Portofino is grouped around its small natural harbour surrounded by hills covered by olive groves and small vineyards. Multicolored houses facing the harbour are arranged in a semi-circle around the famous Piazzetta. Set on the water around the small natural harbour, the Little Square is an iconic place of the Italian Riviera. Being the main square of the town, Piazzetta di Portofino is always full of people. The panoramic footpath starting from the picturesque square takes you to the Church of Saint Giorgio. Following the path, you have wonderful views of Portofino from above.

The church of San Giorgio (Chiesa di San Giorgio), rebuilt in Romanesque style after the last war is set on the top of a rock. The original church was built in 1154, in honor of Saint Giorgio, the patron saint of Portofino. The Church of Saint Giorgio preserves the remains of Saint Giorgio, brought by the sailors of the crusades. From the church, the path brings you to Castello Brown, an ancient fortress strategically located above the harbour to overlook the Gulf of Portofino. The Genoese coastal fort was called Castello di San Giorgio and used for military defense since Roman times. Continuing the path, you reach Portofino’s Lighthouse where you encounter a spectacular view.

Surrounded by lush hills and crystal clear waters, with colorful houses lining the harbor, Portofino is a playground for the rich and famous. George Clooney, Beyoncé, and Leonardo DiCaprio are just a few of the celebrities who have been spotted in Portofino.

There are many hiking trails to choose from in the surrounding hills, which offer visitors stunning views of the coastline. Portofino is a must-see destination for anyone looking for an unforgettable vacation.
