⁴ᴷ Osaka: Shin Imamiya Station (大阪府: 新今宮駅) – Japan Walking Tour (August, 2025)

Exploring Shinsekai and Nishinari: A Walk Through Osaka’s Contrasting Streets

I traveled to Osaka and Nagoya, both to visit the Expo and to try out traveling with my bicycle using public transportation.

When booking a hotel with access and cost in mind for the Expo site, I ended up staying near Shin-Imamiya Station. This area is close to both Shinsekai and Nishinari, so I decided to take a walk around there.

Shinsekai has completely transformed compared to the old days and is now a lively tourist destination. On the other hand, the long shopping arcade near Dōbutsuen-mae Station, which is adjacent to Tobita Shinchi, still has a distinctly Nishinari atmosphere. The street was lined with Chinese-style karaoke bars and izakayas, and many women—likely working as touts—stood along the arcade, creating a very different scene from Shinsekai.
