「亘理城下町散策01」陸前浜街道亘理宿 磐城国亘理郡 宮城県亘理町
Kanmachi
Watari Town, Miyagi Prefecture Rikumaehama-kaido, Iwaki-no-kuni, Igu-gun,
Watari-inn strolling We are now strolling through Kan-machi, the southern entrance to the castle town. Watari-cho is a town facing the sea in southern Miyagi Prefecture.
With its mild climate, the town is known for its fruit and flower cultivation, especially strawberries. They seem to be putting a lot of effort into garland chrysanthemum, and have garland chrysanthemum soft serve and the “Garland chrysanthemum tiramisu” that was unveiled at the “Date-Nawatari Marugoto Fair,” the event that prompted my visit this time. It is located on the south bank of the Abukuma River on the Rikuzenhama Kaido Road, and the name “Watari” comes from the name of the place where one crosses the river. As a city facing the sea, it is famous for its asari-meshi (spring), shako-meshi (summer), harako-meshi (autumn), hokki-meshi (winter)
Harako-meshi (harako rice in spring), harako-meshi (harako rice in fall), and hokki-meshi (hokki rice in winter) are local dishes according to the season, and harako-meshi is especially well known throughout Japan. It was a castle town of the Watari Date clan, but the town was developed by Date Narumi, who returned after leaving the Sendai clan.
The final amount of land was doubled from the time when the town was under the control of the Date family. The streets continue from the south to Kan-machi, Naka-cyou Istuka-machi, and Ni-imachi, with the Saito family in Goka-machi, the Kimura family in Kamimachi, and the Suzuki family in Araimachi apparently serving as censors. In Nii-machi, the Watari Date clan’s castle rice warehouse was located, and merchant houses such as Watariya, Suzukiya, and Ishigakiya (sake brewers), Mushaya (salt wholesaler), and Yamagataya (malt manufacturer) lined the streets, which were busy with the Rokusai Market. Although it does not exist today, Takeda Genzaemon of Watari started brewing sake as a town liquor store in 1604, a few years before the production of Sendai Castle Imperial Sake, and this was the beginning of Miyagi’s sake brewing industry. Nagata Brewery was founded in 1676 under the trade name “Old Pine”. Enter Nakacyou from kan-machi. Yamadaya, a miso brewer.
He used to be a safflower merchant, but when the Watari Date family and their vassals decided to move to Date City, Hokkaido, he purchased this land and established the business. You are now on Sazanka Street.
A left turn leads to Watari Shrine, the site of the Watari Yougai Yashiki. The store is covered with enamel signs.
The stop sign style sign also has a nice font. I stopped by on my way home and found that the building was built in 1863. (Reconstructed 2016) Enter Ituka-machi from Naka-cyou. It is an elaborate design. Enter Nii-machi from Itsuka-machi. We would like to conclude the first part of the tour in Kokorahene.
The rest of the walk, Watari Shrine (the site of Watari Yougai Yashiki), and Daioji Temple (the site of Kozutsumi Castle), the former base of the Watari Date family, will be posted at a later date. We hope you enjoyed it. See you later ( ^_^)/~~~~
