Hello, this is Yuyu Tabi couple. I came to Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture. Kamakura is one of Japan’s most historic cities, and is full of beautiful temples and spectacular views. It is very accessible, about 1 hour from Tokyo Station. Please watch this video and go to Kamakura. The video has started. Kamakura trip begins! Today I came to Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture. Kamakura Station has a retro look. I’m at the east exit of Kamakura Station. There are Keikyu Bus and Enoden Bus stops from the east exit of Kamakura Station. There is a train called Enoshima Electric Railway at the west exit of Kamakura Station. In Kamakura, you can enjoy sightseeing mainly using these three means of transportation. Is this your first time coming to Kamakura? I’m looking forward to it since it’s my first time here! Have most people living in Kanto ever been there? When I lived in Tokyo, I used to come to Kamakura once a year. For people from the Kanto region, it’s like a Kyoto that you can easily go to. It’s like Kyoto, which is close to the sea. First, let’s walk to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Beyond this torii gate is Komachi Street. On the torii gate is written “Hachimangu Shrine Shortcut”. There are fewer people than I expected. It’s still early in the morning. A lot of people will come at noon. The current time is 9:42. Shops start opening at 10 o’clock, so there aren’t many people yet. Komachi Street is a street located on the way from Kamakura Station to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. It is about 360m long and has about 250 shops. It is a popular sightseeing spot visited by many tourists, with a variety of stores such as gourmet food, Japanese miscellaneous goods, and stylish cafes. There are so many people during Golden Week. The street here has a nice retro atmosphere. This atmosphere excites the hearts of Tokyo people. There are shops on this street that have been around for over 100 years. On the other hand, there are some very new shops, and the atmosphere of the mix of old and new buildings is very nice. I haven’t had breakfast, so I would like to eat something instead of breakfast. A Japanese sweets shop called “Sakura no Yumemiya.” This is a relaxing cafe that conveys the deliciousness of the ancient capital of Kamakura, the birthplace of Japan’s cafe culture, in a modern style. Various types of dango are sold at stores. I ordered Isobe and Mitarashi Dango. I can’t chew the seaweed. The mochi is warm and soft, and the flavor of the seaweed and the aroma of the soy sauce are perfect. The mitarashi dango was also sweet and delicious. Sweets shop “Tomoya”. What you want to try at this restaurant is the “Daibutsu-sama Yaki”. Speaking of Kamakura, Imagawa ware is shaped like the head of the Great Buddha. There are 6 different flavors. I bought the Daibutsu-sama grilled and Tsubuan cream cheese flavor. I’ll enjoy having this. I’m so happy with the amount of red bean paste and cream cheese! Too delicious! Red bean paste and cream cheese go so well together! The last thing we came to on our food tour was Shonan Kamakura Croquette. I stopped by at the cheerful invitation of the store clerk. Fried foods such as croquettes and minced meat cutlets are available. I bought croquettes made with Hayama beef, a Japanese beef. Hayama beef is a general term for Japanese black beef produced on the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture. It was freshly fried, so it was super hot. It’s so delicious. There is a space inside the store where you can sit and eat. Thanks for the meal. good! Travel is all about croquettes. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. It’s not Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine, it’s Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. This large torii gate leads to the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. As soon as you enter the temple grounds, you will see a magnificent stone bridge. Has Yumi ever been to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine? It’s happened many times. I have fond memories of coming here for a school event. There are many people even early in the morning. Do you know who Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is connected to? The hint is the Kamakura Shogunate. Kamakura Shogunate established in 1192? Minamoto no Yoritomo? correct answer! This shrine has a history of about 800 years and is connected to Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura shogunate. As the guardian deity of Kamakura and the guardian deity of the samurai, it became a spiritual stronghold of the people. It is a famous shrine in Japan, ranking fifth in the number of worshipers in Japan, and about 2.5 million people visit on New Year’s visit. Before visiting the shrine, you will purify yourself at the chozuya. A maiden is a building built within the grounds of a shrine for the purpose of performing bugaku. There was someone who was having a wedding. A place of self-exorcism. Self-purification means to purify yourself. We will pay 100 yen as the first fruit fee. Hold a piece of paper in the shape of a doll to perform the exorcism. While holding the puppet paper, dive around the large ring in a figure 8 pattern. After caressing the doll’s body with the paper and blowing on the paper, place it in this box and the self-exorcism is complete. I’m heading to the main shrine. The main shrine has been designated as a national important cultural property. It is said to bring good luck in competition, work luck, and career advancement. At Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, Yabusame is held at the festival held every September. A person runs from the torii gate in front of you on horseback and shoots an arrow at a target. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is the birthplace of Yabusame. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is also where the “Hamaya”, a lucky charm used to ward off evil spirits, originated. Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine has a large garden where you can enjoy the scenery of each season, including cherry blossoms in the spring, lotuses in the summer, and autumn leaves in the fall. This is Wakamiya Oji. Wakamiya Oji is a street that stretches approximately 1.8km in a straight line from Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine to Yuigahama Beach. The sidewalk you are currently walking on is called “Dange”. There are three torii gates along Wakamiya Oji. The path between the second torii gate and the third torii gate is a stepped path. The trees growing on both sides are cherry blossom trees. In spring, the scenery becomes very beautiful. A characteristic of Dankatsu is that the road gradually narrows as it approaches Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Well, it looks far away. Visual effects make Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine appear farther away than it actually is. The same technique is used at Disneyland’s World Bazaar. The reason for this is to make Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine feel far away and increase its dignity. It is said that it is also used to confuse the enemy when attacked. Obviously, the width of the road has changed. I came to a restaurant called “Dolce far niente” to eat lunch. This is an adult Italian restaurant that uses Kamakura vegetables. This is a popular restaurant in Kamakura where you can eat authentic Italian food at a reasonable price. The store is on the second floor and the entrance is a little difficult to find, so please be careful when visiting. I came right after the store opened, so there was no one in line and I was the biggest customer. The restaurant has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere with only a few seats. Kamakura vegetable lunch plate. Tomato sauce with shrimp and Kamakura vegetables. A lot of Kamakura vegetables are used. Mmm, delicious! Since the vegetables are not overcooked, you can enjoy the flavor of the vegetables themselves. In addition to salad, the lunch plate comes with quiche, potage soup, and cake. Kamakura vegetables are vegetables grown in the western inland area of Kamakura City in a warm climate. Vegetables are grown without pesticides or with reduced pesticides, and are said to be good for your health. Thanks for the meal! When we left the store, there was a long line, so we recommend arriving early. There is a lot of foot traffic on Komachi Street. I’m going to see the Kamakura Great Buddha now. Take the Enoshima Electric Railway. Enoshima Electric Railway is a popular railway for train enthusiasts. Take the Enoshima Electric Railway and head to Hase Station. The Enoden entrance is on the east side of Kamakura Station. Even from the west exit, you can enter the JR ticket gate and pass through. It’s a little hard to understand, so please be careful. The station has a slightly retro feel. Enoshima Electric Railway is an electric railway that connects Kamakura to Fujisawa. During busy seasons, there are so many people using the bus that you may have to wait 30 minutes to an hour to board. 3 stations from Hase Station. Enoden has a one-day ticket called “Noriori-kun.” The fare is 800 yen for adults and 400 yen for children, and you can ride the Enoden train as many times as you like for one day. You can also receive benefits such as discounts at surrounding facilities and stores, making it a great ticket when sightseeing on the Enoden. Move from Kamakura Station to Hase Station. I walked to a temple called “Kotokuin”. There are fewer people than I expected. We arrived at Kotoku-in Temple about 10 minutes walk from Hase Station. Admission fee is 300 yen for adults. As soon as you enter, you will see the Kamakura Great Buddha. It is a very large Buddha statue with a height of 11.31m. It is the only Buddhist statue in Kamakura that has been designated as a national treasure. How much do you think this giant Buddha weighs? 10 tons! The correct answer is approximately 121 tons. Minamoto no Yoritomo was also involved in the Kamakura Great Buddha. It is said that it was proposed by Minamoto no Yoritomo, and construction began in 1252 by a monk who carried on his wishes. It is said that when it was completed, the entire body of the Great Buddha was covered in gold leaf. Originally, the Great Buddha was placed in the Great Buddha Hall. However, due to the effects of tsunamis and earthquakes, the Great Buddha Hall disappeared and is now placed outdoors. There are 9 different ways to fold the hands of the Great Buddha. This Great Buddha has the most formal way of folding its hands. Kamakura Daibutsu is a rare place among Daibutsu, where you can go inside. There is a limit on the number of people allowed in at one time, so you may have to wait in line during busy times. A large Buddha statue made using the casting method. The seams are clearly visible from the inside. You can clearly see the unevenness of the head. It’s surprisingly smaller than it looks from the outside. I went to a souvenir shop in Kotokuin. I bought some Kamakura cider to accompany my trip. I’ll enjoy having this. Lemon-flavored cider, refreshing. delicious! Walk to Hasedera Temple. I arrived at Hasedera Temple, a 10-minute walk from Kotoku-in Temple. This temple was opened in 736 at the request of a monk named Tokudo Shonin, who founded Hasedera Temple in Nara. Admission fee is 400 yen for adults. Buy a ticket and go inside. Hasedera Temple is popular as a photogenic temple. It is famous for its beautiful hydrangeas. 2,500 hydrangeas of 40 types are in full bloom. Oh, look! A cute Jizo called Good Encounter Jizo. Good Encounter Jizo are hidden in three locations within the precincts. It is said that if you find all three and take a photo, you will be blessed with a good match. Please look for it. Main hall. Photography is prohibited inside, so we cannot show you the inside, but you can see one of the largest wooden carved Buddhas in Japan. Wow, what a great view. Hasedera Temple is famous as a scenic spot. From the observation deck, you can see the cityscape of Kamakura, Yuigahama Beach, and the Miura Peninsula. I’m a little tired, so I’ll take a break here. I bought Kamakura beer. delicious! It’s smooth and delicious. It’s great to be able to drink beer while looking at the spectacular view. In autumn, it is a popular spot for viewing autumn leaves. Hasedera Temple has a restaurant within its grounds. I came to a cave called Benten Cave in the temple grounds. There are various gods inside the cave, and you can buy candles and offer them at the entrance. We took the opportunity to make an offering as well. It was offered to the god of gold, silver, treasure, and business prosperity. Shoin. You can experience copying sutras. The use of electronic devices is prohibited when copying sutras. You can participate on the day, so if you are interested, please give it a try. You may lose track of time and become immersed in it. After leaving Hasedera Temple, I came to an old folk house cafe located on the sea side of Hasedera Station. nice atmosphere. The store is located at the end of a narrow street in a residential area, and is a renovated old house that was built over 100 years ago.It has a calm interior. You can enjoy coffee and sweets made with high-quality beans. I ordered different types of coffee and Basque cheesecake. Oh, it’s a fruity coffee. Basque cheesecake. Too delicious, the best! It’s a wonderful cafe that is so comfortable that you will want to stay for a long time. There were many other types of coffee, so I think it would be more fun to try and compare them. Thanks for the meal! I was healed. Walk along the seashore for about 20 minutes and head to the sunset spot in Shonan. Arrived at Inamuragasaki Beach. The waves are high and it is a popular surfing spot. The Inamuragasaki coast is a popular sunset spot, but unfortunately there were a lot of clouds so we couldn’t see the sunset. I wanted to show everyone a beautiful sunset. You can see Mt. Fuji on the right and Enoshima on the left. It has been selected as one of Kanagawa’s top 50 scenic spots. For some reason, the roads along the coast of Shonan get very congested in the evening. There are many people surfing. I’ve never surfed before, so I’d like to try it someday. I moved to Enoshima Station, the final destination of my journey. I came to Enoshima on short notice because a night event called “Shonan Candle” was being held in Enoshima. There are a lot of people even at this time. Walk for about 20 minutes from the station to Enoshima. We arrived at Enoshima. Yumi has been to Enoshima many times, but this is her first time visiting at night. The store’s business hours may be extended during the event period, and the store is crowded with people even at this time. Purchase tickets at the entrance of Enoshima Escar. Should I pay 500 yen to ride the escalator or walk? Of course I will charge you. You can enjoy projection mapping while riding the escalator. You will take four escalators to reach the top. Arrived at the top. Enoshima Sea Candle shines in the night sky. Shonan Candle is a candle event held in Enoshima for about three weeks from autumn to winter. Japan’s largest 10,000 candles will illuminate the night of Enoshima. Although there were a lot of people, it was a wonderful event filled with soothing candles! Finally, we will have dinner in Enoshima and return home. I came to Tenkai, a popular seafood restaurant in Enoshima. I ordered a luxurious sashimi set and a rice bowl topped with whitebait, which is synonymous with Enoshima. I’ll enjoy having this! You can choose between raw whitebait and kettle-fried whitebait. Enoshima’s whitebait is exquisite! The sashimi was thick, large and very tasty. Thank you for the meal! It was a luxurious dinner, perfect for the end of the trip! It was the best trip! As mentioned above, we spent a day sightseeing around Kamakura. There are still many attractive spots in Kamakura, so please be sure to visit them. 1.
