Going back and forth between Tokyo and Kanagawa Current location: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture Walking down the Koenjizaka slope in Unomori, Sagamihara Let’s visit one more shrine in Kanagawa before heading back to Tokyo. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. Is the old river channel being used as a floodplain? It seems that there was a water intake for the rice fields here, called Taniguchi Weir. A dilapidated stone monument. Built in 1951, it’s relatively new. The stone material was chosen incorrectly. This small torii gate is the original shrine of Kashima Shrine. It was originally located here before the shrine we are about to visit was relocated. It feels like all the local stone monuments are gathered here. On the opposite bank is the Toei Morino Housing, which is set to be reborn through redevelopment. Although it’s old, it’s only a few minutes’ walk from Machida Station and the rent is around 50,000 yen. It’s a bargain. This also seems to be an old river route. Is this a floodplain too? There are so many. I wonder if it’s for the defense of Machida Station. I guess this is a special graveyard for the landowners in this area. The family names on the gravestones are almost the same. The area in which the building stands was commonly known as “Tanbo” until around the early 2000s. It was what they call a secret brothel. The police station between the buildings is a remnant of that. It is no longer meaningful. Well, there are probably still a lot of gangsters around there, so I guess it’s okay. At that time, you could see the small restaurants and cafes in this area with their pink lights even from inside the Odakyu Line train. Hotel La Porte Senjyukaku and Machida Bowling Center were located here. Eventually they will build a high-rise apartment building there, but it will take time so it is temporarily being used as a parking lot. You can see the terrace cliffs on your right. We have arrived at Taniguchi Kashima Shrine. It was built about 400 years ago and moved to its current location about 200 years ago. The address is Minami-ku, Sagamihara City. This sign is too long. You should summarize it more. This shrine and the adjacent temple are where local farmers gathered in 1884 and launched the Freedom and People’s Rights Movement. As the Musashino-Sagami Kominto, they caused riots in the area. Apparently, people like that are annoying, which is one of the reasons why Machida was transferred from Kanagawa to Tokyo. They did it on Bura Tamori. Green ropes are rare There is the name of the landlord This is the neighboring Seiryuji Temple, also of the Nichiren sect. A small part of the shrine approach remains That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Your subscription will help me to take on the next journey. Likes will also help support me.
