Ubuyama Village, Aso District Description of Oogi rice terraces. The Oogi Terraces are terraced rice fields that spread out in a contour pattern at the foot of the Kuju Mountains in Ubuyama Village, Aso District. These 16 small terraced rice fields have been cultivated, taking advantage of the fan-shaped eroded terrain in the mountain valley. It has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Rice Terraces and an Important Cultural Landscape by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The terraced rice fields and the three cedar trees planted nearby create a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere. You can enjoy such scenery, which is now rare. Water for the rice fields comes from the clear stream of Yamabuki Springs, located 1.3 km upstream and selected as one of the prefecture’s 100 famous waters. The high-quality red soil and climate with its wide temperature difference make it possible to harvest rice with a unique taste. Let’s take off! Today I am in Ubuyama Village, Aso District. This is my second visit.
