spot for choice on that airline. With
airways like Thai Airlines, you don’t really get as much, but that’s fine. Anyway, let’s take off,
head into the sky, and begin the service. [Music] They began with some orurves, some salted
nuts, and a few little snacks. These were absolutely delicious, full of flavor. Really
happy with these little welcome snacks. Then for the starter, we had caviar. It was so
posh. It was served with a salad and some sort of meat pate and some eggs and some fruit. It
was absolutely delicious and just the perfect first meal. Honestly, pate and caviar on bread.
I mean, I thought I was in first class, let alone business. And then the main course was served. I
had a couple of dishes. I had this Thai omelette with rice. And then there was a bowl of vegetables
and the big bowl of beef shank curry. Basically, green curry with beef. It was really nice to have
Thai food on Thai Airways. And I knew this would be the last time I’d be having some spicy,
nutritious Thai food for a while. Overall, the food was 10 out of 10. It was fantastic.
Dessert was a cheeseboard and some fruit and some crackers. I was a bit full to be honest, so I
didn’t really get much chance to eat all of these, but uh then after that, it was time for sleep.
So, I got myself into my bed, put the chair into full flat light mode, I lied down, and got
comfortable. I ended up getting 6 hours sleep, which was great. I awoke to coffee and an
orange juice and I finished off my movie and uh about 2 hours away from landing, we were
served a breakfast. I got this big bowl of it’s like congi but it’s more meat forward. There is
rice porridge underneath all of this mushroom and meats and then they serve it with a fruit
compot and uh it was huge. I couldn’t finish it all. It tasted delicious, but I just wasn’t in
the mood for a giant bowl of fish congi after uh being asleep for a few hours. I felt like
I’d barely digested all the food from earlier on the flight. So anyway, then it was time to
land and we arrived here in Turkey, Istanbul. I had a connecting flight here. So yeah, let’s
get off the flight and go and find our lounge. And I’d heard that the lounges in Istanbul
were fantastic. So let’s go check them out. [Music] Okay, welcome to Istanbul. A lovely flight, great
service, great food, great seat and a bed. I got a few hours sleep. I got a few hours sleep. Probably
three or four good hours and then one or two not sure if I was awake or asleep kind of sleep.
But um we’ve got about 5 and 1/2 hours now until my next flight to Geneva. I think it’s Turkish
Airlines, but I have to double check and find out. All right, that was easy. They have fast track
for business class. These are things you don’t think about, but there was an almighty queue for
the transfer desk. You know, go through security. huge queue. And then I thought, hang on a minute.
There’s a sign over there that says fasttrack and business class get to use that. So that is just
such a extra little added bonus. 5 minutes and I’m through. Okay, welcome to the fancy Turkish
Airlines business lounge. Look at this. Ooh, lad. Okay, here’s my review of the Turkish
Airlines business lounge. All right, so it is huge. It’s very lavish. And there’s a
million people in here. And I have one seat. I found one seat. I was about to leave because
there was literally nowhere to sit. There are hundreds of people stuffing their face with food.
And I don’t really understand because you stuff your face in the lounge before you fly. You stuff
your face during the flight. And then during the layover, it’s like these people have never eaten
in their life. The amount of food that they’re putting on the plates, the amount of plates that
they’re putting on the table is grotesque. There are sleep rooms. You can take a nap if your
layover is more than 4 hours, which mine is, but because I’m not flying with Turkish Airlines
the entire way, it doesn’t apply. I can’t go take a nap. I’m just going to enjoy my little
nook. We’ll see if I can get a little nap cuz I’m I’m still tired. Like I did sleep, but
it’s not good quality sleep on an airplane. Okay, after this coffee and a naughty little
chocolate cake, it was time for the second leg of the flight. And it was a flight from Istanbul all
the way to Geneva with Turkish Airlines. Here’s the plane. What a great shot of another plane
coming into land. Right, let’s go find our seat. This is business class, bigger seats, but this is
just one of those smaller types of planes, so it wasn’t super fancy. Big screen, loads of leg room,
22 configuration, and uh yeah, we were up and away straight away. Nice headphones again and a great
view of the beautiful coastline of Istanbul. I really got to come here and explore one day.
Soon after takeoff, we were served our dinner. Now again, at this point, I’m still not really
that hungry, but here we are. We’ve got a prawn salad. It’s a bit like a Caesar salad dressing
with some iceberg lettuce and some prawns. It was a bit messy, but tasted good. The green stuff
was not good, but that bowl of looks like rice pudding right on the right, that was delicious.
They did give me the menu cuz I wanted to share with you the other options you can have. And also
the mains. I actually didn’t want a mane. There was a steak on there as well, I believe. But I
just couldn’t face eating anything else, guys. All these lounges, all these flights, all you do is
stuff your face. So, I just couldn’t bear eating another plate of food and putting it to waste.
By far the highlight of the flight anyway was just watching the Alps and our playground flying
underneath us as we came into Geneva for a very pleasant, very safe, and very foodfilled journey
on two flights all the way from Bangkok to Geneva. Okay, success. 30 minutes ago, I was flying above
Mount Blanch Mastiff in the sky. Beautiful views. And 30 minutes later, I’ve got my bag. Priority
baggage for business class and I’m straight out. Passport baggage claim done. And I’m so
early. I’m think I’m going to try and get on the next bus to Shaman cuz my bus doesn’t
leave till 5:00 and that’s in 3 hours. So, let’s see if we can get on the next one. [Music]
Yeah. Luckily, I was able to get onto this bus, this Flick bus up and over to the Alps. I
was pretty tired. It had been a long journey, but the mountains were revealing themselves,
and I knew we were getting close. And uh adventures were very soon around the corner.
Okay, welcome to Shaman. We’re not there yet, though, cuz I’m not staying in this town. I’m in
a village, I think, about 15 minutes up the road. I’m going to figure out if I can find a way there.
Yeah, this is Shaman, one of the most popular ski resorts in the Alps. And here in the summer,
it was boiling hot. 34° [Music] €1.50 for a bus ticket from Shaman to the little village that I’m
staying at called Laouch. But I’ve actually got a return for €3 because I’m going to come back to
Shaman I think maybe after I check in actually because uh my friends are in town and I haven’t
seen them for ages. Honestly, getting on this bus, it was packed. It was boiling. Oh, miserable.
But anyway, about half an hour later on this sticky hot bus, we were here at Lahouch. This is
my hotel, the Ibis Styles. And this is my hotel room. Quite fancy and quite affordable really.
Over just over €100. Okay, we made it all the way from Bangkok to Istanbul over to Geneva and then
up into the French Alps here in Leah. That bus was hot and sweaty. I definitely am in the wrong
attire. I had no idea it was this hot. It is 34 C here in Shamine and it was even hotter down in
Geneva. So, I’m going to unpack, have a shower, and this is the first and only night accommodation
in a hotel that I’ll be having for the next 9 days because I’m doing the Mount Blancc loop, a
very famous multipleday hike that goes around this beautiful mastiff of mountains and peaks,
including the tallest mountain in this region, Mount Blanc. Anyway, thanks for watching. Don’t
forget to download Aerolo if you’re going on a trip. get the best deal, get the Discovery Plus or
just search for the specific country or region and uh use code P3 at checkout and you’ll get a nice
little discount. I hope you enjoyed the journey. My overall evaluation and summary is business
class makes it more comfortable. It definitely makes it more speedy in terms of picking
up baggage, fasttracking through things, but um yeah, it was a special experience to to do
it off my own back and to do it off my own coin. But would I do it again? Probably if
if you pay for it next time. All right.

  1. That’s a great price! I’ve always found Thai Airways to have the most expensive business class tickets on the London-Bangkok route (£3000++). Well deserved !

  2. I have travelled BC with Emirates and the Thai Air food looked far superior than anything I ever got flying with Emirates.

  3. The only time I wish I was under 5'7" is when I fly overseas. I burn up all my miles booking business class because the discomfort in the economy class is unbearable. I had to pay full fare, and I'd probably limit the number of times I come to Thailand.

  4. Great video as always Paddy, looking forward to your hike, your Swiss one was the best 😊

  5. Aww you went to the wrong check-in counter that’s why your boarding pass is like a toilet paper 😂 there is a dedicated business/first class checkin counter at Row A (after entry gate 1) there is orchids flower and a sofa at the counter 😊 and the fast track security line is just behind it. You will get a nicer boarding pass there ❤

  6. I sat in Emirates first class for 1 hr of a 9hr flight once. I was an unaccompanied minor so i had to sit (deplane last) there as in my trackies n sandals while a massive line of ppl walked passed me to exit, i could feel the glares "tf is this hobo looking teenager doing alone in first class". Simultaneously one of the best n worst moments from my teenage years

  7. Never got caviar in BC with Thai Airways 🫣
In French we say « Lé zouch » 😉
The ticket price is very competitive
The BKK fast track (A dedicated counters) for checking in, security and emigration is one of the fastest I’ve ever seen, can get the full process completed for less than 5min, amazing 🇹🇭
Chamonix is a must spot for alpinism & trekking, enjoy

  8. Not sure what connecting flight in Istanbul? Don't know if your bags will go all the way to Switzerland? Are you an amateur, that's not a question.

  9. Off to Thailand next month on economy 😢. But I think when I go back next year I’ll go business class. Great video

  10. I agree with you. Comfort is good but if it's 3 times more than economy then probably not.

  11. Brilliant…enjoyed watching. Never flown business class either….would love to but not sure can justify the cost !!!

  12. I'm happy you're concentrating on Southeast Asia, my personal favourite videos,
Business class when you're not drinking 😂 why . 😂😂
    ?

  13. Good deal Paddy!
On Air Canada, it would have been 5 times that price, with a service level 10 times less and angry entitled staff.

  14. I feel the same way about justifying NOT flying Business Class. It's just not a good value for the money when you take everything into consideration. If I'm able to get the ticket price for slightly higher than Economy Class, then I may consider it on a long haul flight for the more comfortable seats.

  15. Sorry mate but flying indirect isn’t worth the penny pinch and you won’t understand that until you’ve experienced a ten hour delay on that second flight😂flying direct economy way better than indirect business unless your doing a stopover

  16. In all my years of travel around the world, I view business class in this way. f you have so much discretionary income it makes no difference in price then go for it! If that ticket prevents you from doing other things or takes away from savings then its not worth the cost. If get that smoking deal then go for it!

  17. you should just worry about yourself and not worry about what others are doing or eating!! You are sounding more like a winging Pom! 🤔

  18. Hahah I don’t understand how people can eat so much in the lounges either! 😅 I love the lounges for the little nooks and easy access power and table for my laptop but I save the eating for the plane because it’s so fun!

  19. Love watching your videos Paddy & even better when youre experiencing something new for the 1st time. Business class is a real conundrum, its very nice, full of food but hard to justify. Sometimes its the small details that you enjoy more than the buffet food etc, much like your experience with speedy baggage, a good sleep & express customs……still hard to justify on prIce but hey, we all deserve a little treat sometimes…..I've done it, but the key is to appreciate it by not doing it all the time. Certain airlines ARE worth doing e,g Singapore & Emirates but not all airlines. Buyer beware! Love your work Paddy……SO EXCITED FOR THE INCOMING SERIES AND YOUR 9 DAY WALK REVIEW !!! YEAH BOY!
