【最終回】クライストチャーチ街歩きVlog🇳🇿|震災から14年、再生するアートの街|紙の教会|リバーサイドマーケット|ニュージーランド旅行

Departed from the Hermitage Hotel at 10:00 and took a break in Tekapo along the way.
Found a candle with my favorite scent at the gift shop ♡ I can’t resist scented items, so I bought two ♡ The snow globe was cute, so I bought it as a souvenir of my New Zealand trip I’ve decided on you! Purchased some snacks for the drive Bought a café latte here Filled up with gas The system for sprinkling water or fertilizer that I occasionally saw along the roads in New Zealand was novel It takes about three hours by car from Tekapo to Christchurch.
It rained all day today. The town of Lake Kaia, which has a huge salmon statue.
There are public restrooms and cafes, making it a perfect place to take a break. We entered the city. It resembles Auckland. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a two-lane road. We’re almost in Christchurch. We’ve arrived in Christchurch. We arrived a little early, so I’d like to visit the Cardboard Cathedral today. Ah! I can see it now! It took me 20 minutes to find a parking spot, which was a bit of a hassle… Ah, we’re here!
This is the Cardboard Cathedral. This cathedral was built as a temporary facility until the cathedral destroyed by the Christchurch earthquake could be rebuilt. The designer of this temporary paper cathedral is Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. I was admiring the exterior design when it closed… I’ll come back tomorrow. I hadn’t been able to do laundry since Wanaka, so I came to the coin laundry. The rain is getting heavier, so I’m heading back to the hotel. Since I only have one day in Christchurch, I chose a hotel with a good location and parking. The reliable IHG hotel. The shower room is stylish with a skeleton design. Rarely seen in New Zealand, amenities and slippers are also provided. The facilities are perfect. Staying in Christchurch for one night.
This is the last accommodation of the New Zealand tour. Unfortunately, it poured rain at the very end. We had dinner at the restaurant inside the hotel. A dinner where each dish is a work of art
Artistic dishes that melt your heart with every bite When it comes to places to enjoy even in the rain, there’s the casino
It’s open until midnight, so I’ll play a little I won a little and returned to my room to sleep I left my luggage at the hotel and went for a walk around the city. A cute street lined with colorful buildings. A historic shopping district dating back to 1932.
There’s a railway track running through the middle, and trams occasionally pass by, adding a touch of style. A glass-walled shopping mall.
It also serves as the starting point for the tram line. Christchurch is filled with wall art and sculptures!
The city is brimming with art, making it an exciting place to explore. The intricate details, such as the shading, are truly remarkable. Everywhere you go, there are large-scale, high-quality wall art pieces, making it a joy to walk around. The Cardboard Church is in sight (yesterday’s revenge). The cathedral was destroyed by the earthquake that occurred on February 22, 2011.
This temporary cathedral was built by a Japanese architect using paper materials. Despite being made of paper, it has a quality that prevents it from burning. The cross and altar are also made of paper materials. I made a $2 donation. I prayed for the repose of the souls of those who suffered in the earthquake and for the reconstruction of the cathedral. After making the donation, I was asked, “Where are you from?” When I answered, “Japan,” they gave me a Japanese-language pamphlet. I was impressed by how sturdy it was, despite being made of paper. This is the church for those affected by the disaster.
It is currently under repair. A 150th anniversary monument stands watch over the cathedral under reconstruction. It will become such a beautiful building (cathedral). This is what it means to be reborn. The reconstruction work is aiming for completion in 2027. I want to visit again once the cathedral is completed. I walked around the cathedral and felt the extent of the damage. It’s been 14 years since the reconstruction, but there’s still a long way to go. This feels like the city center. It kind of resembles Oakland, doesn’t it?
It also feels similar to Sydney. We’re heading to the most popular spot right now. A gourmet spot with over 30 gourmet shops.
I’ve been waiting since morning to try everything here. First, I’ll take a look around and pick out what I want to eat. In addition to local cuisine, there are also many international cuisines such as Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Greek. There are also many local ingredients and stylish products, making it perfect for souvenir shopping. There are so many gourmet options that I spent 30 minutes deciding… The yakisoba looked so delicious I couldn’t resist!
I bought some yakisoba. I’ll eat it at the second-floor dining area. I was hungry, but both were absolutely delicious! ♡ The éclair I noticed earlier was the last one!
I’ll have it for dessert. Oh no! ♡ I bought it! This fresh cream is so delicious that I fell in love with it in New Zealand. I’ll eat it last. ♡ There was a line at the coffee shop.
The owner was Japanese and very kind. I had tea on the terrace in the back. The flat white was delicious ♩
It seems to have been featured in the local newspaper, and I can see why it’s so popular. During this trip, I met many Japanese people working hard in New Zealand, and I was impressed by their lifestyle of challenging themselves overseas. Seeing people take on challenges makes me want to look forward too. Pizza battle w While watching the pizza battle, I somehow ended up being targeted w It’s rare to see birds come this close. Maybe tourists are feeding them. The riverside market was so much fun! The Bridge of Remembrance spanning the Avon River During World War I, soldiers crossed this bridge to go to battlefields in various countries. There are artworks scattered all over the place, making it really fun to walk around the city. I buy souvenirs of things that were useful during my trip. A beautiful park that evokes the history of New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The lush greenery along the Avon River creates a wonderful urban oasis atmosphere. An architectural installation created as part of a post-earthquake project. There were many innovative urban planning ideas throughout the city, offering plenty to learn. Walking is surely a strength of this city.
I felt a desire to quietly support the city’s future through tourism. So, finally, I’m off to the casino! w Alright, here we go again today. I just can’t end the trip without wrapping it up here. So, I’m off! Casino, I won a little again~♩
(190 dollars / approximately 16,000 yen) New Zealand might be a great fit for me! ♩ The New Zealand casino where I had my biggest win ever. Now I’ll return the car and head to the airport. I’m going to fill up on gas now. Oh, it’s starting to clear up. What a relief at the very end. Every day was filled with the changing seasons, but the capricious weather also made the trip more enjoyable. The important moments were always sunny. It was so much fun! I filled up the gas tank for the last time. This is the end of the road for this car.
It was such a comfortable ride. Maybe it’s better to rent a slightly larger car on the South Island. First, we’ll take a domestic flight to Auckland. Once again, it was a bit over 23 kg.
But I’ve learned my lesson, so I should be fine! The luggage was 23.5 kg, so I got a Heavy tag and it was okay. It seems like it can go up to 23.99 kg. Finally, I enjoyed a flat white. Unexpected equipment failure forced us to turn back, casting doubt on the international flight connection… We were temporarily disembarked and waited at the airport, departing approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes late. We moved to the terminal by bus We arrived safely in Auckland, but even though the check-in time had already passed, we did online check-in as soon as we arrived I tried to go in right away, but then I found out that the domestic and international terminals are far apart, so I hurried over by bus. I checked in online, but baggage check-in closes in 20 minutes, so I’m rushing to check my bags. I managed to check in my luggage safely.
That was close! I had planned a 3-hour 30-minute buffer for the domestic and international flight connections, but it was still pretty tight. A 19-night, 22-day tour of New Zealand.
It was a happy time, like taking a deep breath in nature.
Thank you to everyone who made this trip possible.
