Japan Trip to Nagoya & Yui
Today, we’re moving from Osaka to Nagoya.. But first, we need to get to Osaka Station to catch the Shinkansen. The Shinkansen ride from Osaka to Nagoya takes about an hour, enough time for breakfast! So we grabbed some food to eat on the train. I’ve had my eye on this crab bento box for a while! Quick chugging down a convenience store mineral jelly
for extra energy to push the luggage. Found a cool coffee machine on the Shinkansen platform. It will be cooler if the cutting mark is deeper.. PS: the crab bento leans toward the sweet side.. (ᵕ—ᴗ—) This is why we love Japanese omotenashi..
Look at these crab-printed chopstick wraps! Time to get off.. We’re spending one night in Nagoya before heading to Shizuoka tomorrow morning. First stop: drop off our luggage at the hotel, then off to AEON Mall to chill at Starbucks while waiting for check-in time. Ahh~ Feeling lucky to still catch the koinobori decorations considering the Children’s Day in early May has already passed! The carp symbolizes strength, perseverance, and good luck.
Koinobori are meant to inspire these qualities in children. I love collecting cute posters in Japan! The Starbucks is inside this bookstore~ I’ve seen this spot all over social media, but no one ever mentions the “No Photos” sign. Let’s head upstairs to Starbucks first. Found some adorable merch!
…but it’s only redeemable with loyalty points. ( •̯́ ₃ •̯̀) Our original plan was: after this café break, check in to the hotel,
then explore Osu Shopping Street. But since both my friends suddenly got hit with urgent work calls,
we stayed at the café a bit longer. While waiting, I decided to try catching a nice video of the infinite bookcase stairs. And… I also made an impulsive decision to buy this book. LOL. It’s like a “Where’s Waldo” but it’s Stitch version! On the other side of the mall, there’s a historic redbrick building.
It gives off strong Yokohama and Hakodate red brick vibes. At the Noritake Garden pond, we spotted water striders!
The same insect featured on manhole covers around the city. The japanese name is Amenbo
and they are known to live only in super clean, unpolluted water. We left the mall in the late afternoon, since it’s already too late, we skipped Osu Shopping Street. And just wander around for food coz we’re starving. The wind is very strong on the outside today……. Strong enough to cause a poltergeist on bikes. Still debating between the giant tempura place
or the restaurant next door. It might not seen large in this video, but trust me,
the shrimp tempura is giant! Finally we agreed for the restaurant next door,
because it has more various menu. The menu is cutely hand drawn illustrated (°o°)~ Don’t worry english menu also available! After eating, we headed straight back to the hotel to check in. At the hotel lobby, there are some Nagoya’s famous attraction recommendation pasted on the wall. They even have a luggage scale! (°ロ°) Pretty solid amenity lineup to choose! Here are the amenities that we picked out~ All of them smells amazing! Okay, let’s refill our drinking water before heading to the next spot. Next stop: Kiyosu Castle! It’s walkable from the train station, but since the sun won’t wait..
we’re going to take the bus. The bus stop itself also just a short walk from the station. The bus only costs 100 yen per person. Not bringing jackets was a big mistake.
The wind plus the cold? Brutal combo ( _ ‸ _ˡˡˡ) Turns out.. this area is crossed by both bullet trains and local trains. From the parking lot, we walked through a lush garden
before arriving to the castle. Wondering what is the meaning of stacked stone.. ( •̀ – • )? The red bridge and paper lanterns give serious
Spirited Away Ghibli vibes. The evening sky hit us with an epic anime filter. I’m so happy we came here,
even if it’s freezing, with the beautiful view it became bearable We walked back to the train station since the return bus route
isn’t direct. It’s only a 15-minute walk anyway. well…. it took almost half an hour actually,
because I keep stopping to record the ethereal sunset. Back at Nagoya Station, we met up with one of our friends for dinner. Counting the digits of this branded watch (˘ŏ_ŏ) These stairs are probably the real reason
we don’t worry about calories in Japan. This station feels like a maze with stairs
I’m glad I filmed this as proof of a workout! I was hoping for Ceruledge, but pulled Armarouge instead. Also tried my luck on this 100%-you-can’t-guess Nissin cup miniature. If I’d known I’d find this Armarouge plamo at Bic Camera,
I wouldn’t have gacha’d earlier. WAH! Full Hunter x Hunter team standees spotted! Trusting a gachapon machine to safely hold my insta360.. Anime made it look so easy to rock these kitsune masks…
meanwhile in reality, I’m all fumbling fingers and awkward angles. A must-try in Nagoya: chicken wings!
So we headed to a famous chain for Nagoya-style wings. These “Maboroshi no Tebasaki” (phantom chicken wings) are known for their spicy, peppery kick and crispy texture. I suggested 20 wings, but the boys said just 10 to start…
you know what? We ended up eating over 20 anyway. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ You can choose the flavor level—we went with standard,
and it already packed a punch. Cheers with Blue Cider and Calpico Coke! On our way back to the hotel, we stopped by Lawson. And, of course, left with more stuff
including a special edition jelly candy collab. Time to grab PJs before bed. It’s my first time seeing pajamas in separated model like this. Let’s unbox the jelly and see what card we got! I don’t know what character is this, but the illustration is cool!
I like it~ Ever heard of Yui in Shizuoka?
We’re heading there this morning to discover its sakura ebi! The checkout process was very simple just returned the card key,
and we’re good to go. Today’s shinkansen bento is from Misokatsu Yabaton,
one of Nagoya’s famous eats. I also grabbed some Nagoya-style chicken wing chips from Plusta. After all our (food) preparation is finished,
we’re so ready to board our shinkansen As usual, I always go for the simple onigiri,
anyway, I got the perfect open today! No nori was tored~~ First thing first, after arriving at Shizuoka Station: find a coin locker to store all our luggage before heading to Yui. The coin lockers is really convinience, especially if you want to visit somewhere else before the destination city All big luggage can be stored whilst we can enjoy our short visit It’s cheaper compared using luggage forwarding services,
and you can pay with an IC card. If your IC card doesn’t have enough balance, cash works too! Just remember: if you use cash, keep the receipt
coz you’ll need it to open the locker later. With everything stored, it’s time for a short trip to Yui
it’s not far from Shizuoka station. Ah.. There was a train separation earlier, but I realized it too late. While waiting for our train, we caught a glimpse of the Royal Express pulling into the station. From the peek inside, it looks super luxurious. Is… is that mount Fuji??? I was surprised to see the Royal Express also stops at Yui! The sakura ebi restaurant we’re heading to is just across the station but since there’s no direct pedestrian crossing,
we have to loop around the tracks. We walked through a tunnel that led to a small port area. We arrived at the restaurant from the back. it’s definitely more car-friendly based on
how close it is to the main road. You need to get a queue number first from the inside. While waiting, we chilled under the restaurant’s outdoor tent. What I noticed is.. unlike other type of shrimp which just turn pinkish when cooked, Sakura ebi already pink even when they’re alive The store also sells various snacks related to sakura ebi
near the cashier. I wish they sold their store uniform as a merch. They gave me a heart-shaped tempura because I’m a girl
adorable gesture, haha. The ebi salt is so good—we wanted to sprinkle it on everything. We bought some of the salt to take home and enjoy. Walking round back along side the train track Walking by the port like this reminds me of the Korean drama Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha. Btw, at the end we just realize that the real mount Fuji
is hiding behind the cloud curtain Time to head back to Shizuoka Station before continuing on to Tokyo. Btw.. Did you know Shizuoka is famous for plastic models and hobby goods? It’s home to brands like Tamiya and Bandai. That’s why you’ll find life-sized plastic model-style displays around town.. like this telephone booth! (and yes, it works!) We still had some time before our Shinkansen to Tokyo, so we hung out at ASTY, the shopping complex inside Shizuoka Station. Just learned that when you dine in at Tully’s Cafe here,
they’ll give you a stay pass. While my friends stayed at the café, we checked out a
nearby gacha store, #C-pla. Tried the Sengoku teaware series… And yes! I got the shachihoko I wanted!! What’s with this random sorted of frog gachapon? Haha We got carried away at the gacha shop and almost missed our Shinkansen. Rushed to grab our bags from the coin lockers By the way, if you used your IC card, you can unlock multiple lockers under the same card. Handy! We made it to the platform just as the train pulled in. But we still had to race to our car up front! (ó﹏ò。) Bye for now, Mount Fuji.. Bye Shizuoka… As we get closer to Tokyo, it’s time to… Get ready for the Conan Stamp Rally! Hahaha First stamp of the day: Kogoro Mouri at Tokyo Station. We managed to collect two stamps tonight..
one more at Akihabara, which is on the way to our Airbnb. Grabbed a quick snack refill before heading to Bic Camera. Is diamond painting trending in Tokyo right now? Rolled this gacha for a friend. I got too curious and couldn’t wait..
so.. unboxed them while waiting for my Yoshinoya dinner. ^^;; Itadakimasu! But first—check out this nifty Japanese convenient food packaging tech! Okay, that’s it for today.. thanks for sticking with me till the very end ❤️
In this video, we’re heading to Nagoya to visit the charming Kiyosu Castle, a small castle that warlord Oda Nobunaga once called home! Then we make our way to a cozy little town in Shizuoka, called Yui, famous for its pink shrimp specialty. Watch as we slurp down a bowl of their must-try ebi ramen and soak in the peaceful seaside vibes.
