Shima Kanko Hotel The Bay Suites【100㎡ Suite room/Lounge/Super Luxury Dinner・Breakfast/Ise-Jingu】
Hello! We stayed Shima Kanko Hotel at Ise-Shima Mie, Japan. It opened in 1951, and was the venue for the 2016 Ise-Shima Summit. This hotel has received high reviews and is very satisfying.
We repeated staying several times. Currently, it consists of 3 buildings: “The Classic”, “The Bay Suites” and “The Club”. This time we stayed in The Bay suite which was built in 2008 and has all rooms as suites. Modern interior was designed by world famous Hirsch Bedner Associates It is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Spacious and bright lobby area There are few people so we can relax. There are garden and pool outside. We checked in at the lobby and had welcome drink. We arrived early but were shown to our room without waiting. We booked “Omakase” the room selection plan. then we got Superior Suite King room on the 3rd floor. Even the standard rooms are 100m² large at this hotel. Spacious entrance. We should took off the shoes here. Minibar left side The bathroom is in front Living room is right Bedroom here Bed is Sealy’s. It is extremely comfortable. The wall on the right is a large closet. Living room is spacious too High-quality, calming interior with plenty of light and brightness It’s a comfortable place. Balcony over there The glass door on the left is the toilet. Double sink vanity Bathroom is at the back It’s washlet, of course Nice view of hotel site and Ago Bay from bathroom Let’s look at bathroom amenities Dryer and showerhead are Refa MIKIMOTO Cosmetics shampoo etc Several sets of towel Bathrobe Skincare for men’s – GACHI from POLA Cases are pretty MIKIMOTO Cosmeties skincare set in the box It’s travel size set Let’s look at minibar- all inclusive. UCC coffee machine Cookies 2 kinds of Ise Tea and original herb tea Kettle and mineral water Drinks are all inclusive in the refrigerator Juices, Ise tea, Beer, 2 kinds of wine Large closet In-house clothing that can be worn in the public bath Iron and table Indoor wear in the closet. It has a hood. pajamas Lastly, let’s go to balcony It’s soothing You can see 180 degrees. 1F Lobby, we checked in There is a shop on the far left There are hotel original goods and MIKIMOTO pearl etc. There is a large public bath with sauna on 1F It’s not hot spring, but we felt it’s very nice. There are MIKIMOTO cosmetics amenities,
Refa showerhead and dryer here too. We can use massage chairs We can also use the hot springs at the group ryokan “Kashikojima Hoshoen” (5 minutes by car) for free. There are “eau SPA” on 2F. Japanese restaurant on 4F Open for breakfast, dinner.
(Lunch for reservation only) French restaurant on 5F I will introduce dinner and breakfast later Go further in, there is lounge exclusively for guests. Drinks and snacks are available from 7:00 to 22:00 with stunning view of Ago Bay Variety of snacks are not so many But sweets like cakes and cookies are good quality and delicious. Menu changes depends on the timing. Many kinds of alcohol Next to the lounge, there is Sunset Garden Good place to see sunset at Ago Bay.
It is chosen one of best 100 sunset view of Japan. During the Ise-Shima Summit, a group photograph of the world leaders was taken here. Sun is going to set, colors is changing beautifully This is photo spot We’d like to see more, but also like to see sunset from our room Let’s go back to the room now Beautiful! where pearl rafts float on the ria coastline View from bathroom is also beautiful Let’s go to dinner French restaurant by Ise-shima summit dinner chef Ms Hiroe Higuchi serving dishes made with the most luxurious Ise ingredients It is very popular (Michelin 1 star, Google 4.8) so reservation should be made earlier Among several courses and a la carte menu, “Tradition” course packed with traditional hotel dishes (JPY45,000 per person) should be difinitely tried once Marinated and grilled mackerel Broccoli mousse is placed underneath. Very fresh! A gratin made by wrapping sea urchin in spinach and baking it with a creamy sauce. cavier on the top. It’s luxury! 3 kinds of bread. You can have as much as you like. I liked espceially Green laver roll bread Calpis butter and seaweed butter Already a main dish, the large abalone in a sauce of burnt butter Big and soft abalone maches the sauce this is top notch abalone dish in the world Vegetable dip is served as a palate cleanser. Sauce is abalone! It’s small but delicious. Very intense creamy soup Former Prime Minister Abe decided to hold the summit here, wanting all the world’s leaders to try it. This one dish alone is packed with luxurious Ise ingredients They are big and appealing A rose and carbonated jelly as palate clenser Finally real main dish Fish is also available, but we chose famous MATSUSAKA beef. Amazingly soft and juicy Citrus dessert with a variety of textures Cheese is available instead of sweets Tea of fresh herb grown in the hotel garden. Sweets are also good It iis really luxurious and delicous course. Let’s walk around the hotel after dinner Savory snacks come at night Sweets are mostly same as daytime More kinds of alcohol appear Starry sky is beautiful outside.
Can you see Orion? Good night Good morning It’s 6AM. We visited “Soul of Japan”, Ise-Jingu Shrine We should visit Geku first. It is 40 minutes by car from the hotel. There are already some people in this early morning since it is New Year. Okage-yokocho next. It is tradigional Japanese style street. There are many shops and eateries.
After walking through, we reach Naiku Uji Bridge: A bridge connecting the everyday world to the sacred There was frost. Morning fresh atmosphere is soothing The crystal clear flow of the Isuzu River.
Place to purify before praying. After visiting Naiku, we waited in front of Uji Bridge for the sunrise. For 1month around the winter solstice (late Nov to late Jan), sun rises from the large torii gate of Uji Bridge. Many people are waiting After 7:30AM, sun rises The sky became bright, it’s beautiful moment It was crowded, but people give away each other, so we could see pretty good spot after waiting sometime. It opens 5AM and already crowded. We are going back for hotel breakfast We had breakfast at La mer.
Jaapnese breakfast is also available at 4F HAMAYU. Other options are Western Buffet or Japanese set at The Classic. We booked room only, but we could have breakfast without reservation anywhere. Nice view in the morning We chose ” La mer Breakfast” (JPY4,200 per person) Breakfast with lovely view! The thick persimmon smoothie was delicious.
Other choices were homemade vegetable juices and champagne. Fruits are all very fresh We could choose egg dishes from 3 kinds. This is most popular dish. A gratin made with spinach, abalone, spiny lobster, sea urchin, and poached eggs. Luxury breakfast dish, only we could have here It was great, delicious breakfast with nice view. Let’s look at lounge in the morning Checkout time is noon. After that guests can still use lounge. Famous local brand Yamamura-Nyugyo Milk and cereals are appeared in the morning Guests of The Bay Suites can go to “The Classic” “The Club” and guest lounge there. Let’s take a look. “The Classic” was designed by Murano Togo, a famous Showa-era architect, and was completed in 1969. Lobby – Retro Showa-era atomosphere Ise-Shima Summit working lunch was served here. Ago Bay view from the window There are many paintings in the hotel. The highlight is this masterpiece in the restaurant. Léonard Foujita’s “Noasobi” Go up to 2F, there is MIKIMOTO shop (famous pearl brand) Lounge is for hotel guests only. Room card key is needed. If you’d like to come after checkout, staff gives you a keycard. Variety of snacks are almost same as The Bay Suites Lounge. Lamps, long counter and view are nice there is a terrace with nice Ago Bay view Next to lounge, there is Fitness Gym The Bay Suites does not have Gym, guests can use here. Go further, then reach to The Club The Club features exhibition space, teahouse and restaurants. It’s even more retro mood than The Classic. We had lunch and sweets at Lian previously It’s casual but meals and sweets are very good Lovely space and view I’d like to try Afternoon Tea next. Hope you enjoyed!
