【Vlog】#3 南ドイツ8日間団体ツアーの旅 2025年初夏 ~ホーエンツォレルン城、エスリンゲン~ 4日目

Day 4 of the 8-Day South Germany Tour We explore a fairytale castle above the clouds
and take in its breathtaking views. Then, we stroll through a medieval town
full of canals and old-world charm. It’s the morning of Day 4.
A three-hour drive from Rothenburg. Hohenzollern Castle appears,
towering high on the mountain. Before climbing up,
we have lunch at a restaurant at the base. The food was delicious,
and the atmosphere was wonderful. We switch to a minibus
and ride up the steep slope to the castle. Unlike the ruins of Heidelberg Castle,
these buildings are beautifully preserved. Hohenzollern Castle is known
as one of Germany’s three great castles. It stands on the birthplace of the
Prussian royal family, the House of Hohenzollern. Perched on a mountain,
it is often called the “Castle in the Sky.” Today, as you can see, it’s a clear sunny day!
We could see the town below the castle. This is the third version of the castle,
completed in 1867. The first was built around 1200 AD
but destroyed in 1423 during a war. The second fell into ruin
after its owners left in 1798. Stepping inside feels like entering
a splendid world where medieval and modern meet. We can see rooms that show the
luxurious private life of the royal family. Each room is filled with warm furniture
and beautiful portraits. The charm lies not only in its grandeur
but also in its calm and cozy atmosphere. The underground armory
and the realistic prison cells are open to visitors. We also visited the treasure room… But sadly, photography was not allowed,
so I can’t show it here. Crowns, tiaras used by queens,
diamond brooches and necklaces… They reveal the richness
of the court culture of that era. Two chapels stand outside the castle grounds. From here, you can overlook
the hills and villages of the Swabian region. In autumn, the hills are colored with red leaves.
In winter, the landscape turns white with snow. Each season offers
a completely different view. They say the castle in morning mist or sunset glow
looks truly magical. I hope I can visit again someday. It is a beautiful German castle,
combining military strength, royal dignity,
and romantic charm. Reluctantly, we leave Hohenzollern Castle behind… We take the bus for about an hour
to our next destination: Esslingen. Esslingen is a beautiful medieval town
along the Neckar River,
just 15 minutes by train from Stuttgart. With a 1,200-year history and spared from war,
its medieval streets remain intact. The Market Square is the heart of the old town.
It comes alive with wine festivals in summer
and Christmas markets in winter. This is St. Dionysius Church,
a 13th-century Gothic church
with twin towers and stained glass windows. Along the Neckar River and its canals
stand half-timbered houses
built from the 14th to 16th centuries. This felt like the best photo spot—
half-timbered houses, the church,
and Esslingen Castle in the distance. The houses between the rivers
perfectly capture a medieval German townscape. In medieval Germany,
half-timbered houses, cobblestones,
and churches always go together. Inside St. Dionysius Church, it felt so cool—
almost like air-conditioning
compared to the heat outside. The high ceilings and pointed arches
create a solemn, peaceful atmosphere. Stained glass from the 13th to 16th centuries
still decorates the church. Light through the large window behind the altar
paints the church in magical colors. The grand main altar, with its detailed sculptures
of Christ and the saints,
reflects medieval craftsmanship. Next, we head to Esslingen Castle. We found the entrance to the roofed corridor
that runs along the castle wall. We start climbing the stairs…
it’s quite steep! We couldn’t reach the top
because of time constraints. But we enjoyed a beautiful view of Esslingen
from the vineyards above. I believe this view has hardly changed
since medieval times. The stairs are tough,
but I recommend climbing them if you visit. That concludes our sightseeing
for Day 4 of the tour. We had dinner at a restaurant in Stuttgart. Afterward, we shopped for souvenirs
at a supermarket near the airport hotel. Day 5 will take us
to Nördlingen, Augsburg, and Munich. If you enjoyed this video,
