2017 Mar Koyasan Japan, the sacred mountain

Mount Koya is the centre of Shingon Buddhism, introduced to Japan in 805 by Kobo Daishi. UNESCO has named it as a World Heritage Site in 2004.

It is just a 2 hours drive from Osaka city to this beautifully haunting forest mountain retreat. It is also the best place to experience an overnight stay at the temple lodging (shukubo). A must-have activity is the night cemetery tour at Okunoin.
