Japan Tokyo 4K Walking Tour 2025
Walking around Minamimachida Current location: Machida, Tokyo Heading to Tsuruma Kumano Shrine Although it is called Tsuruma, its address is Machida. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. We have arrived at Tsuruma Kumano Shrine. I wonder if this area used to be called Tsuruma. Perhaps it’s because of the meandering of the river. There is a sign for the last Yasaka Shrine annual festival. Is it okay for outsiders to take part in such local festivals? The date of its construction is unknown, but it may have been during the Edo period. It’s quite large for a local shrine. Apparently they also have goshuin stamps. Apparently the shrine’s land area was once quite large, but it has since disappeared due to postwar land reforms. There doesn’t seem to be anything else in particular. Small shrines would be good if they sold amulets, fortune slips, and vending machines. There was one in Ueno. Machiyahara Street After crossing the Sakai River, you will arrive in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It looks like the edge of the Sagamihara plateau is right in front of us. Are they building a tunnel under the terrace? Covered in graffiti. Yamato City is famous for its poor security. There’s quite a difference in elevation. The plateau is always flat. I get suspicious when I take pictures of elementary school students. We have arrived at Johoji Temple. Apparently it was originally located on the opposite bank of the Sakai River, but it has been relocated. It’s better to be on higher ground because it’s prone to flooding. Memorial service for parishioners who died in the Greater East Asia War These old stones are piled up. I guess they date back to the Edo period. It’s a beautiful edge of the plateau. I wonder if it would have collapsed if it had been built with technology from the Edo period. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Your subscription will help me to take on the next journey.
