Welcome back to the Life’s a Worldwind channel. Hope you saw part one of today, July 4th, 2025. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] We are getting back to the run today. We’re really on our way. [Music] soon explode. Got the good old party mode. Okay. Soon we’re on our way. Yeah. Honey, there’s a sky lounge. All right. So, going to head down this long hallway here and um go in the scary elevator. Oh my gosh, the temperature difference is amazing. Wow. We’re in a rock, walking through a big rock. Follow me on Instagram. You’re going to see uh more photos. [Music] I feel like we’re in a air conditioned queue at Disney World. Okay. And this answers your question cuz we know you were thinking it. No one was injured during the entire year and a half of excavation, installation, and general construction of this unique access to the chimney. The elevator. Um less than 2 minutes. It’s back down. and more restrooms. When you get to the top, you exit the elevator through the gift shop. And this is the sky lounge. Wow. I’m going to go outside where you can see better. We found where we can get the ice cream. That line right there. Everybody kept getting off the elevator like with ice cream. It’s like, “Okay, I’m already in the mood for ice cream.” Ew. Wet paint. Dude, this is Oh, this isn’t far at all. Like, we’re right here. It almost feels like cheating. We’ll have enough walking, honey. Don’t worry about that. You hear the flag flapping? We need to get a picture right here. It’s a 4th of July with that flag in the background. Huh. [Music] So, I noticed today that as I was uh getting in the car, um I’m wearing a uh River City uh shirt from when we traveled to South Carolina and we’ve got and we ate at the one in Murals Inlet. And I said, “Cool shirt, fun shirt. I’m going to grab that.” Coming out to the car. Notice the back of my wife’s shirt. And it happens to be a shirt that she got on that same trip that also says Merles Inlet on the back. Well, the reason I got it or put this on was because it says Huntington State Park, but it says State Park and we’re at a state park. But it is ironic that we both put on shirts and didn’t realize it like from the same trip. That’s what we said when we came up. You are in charge of counting the steps. You’re the math guy. I’ll I’ll squirrel and forget how many steps I’m on. 40. Oh, you’re going to guess at 40. All right. He’s guessing at 40. He’s probably done some type of mathematical I’m It’s either 40 or 52. I’m not sure. He says 40 or 52. So, we’ll we’ll go to this in just a bit. A big group went down there. [Music] Oh my gosh. This reminds me, guys. Do you know that the only other time I’ve been here, I was on crutches. I kid you not. Now, granted, I was in my early 20s. Um, so I was, you know, I was fit. I was able, but I had a fractured hip and Yep. came here on crutches. Okay. I’m going to be honest. I did not look down when I was on those steps. Like I was not looking over the railing at all. Tom and I are not fans of uh heights. So why wouldn’t we come to Chimney Rock? 43. 43. I did not look over the railing once. Oh no. I will kind of come over here. 43 steps. Not bad. Oh lord. Okay, I’m going to look over. Okay, we’re probably going to go down there in a little bit, which also means we have to come up. Sky lounge elevator the if you get lucky enough parking spot down here. I’m trying to be very easy here. It would be so easy to fall. Oh wow. Gosh. Wonder like how many miles that is to as far as we can see. So, I’m going to be doing a little montage of all these close-ups Tom’s able to get with the big camera. Also stay through the outro music. We’ll show more photos then. Oh my gosh, this is wonderful. The breeze feels amazing. [Music] This guy is an idiot. Idiot. Idiot. Idiot. Asking for injury or death. Oh my gosh, I just realized this. Huh? I didn’t know this was here. These people right here, they got a great spot. Oh, Tom hasn’t moved from that rock. And looks like the highest spot this family is on. So, I can’t get on that yet. You know what? I don’t need to go to the edge, but I will go up there. Okay, I can officially say that I rock climbed. Does this count? 2,280 ft. Um, Builtmore House up on the hill is only 2100 square ft if I remember correctly. Oh boy. And we’ll hold here. It’s like another little spot down. Now, that’s a cool spot to take pictures to look back up. up at Chimney Rock, like how all those iconic photos and and postcards would be looking up from there. Happy 4th of July, everyone. So, other than being generally completely terrified, this is really cool. And this is our view. We’re sitting now on very interesting little um holes in this rock. Look at all those holes. That’s from when this was at the bottom of the roots of that tree. Wow. The fact that there is a tree, right? All right. I don’t know. We’re headed Tom’s like, “Is this the trail heading down all the way down?” I’m like, “We’ll find out.” So, I come down these I’m like, “Ah, it’s not bad.” And then I look at how far it goes and know like, “Oh Lord, we got to come back up this.” Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh my gosh. There are steps way down there. more trees. Okay, this is my worried thought process. These little trees are going to grow and their roots are going to get big. So, is that going to mess up like the stability of the rock? These are the things I think about. So, we’re not going down anymore. Um Tom’s not comfortable going down any further. So, we might You’re welcome to head. No, might. Let’s go up these short ones and see how far this goes up. Well, these are mighty neat. Rock steps. Got some metal stakes in the rock. Nope. What? Ah, footprint. Nope. You’re not going any further. Nope. Not those steps. Oh, nope. No. I wouldn’t go on those. This is called the opera box. Watch your heads. Almost hit my head. I forgot about it. Oh, that’s a good picture right there. I’m trying to make the car without whacking my head. So, I grabbed the large camera from Tom to zoom in and get some still photos. Um, this one is actually of the original. And like I said earlier, watch through the outro music for more steel photos and footage. [Music] Time to head back down. This is the first flowers I have seen. Two little golden flowers. And notice the butterfly on the flower. Okay, I got the uh piece of wood stuck on the the iron rod there. Come up here. and then the Hickory Nut Falls Trail and that gets you to the lower end of that parking lot. I guess there’s a little cut off coming up there, but um the Four Seasons trail is oh, hour to an hour and a half. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know if we want to walk that. For those who don’t believe in shortcuts, be careful on these steps because they’re so like narrow and some stick out and they’re uneven. So if you come here, just be mindful. Okay. The lake lure lookout can actually get in here now. Earlier there was big huge family. Wow. was crazy to think of what that flood did. This is actually very wonderful. Feels amazing. Look at these tiny little like shopping baskets. That’s so cute. One of those. Asheville Tea Company. And if you wanted coffee, 275, hot tea 275, and hot chocolate 275. Less of a line now. Single four, double 550, waffle cone at $1.50. Mint chip. And uh I’m going to have to go Oreo. I’m not sure I can do that. Um, strawberry. Looks good. Mom got Oreo and then chocolate chip mint on the bottom. I got chocolate chip mint on the bottom and banana pudding. Ice cream is so good. So, it’s 5:20 and it’s 85°, but it does not feel like it. Oh, it is perfectly comfortable. Yeah, we were just talking about how like we just thought we were going to be so hot and miserable and not hot and miserable, hot and sweaty. That’s what we said. But there’s been a breeze. We’re out of the sun. Like, it’s felt really good. I got to get a sticker for our the sticker travel suitcase. And there’s so many that I like. It’s so hard to choose. Very, very hard to choose. Oh, wait. They have smaller ones. H. [Music] Oh, I like this. They have their own coffee. Organic ground coffee mountain roast from Dynamite Roasting Company. That’s a stellar looking bag, but it’s $90. Oh, what is this? A bandana for $15.99. I’m totally getting this pencil. Pencil recycled newspaper with newspaper print. That’s cool. Well, this is ironic. Where did I point that out to you? St. Louis Arch National Park. Same t-shirts there. Nobody in line to the elevator. So, nobody would be coming up at this point. I don’t think it’s 5:40. I think they close at 7, but the last park reservation was 4:00, I think. So, the elevator goes up um 26 stories and it goes 500 ft per minute. Did you see this? This is terrifying. So, this is the opera box, and they’re sitting on the edge of it. There’s no railing, nothing. They’re just sitting on the edge. Holy. And she’s wearing heels. Do you know how easy that would have been to fall? That is absolutely nuts. So 1902, the brothers paid $5,000 to purchase the 64 acre track that included Chimney Rock, Hickory Nut Falls, and the surrounding cliffs. Huh? There was a dining pavilion. This was an inn. Interesting. Huh. Now I’m in the gift shop at the bottom of the elevator. I’m the only one in here because it’s at the end of the day where earlier there were this was very very crowded. Oh wow. $27.99. [Music] $80 for the plates. Oh my. Oh man, this is so cool. But it’s $38. Oh, I love it. I didn’t realize they were like she let me out so she’d already locked the doors. What time is it? Is it like 6:00? Maybe they close at 6:00. Oh, maybe cuz somebody came in while I was in there and then they left. What did I get? A penny one just for North Carolina. So, all the North Carolina press pennies will go in there. And it was only6 something. $659 or $6.99 something like that. So, and it comes with a K patterus penny. All right. So, potty break and then actually let’s just go get the shuttle and go to the bathroom down there. Yeah. I don’t know if it’s an exact right spot, but I guess maybe so the in it looked a little over here though. I think must have been the hotel or the inn might have been over there or it might have been in this location that original one. All right, so it is 6:00. We’re going to make our way down. All right, and we’re going to wait for the shuttle right here for our camp bus actually. Yeah, all that looks like New Rock. So, open that. I’ve already put the penny in there, but I put it in the second spot cuz I’m going to go in order. Um, a couple weeks ago, I took Blair to the nature center and I’ll put that penny there. All right. And here comes our camp bus. We’re not in the camp bus this time. We’re actually in a in a shuttle van. That’ll work. Cushiony seats. The driver’s having issues with the door. Not any duct tape. Yes. If we had any duct tape. Nothing. You know, we could maggyver it. Darn. I missed them taking the flag down. I just happened to look back up and the flag is down. We missed the flag ceremony. I don’t know when they took it down, but sometime I guess when we were boarded in the bus, they took it down. Darn. Oh my god, the doors just open. Doors are open. He goes, “Nobody jump out.” Yeah, don’t worry, dude. Nobody’s moving. Wow. Oh my gosh. We’re cracking up because we’re going downhill a lot faster than we went up. And it’s been a pretty bumpy ride. Like really bumpy bumpy ride. I got to stop leaning up against the side cuz that’s what hurt a second ago when I went ow ow. All righty. Not too many cars left in the parking lot. They got quite a little fleet of uh transportation shuttles, right? Yeah. This part right here is new. So, this part all washed out. Oh, that’s scary. And all of this is new. Whoa. We’re getting ready to go over the entrance bridge again and I’m going to show you the opposite side of the river this time. Wow, look at all that that gave away. Look at that. Wow. All right, I just noticed something. I’m going to zoom in. There used to be a house. All you can see is the platform of the house and the chimney. Wow. Yeah, that’s You see the brick, Tom? That’s the original. Yeah. What? Where’s the rest of the bridge? Jeez. Yeah. All right. Stop at the stage couch. You see, Tom, all that’s left is that chimney. Oh jeez. Oh, there’s the offic. [Music] I smell food. Oh, there’s another chimney right there. Another house with just the chimney. [Music] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat up here. All right, we are back. That’s the bridge we had crossed over. Remember earlier in the day we were talking about the dock kind of leaning there on the bank? Well, we’re going to eat some dinner at the lakehouse bar and grill downstairs. Huh? Downstairs. Uh this way. Okay. Oh, please wait to be seated. I see a tire over there. Two tires. So, the servers here are in the spirit. They’re all in matching blue, white, and red striped and tie-dye shirts. So, the men’s bathroom had some historic pictures of Chimney Rock parking lot at base of Chimney Rock. And that looks Is that the end? Yeah, that was the inn I was talking about. So, actually, it was up and it’s just Yeah, I’m a little confused with that. Wow. You know what that where that is? I know where that is now. That looks that’s the um you’d go down the steps and that would be the other lookout point where you’d look up where you said, “No, I don’t want to go down there.” And it’s like that’s the place everybody takes the picture and looks up at. It’s like the postcard picture. So that’s where it was. Okay, cool. And then this would be where the gift shop and stuff is and the elevator cuz this is the ele Can you get that? Interesting. Housem made chicken salad with sauteed green beans and Tom got fish and chips. No surprise there. I did ask Oh, they have cornhole down there. I did ask the um cashier if they had any damage from the flood, which it didn’t look like it, and she said no, thank goodness. I guess cuz they’re basically at the end, but they’re close because Wow. Yeah. Wow. and all the tires that I can see sitting over here. So, part of Lake Lure, they have drained, like I said, even more. And they’re actually finding things that have been there forever. They found a 19 of an old automobile from the 1920s at the bottom of the lake and then a old um boat and I can’t remember how old that was. And the name of the boat was still on the side. person like no certain. So they actually have seating underneath. Oh, full bellies. We both really enjoyed our meals here. So guys, if you’re in the area, please visit. Don’t you bail now when all is said cuz today’s the day that all our friends will join. [Music] [Applause]
Looking for something to do near the Asheville area? The Lake Lure & Chimney Rock area in western North Carolina was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. We can see some of the aftermath while traveling to Chimney Rock State Park, which opened back up on July 1st. We ride in the historic Otis Elevator to the top, admire the long-range views and have some yummy ice-cream. After our visit we stop for dinner at the Lake House Bar & Grill in Lake Lure. We hope all of you had a nice and safe 4th of July.

Such a beautiful park. I probably went there when I was younger but I don't remember. That's funny you both choose to wear MI tshirts 😜🤣
