Going back and forth between Tokyo and Kanagawa Current location: Machida, Tokyo Just outside the north exit of Machida Station on the Odakyu Line. This time, we will explore the area around Machida Station. Your subscription is the beginning of a journey. Let’s go to a new view. I had previously been requested to take photos in Machida, so I decided to focus on the temples, shrines, and Buddhist temples. The tenant on the first floor of this building was a pachinko parlor for a long time, but it is now a Matsumotokiyoshi department store. On the left is the Odakyu office. This area is also likely to change due to redevelopment. Looking at aerial photographs taken after the war, this area appears to have been entirely residential. The parking lot in front of me is owned by Odakyu. It seems that the area around Seiyu will be redeveloped as well. Apparently a movie theater will be built there. It seems like a waste of the land as it is now. Now, the abandoned house in front of us is the one you often see in videos of Machida station. Although the area is now mostly made up of small buildings, it was originally a residential area and this is a vestige of that. Judging from the roof, it must have been a very expensive house to begin with. Even now, the land alone would likely be worth hundreds of millions. About 30 seconds walk from Machida Station. I’m sure Yoshida Rui has come to this restaurant. A Chinese deli. A typical store for Chinese people living in Japan. This soba restaurant, which looks like a private home, is apparently famous. I think this area is under the control of large landowners. The apartments and condominiums surrounding the super-luxury mansion The Ancestor Gacha was a big success. They had land in a nice place. The walls of the mansion still continue on into the distance. I guess this is how they incorporate and deal with inheritance tax and stuff. Land is for sale. Around here, a plot of this size would probably go for around 60 to 70 million yen. I wonder if it seems cheap to people from overseas. The building over there is Machida City Hall. We have arrived at Myoenji Temple. It was founded in 1376, so it is a temple that is about 700 years old. It says that no matter what your circumstances are, your smile and kind heart will give everyone the strength to live. Nichiren sect. It seems like there are a lot of Nichiren sects around here. The main hall was destroyed in an air raid and was rebuilt after the war. There were air raids in Machida too. I remember there were only fields and farmland there until the war. Statue of Nichiren Antique stone monument That’s all for today. Thank you for watching. Your subscription will help me to take on the next journey. Likes will also help support me.
