Walk around Komaba Park and the former Maeda family residence Current location: Setagaya, Tokyo I left Higashi-Kitazawa Station and arrived at Komaba Park, next to the University of Tokyo. This entire area, including the University of Tokyo campus, was the territory of the Maeda clan of Kaga domain. Please subscribe to our channel. We need your help to keep this channel running. The former Maeda family home still remains, so we’ll go see it. The Western-style building is now in sight. It seems that what remains today are both the Western-style building and the Japanese-style building. It was built in 1929, so it’s about 100 years old. It is a mansion of the wealthy, filled with the utmost luxury. It is the culmination of the exploitation of the poor that has continued since the Edo period. The Great Kanto Earthquake occurred in 1923. This building was built in 1929, so it was unaffected by the earthquake. It also seems to have survived air raids. After the war, it was requisitioned by GHQ and used as a residence for a high-ranking US military official. It later became government property and was turned into a park. At the entrance, an old lady working there told me not to use selfie sticks. It’s not a selfie stick. There was no sign saying photography was prohibited anywhere, so I resumed filming for a bit. It was a luxurious mansion with over 100 servants. It must have been a nighttime party. I wonder if people overseas would understand what a feudal lord is. I imagine them as high-ranking aristocrats. There is a figure placed there. The servants’ room? This is the maid’s room. I wonder if there was a maid who would make advances on him every night. Please stop, sir. Something like that. Shoes are not allowed inside, so I put my shoes in plastic bags, but the plastic makes noise. The garden is also spacious. It’s a very large mansion. A family playing We go back and head towards the Japanese-style building. In front of the Japanese-style building is the Museum of Modern Japanese Literature. The wood grain has aged quite a bit. It’s probably not from the original construction, but it seems to have been there for quite some time. I couldn’t take any photos because a group of tourists were sitting on the tatami mats inside, so I took a picture of the garden. That’s all for today. Thank you for watching.
