これがホテル?山奥の秘境にある改札0秒の無人駅舎ホテルに宿泊!築100年の産業遺産を貸切気分で満喫|電車見放題 NIPPONIA HOTEL 高野山

This time, I stayed at a hotel inside a train station, where you can watch trains as much as you like. A secret world with only two rooms available per day… enjoy! I arrived by Nankai Railway at the unmanned “Kōyashita Station.” This time, I’ll be staying at a “station hotel” located at the foot of Mt. Kōya, a World Heritage Site. Check-in begins at 4:00 p.m. It seems I’m the only one getting off here. Well then, let’s head to the hotel. I’ve arrived. Station Hotel: “NIPPONIA HOTEL Kōyasan Sankeitetsudō Operated by KIRINJI” Since there is no front desk, the key code is sent in advance by email. Wow, this is great! Two-person room: TENKU (“Sky”). A compact room of 17 square metres. This used to be a crew waiting area, now converted into a guest room. The room is very clean and tidy. The hotel, renovated from a station nearly 100 years old, uses parts from retired trains. You can almost imagine what it was like back then. The room even has original train straps, giving it a sense of history. Around the station, there are no convenience stores or supermarkets. Since there are no restaurants nearby, it’s best to buy dinner beforehand. It doesn’t look like there are any vending machines either. That’s why bottled water is provided in the fridge. There’s a kettle, so you can make instant noodles. The space preserves the old station atmosphere while adding modern touches. It feels natural and refined. There’s even a foldable driver’s seat. It’s an actual piece that was once in use. Feels like I’m the driver myself! Next to the bed, there are brochures about local sightseeing. Recommended spots include the Sanada Museum in Kudoyama and Mt. Kōya. There’s also a first aid kit for emergencies. Unlikely to be needed, but reassuring. Where the ticket gate once stood, there’s now a counter table. On the table are train instruments as decoration. There are collections of Hemingway’s short stories and works by Makoto Shiina. It seems these were books read by staff in their spare time. Plenty of documents are placed on the table. Including maps of the Kōya pilgrimage routes. Mt. Kōya is still the headquarters of Shingon Buddhism, attracting many pilgrims. In the past, people would walk the mountain paths, but now the Nankai Kōya Line serves as the “pilgrimage road.” On the double bed, amenities are provided. Since train sounds are constant, earplugs are provided. Also provided are a comb, toothbrush, and towels. From the window, you can watch trains pass endlessly. It’s a dream view for train lovers. Open the window and you can see the ticket gate. A view you can only see here. Feels a bit like a secret base – exciting. A little spooky with no one around, but fun. As of 2024, Kōyashita Station’s average daily ridership was only 68 people. That ranks it 95th among Nankai’s 100 stations. On the platform is the “Nankai Memory Museum.” Let’s have a look. It was established as part of the 80th anniversary of the Kōya Line. Oh! Nobody here. Feels like I have it all to myself! There’s a waiting room on the platform. The lights turn on as soon as someone enters. Retro and nice. There was even air conditioning! Very thoughtful. Inside are details about the museum and its location. On the “display tree” were old rails from five companies. You can even touch them. In the display cases were rail spikes and company emblems once attached to train cars. This was the first museum of its kind at a major private railway station in Japan. It’s wonderful that you can enjoy the museum even while staying overnight. It feels as though the entire station has become a museum. Inside, old station name signs have been restored and displayed. I noticed there was a door in my room. But it was locked, so you can’t enter from there. Apart from the room I stayed in, there’s one more guest room here. The “Kōya” room was once a staff dormitory. In February 2009, it was recognised as a Modern Industrial Heritage site. I wonder what it looks like outside the station? Stepping outside… Pitch dark. You can hear the soothing sound of the river. A real ASMR moment. In the corridor, there are photos of past pilgrimages to Mt. Kōya. It is said that there used to be inns as well. Swallows also live on the stairs. Hmm? That one is quite large. All the others have left the nest, only one remains. Seems it doesn’t want to leave the nest. Back in the room, I take a bath. The bathroom is new and very clean. I thought it was just a shower, but there’s also a bathtub – nice. Such a modern bathroom, hard to believe it’s inside a wooden station. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash. The last train has left, and today’s operation is finished. The ticket machines are closed, but the lights stay on. It’s nearly midnight. Time to get some rest. Good night… Good morning. Once again, I’m the only one at the station. Such a calm and quiet morning. This plan even includes breakfast. But breakfast is served at the next station, Kudoyama. With the ticket to Kudoyama and the breakfast coupon, I check out. For the Kōyashita–Kudoyama section, a return ticket is provided. Kudoyama Station was also renovated at the same time. Along with the renovation, a breakfast space was created. Breakfast is served at the “Omusubi Stand Kudo” inside Kudoyama Station. It opens at 9:00 a.m. Local Koshihikari rice from Kudoyama is cooked in a traditional wood-fired stove. The atmosphere feels just as historic as Kōyashita. The “Omusubi Stand Kudo” offers more than ten varieties of rice balls made with local Wakayama ingredients. The breakfast area is an open free space within the station. Even here, the design includes unique features using retired train parts. An old Nankai line route map. Retro and cute design. At the back, there is a signal control panel. You can touch it freely – perfect for kids who love trains. There are also magazines about Kudoyama. A very relaxing space. Looks like breakfast is ready. ♩ The breakfast coupon includes a salted rice ball + a daily special rice ball, with miso soup and pickles. A traditional Japanese breakfast – looks delicious. The rice balls are gently shaped and taste wonderful. Where should I go next? Thank you for watching until the end.

  13. 한국의 옛 경주역의 경우 역건물은 특별전시공간으로, 역장 관사는 카페로 재활용되는 정도입니다만, 이건 또 나름 참신하네요. 잘 보고갑니다.
