Hello everyone! I’m Naru! Today we’ve come to one of Japan’s premier mountain scenic spots Kamikochi in Nagano Prefecture! Kamikochi is located in the Chushin area of Nagano Prefecture within the Chubu Sangaku National Park! It’s located about 40km west of Matsumoto City! Kamikochi is situated at an elevation of 1,500m Designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and Special Natural Monument! The main attractions of Kamikochi are the clear stream reflecting the majestic Hotaka mountain range Kappa Bridge spanning the Azusa River Taisho Pond, which was formed in 1915 when the Azusa River was dammed by the eruption of Mt. Yakedake And the sacred Myojin Pond within the grounds of Hotaka Shrine’s inner sanctuary While touring these famous spots I’ll bring you the spectacular views of the Japanese Alps!! About access! About access! Private cars are restricted in Kamikochi so you cannot drive directly there!! If coming by car, park at “Sawando” on the Nagano side or at “Hirayu” on the Gifu side! From either parking area you’ll need to transfer to a shuttle bus to reach Kamikochi! If using public transportation there are 2 direct buses per day from Matsumoto Station to Kamikochi! Matsumoto Station → Shin-Shimashima Station → Transfer to bus “To Kamikochi” Buses from Shin-Shimashima Station run more frequently but require a transfer! Buses from both Matsumoto and Shin-Shimashima require reservations From Takayama Takayama Station → Hirayu Bus Terminal
→ Transfer to bus “To Kamikochi” From Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka there are direct highway bus services Very convenient with no transfers needed! About the courses! About the courses in Kamikochi! Shuttle buses operate within Kamikochi stopping at Taisho Pond, Imperial Hotel, and Kamikochi Bus Terminal! Using these bus stops as starting points you can enjoy various trekking courses This time we started trekking from Taisho Pond and headed to Kappa Bridge via Tashiro Pond! From Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge takes about 1 hour Then we headed to another main spot in Kamikochi Myojin Pond! Since there’s no bus stop at Myojin Pond From Kappa Bridge to Myojin Pond: about 1 hour on foot To Myojin Pond there are two routes: the right bank trail and left bank trail of the Azusa River! The right bank trail passes through “Dakesawa Wetland” with numerous spectacular viewpoints!! There was a long line to buy bus tickets!! Bus fare
Round trip ¥2,800 Getting off at Taisho Pond bus stop We’ve arrived at Taisho Pond! This is Taisho Pond! Taisho Pond was formed when the Azusa River was dammed by the eruption of Mt. Yakedake! Mt. Yakedake is still actively erupting! How mysterious! Behind me you can see the Hotaka mountains too! So cool! There’s not much snow left! It’s mostly melted The water level in Taisho Pond seems really high at this time of year! With the mist hanging over it it’s so mystical! There are ducks in Kamikochi! So cute! The greenery is beautiful and the river is incredibly clear These ducks living here wouldn’t be able to live in other rivers, would they? Once they’ve lived in such a beautiful river they couldn’t go to other rivers! What spoiled ducks! (laughs) First monkey sighting! We encountered them just before Kappa Bridge! Amazing amazing amazing amazing They’re playing! They’re really playing! Scary! That was scary! They’re scary after all Wild animals are frightening Everyone please be careful! The Hotaka mountains with azaleas and these white flowers? It’s incredibly beautiful here! It doesn’t look like Kamikochi What? A view I didn’t know Kamikochi had! That’s true! We usually went before Golden Week Right right right! At that time this area would be more brown with snow on the mountains No flowers blooming at all Ah, the mountains are the main focus The mountains become the main attraction So this is like Paradise A hidden paradise! So much green There’s a lot of water That’s true This season is great too! You’re getting excited! Tashiro Pond used to be 5 meters deep long ago! Really? 5 meters? That’s not a wetland anymore Apparently boats used to float here Is that so! That’s what the sign said! (laughs) So it’s gradually disappearing? The mountains are beautiful too! There’s still so much snow up there! The view in front of Kamikochi Onsen Hotel and Lemeiesta Hotel This is one of my top favorite views in Kamikochi! Really! Mt. Roppyaku and Mt. Kasumizawa and the Azusa River and trees all at once It’s so beautiful! But compared to spring the grass is so lush The trees! The trees! The trees are so lush! So green! Incredibly green! That’s also wonderful! The vegetation is really thriving You can feel the life force! I could relax here forever! I want to sleep So beautiful Oh! Look! C-could that be!! You know what it is Isn’t that Walter Weston’s monument? You know it! Oh! Could that really be? You know it! British missionary
Called the “Father of Modern Mountaineering in Japan” Before Weston came, Japanese mountaineering in the Edo period mountains weren’t for enjoyment! They were sacred, fearsome places or places for training But when Weston came to Japan everything changed! He brought Western “recreational mountaineering” Not for training but mountaineering for enjoyment He brought that concept! Furthermore, Weston published various books introducing Japan’s mountains to the world! There, Weston had a fateful encounter! In Kamikochi In Kamikochi he met “Kamijo Kamonji” Kamijo Kamonji was Weston’s mountain guide when climbing the Alps and other mountains Their friendship apparently lasted forever Through the trees, you can see Kamikochi Bus Terminal! (laughs) First built in 1891 The current bridge is the 5th generation built in 1997 “Kappa Bridge” spans the Azusa River at 1,500m elevation – Kamikochi’s iconic wooden suspension bridge! From the bridge you can see the majestic Hotaka range and Mt. Yakedake and the beautiful flow of the Azusa River Known as the setting for Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s novel “Kappa” It’s an excellent viewpoint! This is THE mountain resort scenery!! Let’s go to Dakesawa Wetland! Then let’s head to Myojin! The wetland is beautiful♪ Let’s enjoy more forest walking! Yes! The area around Kappa Bridge is crowded! There are restaurants too, so it’s lively! We’ve come to Dakesawa Wetland! This is a beautiful spot! Beautiful! This place really is! These trees are nice♪ The slightly withered trees Yes! With fresh greenery too! They have character! How should I say it? How should I say it? I feel the atmosphere Loneliness and With the fresh greenery Death and birth Death and rebirth Beautiful! Why is it so blue? I can see Mt. Myojin! Built by Kamijo Kamonji mountain guide to Walter Weston, Father of Modern Mountaineering This historic mountain hut stands by Myojin Pond! You can enjoy their famous char fish grilled slowly over a hearth! Itadakimasu! The long-awaited char fish! Char fish, nice! Itadakimasu! The salt is perfectly seasoned! Itadakimasu! Mmm! Delicious! It’s fluffy and the salt seasoning is perfect!! I’ve wanted to eat this for so long I’m so happy to finally have it♪ Delicious!! The noodles are quite firm Delicious♪ Very firm! And this broth is somehow different Is this bonito? Doesn’t it taste fishy? I don’t know but Maybe char fish? Hmm maybe It’s delicious! Unusual taste! The char fish is delicious and everything is delicious♪ This atmosphere is nice♪ It feels old-fashioned! It’s the mountain hut opened by Kamijo Kamonji, Walter Weston’s mountain guide! The person from earlier? A shop with cute lamps♪ Itadakimasu! It’s jiggly and crispy! Mmm!! It’s smooth and the sugar caramel part is crispy So delicious♪ Delicious!! I was really tired until now Actually… (laughs) Actually I don’t think you noticed I noticed… You said you couldn’t eat But now I feel energized!! After eating something sweet Delicious!! The caramel cheesecake was delicious too♪ Myojin Pond has First Pond and Second Pond! Myojin Pond is famous as a pond that doesn’t freeze Why doesn’t it freeze? Of course! Masa, you must know, right? What!? Isn’t it that? Maybe that guy from Lake Towada was here? Who was it? Maybe Taro was here? Hachiro Taro? Lake Towada’s Taro was here He came here? Yes! That’s why it doesn’t freeze even below zero There’s still more path beyond Second Pond! This river flow is the spring water coming from Myojin Pond! It was so calm there but suddenly it’s flowing rapidly! I didn’t know this place existed! I didn’t know either! It’s worth coming all the way! It’s so cool! The coolest today! So beautiful! The water is clear I really like fast-flowing water like this! Heading to Myojin! There are mountain huts and toilets at Myojin! Walking about 1 hour back to the Kappa Bridge area! The view from the campground is also amazing!! Founded in 1927 Starting from its predecessor Marunishi Restaurant “Shirakaba”
“Kamikochi Hotel Shirakaba-so” is a long-established hotel located at the foot of Kappa Bridge with spectacular views of the Hotaka mountain range! Ah! Here it is! This is it! 205! There’s a partition! Wow! Cute! What a cute room! Really! And Wow! This is the best! The best view! Look! It’s the best! This is amazing! This is Kamikochi!! Really amazing! Hotaka is right in front of us! Even though we’re inside, it feels like we’re outside!! There’s a refrigerator too! There was free chocolate inside! And water! Hard to believe this is a 1,500m mountain! What makes me really happy is Power outlets! There are power outlets by the pillow Four of them! There are some on that side too! We can charge everything! (laughs) And it’s tatami Easy to walk on♪ My feet don’t hurt! My tired feet feel relieved! There were yukatas too! The yukatas have kappa drawings on them! Two kappa are talking! Cute yukatas! Nature guide? Walking Kamikochi with a guide! They seem to offer various guided tours! There’s room service too! There’s Wi-Fi They’ll even bring Mont Blanc!! There’s Wi-Fi They have lunch boxes too! Lunch boxes require reservation! Evenings have fewer people and are nice for walking! Dinner at the restaurant! Shinshu salmon tartare? That must be delicious! It doesn’t really look like tartare though… A refreshing sauce! Delicious! Light and delicious! The Shinshu salmon tartare doesn’t mean tartar sauce!! It’s not the tartare we know! It’s a different tartare! How embarrassing!! I thought it was tartar sauce! I guess this type of dish is called tartare? A dish of finely chopped raw ingredients mixed with seasonings Is it tender? It’s tender and perfectly salted! It’s not too oily either I could eat this easily! It goes well with this sauce!! Delicious!! The wasabi pickled nozawana is delicious! It goes so well with the meat! Delicious!! I might like this better than the sauce! The dessert was delicious too♪ The morning view of Hotaka is beautiful too! Yeah! The view from Kappa Bridge is always great! The sun is coming out a bit with a little mist It feels like morning! So refreshing! This cool morning air is nice! The perfect start to the day!! The morning Dakesawa Wetland is a must-see!! Breakfast on the terrace! Steamed vegetables! It automatically toasts the bread!! Made by Masa Made by Naru Itadakimasu! Poached egg! No wait! Eggs Benedict! Looks so delicious! They torched it right there! Looks amazing!! Delicious!! Delicious!! Is there cheese in it? It’s cheese This! Cheese and egg and Salmon Delicious!! Delicious!! It has a refreshing taste! It’s quite salty! Maybe from the salmon! The saltiness is perfect and delicious!! The perfect start to the morning♪ The weather is nice! Isn’t the view from here amazing? With Hotaka in the background!! The best!! We could eat inside too but eating outside in this fresh air is nice♪ I’d choose to eat outside!! We thoroughly enjoyed our hotel stay!! The hotel was really great! Let’s walk along the Azusa River again and go to the Imperial Hotel! Imperial Hotel? I heard we can have cake there Oh really! Let’s grab some before heading back♪ It’s cool today! Cooler than yesterday It’s 25 degrees at 10 o’clock! Is that cool? Probably… It’s Saturday so there are many people! There was nobody this morning! At this time there are so many people!! Let’s walk along this stream! The luxurious interior and stylish people made me nervous Different? It’s so delicious! こんばんは😊今回は上高地ですか。私達夫妻も大好きな場所です。五千尺ホテルに泊まったら、夕方スイスホルンを川辺で練習している人がいて、静かに山に音が溶けていくのを感動して見たことを思い出しました。
嘉門次小屋のイワナ、芸術的に並べて焼いていますよね。あーまた行きたくなりました。ただ、最近股関節や膝の状態が悪くなってきたので、今までのようには歩けないかもしれません。
その分、、なるまさトラベル、楽しみにしています。
そうそう、青森ですが、三内丸山遺跡や環状列石に、縄文のロマンを感じましたよ😊興味がおありだったら、また訪れてみてくださいね。

今まで2度行きましたが、なるちゃんが産まれる遥か前で、今のバスターミナル辺りまでマイカー🚗💨で行く事が出来ましたし、河童橋の幅も狭かった様な気がします。
その頃と梓川の澄んだ綺麗さだけは変わらないですね。

上高地（神降地）、本当に良い所ですよね。四季折々変化もあるし、雨漏りする片側交互通行で、冬にはトンネル内部が凍りつくので、冷気が入りにくいよう、入り口に厚手のビニールシートが掛けられていた釜トンネルが、2車線の新釜トンネルになり、上高地トンネルも造られアクセスが良くなり、穂高連峰の登山基地で、旧ターミナルの2階が食堂で、屋上に上がれば穂高連峰が綺麗に見えた時代から、山岳リゾートに急速に変化し、厳冬期を除くと観光客が爆増しています。
白黒写真の時代では、大正池には北海道の青い池の様に、立木がたくさん映っていましたが、私が初めて行った35年前でも、流石に奥の方に少し見られるだけでした。そういう事を除くと、上高地の自然はほぼ変わっていない気がします。
Wow, it looks so magical! I want to visit someday. I don't know if there's a better time to go since I have a hard time with humidity. Thank you for sharing because I love nature and love how you show parts of Japan that aren't packed with tourists. I'm aware that some major places in Japan have to deal with over-tourism and I want to avoid super crowded places. 🙂

上高地キター！一度行きたい場所だったのでありがたい。穂高の景色は最高ですね。そしてホテルの朝食で食べてたエッグベネディクト🍳がまた美味しそう！テラスからの穂高連峰をバッグに朝陽を浴びながらの朝ごはん。最高のシチュエーションでした👏

雲が多く穂高の頂は見れませんでしたが🥲
晴れていて景色が綺麗ですね！私は初めての上高地訪問でしたが他の季節にも訪れたいと思いました⛰️

日本とは思えない景観。本当に一度行ってみたいと思いました。

上高地は登山の入口でもあり、リゾートとしても最高の場所ですよね〜
自分も今年は6/21に行きましたよ！
去年、白樺荘で働いていたのでなるさんに紹介してもらい何だか嬉しい気持ちになりました(*^^*)

僕は、北ア縦走のときに帰路で槍ヶ岳から上高地を通っただけで、バスの時間もありゆっくりしたことがありませんでした😅

なるさん、こんにちは😊ホテルの部屋からの「ここ上高地だよ！」に、さっきからずぅっと上高地だよー！と1人で爆笑してしまいました。それくらい景色に感動したってことですよね✨私は沢渡の近くに長く住んでいたのに、学校遠足以外で上高地に行ったことがないのです😱今は松本から少し離れてしまったのですが、家族で歩きに行きたいです♪沢渡駐車場に停めて、駐車場からのバスで教えて欲しいのですが👏チケットはその場で買うのでしょうか？予約とか必要ですか？
아! 나가노로 이사가고 싶다.
弟と上高地起点に槍ヶ岳を登頂、南岳で天幕し翌日は大キレットを経て奥穂高岳へ。
ここで天幕の予定でしたが時間に余裕があり、前穂高から岳沢を一気に下りかっぱ橋を渡って五千尺のレストランでジョッキビールを一気飲み。もう40年近い時が流れていきました。
今では冬、誰もいないかっぱ橋目指してスノーハイクで歩いています。
大阪からマイカーで行くにはアカンダナでは無く平湯なんですか？
7年ぶりに7/18-22まで韓国から遠征で行く予定です。ワクワクしています。たのしみです。成田からレンタカーで行きます。😊
