Hi everyone, I’m Adventurer P. In this episode, we will depart from Kyoto to Wakayama City, and then we will take the Tama Electric Train to find Tama Station Master! How to take the Tama Electric Train? What attractions are worth visiting along the way ? Let’s explore together . Then we will take you to the Kisai Temple with a history of more than 1,000 years. Here, in addition to appreciating this beautiful temple, you can also overlook Wakayama City. Finally, of course, we have not forgotten Wakayama Castle, which is located on Mount Toraba and has guarded the Kishu Domain for 500 years. What kind of stories and scenery will it bring us? Let’s quickly follow the Adventure Pig to start today’s journey! Adventure Pig departs from Kyoto and will transfer at Tennoji in Osaka. In fact, there are many choices of trains from Kyoto to Osaka . Because Adventure Pig departs at 7:13 in the morning, he takes the Haruka bus to Kansai Airport and arrives at Tennoji at 8:08. If you take the Kishuro Rapid, you don’t need to reserve seats. I would like to remind you that the front and rear carriages of the Kishuro Rapid will be separated at Hineno Station. When you get on the train, please check the screen on the train to avoid accidentally taking the train to the airport. This is my own painful experience. The elevator at Wakayama Station is very difficult to find. At that time, I thought there was no elevator, so I carried my luggage up the stairs . Later, I checked on the Internet and found that the elevator was in a corner. If you carry luggage, you can take the elevator instead of being stupid and climbing stairs like Adventure Pig. Then we finally arrived in Wakayama City. Next to Wakayama Station is MIO Department Store and underground restaurants. Of course, there are also places to store luggage , and there are quite a few luggage lockers. So we are going to take the Kodama Electric Train. Back to Wakayama JR Station, walk to the left facing the railway, go down the underground passage to Platform 9, which is the exclusive train platform for Kodama Electric Train . Adventure Pig is in KK It is very cheap to buy a one-day ticket for Tama tram on DAY. It is only 167 Taiwan dollars. After showing the electronic ticket page to the station staff, you can exchange it for a physical one-day ticket . Finally, I saw the long-awaited Tama tram~ The Kishigawa Line tram with a cat as the stationmaster has a total of six trams with different patterns. Each model has only two carriages. This time, the adventure pig has ridden a total of three different trams . Now we are looking at the tram with the theme of the famous KOL “Tama Stationmaster” in the tram industry-Tama. The interior of the carriage, from the walls of the carriage to the seat cushions , are all designed with the appearance of the stationmaster Tama. In addition to Tama’s cute paintings hanging on the walls, there are also special books placed inside the Tama. The stationmaster of Ita-kiso Shrine is Yotsuya. Because we arrived early, the stationmaster has not started work yet. After all, Kishi Railway is a happy enterprise, and the stationmaster cannot be overworked. Ita-kiso Shrine – this ancient shrine was founded too long ago , and the actual founding time is uncertain. It is estimated that it has a history of about 1,300 years. The main deity enshrined in this shrine is “50 Takemei”. 50 Takemei is in Japanese history books – According to the Japanese Shoki, he spread the seeds of trees all over Japan in ancient times, so he is also called the God of Trees. In addition, in another historical book, Kojiki, it is recorded that he once saved the life of another god, “Okuninushi”. Therefore, in addition to blessing everyone’s business and company to be as prosperous as trees, he is also very effective in helping everyone get rid of disasters and misfortunes. As soon as you enter the shrine, you can see a small piece of the thousand-year-old sacred tree. Because in the 30th year of Showa, this sacred tree was hit by lightning. The trunk of this sacred tree is preserved in the main hall. If you come here If you want to go to the temple, you can go around the tree hole that once saved the life of Okuninushi and experience it. In ancient times, Wakayama was called Kii Province Itaikiso Shrine. Together with the other two shrines , Nichimae Jingu Shrine and Kunikage Jingu Shrine, these three shrines were merged into “Kii Province Ichinomiya Shrine” , which is the most prestigious shrine in Wakayama. For those who are interested in Japanese history or shrine culture, you can take the Kodama tram to the other two shrines. Get off at Nichimae Jingu Shrine and walk for about 5 minutes to reach the Itaikiso Shrine. There is a 6th-century tumulus next to the Itaikiso Shrine. The owner of the tumulus is unknown. It was from the 3rd to the 6th century in Japan . The royal family and nobles began to build a large number of huge tombs. Each tomb was like a hill. The higher the level of the nobles, the bigger the hill. This period was called the Kofun Period. The largest Kofun was the Daisen-ryo Kofun in Osaka. It was said to be the tomb of Emperor Nintoku. The hill we see now should also be the tomb of an unknown noble family in ancient Kii Province. The sarcophagi inside are still there. Let’s go back to the station. This time we changed to the Strawberry Train and arrived at Kishi Station in a short time. Let’s quickly meet the stationmaster Xiaoyu . I don’t know if the stationmaster is disturbed by too many people every day. He has no feelings in front of the camera and shows a world-weary expression, but he is still very lovely. I am not a cat lover. After all, my favorite is still the pig. But when I saw the real Stationmaster Tama, I was still shocked by his cuteness . He was taken care of very well. Look at how beautiful his fur is. Of course, we have not forgotten the first generation of Stationmaster Tama . The first generation of Stationmaster also has a dedicated memorial cabinet~the eternal honorary stationmaster. And when you come to Kishi Station, don’t forget to visit the Tama Shrine next to the platform. The first generation of Stationmaster Tama, who has become an angel, has been named “Tama Daimyojin”. Indeed, the Kishi Line, which was originally facing suspension due to long-term losses, has now become a popular tourist train with the blessing of Stationmaster Tama and the efforts of local residents ~ It is not an exaggeration to say that Kodama Daimyojin is the savior of the Kishi Line. It is rare to come to Kishi Station , so let’s take a slow walk to the nearby Okuninushi Shrine. The shrine is right next to the Kishi River in front of us. In ancient times, there was a deep pool here called Kuninushi-fuchi. It is said that in ancient times, there was a tradition of sacrificing living people . The Okuninushi Shrine feels a bit deserted and there is no staff in the management office (but the official IG is always maintained). When you hear Okuninushi, do you feel a little familiar ? Yes~ Just now when we were at Idaiki-so Shrine, we mentioned that the main deity of Idaiki-so Shrine, 50 Takemei, once saved Okuninushi’s life. At that time, Okuninushi came to ancient Wakayama to find 50 Takemei and ask him for help . Therefore, Okuninushi once stayed here. It was this fate that led to the establishment of Okuninushi Shrine. In addition, the Kagura-den in front of us was a building built in the Edo period and has been designated as a cultural property In the past, important festivals of the Kii Domain were held here. Finally, we returned to Kishi Station. Adventure Pig wanted to purchase the peripheral products of Stationmaster Kodama. Each one was super cute. I really admired the efforts of the Japanese in developing local tourism. In addition to the Kodama peripheral store, there is also Stationmaster Kodama’s cafe next to it where you can sit down and rest. The atmosphere is very good. If you come here, you can also buy a few products to take home. In addition to adding some souvenirs to your own travel, it can also help the development of local tourism. The train back to JR Wakayama Station is the “Umegan-go”. It is true that every train I take from morning to now is different~ Although the hardware specifications inside are the same , the decorative fabrics are all matched with the special design of each train. I wonder if someone came here specifically to ride all 6 different trains. We will return to Wakayama Station and prepare to take the JR Kisei Main Line to Kisiidera Station. After arriving at the station, You can see Ki-Sanji Temple on the mountain from the platform. It takes about 7 minutes to walk to the foot of Ki-Sanji Temple. When I saw this old house along the way, my food radar suddenly started to react . I checked and found that it was a very popular local bakery~ The shop closed after it was sold out, so it was a pity that I didn’t buy any. I saw on the Internet that it was more likely to buy bread if you came before 12:00 noon. There are some very simple shops on both sides of the approach road here, which have a unique flavor. You can take the cable car and elevator to the mountain. The adventure pig didn’t want to climb the stairs at all . It was tiring to climb up the mountain, and it hurts your knees to walk down the mountain. Let’s spend 800 yen to take the cable car up the mountain~ Kissin Temple is a very beautiful temple. You can see many statues of Guanyin along the way , and you can know that this is a temple with a close relationship with Guanyin. Kissin Temple was built in the Nara period about 1,250 years ago. At that time, there was a monk in China’s Tang Dynasty named Weiguang Shangren who crossed the sea to Japan to spread Buddhism and preached among Japanese countries. When he arrived in Wakayama, he rested at Meikusa Mountain. Suddenly, he saw the current Kissin Temple in the middle of the night. A flash of light appeared here, and Weiguang Shangren sensed it at that time. The Thousand-armed Guanyin statue was carved here, so the Thousand-armed Guanyin wooden statue was carved here and the Kisui Temple was built. Later, successive emperors and successive lords of the Kishu domain came to the Kisui Temple to worship , which established the important position of the Kisui Temple in the Buddhist world in Wakayama. The two national treasures of the Thousand-armed Guanyin statues here are open to the public every 50 years. The other three statues can be visited at any time for 500 yen. There are also many buildings worth seeing built more than 400 years ago in the temple, such as the main hall, the gate, or the multi-treasure tower. Adventure Pig thinks that whether you believe in Buddhism or not, the Kisui Temple is a place with beautiful scenery. The red buildings also have a special flavor. The view from here overlooking the city at the foot of the mountain is refreshing. It is also a holy place for viewing cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves in autumn . It is about 30 minutes by tram from Wakayama City Station . We arrived at Wakayama The moat of the mountain castle~ Sometimes I feel that the changes of the times are really a magical thing. Until the Edo period, only the lords and samurai could enter and exit the city wall. Now it has become a huge park where local grandpas and grandmas come here every day for exercise and walking. Even adventure pigs from abroad can come here to stroll . If you come on weekends, you can take a cruise on the moat~ The price on the official website has increased to 1,000 yen per adult. The official activities of Wakayama Castle are actually quite diverse. If you apply in advance (the application form is available on the official website), you can also have a ninja accompany you on a guided tour of Wakayama Castle. In addition, Wakayama Castle also has a zoo and a teahouse, Hongshoan, where you can experience the tea ceremony. Almost every month, Wakayama Castle will hold exhibitions or various cultural experience activities from time to time. Interested friends can directly check the official website~ The castle tower of Wakayama Castle is built on Mount Torabasu. Therefore, Wakayama The castle is also known as Torabashi Castle. Let’s start climbing. Almost all castles in Japan, except for a few castles like Matsuyama Castle that have cable cars, require climbing. Finally, we have climbed halfway, and there is still half to go. The castle tower is really big when viewed from the side. Although it was burned down during the Wakayama air raid during the war , it was rebuilt in 1957. What we see now is the Wakayama Castle Tower. Before entering the castle , the adventure pig was really exhausted, so we took a rest in the teahouse next to it. I recommend everyone to eat it. This orange jam fresh milk soft serve ice cream is really amazing. At the moment, I am considering whether to eat the second one. The adventure pig also had very bad orange jam ice cream in other castles (sorry to say which castle), but the one sold in Wakayama Castle is really delicious. Let’s prepare to enter the castle tower for a visit . Through the main gate of the castle tower- After the Ninomon Tower , you will enter the castle tower. The castle tower of Wakayama Castle is now a museum that displays the clothes worn by military commanders during the Warring States Period and the equipment used by the lord of Kishu Domain during the Edo Period to perform sankin-kotai in Edo. It also introduces modern Wakayama celebrities. Let’s take a look at these exhibits while briefly understanding the history of Wakayama Castle. During the Warring States Period, Wakayama did not have its own daimyo like Oda Nobunaga of Owari or Takeda Shingen of Kai. Instead, it was a mercenary group headed by the strong “Sagashu” that protected the Kii Province. However, in 1585, At that time, Toyotomi Hideyoshi pacified Kishu and appointed his younger brother Toyotomi Hidenaga to build a castle on Torabashiyama. Then he ordered his retainer Kuwayama Shigeharu to take charge of Wakayama Castle, so this was the starting point of Wakayama Castle. In 1600, after the Toyotomi forces were defeated by the Tokugawa family in the Battle of Sekigahara, Asano Yukinaga became the new generation of Wakayama Castle lord and expanded the Honmaru, Ninomaru and Nishinomaru , and prepared the castle town. Then, after entering the Edo period, the Tokugawa family took over Wakayama Castle and officially governed the Kishu domain until before the Meiji era. In this way, Wakayama was not a place where wars frequently occurred from the Warring States period to the Edo period . This was because generations of people had been However, this does not mean that there are no powerful people in Wakayama. In 1686, in the early Edo period, a “master of bows” appeared in Wakayama. At the age of 24, he participated in the archery competition of Kyoto Sansangen-do. In one night, he shot a total of 13,053 arrows (9 arrows per minute on average). The number of arrows that hit the target was 8,133. This record is the highest in history and no one has been able to break the record since then. It is almost five o’clock in the afternoon. It is getting dark, so let’s get ready to go back to the hotel. Finally, Adventure Pig will quickly introduce the hotels near Wakayama Station and the accommodation. There is a MIO department store next to the station . You can buy famous Wakayama souvenirs at the Kuroshio Market souvenir shop here. If Adventure Pig’s suitcase was not about to explode, I would have wanted to take the Yuasa soy sauce home. Wakayama is also a city rich in seafood, so I have to try the anchovy rice bowl and fried seafood tempura here if I have the chance. There are also several commercial hotels to choose from nearby. Adventure Pig stayed at the Granvia Hotel next to the station. Japanese business hotels are comfortable, clean and convenient. In addition, Adventure Pig himself feels that the people of Wakayama are particularly friendly. I like it here very much . I will definitely come to Wakayama for a trip again. Thank you for reading to the end. See you next time. Bye.
