トスカーナエスコートツアー
[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] World famous for its cultural riches and stunning scenery. When you think of Tuscanyany, chances are cities like Florence and Pisa will spring to mind. Both well worth visiting, but sadly these days all too often overcrowded. Maggari Tours is an escorted tour specialist dedicated to spreading the tourism net wider with carefully curated tours that swerve overrun tourist trails. I’ve joined a small group here in Tuskanyany on an aptly named secluded Tuskanyany tour to find out what makes tours different. Stunning though the Tuscan countryside is, this tour is about way more than scenics, every day brings a new excursion and authentic experiences. Naturally, Tuscan food and wine feature strongly as well as some amazing lunches in handpicked restaurants. Visits to local artisans were a key part of the tour and much appreciated by the whole group. It was lovely just to be taken there. No decisions to make. Yeah. And know other people as well. That was lovely to go into these places and not have to fight the crowds. Well, I particularly like the olive oil tasting. The guy who was there, who actually owned the place, he was so enthusiastic. He just sort of lit the place up. Yeah. I think it’s a good variety of places that we’ve been to visit. The cheese farm, the olive oil farm, and of course the wineries. We’re not going to the same old places that thousands of other people go to. [Music] Well, this is probably one of the best examples of an authentic experience. And what does that mean really? It means engaging with locals actually and slowing down, taking time to appreciate the landscapes and the farming communities. Martr, who is eighth generation in the family, served a delicious lunch with wine tastings. Not really wine tastings, just wine with the food, which for me is the best way to experience the local wine. The tour is based in Castell Delpiano, a working town on the slopes of Monte Amiata in southern Tuskanyany. And being based there for a week means the joy of unpacking only once, but also the pleasure of getting to know the hotel team. It’s always nice to return each day to friendly faces. Logistically, the hotel proved an ideal base, minimizing time spent on the road, maximizing time to explore. All in the supremely capable hands of our tour manager, Wendy, who’s lived in the region for over 30 years. Obviously, you know this area inside out. Tell me what about the pace of the tours. How are you how do you manage the pace of it? um really trying to give people as much time as we possibly can with what we’re doing in each day. Yes, we want to immerse people in in the places that we’re visiting because of where we’re based. Um everything is in within an hour and a half or so. Um so we do try and do it that you know everything’s fairly local and using local people and local you know visits to farms and things like that. Yeah. For you as a tour, how do you see your role? What what my role is mama looking mama looking after the family because there are smaller groups and you get to know people better uh bringing people together telling them about the places that we’re visiting as well. Yes. And I had to say doing a fantastic job taking away all the stress. We literally don’t have to think about anything. Sometimes paddling like that under the water but mostly we’re doing okay. It doesn’t show. It doesn’t show. You’re doing a good job. So, aside from the experiences and group camaraderie, where exactly did we go? Let me show you. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Generally, with Wendy’s tips and a map in hand, we were given free time to wander at will in each place. And in Sienna, our local guide was able to give us a tour from a resident’s perspective. [Music] Well, our visit to Sienna could not be better time because they’re just preparing now for the famous patio here in the main square, the Campo. We’ve enjoyed a 2-hour guided tour and now have a couple of hours free to just enjoy and soak it up because it is an amazing city. I expected Sienna to be actually packed out today, but in fact, there’s plenty of space and it’s just wonderful to be in the center of this amazing venue. There’s a lot packed into the itinerary. And even on route back to Pisa airport on our last day, there was time for a final lunch and a wander around Voltera, a fascinating hilltop town with significant structures and remains from medieval, Roman, and Atruscan times. I honestly have not felt we’ve missed out at all by swerving the bigger cities. Far from it, actually. By avoiding the crowds and their inevitable cues, our whole group has felt like we’ve had a much more relaxed, much more enjoyable and authentic Tuscan experience.
