世界遺産・白川郷を探検!|日本で最も美しい村ガイド✨
if you guess in last week’s video that I would be visiting shirakawago next you would be correct I’ve traveled even deeper into the countryside of guu prefecture to explore this gorgeous idyllic Countryside Village looks like a page out of a story book shakago is known worldwide for its status as a world heritage site so today I’m going to be exploring this beautiful little village and giving you a bit of a food guide for this area before we go don’t forget to subscribe for more Japan Adventures like this one and hit that notification Bell so you know exactly when a new video comes out all right let’s go explore [Music] Chino the view from up here is incredible this has to be one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited and I’ve been to a lot of places in Japan this is a mustsee shakago is a village known for its breathtaking triangular thatch trof buildings known as Gus show style meaning praying hands because of the pointed shape of the roofs they look like two hands praying and the village here in shiak kawago and those in the surrounding gokayama area have existed since the 11th century both districts were registered as UNESCO world heritage sites in 1995 I’m starting my day here at the observation deck on the top of this little mountain that has an incredible view of shaag but I’m going to head back down the mountain to get an early start on the food because a lot of the cafes here actually close pretty early so keep that in mind I’m going to go and have an early lunch let’s go explore here we are now at our lunch spot for today this is a restaurant called kayaki and it’s a great place to try some local pork of the region here in shirakawago it’s known for a local brand of fork called yui umaa and the reason why it’s called this name particular is because UI is a word that’s quite symbolic of this region it means to join together in this area it snows quite a lot in the winter so the locals often had to work together to help each other out and that’s why yui or joining together is a very valuable part of the culture so they include that in the name of the dish supposed to be really tasty so let’s go inside and try the local pork there’s so much green outside the window it feels very useful they have this really delicious looking Rice Bowl called D buy and it’s top with a yui Uma pork roasted yui Uma pork they also have a beer and finger food set which comes with chashu pork I love beer and I like trying the local stuff this looks so good oh my gosh perfect combination perfect lunch the beer looks super good I’m actually surprised how light of a color it is it looks like a white beer which is fitting because sh kaag the Sha actually means white let’s give it a try come by [Music] M ooh that’s really good very light and refreshing but not as sweet as I was expecting it to be let’s try it with the chashu pork that they serve on the side ooh just perfectly grilled pork belly M I’m just thick and Meaty love the little bits of like Smoky crispy bits on the side very tasty I think it’s a good side dish for some beer let’s try the main dish though all right I’m going to try a bite of the D buy The Rice Bowl with first one of these small chunks of pork cuz it looks really easy to eat with the rice let’s give it a taste M the pork is so juicy that one little cube of pork it’s got so much flavor in it a little bit of smokiness on the outside juicy um just juicy fat um in the layers in the inside that gives it a lot of flavor really tasty the rice is also really good it has some sort of sauce on it it’s a little bit salty and sweet let’s take this one big bite here we go that was the perfect bite the chashu pork is so good it’s so flavorful it goes well with the rice it has that kind of salty sweet flavor to it and that little hint of like the the carrots and the birdog perfect this is a delicious one I’m going to be very satisfied today excellent and this view lunch with the view doesn’t get better than [Music] that despite the many changes and challenges that came post World War II economically these culturally significant homes were able to stand the test of time but in the 1970s people started to worry that these houses were not going to last forever and in 1971 they decided to create the three principles of do not sell do not rent and do not destroy when it comes to all of the houses in this region thanks to that they were able to preserve all of these houses even until today without having changed them for over 200 years and it truly is a testament to the cooperation of the people here the love they have for this Village and also it’s just the perfect glimpse into how people lived in the countryside in Japan hundreds of years ago this particular shape is very important in preventing the large amounts of snow that they have in this region from gathering on the top and weighing down the house in order to make these incredible thatched roofs it takes a lot of time a lot of effort and it’s supposed to require at least the work of 200 villagers back in the day and they’ve been building these for over 200 years so this is a really cool little part of history and local culture this is such a beautiful little food stand it’s also a house but they have a sign here here and the grilled rice ball looks really delicious and what’s kind of drawing me to this it’s called satto Musubi which means like Hometown rice ball and it says it’s the taste of your mother’s cooking this one is really cute it’s called Chach Chan’s special miso and they also use 100% local shakago produced rice there are rice patties everywhere in this town so I’m going to give this a try this is also really creative they’re using a log and they filled it with wood and they’ve turned it into a fountain tend to keep their drinks cool I’m really curious about this this looks like a apple juice made with hea regions apples I think I’m going to have to give this a try can’t wait to try this let’s have a seat on the bench I’ve got my local Apple Juice this looks so refreshing so let’s give it a taste M it just tastes like a fresh gently sweet like pure apple juice it’s so good now let’s try the grilled rice ball it is piping hot the miso paste looks incredible this is chica’s homemade miso sweet and salty it’s definitely the saltiness of the Miso pay and sugar added and they’ve grilled it up the rice is also really fluffy it’s got some sesame seeds in there and apparently this is the Taste of Home in shaag let’s walk around a little bit more and I’ll see if I can find any other little Street snacks in this town see you guys at the next one looks like there is a little ice cream shop here but I also see a Siggy demo and it’s a symbol that there is sake sold here and I keep seeing this word called Dooku this seems to be a local sake but they seem to have an ice cream that uses the dook Kus sake I think we need to give this a try [Music] so you can get one of these in a take home Sak Masa cup but I decided to just get the cone today let’s give it a taste it tastes really creamy and milky kind of like a rich Japanese milk ice cream if you’ve ever had it before you can kind of feel now that I know about it that it has a little bit of this subtle sake flavor to it kind of the flavor of the K [Music] COI look at this incredible Temple behind me I’ve never seen anything like it before the gate has a thatched roof which is very unique to this region it really is remarkable a little little ways away from where all of the cafes were gathered is another Cafe called Cafe sat or Kissa sat in Japanese and it’s known for serving some local homestyle cooking that everybody around here loves and one of the dishes that they serve has been eaten here traditionally for Generations apparently so let’s go inside and see what that is it actually feels like a grandmother’s home this is so cool there’s photograph but also here this is a little venue it has a picture of Shak kaag and they also have something called a toimi Zeno toim Mochi is mochi made out of I believe horse chestnut not very common let’s give that a [Music] try for might take one [Music] hi that was such a special experience I didn’t think I’d get a chance to interview a local anyway let’s try this homemade meal that she made today for those of you who don’t know zenai is kind of a traditional sweet red bean [Music] soup M I think this is really good it’s got a little bit of a Nutty taste to it makes sense cuz it’s a horse chestnut but it’s kind of like a a typical like chewy but slightly stretchier Mochi I think this would be perfect in the winter time when it’s piping hot this might be one of my favorite things I’ve eaten today actually looks really good but I’m very curious about these potatoes I’m sure they’ve been seasoned in kind of a traditional Japanese style M if you’re not from Japan that’ll be unlike anything you’ve had before forget like buttery salted potatoes these potatoes are they’re quite on the sweet side this is a really special meal I think this is the place to come if you want to enjoy a homecooked meal it’s the perfect place to kind of experience the s life so if you guys just want something different a little bit local and homey this is a place to check out but I have a little bit more to explore here in Shaka go so I’ll see you guys [Music] outside look at this massive gush show style house with a thick that roof seems to be a wood art museum and craft shop and I’ve seen some people upstairs looking at the window so let’s go inside and see if we can check out the view I can’t can’t believe I’m inside of a real gush sty house over 100 years old let’s go up to the third floor to see the view I love these creaky wooden steps this is so cool you can really feel the history in the wood the ceiling is so high there’s a viewpoint on the third floor right over here this has got to be the best view in the town come take a look wow wo I am now on the third floor of a traditional shirakawago gush show style house you can see the whole town this is such a tall house you can see the roofs of all of the old houses here I feel like I’ve stepped into a painting my last stop of the day is this beautiful Cafe right here it’s called kosu and it says that it is a cultural Cafe I’ve heard that this is a really wonderful place to relax and just enjoy the beautiful sights of shirakawago the view is incredible we can have a seat over by the window on these beautiful tatami floors [Music] what a wonderful Cafe this Cafe Lati looks wonderful you can see coffee part at the top with the hea milk on the bottom and the lemon the lemon Lade BM kuhen looks really lovely so I cannot wait to try both let’s give it a taste M you know what I think it’s really nice about having the coffee and the milk somewhat separated is that the milk actually gets to be kind of the star of the show for a moment and the milk is really rich really creamy whole milk with this view it feels like I’m looking at a work of art and it is instantly peaceful for the soul let’s have a bite of the limited edition bum cuhen with a little bit of whipped cream on top it goes very well with the cream because this particular type of cake like a bum cuhen it’s a little bit crumbly and dry and firm the whipped cream adds just that right amount of creaminess I’m going to continue enjoying this View and my cake just a little bit longer the glass is so clear that I even saw a giant dragonfly come fly right up to the window but it does not get more idyllic than [Music] this I have had the best time just walking around and exploring shakago today just absolutely stunning I cannot recommend this town enough there are a decent amount of tourists here but it’s not overrun by people in general and it does seem that there’s an overall consensus that tourism helps maintain these beautiful houses if you guys come here please make sure to be respectful and just enjoy this peaceful nature and if you would like to have a tour of this wonderful place we do actually have a shakago tour available on by food and you can actually access that by scanning the QR code on the screen somewhere down below and yeah you’ll get a guided tour and they’ll teach you all about the place this is the last video in our three-part gefu series but we also visited an area in gefu last year called gujo hachiman which previously was one of my favorite places in Japan but I think officially gefu prefecture has been updated to my favorite prefecture in Japan because the nature is unlike anything I’ve seen before let me know in the comments down below which city was your favorite that we’ve shown so far if you haven’t seen the other ones we’ll have them linked somewhere and if you enjoyed this video make sure to give us a like comment and don’t forget to share and we’ll see you guys very soon in another video bye if you enjoyed this video click the photos on the left for more fun Japan adventures and click the one on the right to join the tour I tried today see you next time

Shirakawa-go is definitely on my list of places to visit on my next trip to Japan! This is the exact vibe I'm looking for when visiting the country. Usually, those kind of places are quite busy though, so I tend to wake up super early in order to see them in the morning before the tourist rush. Or spend the night…
I don't think I will be stirring my latte as soon as it's served anymore, I will sip on it enjoy it the way she did in the last cafe 😊😍
Looks like a very peaceful place to retire to.
Man I miss Japan been there 3 times maybe a 4th will come one day
"Nuutttyyyyy" makes a cameo! Lol. Cheers!
This video was great but the only thing missing is information about how to get here. Would be good to have some advice about best ways to get there from Tokyo and/or Osaka
love the dedication to preserving the the classic houses, such treasures, I dream of climbing those steps to see those beautiful views and trying all those wonderful snacks
😍♥️
Honestly, This village makes me nervous when I watch an anime named "Higurashi" 😂 But that was young me. After so many years, I realized this place is so beautiful and peaceful and deserves people's attention worldwide. I hope I will visit this village someday ☺
Very atmospheric place! 😇
I have heard about the area it’s GREAT they are preserving it!!!!,
And the sake ice cream I want that!!!!! 🍦 😊
This is the best coverage of this town–I wouldn't think twice about living here for at least few years. I actually had the opportunity to stay in one of those houses, I got so excited but found out that building only had one shared bathroom. I thought I had all the time in the world, but now I don't know when I will ever have a chance to book your guidance.
I know this whole channel is here to sell but she never talked about the pudding. . .
Thanks Shizuka – the joy in your videos is so infectious!
Always a great video with Shizuka ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your informations. I always refer to your videos when studying english. Also your so great warming energy is always made me to happy thank you しずかさん!
I keep hearing the place name as Chicago for some reason.
Gifu might be the most underrated prefecture. Everyone needs to visit! Hiroshima too
"Such a magical and charming village! 🏞✨ Shirakawa-go is like a fairytale come to life! 🏡🌸 #DreamDestination" Fyi.
I just visited for the second time, and it was even more beautiful than before. Here’s a video I put together from the photos and footage I took.
https://youtu.be/6BtMzilZlKw
Heard something happened there in 1983. Well, just enjoy the Cicadas there.
How is it possible to visit Shirakawa-go without hundred of other tourists around? 🤣🤣
I was expecting to see Marty Friedman as your co-host. It was still good though!✌️🤭😅
💜💜💜
Yum so lucky love the Japanese cultures and cuisine
