The hidden area and the magnificent view in the southernmost part of Kumamoto Prefecture. Click the subtitle button or CC button to enjoy the full subtitles. Hello everyone, this is Watatabi. I’m currently in the southern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, and when you think of Kumamoto, you think of hot springs. So , this time, I’m going to go around the magnificent view of southern Kumamoto Prefecture until I’m exhausted in order to take a bath in the best hot spring. First, I’m heading to Hitoyoshi City in Kumamoto Prefecture. I’m heading for “Yaguro no Kiridoshi”, a minor tourist spot a little away from the city center. I wonder if there’s a parking lot or something? Let’s pass in front of it for a while. Where is it? There’s a lot of traffic, but can there be such a view in a place like this? Is that possible!? Worst… Why? A tree is falling… Is this it? This is the entrance. There was a parking space that could fit one or two cars. We arrived. It’s along a very busy road, but there’s a space like this where one or two cars can be parked. Can there be such a view in a place like this? It seems to be the entrance, so let’s go. This is it. Yesterday’s rain has turned this road into a water passage. Maybe I should have worn boots. This is what the road looks like. Amazing. If you walk 50m from the road, you feel like you’re in the forest. I don’t recommend this on a rainy day or the day after it. The footing is quite rough. Oh, amazing. Is this it? This is it. This is a place called “Yaguro no Kiridoshi”, which used to be a village road. It’s about 2.5m wide, and on both sides there are steep walls 5m to 15m high. This scenery continues for about 200m. It seems that horse-drawn carriages and carts used to pass by. The traces of this are still clearly visible. It’s a minor tourist spot, but more and more people are visiting it as a power spot. So I’d like to go and see what kind of place it is. It’s really amazing. It’s already about 5m high at this point. Is this a place that was formed naturally? It’s called a village road, so maybe it was cut into the ground. I think it’s an artificially created road. Wow, it’s amazing! It’s like this. It’s amazing from here. I never thought there would be a place like this right next to the road. Amazing. It goes on and on like this. This area is a bit of a slope. There are traces of someone being here. There are footprints. It continues for 200m, and I head towards the exit. I wonder if this is the trace of a horse-drawn carriage. I think it’s the trace of a horse-drawn carriage or a cart. I wonder if that’s the exit. It’s scary because it looks like a tree is going to fall from above. That’s the exit. It may not be in the picture, but there is a building here. So this is the end. The footing is bad from here, so I’ll turn back here. It was a pretty nice place like this. If you’re in the area, please come and visit. There are many tourist spots such as Hitoyoshi Onsen. I’m heading to my next destination. It’s 5.3km from here, and it seems to take 8 minutes to get there. What? It says “Please do not park.” Where do I park? There’s no parking lot? Is it here? I’ll have to walk quite a bit. We arrived. This is a waterfall called “Kame no Taki”. It seems like there is a great waterfall, so I would like to go there. It seems that these three waterfalls are called “Kame no Taki”. If you want to go to this waterfall, you couldn’t park there, but it seems like there is a promenade from here. I’m here now, but from where I am now, it seems like I can only go as far as this square. So I’ll take a look and then go from here. First, I would like to go to see this “Hirataki”. It seems like it’s a 3-minute walk. It’s the rainy season and it’s been raining every day, so if it looks dangerous, I’ll turn back. It makes a really loud noise. I think there is a lot of water. It’s downhill, so it’s easy to go, but it’s going to be hard to go back. The water is really strong. Is it usually like this, or is it because of the rain? The wind is so strong! It feels like it’s completely affected by the rain. But the water isn’t very muddy. The river continues like this. There is only Hirataki over here. I’m back. It was quite hard. So, I walked along this road and headed towards the entrance from earlier. It’s a really old stone monument, “Kamen Yae Road” from 1901 (Meiji 31) . I walked about 100m from the parking lot. This is “Ototaki” (male waterfall), and this is the entrance to “Ototaki” and “Metaki”. I’m heading there. I think there’s a difference in elevation of over 100m before you get to the river, so I think it’ll be pretty tough on the way back. What’s this? There’s a building. Ah, it’s a toilet. There’s a promenade like this, so it’s pretty easy to walk. I think it’ll go all the way down to the bottom of the valley. This way… it looks like you can’t go. What do you mean, “looking for tenants”! Yes, this way. There are flat areas every few steps, so it doesn’t feel like a steep staircase. Brand new soil and sand are flowing down. There are a lot of falling rocks, so you should be careful. There are some pretty big rocks rolling around. I wonder if not many people come here? There is a new tea lying on the ground, but the expiration date is October 2021, and time has stopped. There is a big rockfall. It is also quite sharp, so it would be scary if it fell from above. Oh, there is a bridge. A big rock fell. There is a cone. I went down to the bridge. It seems that I used to be able to go down. The sidewalk continues all the way here, but I went under this bridge. Ah, but it seems that I can’t go there now. It has been swallowed up by nature. Amazing! A waterfall appeared on the right. This is amazing… it was much more amazing than I thought. It seems that I can get close to it, so I will go. There are crayfish walking. As expected, due to the rain, this road is submerged. Well, it seems that I can get there to this extent, but if it gets any worse, I will stop going. Yes, it looks like this. I don’t think there is usually water flowing here. It has become a river here. It rained a lot yesterday, but the water is not muddy at all. There is a building right there. What is it? By the way, it seems that you have to walk over here to get to the female waterfall. So this is the male waterfall. The road is completely submerged. I can’t get through. I think the water came up to here yesterday. It’s completely submerged. The bench is also submerged. Is this no good… can I cross? I somehow managed to cross this stone. The waterfall is right in front of me. It looks like this. If you’re close to the waterfall, there’s a huge sound and a blast of wind. So I went down a little. I think the drop is 36m, and it’s a 36m-class waterfall, which is one of the most amazing waterfalls I’ve ever seen. The rock surface around the waterfall is like columnar jointing. The pool is amazing. The force of the river’s flow is frightening. It’s amazing. I’d like to see the Metaki waterfall as well, but I’m also curious about this building. I wonder what it is. It’s an atmospheric place in many ways. It says “Fudoson is here,” so is there a Fudoson there? Oh, I see… this looks like a maintenance hut. Since I’m here, I’ll take a look at this Fudoson too. It’s really cold . What is this space… There’s graffiti that says “It was fun.” It’s not very nice. This is Fudoson. I wonder when it was built. The flowers on it are artificial. Even though they are artificial, they are still beautiful, so I think they are replaced regularly. It looks like this, so I’ll go. This is a mountain path. It has amazing momentum… It says that the Medaki waterfall is this way, but which one is the path? Does it mean I have to climb this? Is that right? This is… the whole area is green with moss. I think I can usually get to the front of the waterfall, but the water volume is so high that I don’t think I can go any further. I thought I could cross normally, but when I did, I slipped and my shoes got soaked. The path to the Medaki waterfall is covered with moss and is slippery, so I think it’s better to be careful. It might be better not to go the day after it rains. Now I’ll climb up this hellish staircase and go home. It’s hard… I sweated a lot. Kumamoto is known for its hot springs, so I came here to sweat so I could take a good hot spring bath. There is one more place I want to go, but it may be off-limits. For now, I’ll just head there and then go to take a bath in the hot spring from there. The weather is getting nice. But it’s forecast to rain today, so I think it will be cloudy or rainy soon. I’m back. Now, I’m heading to my next destination. It’s about 25km and 32 minutes from here. It seems to be a very mysterious place, but I don’t know if it’s open. So I’m going to see what it’s like. It seems to have collapsed due to the landslide, but it’s being rebuilt again. I’ve only seen photos of this area, but I think it’s a very mysterious place. It’s a shame that you can’t enter it at the moment, but I’m heading towards the hot springs. It was a bit disappointing, though. I personally think that it will definitely become a popular place. I came to this limestone cave called “Kyusendo” because I was curious. This is a village called “Kumamura” in Kumamoto Prefecture, and it seems to be a village of limestone caves. So it seems that there are many limestone caves around here, so I would like to see this limestone cave as well. It seems that there are a “general course” and an “adventure course” here. I wasn’t planning on going, but I’ll go. By the way, there is a building called the Edison Museum over there. I wonder if they sell outdoor goods here? There is a Mont-Bell inside. There is also a restaurant. The entrance to the limestone cave is here. This is the reception. The entrance to the cave is here. There is a very retro car parked there. It’s cold. It’s more cold than cool. “Now, let’s go on an underground exploration of 300 million years. ” Well, let’s head out right away. Oh… the lights are on. This time, I didn’t have much time, so I took the regular course. The regular course is 1100 yen per adult. The exploration course was 1900 yen, plus 800 yen. The course takes 60 minutes, and the regular course takes 30 minutes. I’m wearing short sleeves, is that okay? It’s really cold. This tunnel goes on and on, but it’s foggy. It seems that you have to wear a helmet on the exploration course. I can hear the sound of a waterfall. Amazing. Someone is throwing away a plastic bottle… cold! It’s pitch black… scary! Oh, I was surprised. I was surprised because I couldn’t see my feet. Water droplets are dripping from above. I took the wrong route, it was this way. Sorry. It looks like this inside. It’s so beautiful, so clear. It tickles your sense of adventure. It seems like you start climbing from here. It’s a waterfall. Oh, there it is! It’s Kumamon, a specialty of Kumamoto. It’s like this, it’s a little different from the caves I’ve been to so far. It feels like I’m in an underground empire. It’s amazing. It’s a stone pillar. It started to look like a cave from here. I thought it might be cold, but since I’m climbing, it’s just right. I heard a great sound. The sound alone is very powerful. The true identity of the sound was a rapids flowing at my feet. Plants can grow even in places like this. It looks like a rare stalactite. It seems that the ones that grow horizontally are called “heligtite” and the ones that grow upwards are called “heligmite”. I didn’t think I had gone that far, but it seems like I’ve already gone 500m. Amazing. I can’t go this way… can you see it? It looks like this inside. I want to go here, but I can’t. There were quite a few cars parked, but there’s no one there. I’m turning around. This is the road I came on the right. The color of this light creates an atmosphere. Oh, amazing! This is amazing! I think this is probably the best part. This is called the “junction of flowstone and stalagmite.” I could have gone here, but it’s flooded because of yesterday’s heavy rain. So, unfortunately, I can’t go today. It’s really a shame that I can’t see the best part. All that’s left is to go back the way I came, so that’s it. Where is the exploration course? Maybe it’s the exploration course ahead. It feels futuristic. Ah! There it is! That’s the exploration course. The exploration course starts from here. It seems like we’ll be climbing all the way up. Wine. The wine is stored here. It looks like a very old wine. I went back to the tunnel and went to Kyusendo Cave. It was lit up and it was a very mysterious space. Personally, I found the regular course a bit disappointing. If you like caves, I recommend the exploration course. There is a JAF discount, so I was able to enter for 1050 yen instead of 1100 yen. We arrived. This is Hitoyoshi Onsen’s “Iyashi no Mori” family bath. Since it’s Kumamoto, there is a Kumamon. The bathroom looks like this, and you can choose. There are 20 rooms in total. The cheapest room is 1680 yen, or 2380 yen including tax. The most expensive room is 2680 yen including tax , but I was wrong, it seems to be the price for 60 minutes and 90 minutes. So the cheapest room is 1680 yen, and 90 minutes is 2380 yen. It’s raining a lot. This is room number 14, “Gongenyama”. It looks like this. There is an air conditioner. The changing room is quite spacious. There is a room panel at the reception desk, and a magnetic type timer is attached to the panel. The room with the timer is the one in use, so choose a room without a timer. The system was that you pay at the ticket machine. The spring quality is carbonate chloride spring. The spring temperature is 47.3 degrees. It’s very muggy, so I’ll turn on the air conditioner. The bathroom looks like this. First of all, the smell of the hot spring when you get in is irresistible. Shampoo and body soap are provided. This room does not have an open-air bath. It will be the cheapest room at 1680 yen. It’s raining very hard, so I decided not to go for the open-air bath. This shower is very slimy and smells of iron, so I think it is also a hot spring. Let’s go in. It’s a little lukewarm. Maybe the previous customer made the water lukewarm. The water coming out of here is quite hot. I think it’s 47 degrees as written. It seems that you can adjust the temperature by adding water here. It’s a kind of thick spring quality that makes your skin feel slimy. After about 10 minutes, the water started to get quite hot. It’s getting hotter, so I’ll add more water. It’s getting stronger. It feels just right. It’s getting dark outside and the atmosphere is getting better. It’s cool. This is just a garden. It’s raining a lot. I wonder when it will stop… I took a bath. This room is so cool. The water was really good. My body is warm too. Now I’d like to go out. It’s still raining heavily. Looks delicious. This is a delivery container and it seems I have to return it. I went to the hot spring, but I got soaked… My body smells like hot spring. It’s raining a lot… It doesn’t seem like it will stop. I’ll look for a place where I can sleep in my car. This time I went around the magnificent scenery of the southernmost part of Kumamoto Prefecture and took a bath in a hot spring. What did you think? There are no bears in Kyushu, so why don’t you visit it too? See you in the next video! Thank you for watching until the end.

  16. Hello from New York City thank you again so many hidden beautiful things in Japan that you bring us to things I will never say!!
Thank you so much, but I worry about you being careful !

  17. Kaname Falls are beautiful in the drone shots, as do the moss covered boulders.
Is it Medaki Falls at 19:28? Looks stunning in the drone shots. The caves are nicely lit with different colours & surprising to see wine stored there!

  19. Thank you for sharing your adventures and braving the wet feet, the waterfalls were powerful and beautiful after the rain,. The hot spring bath whilst watching the rain fall outside must have been pleasing.

  24. Hi and greetings from Australia. Enjoy all of your videos and the very exciting places you take us. I’ve just finished my fourth visit to Japan. Next time I’ll be sure to visit some of your highlights. Cheers. Warwick

  25. That hidden path and waterfall view is amazing!
I always wondering, can you take a bath in the waterfall? (If its not dangerous and during rainy season) I like waterfall, sometimes it makes me want to take a little dip in the water.
