“Guiding KYOTO with my dog” Hello! In this video, I’ll introduce you to Uji, a town popular for the historical drama. I’ve visited places related to “10 Chapters of Uji” & “Michinaga Fujiwara”/MAP at the end. “Byodoin Temple” A World Heritage Site and home to many national treasures and cultural assets. It is an essential part of Uji’s sightseeing. Byodoin Temple was a villa that Michinaga inherited from Minamoto Shigenobu. It is said to appear as a villa of the late Hikaru Genji in the “10 Chapters of Uji”. The Amida Hall (Phoenix Hall) is famous for its design on the 10-yen coin. The lotus bowls here and there are beautiful. Hoshokan Museum is located in the precincts. National treasures and cultural assets are housed and exhibited in the museum. The popular statue of “Unchu Kuyo Bosatsu” can also be seen there. The air conditioner was comfortable there! The statue of Murasaki Shikibu at the west end of Uji Bridge. From this side, you can proceed to the main approach to Byodoin Temple. Nakamura Tokichi’s new cafe. 💖 There were many delicious-looking drinks! But there were so many people, so I gave up. You can see Asagiri Bridge. I had a cup of green tea at Yamadaen. Tea dumplings I bought before were delicious. So I bought 18 dumplings at Inafusa Yasukane! The inside of the store is also very nice! The entrance to the Byodoin Temple is just around the corner. “Uji Shrine” Uji Shrine located at the foot of Asagiri Bridge. Uji Shrine is dedicated to the god Uji no Wakiiratsuko (model for Hachinomiya). Legend has it that a rabbit guided Wakiiratsuko when he lost her way. Hence, the “Mikaeri(looking back)-Usagi” is the symbol of the shrine. He was the son of Emperor Ojin. There is a theory that this is the origin of the name of the place, “Uji”. “Ujikami Jinja Shrine” All of the 6 places introduced, with the exception of Hakusan Shrine, are within a compact area. The directions are also displayed in a very easy-to-understand manner. Ujikami Jinja Shrine is registered as a World Heritage Site along with Byodoin Temple. The main hall is the oldest shrine building in Japan. It is made of wood from the late Heian period and is designated as a national treasure. The maple trees are so beautiful that I would love to visit during the autumn foliage season. The hall of worship is also a national treasure. It is made of cypress that was cut down in the early Kamakura period. Kirihara Water, one of the 7 famous waters of Uji, is the only water in existence. This is the hand-watering basin. It looks rustic and mysterious as it was in those days. This is the main hall. This is a structure I have not seen so often. It is said to be the model of the villa of Hachinomiya(half brother of Hikaru Genji). Since his mansion in Kyoto was lost, he retired to his villa in Uji. The other shrines are also very primitive. If you come to Uji, I highly recommend you to visit them. Soba Restaurant, “Shu baku” It was a hot day, so we went to soba restaurant. We had “Soba with Spicy Grated Radish” and “Cold Tanuki Soba”! The restaurant is very popular and was packed right after opening. Soba with spicy grated raddish is juwari soba, and it must be eaten right away. It is said to be easily stretched. Let’s hurry! This is “Cold Tanuki Soba” ordered by Papa-san. Sweet and spicy fried bean curd, white onion and tenkasu are on top. Refreshing soba, perfect for lunch on a hot day. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal. Chicken Restaurant, “Kokoro” Popular Yakitori-Izakaya restaurant. The restaurant was almost full, but we were able to get in right away. We had lunch here. Papa-san had the “Kokoro Lunch Set” and I had the “Chicken Rice Lunch Set”. The lunch was very generous. The chicken tempura and yakitori were especially delicious. First time eating chicken rice. I don’t know how to eat …..💦 There were also chopped Narazuke pickles. I didn’t know, but I ate them as I liked. (laughs) The salad was voluptuous and the charcoal grilled chicken was delicious. We were very full! Thank you for the food. “The Tale of Genji Museum” This museum allows visitors to experience the Tale of Genji and the culture of the Heian period. They have reconstructed models, videos, and an incense sniffing experience. The inside of the museum, which can be seen from the outside, was also very nice! It is located near Ujigami Shrine, in an area with a lot of greenery. It was a hot day, but I enjoyed the walk to here. Photography is allowed inside the museum. So I would like to come back to take pictures.👍 “Hakusan Shrine” This is the only area not included in the map. It is located in a place that is difficult to visit unless you have a car or are in good health. Michinaga’s granddaughter, Kanshi, built Konjiki-in Temple here in Shirakawa. Hakusan Shrine was built as its shrine. It seems to have been a kind of inner sanctuary of Byodoin Temple. I climbed the stairs as hard as I could.👍 A Japanese mirror and other items from the late Heian period have been excavated in the vicinity. They are thought to be traces of rituals. The shrine is covered with heaped sand, and white sand is spread along the route of worship. Empty shrine was filled with sound of cicadas, creating a fantastic, mysterious atmosphere. “Eshinin Temple” In front of Uji Shrine near Asagiri Bridge. “Monument of Uji 10 chapters” A stone statue of Ukifune and Nioumiya rowing on the Uji River. Continue in the opposite direction from the station. There is a slope leading to Eshinin Temple in front of the Fukujuen. When my friend took me there last year, there were many flowers in bloom. I was told that it is called “the temple of flowers. However, it was midsummer and there were few flowers, and the place was quiet. The temple was rebuilt by Genshin. He is the model for the monk who saved Ukifune who threw herself into the Uji River. Genshin is famous as the author of the mid-Heian Buddhist book “Oujo-Youshu. The last time I visited, the chimney of the “Asahi-yaki” kiln was right in front of me. However, now it is covered by trees and grass and cannot be seen. You can see the Phoenix Hall! The Uji River is a wide and fast flowing river. “Historical Park of Green Tea and Uji Town” This facility is located near Keihan Uji Station. Currently, it is hosting the “Hikaru Kimi e” Grand Drama Exhibition. It is convenient for gathering information. It is also convenient for dining, café, and souvenir shopping. The hands-on classes are also full and seem to be popular! I also stopped by Iwai Confectionery next door. I was able to sample freshly made hot candies there. I bought my favorite Nikki candy.🎶 The main store of “Tsuji Rihei” “Tsuji Rihei”, founded in 1861. A tea store located in quiet area near JR Uji Sta.. It is a little far from the tourist area, but it is a quiet, relaxing and very soothing store. As soon as you enter the store, you will find sweets and other treats made from tea. It’s also convenient to buy souvenirs! The store has a luxurious feel. I guess the prices are a little expensive. It was also hot, so I relaxed in a comfortable chair to cool off and look at the garden. Green tea is nice too. 💖 I had decided to have shaved ice, but my mind was swaying. (laughs) Eating comparison? Set includes 🎶Genmaicha, Matcha, and Hojicha. The cutlery is also very nice. 💖 My favorite was the Genmaicha!

暑い中、お疲れ様でした！地元民にとっても新鮮で発見の多い、充実した宇治案内、ありがとうございます。実は白山神社は未到の地！というか白川、子どものときに行ったきりだ・・・宇治川を見下ろす山の中腹に小学校があるのですが、白川や、その奥の子たちも通ってましたね。今もかな。な〜んて遠い昔を思い出しました。またぜひ、いらしてくださいね。

こちらはエアコンの効いたお部屋で涼しく拝見させていただきましたが、当日は暑い中お疲れ様でした🍀
平等院はもうずいぶん前、20年余り前に行ったきりですが、当時は何かの修理の最中で、キチンと見られなかったと記憶しています。
宇治は仕事の関係で訪れたことがありますが、それも30年近く昔で、駅近くのお茶やさんで休憩したことがあって、たぶん伊藤久右衛門さんだったのかもしれないのですが、記憶が曖昧です😅
でも、当時は今ほど観光客も多くなく、平日ということもあって、すぐに席につけたと思います。
それこそ、店舗の片隅が喫茶コーナーになっていて、本格的な茶寮という風でもなかったような？🤭
『響けユーフォニアム』の聖地としても宇治は有名で、宇治橋や宇治神社は訪れるオタクがたくさんいらっしゃるとか😊
美味しそうなお蕎麦やかき氷に心動かされました😅
やっぱり、夏は冷たいものが美味しいですよね🎵
私も定年を迎えて時間ができましたから、いろいろ参考にさせていただいて巡りたいと思います😊

宇治茶の発祥地の宇治田原町、宇治はじめの山城以外の丹波 丹後でもお茶が作り始まっていると思います。京都府 京都市内もお茶のことを京茶と呼ばれていると思います。特に静岡県では牧之原茶 川根茶 本山茶という産地になっています。
そば湯🤤宇治は自然と一緒に残ってる寺社が多いですよね。そのまんま、という感じで。最後フクくんかわいかった😊
