도쿄 근교에 이런 섬이? 미우라반도 조가시마
Hello! We drove about 2 hours from Tokyo via the expressway and arrived in Miura This is Misaki Port, located at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula It’s a base for deep-sea fishing, especially known for being among the top tuna catchers in the country It’s famous enough to be called the “Tuna Town.” This is a small ferry connecting Misaki Port and Jogashima It takes 5 minutes one way to Jogashima, costing 500 yen I thought taking the boat to Jogashima would be fun Unfortunately, it rained yesterday and today is cloudy too It would’ve been so much more beautiful on a sunny day—what a shame If you come by public transport, it’s good to use the “Misaki Maguro (Tuna) Ticket.” It includes train + bus + a tuna meal + one sightseeing pass, all in one ticket This is the semi-submersible sightseeing boat “Misaki Nijiiro Sakana” (Rainbow Fish) Here’s the departure timetable (takes about 40 minutes) You can get various perks We missed the timing and ended up waiting, wasting 40 minutes Finally, we’re departing I’m not sure about weekends, but weekdays are nice and uncrowded Setting off This is the Jogashima Ohashi Bridge, connecting the Miura Peninsula and Jogashima It’s a 575m concrete arch bridge built in 1960 It used to be toll, but has been free since March 2020 They ask you not to feed from the back It’s finally time to see underwater They’ve made windows so you can look outside The problem is, it’s been raining all day yesterday So the water outside is murky I wish they’d warned us before boarding that we might not see anything today Normally you’d see fish like these They say the fish gather only when this boat arrives here at this spot Up front they were explaining the different kinds of fish You can see them when they come close, but just silhouettes… The kid reacting every time a fish appears is so cute! Once back on deck, it was time to feed the fish ourselves Now it’s time to head back Would it have been more exciting if we’d actually seen the fish clearly? Waiting 40 minutes basically took up the whole morning—what a pity Still, if you come all the way here, I recommend trying it out at least once Thank you! This is the direct farm and fisheries market The first floor is the fish section, second floor is the vegetables It’s a place where you can enjoy local fish and produce all in one spot They say there’s also a terrace and rest area on the second floor Everything’s prepped and kept refrigerated People bring coolers to buy and pack their purchases We came here for lunch We were guided to the second floor Even on a weekday it was already full—quite popular It’s the direct-store of a fishmonger with 80 years of history, serving fresh wild tuna Someday I want to try a delicious bowl of uni As you’d expect in Tuna Town, there are many tuna dishes This menu is eligible for the tuna ticket We got started early, so we were hungry (I still get lost in Japanese characters when I read them.) Toro is the fatty belly of tuna, rich and tender Otoro is the premium inner belly, while Akami is the lean back meat And the part in between is called Chutoro It was truly fresh and delicious above all else If you come to Misaki, be sure to eat tuna! After lunch, we’re heading to explore Jogashima It’s free now, but if it were paid we might’ve been slightly disappointed… Same with parking fees—if it were cheaper maybe more tourists would come There are shops along the path to the shore There are restaurants on Jogashima too We’ve arrived at the coast This is the view from the southernmost tip of the Miura Peninsula It’s a shame the weather didn’t cooperate and it’s cloudy The stratified rock formations created by erosion look spectacular Jogashima is said to be one of the best spots near Tokyo for migratory bird watching It’s especially famous for sea birds gathering in winter Who’s this kid? They look great spreading their wings Jogashima apparently has many semi-wild cats living in nature Come to think of it, cats and fish, huh? From a higher view they look even more alike Strangely, nature makes me feel reverent There were also many people fishing That must be an exciting moment Feels like a school field trip Here’s Jogashima’s Umanose (Horse’s Back) Cave Named for its flat, extended top like a horse’s back A stunning formation carved by nature I hope the top doesn’t erode any further This place looks like it could be a movie set location Over there is Jogashima Park and the lighthouse The walking trails are very well maintained From here it sort of looks like a sideways heart shape From below, I thought it was some attraction facility But it was just someone enjoying it solo as a hobby They were flying it like a kite, holding it over their head to stabilize It flies like a bird It’s amazing up until the landing They said anyone with bike riding ability can do it But I’m out due to my fear of heights Thanks for telling me all kinds of stories Later we encounter a snake (warning) Isn’t that dead? No, it’s moving! It’s moving? It’s been so long since I saw a live snake It’s moving? Why is that the one I notice? Where are you looking while walking? Usually you just look forward, right? Only the tail is left now But it’s that slow? I thought snakes were really fast My heart almost stopped for real I was really startled I can’t believe I saw the whole snake—why? Except for once or twice as a child, have I ever seen such a snake before? It’s a relief—I’m good at noticing things since they stand out to me If I’d passed by without knowing… maybe it’s better to pass unknowingly It’s a place I’d love to revisit on a sunny day Renting a bike to tour around might be nice too Thanks for watching today as well Have a great day, everyone!
