Our Month in India – A Total Culture Shock!
okay so this is the area that we’re staying
apparently this is really quiet for Delhi so we’ve been told there’s no such thing as quiet our street is more quieter than this so there is cows everywhere but they do get fed you do see
them feeding we feed them we’re trying to feed them he ate it all whole he’s licking my hand
just trying to make friends with them you know he’s proper licked my finger he had a massive tongue oh we’ve run out of oranges i have no oranges left i’m so sorry oh hello darling
hi is this your dog is this your dog what’s his name no name no name street dog who puts
the jackets on them so I need to calm down with touching the animals because over the
course of the last year I’ve had to have six rabies vaccinations from being bitten and
scratched by cats but can’t stop stroking won’t stop stroking that’s my mantra hello
so the road that we’re actually staying on is very very quiet compared to like the
area we just was super nice hostel very clean highly recommend it and uh there’s
also dogs so do we need to say anymore and that’s enough cows for one day so we’ve come to HaldIrims for a quick chai
before we go out on the streets crazy streets of Delhi and explore… 20p this cost if I’m honest we
have been putting India off for a while but after a year of traveling I feel like my immune system
feel like my mindset’s ready for India let’s go here comes scam number
one i don’t understand sorry cash cash..we
had already paid for the rickshaw via Uber and the money had left our bank
he wanted us to pay more cash pretending that it hadn’t worked online this is
a very common scam to look out for with the taxi apps due to not paying he
pulled over the taxi and gave us the boot no okay… died no good.. yeah now what do
we have to get out.. do I have to get out we have to order another taxi.. okay that’s a first that was the weirdest situation ever like if he generally has broken down I
feel bad for him but at the same time that was very sus wasn’t it.. 2 minutes later
he drove away.. hitchhiking through India hi give us a backy.. we were then finally on the road to experience our first proper taste of Delhi
it’s safe to say the traffic in India is crazy you jumped out your skin.. we nearly knocked a guy off his bike we got a half hour ride in this so put your seat belt on.. we haven’t got one i think we’ve eased ourselves
in with New Delhi welcome to Old Delhi and this is our amazing tour guide
Aman.. it’s wise getting a tour guide to navigate us through all this it’s uh it’s hard to do the navigations whilst trying to navigate through whilst trying to pick places to go so I would highly recommend a tour here he’s promised us 100% no delhi belly today i’m holding him to that.. so this is a samosa famous and jalibee this is sweet this is savory
and this costs 85 rupees which is maybe about 80p going to dip it in the sauce what’s the sauce.. it’s spicy spicy oh my god that’s so good jalibee is deep fried flour
batter soaked in sugar syrup i’m not saving you any of this next up is the famous stuffed Indian bread called
paratha usually served with an array of curry sauces today’s sauces were pumpkin potato and
bean and sweet banana so we have gone for paneer cheese and a mix veg.. no words needed okay well
that food was amazing probably some of the best food we’ve had in the few days we’ve been here
we probably never found that place without coming on a little tour and another reason why
you should go on a tour because you just don’t ever know where these spots are it’s just easy as well
when someone’s like “You want to come here do you want to go there?” And you’re like “I’m already
on a tour thank you.” Just makes your makes your day a little bit easier walking through old
Delhi it’s so busy everyone’s hustling now a day isn’t
complete in India without a cup of chai chai is tea leaves in hot milk brought to a boil with spices like cinnamon cardamon cloves ginger and black pepperc corns this is then
usually served in small clay cups delicious she’s heard the word chai, i can’t keep
her away from the stuff i’m the ambassador for chai I love it.. then you’re in the
right country chai chai masala chai if you come to India you will have some good
chai cheers cheers cheers cheers sorry i can’t hear you welcome to India welcome to
India we love honking if you’re driving in India you just need three things good honking
good brakes and good luck I can smell all the spices already welcome to the spice
market this is Kari Bioli the largest spice market in the whole of Asia here you can find a
variety of spices nuts herbs and even rice and tea oh my god this is mental man this place is crazy.. you okay? i’m coughing on everyone’s chillis this is crazy my eyes are watering nose is running so many
different smells yeah my nose now we were in the market only 10 minutes and we were
coughing up a lung i can’t imagine how the workers feel here every day not to mention
that most of the workers actually live on site in the market spices are India’s gold dust
and it produces 70% of the world’s spices this is the reason why so many Western
countries came to India many years ago you didn’t think we’d come to India
without trying lassi did you should we go for saffron almond or mango mango mango
yeah mango sounds good wowi look at that oh that’s so good Aman was saying that this store
doesn’t use ice so it’s safe for consumption we’re officially in India we’ve had chai we’ve had
lassi parantha we’ve had Jalibee i can’t remember all the names and the samosa we are officially
in India the layer started forming up so you have to scratch it with a knife and keep it
separate and then they cut it and add it on the top so there’s a cream of the yogurt okay
yes so that is the cream of the yogurt delicious as part of our tour we visited many places
of worship including this beautiful Sikh temple here we was able to visit the
community kitchen where hundreds of volunteers meet each day to cook
are we hungry are we all hungry no matter your gender race or religion you can
visit this temple unlimited times a day 24/7 so this machine makes 5,000 rotti’s an hour and
it is totally free to eat the only thing they ask from you is that the food is not wasted
now I think that is pretty incredible we then said goodbye to Aman and we were in Delhi all
alone i’ve never been anywhere as busy as this namaste nothing to see he’s closed nothing to see
here our drivers drove us all the way here and then told us it’s closed when we got here
it’s quite a bit of smog but you can see.. nothing you can see absolutely nothing
cheers mate.. it’s part of the game when you is in India.. it’s just
part of the game he knew it was closed.. big hustle so here’s the temple that’s closed..
this is as far as we’re getting kids welcome to Humanun i hope I’m saying that
right it’s a a tomb of one of the Mughal emperors I did not expect this just in the center
of Delhi we’ve just gone from the madness of Chandi chock Market to this eventually
though once we ditched the naughty cab driver and there was not a single horn
to be heard this tomb was built in the 1560s by a woman for her
husband it homes not one but 100 tombs it stands as the first and largest
Mughal tomb in the whole of India and of course the day in Delhi wouldn’t
have been the true Delhi experience without ending up down the wrong side of the
highway towards all the oncoming traffic shouldn’t we be on that side of the road ? oh India
amazing man it was nice cheers thank you thank you so much.. we’ll see you again thank you so I think we massively misjudged the time
to get to the station i think we’re going to miss the bus.. would it be a Matilda
and Jenk’s journey if we didn’t miss the bus well we’ve got a 40minute wait mate
fun fact this is actually the first bus or train or plane that we’ve missed
in 14 months of travel so I don’t think that’s too bad going.. we’re blaming it on
the Delhi traffic so whatever your Uber says put 20 minutes on top of that yeah and
he just ditched us on the main road i would give yourself a good 30 to 40 minutes
to even navigate your way around here right round two, lets not miss this one it’s a full house puppy hi… we’re on the front seats here yeah?
okay cool thank you.. this is fancy that Let’s hope that beeping stops.. don’t film
me struggling mate because I haven’t been to the gym in a while, its not going up there.. the journey to
Agra is around 4 hours it was super chill and our driver made sure we stopped for
plenty of snacks.. yeah these are the best these are the best masala Munch but we call
them Maggie Munch i don’t know why why do we call them that? it’s just a nickname maggie
Munch maggie Munch everyone very spicy one thing that really blew our mind
about this journey is that the bus stops just seem to be in the middle of
the motorway we really didn’t know what to expect with the buses in India but
this journey was the easiest we’ve had in the whole of Asia and shout out to
our driver Turun what a cool guy he is I’m on a food tour with my bus driver cheers.. a few hours
later we’d finally made it to Agra and let’s just say our first impressions of the rickshaw drivers
here were very different to the ones in Delhi song song song open? song? okay oh Punjabi music punjabi
okay yeah.. sounds good who’s driving out of you two takes two to drive these tuk tuks.. it
seemed to be getting a little heated are they arguing over who’s driving everything good? no
who’s driving and who’s on tune selection boom box is about to go off…
got any tunes mate? well India
is nothing short of chaotic come on in.. this is our room in Agra this hostel
is pretty funky a huge communal area to relax and a rooftop view of the city of Agra and the
very famous Taj Mahal now let’s go see her so today we are going to see the main event in
Agra the Taj Mahal but we’ve got one thing we need to do first feeding a stray dogs
today.. like every other day and this might be why I keep needing the
rabies vaccine woohoo everyone’s excited i’m not going to lie the excitement soon
left we didn’t realize straight away but these two men were actually flashing
us there…. not really how you want to spend your morning in Agra… just dump it
all down and we’ll go nothing a cup of chai in a cafe called Good Vibes can’t fix
good vibes for the rest of the day oh no it’s okay just parking
please thank you.. parking? yes please yeah parking please parking the parking
yes yes to the Taj Mahal.. after saying we wanted the parking three times you can only
hope that we actually make it there always trying to detour you..heading to the Taj Mahal unless the driver
has other plans for us.. highly likely guide? no I’ve got one.. i’m the tour guide this
is my guide.. i don’t know any facts mate so you might be disappointed.. you got Google you
got Google facts so apparently this shuttle here at the parking is free if you have
a ticket we’ll find out when we get there we’ve had so many people try to sell those like
the slip-ons for your feet but I think we get it free with a ticket so bear that in mind definitely
need to cover those up.. monster munch feet oh my days oh my god it’s going fast.. if they drive like the tuk tuk drivers we’re coming off this okay so it was in fact free.. man of his
word the shuttle is free..come to my shop after maybe if you like to buy some small souvenir just look after it okay this is my shop she’s a right tight git mate.. welcome to one
of the seven wonders of the world my love so once you make it through an extremely
stressful security process where you lose your bag for 15 minutes and you’ve no idea where
it’s gone.. you enter the Taj Mahal mate it’s all Right.. it is magnificent the pictures
just don’t do it justice how did they build that and a man built it for his wife so if your
man isn’t building you a Taj Mahal get rid of him apparently it changes colors depending on
where the sun is on the day.. what would you say right now it’s looking like stone stone white
yeah like white but like the tip of the ball is looking kind of cream sorry if the audio
is bad we’re not allowed mics in here and it is I don’t know if you can tell by my hair so
windy today we’re getting blown around a bit this is beautiful it’s almost like mesmerizing
and apparently it used to have loads of gems stuck crested in the walls but I’m not going to
mention who stole them the Taj Mahal was built in 1632 and it is thought to have taken 22 years
to complete 22,000 laborers were brought in to construct this whole white marble beauty it
really is no wonder why this masterpiece is a wonder of the world even these buildings are
impressive the buildings that you can see at either side of the Taj Mahal are actually mosques
and are made completely of red sandstone despite our unpleasant start to our morning in Agra the
Taj Mahal left us feeling satisfied and it was definitely worth a trip down feel like everyone’s
come so so colorful today the Sari’s are beautiful and of course it’s not a day out in India
without making friends with everyone what can I say.. celebrity around these ends nobody
wants photos with me today cuz you’ve come dressed like your dad should we touch it bring
us good luck we can’t come all this way without touching it.. come on.. touched it touch the Taj
Mate what a place beautiful we stayed to watch the sunset and it was absolutely stunning the
Taj Mahal turned golden and sun-kissed what’s your thoughts on the Taj Mahal Till?
magnificent i can’t stop staring at it i think India has just as nice places
as this but I think if you came here and didn’t see the Taj then you’d be doing
it wrong this guy must have loved his wife i’ll wait to see what you’re going to
build me then,, oh a treehouse how about that? another bucket list done oh
and by the way Jenks finally got his picture it was then time to pack up in Agra and head across to Jaipur.. safe to say
Jaiper is also busy and loud we’ve just made it to our third location in
India we are now in Jaipur after a 5hour bus journey… you’ve dropped the bottles… dropped all the
snacks mate thank you.. dropping everything thank you.. you know when they say don’t arrive
somewhere and look like a complete beginner have you got the phone? We’re not going to be able to fit all our stuff on here no it’s okay thank you though
we’ve already…We won’t fit on here We’re getting an Uber.. is
it Uber or Grab? yeah we’ve already booked it but I don’t think we’re going to
get on there you pay by card Oh it’s okay thank you we’ve already
booked thank you.. it looks a comfy ride though are you good? namaste namaste
have a good day.. bye see you absolute death trap mate.. not getting on that
We got all our bags with us so just be a right pain take mine also.. hey take mine also oh you want
to be on camera namaste namaste.. where you from? England today we met from English geeza english Geeza
been there done there got it the t-shirt in London yes would you like to go somewhere buy my tuk tuk? it’s okay we have booked by UBER we will give you the Uber price.. it’s okay we’ve already booked and
paid on card.. you just arrived in Jaipur yes no problem you just go by Uber take my number if
you are interested to see Jaipur we would love to show you beautiful Jaipur and we charge 800
rupees for all day all day 800 include waiting parking fuel all are included okay i have a good
work i’m doing this work since 10 years when I met with the people what’s your website so
I can contact you the legendary tours Jaipur okay sweet cheers bro thank you bye bye now I will be
honest we didn’t really film much in Jaipur as I wasn’t feeling 100% so we just soaked up all our
time with our besties who you might remember from Nepal our time in Jaipur was only short but we
did however manage to experience our first Arti we ate some delicious food and we managed
to squeeze in a few of the temples we’re in a desert.. nestled in the far
west of India lies the golden city Jaisalmer home to a vast golden sea of
sand known as the mighty Thar Desert as soon as we knew there was an opportunity to
sleep under the stars we just had to visit from Jaipur we headed 11 hours west and arrived at
the very foot of the Golden Fort this is where our journey began… india.. they
made me take a picture shaking hands like we were two presidents this is one of the
very last living forts in India still home to around 4,000 residents our hotel was tucked
away down the windy little streets we’re in a castle this place had us feeling like king and
queen i literally feel like we have teleported back in time.. a real slice of ancient India we
paid a mind-blowing 300 rupees a night which in the UK is less than a coffee peace and love
were just the most amazing host’s who quickly turned into our family in our opinion the best
place to stay in the whole of the city you’re so cute well this is peaceful isn’t it.. first chai of the day enjoy that one mate.. now I don’t know much but I know I bloody love a Chai here’s our
driver hello namaste we’re getting in the back okay there’s the dinner in there
look.. what are you cooking tonight? you sure you don’t want to come with us? no brother i stay here enjoy the desert see
you tomorrow i’m here see you once we had made it past the road blocks
we was off now we’re not exactly sure where in the desert we’re staying let’s
just say somewhere over here we are currently in an abandoned village in the
middle of the desert, Kuldara is a ghost village around 17 km west of Jaisalmer established
in 1291 it was once a vibrant settlement I’m in… one day the community mysteriously
vanished overnight and to this day there’s many arguments as to why.. i’m actually
quite surprised they haven’t used the stones for anything very interesting one
local legend claims that whilst deserting the village they imposed a curse that no one
would ever be able to reoccupy those that have tried to reoccupy the village experience
paranormal activities and therefore the village is completely deserted the heat is so
different compared to the actual town of Jaisalmer.. just gone over on my ankle imagine if
our drivers just gone without us left us out here i know and this is our hydration
nobody judge us all right.. it was a long night it’s so hot.. back on the road.. nice yeah, video yeah?
yeah are you happy being in the movie good this is where our driver lives so cool let’s
go meet the family.. i’ve already made friends with every animal here.. hi everyone hi no
nibbling oh my god what’s everybody’s name? no he’s eating my hair.. no no Jenks, he’s eating my hair.. yeah if I ever go missing check the animal shed first this is our final
pit stop before we got to where we were sleeping straight away we spotted the
camels such an iconic desert welcome yeah we’re about to sleep on this floor mate.. nice one… you look so small in the pictures Till you look tiny compared to him.. a little
bit bigger than George… so we read a fact last night i was googling about camels and
if they wag their tails it means they’re happy just like dogs and he’s wagging
his tail when he’s eating he’s happy oh there’s a scrap.. some of the animals were
less happy and as I always say it’s not a day in India without multiple cups of the good
stuff the chai is served my favorite time of day thank you it’s a lovely little village cheers cheers chai and camels now you have two options to get further
into the desert you can ride on a camel or you can get in the jeep today we chose the
jeep we thought the camels might appreciate a little day off we drove deeper west into
the sandy desert just in time for sunset i’m following the man with the food so this is what we call home for the night it’s
just us fire stars and a few camels it didn’t take us too long to
settle in whilst we waited for the rest of the tour to arrive and
it seemed even the little local dogs had followed the camels all the way
to the camp… you look knackered mate i did not when we said we was coming to
India I did not think for a second we was going to be sleeping in the desert with no
electricity just us a few blankets and the Milky Way and we’re just about to go into
India summer so so not too hot not too cold but we got our long john’s so we’ll probably
be sticking them on later we’re with a group there’s about eight of us and I only see
only see three beds so we’re possibly sleeping on the sand but the sand is so warm i don’t
mind we’ve been told by a local to actually sleep on the sand because one it’s going to
be better for our posture and two it gathers all the heat in the day so it’s actually
going to be warmer to stay on the sand i’m looking forward to it apparently this is the
best place in the world to see the Milky Way oh we should have brought some cards we might not
even be able to see cards we should have brought our head torches oh yeah no we messed up there.. well welcome to the desert.. a little desert sunset and what a breathtaking sunset it was we kicked back took it
all in and watched as the chefs worked their magic the perfect end to a perfect desert day i saved
you something yeah just stolen a Pokhara for the dog now she’s my best friend she doesn’t look in
a good way.. was that good i like to have a coffee and beer in every country I go to.. king Fisher
super strong okay India let’s have a let’s have a taste test shall we i’m going to give you a..
it tastes a bit watery actually i’m going to give you a 5 out of 10 for that.. your turn to try…
I don’t really like beer.. the taste test for India it’s not bad i don’t really like beer anyway
first Indian beer in the desert we love getting to know our new friends and hearing their stories
there’s something truly inspiring about the people you meet on the road connecting with others from
different backgrounds is always a highlight and easily one of our favorite parts of traveling
he’s snoring… one tired little boy you can see it there’s our first star of
the night fingers crossed for the Milky Way it smells so good i am so excited for
dinner you got some spice absolutely so ready for this
i’ve even gone for some Indian spice this is the dahl, potato this is
aloo gobhi, chapati and some rice try the aloo coffee.. our first time together wild camping Till
and this is as wild as it gets eating dah in a sand pit in the
desert… the aloo gobhi is delicious so thank you my friend.. aloo gobbi is
my favorite really please we make plenty okay you don’t shy something more you
tell me too dark i don’t see your plate oh we’ll be back.. anything you tell me
okay more thank you so much you’re going to make a good husband one day…
bog roll mate toilet tonight is bush club pick a bush so one thing that we can’t work out is
there’s no moon we can’t see the moon anywhere so if anyone knows why let us know because we
can see Venus over that way millions of stars but no moon.. anywhere so we’ve come out for
a midnight trek with our Snickers bars and some watermelon chewy sweets.. probably not the best
decision we’ve ever had because there is tons of beetles everywhere so we’re having to literally
light up the floor.. you’re not sleeping with me tonight.. oh as long as it’s not a Scorpio
here we go apparently they’re no harm to us bye.. aw look at his little tracks oh they’re
so cute.. we’re scared of them and apparently they’re scared of us and we sat on Camel Bob yeah
let’s go we’ve come away from camp because when you’re actually in the pitch black so like no
light from anyone’s phone or anyone’s fire you can just see the whole sky with stars and I have
never ever ever seen this many stars before ever what’s that.. shine it over there it’s a human i only
go uphill oh I thought it was a camel i only want to look to the stars… oh okay in the darkness
false alarm we thought that was a camel it’s our German friend.. so we’ll insert a picture of
the one we’ve taken it’s a good picture but it doesn’t bring up as many stars as there actually
is here i wish you could just screenshot with your eyes what it looks like because I have
honestly never ever seen this many stars when you take a photo you can see how the stars
look apparently this is the Milky Way i don’t know so we’re gonna sit for the rest of the
evening under the stars i think that’s us for tonight isn’t it yep snicker bar to end the night
no one else brought snacks so we’ve come away so we don’t have to share them.. yeah we’re not sharing
sorry not tonight we’ve had amazing Aloo Gobhi akbar made the best aloo gobhi I’ve ever tasted in India in
the desert our first time wild camping without a tent without a bed i don’t even know if
we’ve got a quilt we’re speaking too soon we’ve not had a good night’s sleep yet oh
who cares we’ll let you know how we get on tonight’s bed oh and we did find out that the moon isn’t
there because it hasn’t risen yet it should be rising in the next 5 to 10 minutes
so we’ve come out because apparently the stars are harder to see once the moon’s
up so so yeah see you in the morning good morning how did you sleep? terrible thank you so much so it’s 7:30
we’re just warming up with a chai but we’ve got one important
good morning.. good morning everyone hello good morning hey good morning sweetie this is our little
setup for the night in the dunes and it looks like they just keep them all keep them
all here under some plastic wrap so cool ah mornings in the desert.. Jenk’s bugproof
outfit got to do what you got to do mate still haven’t plucked
up the courage to stroke one you’re scared of getting spat on.. so for breakfast
we’ve just had porridge but a little bit different to normal it was like buckwheat look like little
squares like chapati flour.. chapati flour yeah I think that’s what the guy said it almost looked
like couscous yeah very very good very sweet he said he makes it with honey and water so we’re
going to try and recreate that when we uh get back to our kitchen oh it’s a little fly there.. still in
the desert oh what what an experience this was so good last night was chilly I am going to admit
yeah not the best night’s sleep if you’re looking for comfort this isn’t the experience but if
you’re looking for something just completely just out of the ordinary to do this is it because
I had the best night ever.. that was wild camping that was wild camping it took me maybe 3 hours to
fall asleep because I was just so mesmerized and I was fingers crossed for a shooting star but it
didn’t happen would you say you had a good sleep no I had a good night but not a good sleep but
it’s okay it’s good yeah catch up on sleep when we’re old.. i think wild camping might be our new
thing where are we going to wild camp next africa with the lions? so we’ve just learned the names
chapati Harry Potter Tiger sadly it was then time for us all to pack our bags and get ready to leave
sleeping in the desert is an absolute bucket list experience we had the best time we enjoyed some
incredible food and were lucky enough to share it with all these amazing people.. Jenks even
plucked up the courage to stroke Harry Potter harry Potter what you got to say? we cannot recommend Peace and
Love Hostel enough thank you for always looking after us…. mate he’s off that’s probably what got you.. is it stuck in your leg? we stayed in Jaisalmer for a total of
5 and 1/2 weeks catching up on some work and recovering from 18 months
