See what I mean? Everywhere. Everywhere. It’s like being in India. Real proper local area. This is You don’t really see many tourists here. Good job. This is absolutely untouched. No tourists. Hi guys, welcome back. We’re on to Bridges. If you’re new here, we’re a full-time travel couple from the UK. We are currently in Sri Lanka and today is a travel day. We’re traveling by the local public bus. So, it’s going to be interesting. We also have our family with us. my sister, her husband, two nieces, Evelyn and Ly. So, it’s going to be fun with kids because they’re already playing with our bags. Um, but first of all, we’ve got to get a tuk tuk there. And I think the bus journey is about 8 hours. But look at this for a view. I’m going to miss this accommodation. Oh, I meant 2 hours. Sorry. We’re actually heading to a new bit of Sri Lanka that we’ve never been. Tangal. Yeah. Uh, Tangal. But this one’s a city that no one ever visits. But um this yeah, no one visits here. No one visits Tanga. So they’re two new places. But here we’ve absolutely loved it here. So I’m hoping we’re going to get the same sort of experience in Tanga. It looks absolutely beautiful. The beaches look unbelievable. And we need we need definitely need a bit of beach. Yeah, we haven’t really had a beach. We started off in Numbo, but the beach was quite rubbish there. So we’re hoping we’ll get a nice tropical beach. Um see turtles and turtles. Yeah, it’ll be good. see bit more of the beach side of Sri Lanka. But as I said, epic travel day. So, we have to get through that. But we’re up quite early, half 9. We’re just going to go and check out, pay the man, and head on down there and order a tuk tuk from PickMe. PickMe is absolutely fantastic. Now, the first time we ever come to Shanga, probably even the second time, it never worked, but now it works loads, which is super easy, especially when you’re in like locations like here where there’s like no tuk tuks hanging around. But this was our room. This is the good thing about this room. We had water, tea, coffee, fridge, everything you can imagine. Really good AC. Um, so I highly recommend. It’ll be in the description down below where we stay. Um, you always pay at the end. You never pay on We use Booker.com here in Sri Lanka, but you never pay online. But this is beautiful. Look, we’ve got a swimming pool around there. No one else is staying there. There’s only four apartments and no one else has been here the whole time. So, my sister’s been in that one and we’ve been up there. And then you got Lac Roycefield. It’s super hot though. It’s like 34°. So long husbands. Don’t return anytime soon. Now just the girls. This time we got the little one lots. Need to call Jlyn again. Why are you so sad to be with us? No. She’s miserable. Thank you. Right. We have already spoke to the geyser and that is our bus there. So happy days. We only got way around. Is there a luggage bit to put our our bags in the back? The luggage? Yeah. Let’s get [Music] empty. Nice. Yeah. Right. We’ve got 2 hours at least 2 hours on this absolute sweat box, mate. It is so hot. It’s actually quite horrible. But sort of getting used to this public transport vibe. Once it gets going, once you get on the move and you get the breeze through the windows and that ain’t too bad. And we are leaving heading up the coast. Yeah, it should be quite a nice scenic route. Let’s go. So, we’re heading 73 km and it only costs 277 for me and Brienne. But I don’t actually think Yeah, it’s nothing. Literally less than a pound, mate. And honestly, it is the hottest day we’ve had so far. Probably not the best time to be on the bus, but beautiful, beautiful views. All the rice fields and stuff. Nice. Right, Brian’s just next to me. Obviously, this is tight. Yeah, this is really tight. Both are wide behind. Obviously, the uh the monk the monk got on. So out of respect, you are supposed to move for the month. But um we are leaving the the island district. The main reason we came here is for safari. We actually done in the last episode we done a really like amazing safari. Go back and check it out. But if you look around here, the scenery is absolutely unbelievable. Mainly Royce fields. So this region of Yala is the biggest producer of Royce in Sri Lanka. They produce 1,840 metric tons of rice per year. So yeah, it’s a big big player in uh Sri Lanka’s economy. It’s really honestly it’s beautiful and and these little towns and villages, they’re so uh interesting to discover. So if you ever get a chance to come to Sri Lanka, make sure you go off the beaten path and discover these towns. Tisamahara is village. Highly recommend it. Really, really, really nice people. They’re super nice. So it was only 277 rupees I think you said that didn’t you? So it’s only 270 rupees per person, but the guy was like it was so little was like ah no, you don’t have to even pay. It’s so nice. The tickets get in there early so you can get a seat. But it’s not too busy actually. Like when we come here years ago like the trains were on stroke so we had to end up standing up for like hours. But once you get going and the wind once you get going and the windows open, it’s actually quite breezy and it’s all right. Like when we first sat on it, I was like, “Oh, it’s so hot.” You can see like, “Oh, wow. This is actually quite nice. You can see the buffalo, the nature, the views here in Schlang is something else. Wo, these are crazy. This actual um the southwest region was like really really beautiful. Obviously the weather helps. It’s been quite the last two days really, really hot. Um real clear clear skies, but it’s it’s really beautiful. Everyone seems to be getting off. This must be the final stop. All right, mission is to grab your bags now. Thank you. Right, we got a 12minut walk. Keep your eyes peeled for a wine shop. Get the essentials right first. It’s very local here. We’re obviously everyone’s looking at us like we got five heads because we are a little bit different, but we don’t care. Love it. Love all the local feel. We got a shop just below our place which they own. So, uh convenient. Got a sitting area, dining table. This is massive, isn’t it? Nice fridge. Wow. Yeah. wet room situation like traditional style in Sri Lanka. Towels. It’s all right. £25 a night for all of us. Six of us. Good deal. Beaches this way. 400 m. 200 m. Wow. Amazing. Yeah, I see it. Yeah. Wow. Perfect. Yeah, this is perfect. Right, we’re all settled in. Um Rian’s gone off to do some laundry with her sister. Uh didn’t fancy that. So I’m going to go and get a haircut. I did see like a real cool local place next to the bus station. Um I’ve got a little screenshot of a haircut that I want and don’t know. See how we get on. This is what I’m going for. Generic short back and sides. Can’t go wrong. All the fish is getting ready for the morning markets. Should be around here somewhere. Real proper local area. This is I don’t really see many tourists here. And I am standing out like anything. Here it is. Salon. Hello. Haircut. Haircut. Yeah. Thank you. Statist needed it done for ages to be honest. didn’t ask him the voice. So, we’ll see. Might fall off the sweat coming off my face. You get many foreigners in here. Do you have many foreigners in here? Yeah. Yeah. Many foreigners. [Music] Good job. Good job. Yeah. Good job. Three times Sri Lanka. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. People are very nice. Huh? I’m very first time in Tangala. Yeah. First time. I’ve been uh all all the way up to Japna and lots of places in Sri Lanka. But first time in Tangalo. [Music] How much? How much do I owe you? 3,500. 3,500. 3,500. Don’t ever I have no No, that’s all I have. Yeah, it’s good. Yeah. Okay, man. See you later. He was massaging me for literally about half hour and I was like I had to tell him that’s enough in the end. I say, “Yeah, no, that’s enough, mate.” And um yeah, and then and then he’s like he’s obviously charged me 3,500 and I thought sounded sounded too much. So I was like, “Yeah, fair enough. Whatever.” Well, I only have 3,000, which he took. But I don’t know. I feel like when they when they take ages doing stuff and I was just like I was thinking all the way through of it, mate, he’s going to he’s going to scam me here. I say say scam me, he’s going to charge me too much. But, you know, he did he did done a decent job. Happy with the shave. Got all all the scraggly bits and the air looks all right as well. What you think? Pretty happy with it. Anyway, let’s get back. I don’t know what Rihanna’s getting on or or anything. To be honest, I was expecting like maybe like 2,000 and I bought 3,000. I thought I’ll give him a little tip if you’ve done a good good job. And I was ready to give a tip. Um, and then he charged me more than I had and I was like, “Oh, mate, I haven’t got enough.” Anyway, happy with it. Good job. Actually, come to think of it, right, I’ve had a little thought. I’ve had about 10 minutes walk and I’ve had a bit of chance to think. He deserves it. He was funny. And to be honest, he was he he done a good job and he probably needs the money more than me. So, am I am I gutted that maybe I paid a little bit more? It’s still three or four times cheaper than the UK, so I don’t care. And let’s Yeah, let’s go. Good morning, guys. It’s a beautiful day here in Tangala and we’re going out to explore. But first of all, we need to go for breakfast. We spent the morning just sorting the life out, doing a bit of washing cuz it’s been far too long. Imagine trying to do it with family of four, though. So, we’ve had to take some to the lingerette and wash some here at accommodation cuz we haven’t got time to get it all done. But already we found a nice breakfast spot just along the beach. Um, yeah, hungry. Right. So, this city is very well not touristy at all. Literally, I haven’t seen a western the whole time we’ve been here. It’s um the like nearby places like Marissa and Utana are the tourist places and this place gets a little bit overlooked, but I have heard that the beaches are absolutely beautiful and untouched. So, I’m excited to see it. That’s where we’re going to head. Obviously, we’re going to have breakfast first, find a real local spot, and then going to go and discover the beaches. Turquoise waters, golden sand. Excited to see it. Yeah, it looks like everyone’s going to church and stuff. So, when you go to these smaller towns, this is only a 72,000 people in this town. So, you notice that the pavements are a little bit smaller. So, we’re literally on the road now. It’s all about discovering different places. So obviously we we’re going off the beaten path in this trip. Yeah, I have noticed obviously we’re not this isn’t a Christian town. This is not Numbo, but I’ve noticed that there is a lot of uh a lot of Christian churches. So along this coast, this is where Numbo is. So maybe you do get more Christians here. But we’re going to go here. Kef Salt Breeze. Looks right. Eggs and avocado. Posh breakfast right on the beach. Yeah. Yes. Our first look at the beach. Uh, I’ve not been here. I’ve been to Sri Lanka many times, but not here. Not here. No. He recognizes me. Go on them faces. The Sri Lankans are so nice. So hospitable. Always a warm welcome. Feel like a special guest every time you go to a place. Seesaw view with breakfast. Been going through this menu over and over and over and over again. I have no idea what to get. Like I keep changing my mind all the time. I’m poached eggs, then I’m Sri Lankan omelette, then I’m smoothie bowl. I don’t know what to get. So Rian is going to choose for me. Do you want to choose for me? I’ll choose it. All right. It’s going to be great. Can’t decide cuz there’s so much on the menu. She’s going to pick for me. Make an omelette. You know what? I might shuffle it. I I secretly wanted an omelette, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, that your one looks banging. Which one? Oh man, that is a good coffee. Is it? Yeah. It also It says Sri Lankan coffee as well. See coffee. Is it locally sourced coffee? Excellent. Try this one. Thanks, Jo. I’m not a massive fan of milky coffees. Too much milk. Yeah, but this coffee is It almost doesn’t need sugar. Oh, I normally have a sugar with my coffee, but that’s very strong. What’s that? You’re a black coffee fan as well. Yeah, that’s better. Best coffee we’ve had. Yeah, it is the best coffee we’ve had. Yeah, I’m just going to video myself drinking this for the next 15 minutes. So, enjoy. You can’t beat a Sri Lankan omelette. I don’t even Oh my god, that does look like a lot of chili in there. Oh, mate. Look, look at all the chilies. He’s done me in he has got a little kick. Ain’t too bad though. This is um I think spice adds flavor. 10 out of 10. Right. Highly recommended this place. Excellent breakfast actually and really really really nice people. Um like shranka. They’re always nice. But yeah, if you want some um something a bit more western or you can get a shriank omelette. Uh definitely recommend this place. And nice views of the sea. I ain’t seen this for a few years when they put the glass in the cement. Used to always see that like back in the ‘ 90s and stuff. I actually forgot to show you my dish. I actually had avocado and alcohol toast and it was unreal. It was really big portion. It was a little bit slow in there like um a couple of dishes come out quite after the other ones, but he did apologize and say because it’s off season, they haven’t got many staff in at the moment, but it’s fine. The food’s good and the price is good. So, nice place. Recommend it. Um, we’ve just come down. I think we’ve got the bus terminal, but like looking at the shops, we’ve ran out of wash and Ben’s wearing my t-shirt. That actually suits me a little bit better cuz everything’s in the wash at the moment, so no one’s got any clothes, but this is I would normally wear this my running gear, but it’s all we got. Um, and my sister put her bikini in at the lingerette yesterday, so she has no bikini to go to the beach. So, we’re going to see if we can find one, but I don’t think there is one. But I think we’re going to head to um Turtle Beach or Rakawada or something like that. Is about 20 to 30 minutes hook to ride like a bit of a distance, right? You know, I was 500 short the other day. I just walking down the road and I’m pretty sure. Yeah, there’s the salon. So, let’s go and give him the the 500. 500. I I owe you. Thank you, man. See you later, mate. He’s such a nice guy. Right guys, um as well as being vloggers and all this sort of thing and enjoying ourselves in this beautiful weather in this beautiful place, we’ve also got to do real life. And real life does actually get in the way sometimes. So, we’re just getting a tuk tuk. Just arrived now. Look at that. And we’ve got to go and get our laundry done. So, that’s why I’ve got our bag. We’ve um we’ve dropped it off and we just got to pick it up. Now, what you can actually do with a pick me is put in a return location. So, we just need to pick up our laundry. So, we going to run in and then jump back in and it’ll bring us straight back. How good is that? It’s only like 600 rupees. We just need to grab laundry. Our laundry? Yeah. Grab laundry and then come back. I love that they wrap it up. Yeah, it’s all folded nicely. look so excited as well. This place was like a bit pricey. It was like 1,000 um per kilo or something like that. So this was more on a bend and it cost us 2,100. And then that’s my sister. But she’s got two kids. So yeah, excellent service. Thank you. We was contemplating actually walking up there um for the sake of 1,000 rupees and uh a 5m minute drive. It’s techly 600 rupee but we always ran out. Yeah. Yeah. He to be fair to him. He did wait for us as well. Have you looking to get laundry done here? Perfect laundry. Five-star service as you can see. Yeah. Right. I think I found the best thing about Tangal. It’s uh not only is it very nice, very friendly people, they’ve also got a stretch of beach like this, like this. And it goes right further, further, further. And this is absolutely untouched. No tourists, no people. We’re the only people on this beach, mate. Honestly, mate, it’s absolutely beautiful. But yeah, look at that. Look at the sea there. Yeah, it’s quite mental over there in that as well. But the weather here has been absolutely beautiful. Look, no clouds in the sky and the moon. I have noticed um a little a little bit like India. There’s definitely more cows here. Baby cow. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing, but let me know. This um southern province, lots of cows. These two fellas are supposed to be loose. Oi. Oi. See what I mean? Everywhere. Everywhere. It’s like being in India. The young machans playing cricket. You do notice there’s a real sense of community here in Sri Lanka. A lot of family activities, a lot of friends playing together. There’s no uh devices, you know, like in the west where all the kids are on tablets all the time. They’re on their phones or whatever. Here in Sri Lanka, everyone’s doing things and obviously it helps that they’ve got lovely weather and stuff, but it’s just the c I think it’s a cultural thing. It’s not all about the weather. It’s all about the culture. It’s very nice to see. We’ve actually made it to a more chilled area, so the waves aren’t as mental. And there’s loads of local people here. We thought there was no one here, but look, it’s full. Got little shops, hearts, ice cream, clothes shop. Oh, this is beautiful, isn’t it, Ben? It’s love it. Look at this. What difference to where we were a minute ago? I was just I was just Hello. Hello. Hello. I was just speaking about thing I love about Sri Lanka is the sense of community and the way that uh all the kids are playing with their friends rather than sitting there on tablets and stuff. It’s such a different culture to the west. Yeah, 100%. Look how busy it is here. Oh wow. I’m going to take off my sandals. Got to go and test the water. There’s a dog. Of course, there’s always dogs. Hello. Look at this little bit I found. No one here. Like my little island. Puppies down. Let’s go in. Oh, wow. Oh, that’s lovely. Oh, that’s really nice. Hey, what are you doing? I don’t know. What are you doing? I um This is not good. Why did you do that? I didn’t think it would come up so far. I did. I did trip tread in dog mess earlier, so I wanted to think off. Oh my god, you’re such an idiot. What I have noticed on this beach compared to Mumbo Beach, absolutely no rubbish. It’s like proper beautiful. I’m not saying the Gumbo Beach was horrible, but there was a lot of um a lot of rubbish. And I don’t know whether it’s cuz it’s uh it’s it’s facing the Indian coast or I’m not I’m not I’m not not actually sure. But uh yeah, beautiful lovely city. Right, we are just going for a little evening stroll. Looking for a nice place to eat. Eat a good Sri Lankan meal, have a few beers. It’s very quiet along here. Obviously, we’re out of season at the moment, so a lot of these places are closed, but I’m looking on the Google maps and stuff, and there is a a place which got a review like 3 weeks ago. So, let’s see if it’s open. Here’s the sign. Chill Hut restaurant and Rooms, mate. I hope it’s open. It don’t look very promising. Yes, it does look open. Hello. Hello. Locals having a beer in here. That’s always a good sign. Let’s try it. Little gentle bit of reggae. I am liking the vibe. It is nice. Got a fan. Got a mosquito incense $850 for a line. Bargain. And they’ve got Eric as well. Everyone’s been telling me to try it. Who’s everyone? Everyone shrank people. Our mate our mate last week. Yeah, he did, didn’t he? He did. Our mate last night told us to try it. So, we are right by the sea. It would be rude not to have any fish ingredient. Yeah. I’m going to go for the ve cal calamari rice. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, nice. Evelyn, how is it? She looks well happy. Oh. Oh, it’s going to sp good. Good Ed. Thank you. Thank you very much. [Music] But there’s something about the name Chill. So, Chill Bar we went to in EDA was an absolute vibe. And I said that on the video. Chill Hut Bar and CF. This one absolute vibe again, but this is a little bit more family run place. I like it. It’s cool. And we got a mix of locals and tourists. And we they give us like like last time they give us our own area. Yeah. Good hospitality so far. I like it. That’s strong. So yeah, I’ve got the sniff it. You want to sniff it? No. I was going to try a little bit. No, let him do it for No, let go. I want to try a little bit. Just try it. Try try it. Good. Is it good? It’s got um All right, let’s give it a go. Do you Do you like it? Yeah, you like it. Yeah, it’s okay. All of it. Oh, it’s okay. Yeah, it’s good. Coconut. Uh a little bit. It’s not really like like harsh, is it? But I did ask for Sri Lankan spicy like I always do. Um, and he he he stayed he stuck around to to make sure to watch me try it. Sara mental choice. Yeah. A little kick, but it’s delicious. But it looks sweet as well. That’s wow. Nice. The calamar look really soft and chewy. Good. Amazing. Oh, he’s actually just bought these out. He said he said you want spicy, try these. [Music] Yeah. No, it’s Yeah, it’s spicy. But um You can handle it. I can handle it, man. I love it. I love it. Wait now. Look at that. Proper squid. Is that a squid? So it’s so good. Equid brain. It’s like your heaven, is it? Spicy weird stuff. Spicy squid. [Music] Mate, they’ve just bought out extras. bananas, watermelon. They honestly hospitality they could not do enough. But I’m going to end the video here. We’ve had the most unbelievable time here. This was off the beaten path. Like I say, if you ever come to Sri Lanka, make sure you just explore different areas and different cities, different towns. It will make your trip so much better.
