BEST Ocean View! 12 HR Sleeper Train Along French Riviera: Paris to Nice 🇫🇷

Today we are riding a sleeper train along the French Riviera And enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean. Please enjoy the trip! Bonjour! We are in Paris! The city of arts… …Eiffel Tower …and fancy bakeries So I packed some for our trip today. Our FIRST EVER sleeper train journey in Europe! From Paris to Nice Here’s the route We’ll depart from Paris at 21:25, head south overnight to Marseille, and then enjoy a scenic ride along the Mediterranean to Nice (9:09) Almost 12 hours, covering 1100 km (683 miles) Our journey starts from Gare d’Austerlitz station. For those of you not familiar of this station, it is very FANCY. Here you’ll find €1 pay-to-pee toilets Vending machines selling €3 waters And pigeons hunting for dinner… Oh there’s also a shower room But only for people arriving in Paris in 1st class couchettes Time for boarding The train has 6 cars in total, 1 with normal seats, 4 with 2nd class couchettes and 1 with 1st class couchettes. We’ll stay at the 1st class couchette Featuring 4 beds per compartment For private use of the whole room, we booked with 2 adults and 2 phantom kids… The total cost is 536 EUR. Here’s our room. Well looks pretty clean and modern. There’s still some time before departure so let’s take a look around the train. The train is called Intercités de Nuit The locomotive seems to have quite a history. But since the train has just been refurbished in 2023 so the inside looks quite new, This is the 2nd class couchettes 6 beds per compartment This is the car with normal seats No many people here. Of course not as comfy as the couchettes But is an option if you are on budget. There is storage for big luggages. And even designated area for bikes Time for departure Goodbye Paris! I will miss you! Wow We are just in time for the final glow of the sunset. Room tour time The door of the compartment can be locked Over the door we have… Central light control And climate control Free WIFI onboard Fast enough to watch Youtube videos Bed size 190 x 75 cm (75 x 25.5 inch) There’s a huge ladder leading to the upper berth VERY SPACIOUS up here Each bed gets a pillow And fresh beddings Reading light and outlet A little shelf A bottle of water Amenity bag Eye mask Sorry I don’t understand French… ? This should be paper Well someone is knocking our door… It’s the conductor… All right ladies and gentlemen… TERRIBLE NEWS The conductor said 2 strangers would join our room Yes 2 strangers Their beds were broken, and the couchettes were fully booked… 🫠🫠🫠 So our “private” room isn’t private now…😭 What’s even worse? The conductor refused to refund the 2 extra tickets we paid for private use. WHAT THE HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN?!? We need something sweet Desserts are healing I’ll prepare for bed ??? OH NO the toilet in our car is out of service… We’ll have to use the toilet of 2nd class… Sigh…what a night… You step on this ball to flush. And step on another ball for water from the tap. There’s also a separate washroom We are heading south. There won’t be any stops during the night until Marseille tomorrow morning Our roommates already went to sleep. Oh it’s actually a sleeping bag Too many things went wrong today… Let’s make a wish to wake up at the beautiful Mediterranean. Good nighters Well it’s not the Mediterranean yet… I just can’t sleep…😪 The train is so bumpy… I can feel the driver’s foot on every pedal… It will be a long night… The sun is finally coming up I slept for about 3 hours last night… 🥱 We are approaching Marseille. Our roommates are getting ready to get off here So we’ll finally have the entire room to ourselves for the rest of the trip. Marseille According to Chatgpt, it’s the oldest city in France, founded by Greek settlers around 600 BC. I hope to visit here one day. The sunshine and the warm air remind me of arriving in Orlando
after one night on Amtrak’s Floridian. But the red roof, trimmed tree, old cobblestone houses… Yup, we are in south France! Breakfast time BTW, breakfast is not included in the fare. You can preorder online …or buy from this tiny little snack stand Cheers for a beautiful morning in South France Madeleine Better than those from Costco. Potato pie Well… It will be better if it’s heated Almost forget we got something else Yes the croissant from Paris It’s said to be the champion of croissant in Paris. Look at the airy layers I guess Costco wins in quantity. Thanks for the scenic breakfast We’re approaching to … Toulon I heard it’s a major naval port in France Oh yay We are finally nearing the sea. The Mediterranean If you’ve taken Amtrak’s Coast Starlight train running along the Pacific Ocean, this train is like the European version of it. Just that we’re are a bit farther back from the sea, So rocks and villages will occasionally block the view Still, when the view opens up, it’s pure Mediterranean magic. Look The snow mountains We are about to arrive. We made it to Nice. Wow the smell of summer I need to change summer wear. A NICE station. It’s about 20 mins walk from Nice Ville to the ocean front. Here we are at the Promenade des Anglais. That’s the soul of Nice: Look at the pebble beaches, the golden sunshine the turquoise waves We heard there’s a more charming place to see the Mediterranean. Just 2 km (7.5 miles) from Nice… …lies a charming medieval village Named Èze Everyone told me it is a nice nice place So let’s check it out Same as other cliff villages, there are A LOT of steps in Eze. So wear comfortable shoes After climbing I guess 1,000 steps… We reached the top of Eze – Le Jardin Exotique It’s basically a beautiful botanical garden Is that a Joshua tree??? What’s more stunning than the plants is this… Look at this view! It’s definitely worth the climb. We are back in Nice. My stomach is yelling for food Time for a French feast I ordered the appetizer based on my imagination… …and my imagination turns out to be very trustworthy. Grilled shrimp salad Wawa loves it! Being in France, we can’t miss the duck breast. Emmmm OH MY Even better than the one I ate in Paris Wawa got the sea bass It comes with tomato and eggplant sauce They are like a genius match with the fish. The foods are so good So we decided to try out their dessert. I’m always confused what’s the right way to eat a mille-feuille… It’s just impossible not to make a mess… I’ve tried my best… We decided to treat ourselves with some after-dessert Seems to be some fruit candy bar… It’s sunset time It’s totally a different vibe on the beach. ? I didn’t expect to see this lady here… I heard a rumor that the French people want to get this lady back from New York… Tomorrow we’ll go check out the best panoramic views of Nice. So good night The best way to see the panoramic views of Nice is to take the Ascenseur du Château It’s an elevator taking you to the hill top. Well…seems like there’re still a few steps to climb to reach the best viewpoint. So not wheelchair friendly… Wow Thanks for watching till now! Hope you enjoyed the views! We are Travel Within Reach. 1.
