Thanks so much for watching — hope you enjoy the video! [MINUKEE] Hi everyone! This is Minukee 🙂 [MINUKEE] Today, I’m heading off to Fukuoka for a one-day trip! (awkward tone) Cutting out all the awkward greetings… and *boom* — teleporting to Fukuoka! I’ve arrived in Fukuoka — the gateway to Kyushu and a total food paradise! To take the subway, I need to get to the domestic terminal, so I’m hopping on the free shuttle bus. If you have a contactless card, you can ride without a transit card. And no matter how much you ride in one day, it’s capped at 640 yen (~$4.40)!
*Same price as the unlimited Fukuoka subway pass From the airport, it’s just two stops to Hakata Station — the heart of Fukuoka. [MINUKEE] I’ve just arrived at Hakata Station. [MINUKEE] Should I kick things off with a mentaiko baguette…? [MINUKEE] First meal…? (I usually don’t count bread as a “meal.”) [MINUKEE] I’m heading over to grab a simple mentaiko baguette. The clean streets really make it feel like I’m in Japan. [MINUKEE] I’m going to a bakery called Dakomekka (ダコメッカ). [MINUKEE] Apparently, it’s one of the top three bakeries in Fukuoka. [MINUKEE] They open at 8, and it’s 8:02 right now. [MINUKEE] Luckily, there doesn’t seem to be a line. I confidently walked in… but something felt off. [MINUKEE] Oh… THAT was the entrance…;; Turns out I wandered in through the exit… haha. Finally stepping into the carb heaven of Dakomekka! Wow… why does everything here look so ridiculously good? I have a lot to eat today, so I told myself just one baguette… but I’m 100% tempted to get more. Trying to stay strong and stick with just the mentaiko baguette. But seriously, why are there so many kinds of baguettes…? [MINUKEE] There are way too many baguette choices… (Asked with a translator app, and the staff kindly explained.) Behold, my beautiful mentaiko baguette 🧡 [MINUKEE] Take away. [Staff] Cash or credit card? [MINUKEE] Cash! The cute little machine took my bill and spit out a handful of coins.
(Mentaiko baguette — 367 yen / ~$2.55) My first successful purchase in Japan! [MINUKEE] Baguette secured! [MINUKEE] Time to taste this mentaiko baguette. (Big bite) (Baguette ASMR going strong) Mmmm~~~!! (dolphin noise) It’s SO good. There’s so much mentaiko stuffed inside. It’s salty but also super savory. The baguette is crispy on the outside, but chewy and slightly pastry-like inside. A true bread lover’s tasting session. *Cough!* So tasty I almost choked from eating too fast! [MINUKEE] By the way, do you know how Fukuoka became famous for mentaiko? [MINUKEE] A Japanese man living in Busan, South Korea, missed the mentaiko he ate there and started selling it in Japan. [MINUKEE] And that’s how it became a Fukuoka specialty. [MINUKEE] Since Korea and Japan are so close, there are a lot of cultural connections like this. With the mentaiko history lesson done, it’s time for some *real* history. This is Sumiyoshi Shrine (住吉神社), boasting over a thousand years of history. Hard to believe such a peaceful place exists in the middle of the city. [MINUKEE] It’s so early in the morning, but there are already a few locals here. [MINUKEE] This shrine has long been dedicated to the god of the sea. [MINUKEE] Fishermen would come here to pray for health and safety. [MINUKEE] I see locals walking in circles here as part of their prayer ritual. [MINUKEE] They say it’s to ward off bad luck and pray for health and peace. [MINUKEE] This looks like the shrine’s entrance… the moss on the gate feels straight out of an anime. After soaking in the anime-like vibes of Sumiyoshi Shrine… [MINUKEE] I’m heading off for a proper breakfast now. [MINUKEE] There’s this traditional market called Yanagibashi Market (柳橋連合市場). [MINUKEE] Inside the market, there’s a restaurant famous for kaisendon. [MINUKEE] They open at 10 a.m., but right now it’s only 8:30. [MINUKEE] Since there’s always a long wait, I’m heading there early to “open run” and get my name on the list. The neat little streets of Fukuoka give my steps a nice rhythm. [MINUKEE] Why is this convenience store so clean… and so cute? [MINUKEE] It’s like someone built it out of LEGO bricks. Arrived at the compact but lively Yanagibashi Market! [MINUKEE] Such a charming little traditional market. Local vibes in every corner of Yanagibashi Market. [MINUKEE] This is the place — Shokudo Mitsu (食堂 光) — where I’ll be having kaisendon. [MINUKEE] It’s still over an hour before opening, but there’s already writing on the waiting list. Boldly wrote: “1 adult / Total: 1 person.” [MINUKEE] I’m number 5 in line. [MINUKEE] They’ve posted a notice telling me to come back at 9:30. [MINUKEE] I’ve got some time to kill, so I’m going to browse a nearby supermarket. Almost walked in through the exit again… lol. And so begins the great Fukuoka supermarket exploration! Wow… there are SO many kinds of salads here. An onigiri set that totally grabs your attention.
(Kashiwa Musubi 3pcs: ¥398 / ~$2.75) Adorably named “That Guy’s Onigiri Set” lol.
(Kare Onigiri Set: ¥344.52 / ~$2.38) [MINUKEE] They have so many well-packed bento boxes.
(Umejako Okowa & Sekihan Bento: ¥463 / ~$3.20) This one looks delicious.
(Gomoku Chirashi: ¥387 / ~$2.67) I thought it had mentaiko inside, but it was tuna.
(Maguro Tataki Naka Maki: ¥430 / ~$2.96) [MINUKEE] I want one, but I’ll hold off so I can fully enjoy the kaisendon. Oh my gosh, this is too cute. It’s dried tofu with Anpanman characters printed on it — adorable. They’re selling Korean Shin Ramyun in a 3-pack bundle!
We don’t even have this cute packaging in Korea.
(Shin Ramyun 3-pack: ¥388 / ~$2.67) Before I knew it, it’s 9:30 — back to Shokudo Mitsu. [MINUKEE] It’s 5 minutes before their 10 a.m. opening… (peeking in) [MINUKEE] But there are already 27 groups on the list… [MINUKEE] What is this place…?? [MINUKEE] And right behind me… A never-ending line of people waiting to get in… wow. This must really be a hotspot. Finally, we’re going in~~~! Heart racing — first kaisendon experience at Shokudo Mitsu! Luckily, they have single seats, so solo dining isn’t awkward. The long-awaited kaisendon has arrived!
(Kaisendon Deluxe Set: ¥1,300 / ~$8.95) Starting with the steamed egg custard from the set. What is this…? It’s softer than pudding. Now, a bite of sashimi over rice. What… is this heavenly taste…? Time to properly devour this kaisendon. My “frown of truth” appears — the ultimate flavor paradise. No breaks — just pure mukbang mode. That was amazing. Looked down and realized I finished in just 3 minutes… lol.
(Total: ¥1,300 / ~$8.95) [MINUKEE] Right in front, there’s a fish shop, and they bring the ingredients straight from there. [MINUKEE] That’s why the sashimi was so fresh, beautifully prepared, and incredibly delicious. [MINUKEE] Totally worth the price. [MINUKEE] If I come back to Fukuoka, I’m pretty sure I’ll come here again. Made a mental reservation the moment I walked out. [MINUKEE] Since I’ve had rice, now I’m craving noodles… (=certified foodie moment) [MINUKEE] And Japan means… ramen, right? (=perfect excuse) [MINUKEE] I’m heading to a place rumored to be opened by the grandson of Ichiran’s founder. (=might not be true) [MINUKEE] They say you can still taste that original Ichiran flavor here. Off to my “second breakfast”! A little slice of Fukuoka’s summer charm. The vending machines popping up in the alleys are adorable. Fukuoka looks perfect in film camera vibes 📸 Reality though? It’s an absolute steam bath… Must-haves for traveling in Japan during summer… 1. Sun umbrella 2. Handkerchief 3. Portable fan Don’t forget these🔥 [MINUKEE] It’s shockingly hot today…^^ [MINUKEE] And I didn’t bring a single one of those… Never underestimate the Japanese summer heat. Pushing through the sweltering heat to the ramen shop! [MINUKEE] Is it… closed? [MINUKEE] Oh wait, it’s over there. Thought it wasn’t open yet…ㅠㅠ ✰Finally at the door✰ But it won’t open… Oh… it’s a sliding door. Hehehe. [Staff] We open at 11 a.m. (Oh no… fail.) [MINUKEE] I foolishly misread the Google Maps opening time. [MINUKEE] There’s still 30 minutes to go. [MINUKEE] But I’m on a day trip🔥 [MINUKEE] So I can’t wait around. [MINUKEE] I heard there’s a place nearby that serves tsukemen — dipping ramen — so I’ll try there. But seriously… why is the line here so long… ^^* [MINUKEE] Nope, not waiting for that. Quick surrender… moving on to my next destination. On a one-day trip, but here I am going on a side trip out of the city. 🙂 It’s not far, but there’s something extra exciting about a train ride. The view outside slowly changes from city to countryside. And now I’ve arrived at my destination. [MINUKEE] I’ve arrived in Dazaifu. [MINUKEE] It’s a quaint little town just 30 minutes by train from Fukuoka.
(Nishitetsu line / Round trip: ¥840 / ~$5.78) [MINUKEE] They say you can really soak up the Japanese vibe here. [MINUKEE] Time to fully enjoy the Japanese atmosphere. Even the station area feels full of charm. [MINUKEE] I heard there’s both a Ghibli store and a Miffy shop here, so let’s check them out. Low ceilings and a cozy, nostalgic street vibe in Dazaifu. First stop — the Miffy shop. The name alone, “Miffy’s Snack Shop” (みっふぃーおやつ堂), is adorable. True to its name, it’s a paradise of snacks. They’ve got tons of cute and unique Miffy merch. Even the plushies are adorable. Too bad the price isn’t as cute.
(¥3,960 / ~$27.25) Somehow the keychains *look* more affordable… maybe it’s just me.
(¥2,090 / ~$14.38) This lunch bag made me want to buy one for my mom.
(¥1,980 / ~$13.62) Now passing the baton to the Ghibli store. As expected from Ghibli — every item feels so detailed and well-made. Lots of beautiful (and pricey) cups and glasses.
(¥6,600 / ~$45.36, ¥5,500 / ~$37.83) This No-Face bag is ridiculously cute… lol.
(¥3,080 / ~$21.16) Plenty of must-have items for both kids and adults. Successfully wrapped up my Ghibli shop tour. [MINUKEE] Now I’m heading for some soba for lunch. Arrived at Namiman (なみ満), a soba hotspot in Dazaifu. It’s in a renovated traditional house — full of old-fashioned charm. The entrance was so quiet I worried it might be closed again… After my string of failed restaurant entries, I was a bit nervous. Thankfully, it’s full inside. The interior is overflowing with Japanese ambience. Only one group ahead of me, so I got in quickly! Ordered the soba and tempura set.
(¥1,870 / ~$12.86) And because tempura without beer feels wrong… a draft beer too.
(¥660 / ~$4.54) Because in Japan… beer is basically required. 🍺💛 That first magical sip that beats the summer heat. ✨ (Pure happiness) (Bliss) Finally, the soba and tempura have arrived! There’s a laminated “how to eat soba” guide on the table — simple but charming. Starting with the shrimp tempura. Absolutely delicious! 🍤 After one bite, I’m seriously considering ordering more. But then I suddenly look concerned. Two dipping sauces… but I can’t tell which is which. lol ➀ Looks like the soba sauce bowl, but there’s barely any broth.
➁ Looks like a soy sauce dish, but it’s filled with a lot of liquid. (My eyes keep darting around as I overthink it.) Well… the soy sauce dish is probably just soy sauce, right? Heh. Time to dig into the soba. Maybe because of the heat, the cold soba tastes even better. But honestly, the tempura feels more like the star of the show. Finished off perfectly with the draft beer. A truly satisfying meal. 🙂
(Total: ¥2,530 / ~$17.39) [MINUKEE] That was delicious. [MINUKEE] The soba didn’t taste too different from what I’ve had in Korea. [MINUKEE] But the tempura? Absolutely amazing. [MINUKEE] And when I was leaving, they gave me this little “lucky coin” type thing. [MINUKEE] Getting something like this just puts you in a good mood. 🤩 [MINUKEE] Oh, I heard this Starbucks here is super famous. [MINUKEE] They say it’s known for being really beautiful. [MINUKEE] To me, it just looked… unusual. Haha. [MINUKEE] Here in Dazaifu, there’s a place called Tenmangu Shrine. [MINUKEE] It’s dedicated to the god of learning, so it’s like a sacred spot for students. [MINUKEE] I think this is it. [MINUKEE] Even from the entrance, it feels so sacred. Welcome to Dazaifu Tenmangu — the shrine of academic success! [MINUKEE] Right at the entrance, there’s a cow statue. [MINUKEE] They say if you touch the cow’s head, you’ll become smarter and succeed in your studies. [MINUKEE] No wonder everyone’s taking photos with it. Time to properly explore Tenmangu. [MINUKEE] The atmosphere is amazing. Loving the small pond vibes 🌲🌿⛲️ [MINUKEE] What’s this place…? [MINUKEE] So fancy. Haha. [MINUKEE] Must have some special meaning, right? Let’s head further inside. [MINUKEE] Whoa, what’s this? [MINUKEE] Look at the roof. [MINUKEE] It’s like there’s a giant forest on top of it! Reminds me of Pokémon. [MINUKEE] I’m guessing these are for making wishes? Found a pond of iris flowers, though most have already wilted. They say irises peak from late May to June. [MINUKEE] Dazaifu Tenmangu is also super famous for its plum blossoms in late winter. [MINUKEE] There are over 6,000 plum trees here. [MINUKEE] And in early spring, the cherry blossoms are gorgeous too. [MINUKEE] Summer is just… hot. Ended my Tenmangu adventure with a cute performance by an old man and his monkey friend. [MINUKEE] In front of Tenmangu, you’ll see stalls selling mochi said to ward off illness and clear the mind. [MINUKEE] They’re called Umegae Mochi 🌺🍡 [MINUKEE] Apparently, all shops sell them at the same price. [MINUKEE] One Umegae Mochi, please. Dazaifu’s signature snack, secured!
(¥150 / ~$1.02) [MINUKEE] It’s nice and warm. Quick bite — chomp! [MINUKEE] I thought it’d be just super chewy, but nope. [MINUKEE] It’s more like a Japanese sweet called monaka. [MINUKEE] The red bean paste inside isn’t overly sweet, so it’s light and easy to eat. Captured some Dazaifu scenery on film camera mode. It’s just a one-day trip, but I visited so many places I had to split this into two parts. 🙂 I’ll be back with another travel vlog so packed, it’ll make your knees ache too. See you in the next video 🫶 Your subscribe & like mean the world to me 😍
