長野県・信濃大町の絶景 3月
Shinano-Omachi: One of Japan’s Premier Mountain Regions. Blessed with crystal-clear water and offering breathtaking views of the Northern Alps, this area showcases the beauty of all four seasons. In this episode, our filming crew will explore stunning scenic spots within walking distance from Shinano-Omachi Station. The camera follows them, capturing the town’s unique landscapes and atmosphere. As we leave the station, our first destination is the Omachi Alpine Museum. The waterways here are remarkably clear. While we will introduce several scenic spots today, it’s no exaggeration to say that the entire town of Omachi is a breathtaking sight. Crossing the Nogu River, the incline begins. To the left is the Tourist Road, and straight ahead lies the Alpine Museum. We’ll explore the Tourist Road later! As we ascend, patches of snow remain. Near the museum, the snow cover becomes even deeper. After a 25-minute walk from Shinano-Omachi Station, we have arrived at the Omachi Alpine Museum Lower Observatory! Thanks to the clear, cloudless sky, we have a perfect view of the mountain range from Mt. Goryu to Mt. Renge. This observatory is located just below Omachi Park, which we previously featured in our spring special. It’s not far from Shinano-Omachi Station, and after a short but steep climb, a stunning reward awaits. Be sure to visit! Let’s head toward our next destination, the Mikkamachi-kita traffic light! The water flowing from the mountains here is incredibly pure. Although not widely known among travelers, this Omachi Tourist Road offers breathtaking panoramic views. Be sure to walk through it and experience its charm firsthand! It’s now 11:15 AM. Since we have the opportunity, let’s capture footage of the Azusa Limited Express, which runs along the base of the Northern Alps! As we reach the middle of the Tourist Road, the towering Mt. Jiigatake comes into view directly ahead. This road is also a fantastic spot during cherry blossom season. Walking with the Northern Alps in view is a truly priceless experience. After about 40 minutes from the Alpine Museum, we’ve arrived at the Mikkamachi-kita intersection. With no buildings obstructing the view, the vast expanse of the Northern Alps unfolds before us. ※You can enjoy stunning seasonal landscapes at this spot. However, when shooting from the farm road, please be careful not to obstruct the passage of agricultural vehicles. In early March, the landscape is covered in lingering snow, but as the seasons change, the rice fields fill with water, reflecting the mountains to create a mesmerizing scene. The reflection of the mountains in the water from spring to early summer is particularly breathtaking. A spectacular photo opportunity that showcases different expressions throughout the year. Now, let’s make our way back to Shinano-Omachi Station, >passing through several interesting spots along the way. passing through several interesting spots along the way. First, we’ll walk through Omachi Meitengai Arcade. Lined with eateries, bakeries, flower shops, and other unique establishments, this street is packed with character. Omachi also has a fascinating water-related folktale, introduced by the Omachi Water Story Society. It is a fictional story called the Legend of Otokomizu (Men’s Water) and Onnamizu (Women’s Water). “Long ago, the eastern and western halves of this town used different water sources. The eastern side drew water from the Iyari Pond in Higashiyama, while the western side used water from the Shirasawa spring in the Northern Alps. Over time, people noticed a strange phenomenon—on the eastern side, only girls were being born, while the western side saw only boys. Eventually, people began calling the eastern water ‘Onnamizu (Women’s Water)’ and the western water ‘Otokomizu (Men’s Water).’> Troubled by this imbalance, the townspeople decided to build a river through the center of the town, merging the two waters. From then on, the water became even more delicious, and the town flourished with happy families on both sides. And so, the story ends on a joyful note.” Even today, several public water drinking spots can be found around town, allowing visitors to experience the famous Otokomizu and Onnamizu. Next, we’ll explore a location closely connected to the Oito Line and the historic Salt Road. Omachi flourished as a post town, and one of its key sites is the former Hirabayashi family residence, a historic salt trading house now preserved as the Chojiya Museum. This rare and valuable building offers a glimpse into the past, connecting people, places, and history—just as the Salt Road once linked the sea to the inland regions. What did you think of today’s journey? We introduced two stunning scenic spots within walking distance from Shinano-Omachi Station. If you have extra time, we highly recommend visiting Kannon Bridge, located about 2 km toward the Takase River area. From there, you’ll witness breathtaking views of Mt. Jiigatake and Mt. Kashimayari covered in snow! Shinano-Omachi is one of the key stations on the Oito Line. To the west, the towering Mt. Kashimayari and Mt. Jiigatake rise above, standing at over 3,000 meters.> At their foothills, the Nishina Three Lakes gracefully hold their pristine waters, offering ever-changing seasonal landscapes. With its rich nature and stunning scenery, this town is truly a hidden gem worth visiting. We hope you’ll come and experience its beauty for yourself!
