ALOHA! This is Sakurai. This time, I’m going to Kyushu and visit Fukuoka, Mojiko, Kokura, and Hakata. I’ll also introduce some recommended restaurants, so please read to the end. This trip starts from Kitakyushu Airport. I took a bus from the airport and arrived at Kokura Station in about 50 minutes. I left my luggage and took a train for about 15 minutes. I arrived at Mojiko Station! Mojiko Station, which opened in 1914 as Moji Station, was restored to its original appearance in 2019 after six years of restoration work. There are monuments such as the “Departure Bell” and the “Fountain of Happiness” on the platform . The two-story wooden station building in the neo-Renaissance style houses a Starbucks and restaurants with a retro atmosphere. This time, I had lunch at a restaurant on the second floor of the station building . When I visited before , it was called “Mikado Shokudo” , but when I visited this time , it was called “Mojiko Geihinkan”. The polished wooden ceiling is beautiful, and the window frames through which the sunlight shines in also give off a sense of the atmosphere of the time, so you can enjoy your meal while enjoying the retro atmosphere of the Western-style building. Although I didn’t make a reservation this time, I was able to have a lunch course meal . The first appetizer that came out was a really elaborate dish, and I was excited to see what would come next as I ate . The French cuisine, which uses fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients from the local Kanmon area as well as from Kyushu and Yamaguchi , was all carefully prepared and was so delicious that I definitely want to go again !思い出しました。 English : This is the most recommended place in Mojiko Port ♪ If you pass the square with Mojiko Station behind you, you will come to the “Kitakyushu City Former Mojiko Mitsui Club.” This Western-style building was built in 1921 as a social club for Mitsui & Co. and is a symbol of Mojiko retro. Inside you will find a restaurant that retains the atmosphere of a social venue, the Mitsui Club and event hall , the Einstein Memorial Room, and the Memorial Room for Hayashi Fumiko, an author who was born in Moji . You can also take your time to explore the interior of the building, including the beautiful Art Deco decorations that have been worked into every detail. After passing through Former Mitsui Club Street, you can walk along Gaslight Street. I saw a ship in the bay. It looks like a tourist boat called the “Mojiko Retro Cruise.” It sails in the Kanmon Straits area for about 20 minutes . I would have liked to go if I had had the time. The red brick building in front of me is the “Former Moji Customs House.” As this is the birthplace of banana sales, I wonder if there is a banana mascot? As you walk along Gaslight Street while looking at the sea , you will soon see the observation deck when you reach Retro Chuo Street. At the foot of the observation deck is the Kitakyushu City Dalian Friendship Memorial Hall, which also houses a Chinese restaurant called Dalian Akasia. Now, let’s go up to the observation deck . We take a direct elevator to the observation room, which is 103 meters above the ground. You can see Ganryu Island in the distance . You can see the red brick building of the Old Moji Customs House, which we passed earlier, from above. You can also clearly see the Old Mitsui Club and Mojiko Station . It’s like a time slip♪ The retro buildings are gathered together and it’s very beautiful♪ The view overlooking the Kanmon Straits was really amazing . The night view looks beautiful too♪ It was a recommended spot that you can walk to from the station♪ In the next video, we will go on a food tour of Kokura and Hakata. Please take a look .
