Visiting Bosnia 🇧🇦 A Country Still Healing from War

it definitely doesn’t feel like other European
cities we’ve been to yeah not that we’ve been to for sure i think he’s going to jump wait
a minute he’s going to jump oh hell no look at this building these are bullet holes that’s
crazy this was no man’s land during the war time this is so exciting it’s so fancy in here i feel like I’ve never
driven a Mercedes before i couldn’t find where the buttons are okay so originally this wasn’t
our plan to get a Mercedes we actually booked the cheapest car which was a Volkswagen Polo with
manual transmission for €35 but when we got here they said that we didn’t buy the insurance
and that’s why they would actually have to hold €3500 that seemed like a lot to us we usually
only hold about €300 for a deposit so we decided to get the insurance that does only hold €300
so it has more coverage and after we took it she said “Well in that case we’re also going
to give you a free upgrade and we will cover the cost of crossing the border to Bosnia and
Herzegovina today.” So it ended up being about €70 about €70 for the Mercedes which is not
bad at all but yeah we kinda got upsold again yeah we got upsold again but I guess in a good
way it makes our drive today much more exciting so we’ve been driving for about an hour and
we crossed the border just now we got stamped out of Croatia but we didn’t get stamped in to
Bosnia and Herzegovina so we’re not quite sure how that works but we are here now and we’re
on this narrow road in the mountain but since we left the border we haven’t seen a single car
it’s just us i mean it’s a beautiful drive it’s very narrow but at the same time we are kind of
confused like is no one going to Mostar today or are we on the wrong path are we on the wrong path
or is nobody going to Mostar using this path we’re not sure like literally we’re the only ones on
this beautiful path oh it says Mostar okay okay welcome to Mostar we are now pretty close to one
of the most iconic spots in the country which is the Stari Most Bridge you can see it right here
does it take us to the bridge from here well no no this one goes to the bottom goes to the river
but we wanted to see the river because when we were driving here we could see how beautiful
it was it also looked like blue green beautiful colors so let’s go check out the river before we
walk over to the bridge cuz that’s basically where like the town is the the main part of the city wow
interesting they have like seating for you to look at the bridge from here i think it’s seating for
you to watch people jump from the bridge because we heard earlier there was a lot of clapping
and screaming and I think it’s because there are people who dive from this bridge right into
the river that’s crazy it’s so high i think it’s something about 24 to 27 meters or something so
how high is that that’s pretty high cuz when we go scuba diving we dive to 20 meters only right here
there’s even like a a platform for people to jump for people to dive into the river interesting oh
I didn’t bring my swimming suit otherwise I would jump from here oh good i’m glad you didn’t
bring it so you’re going to not die today somebody jump i want to see usually what happens
up there i think there’s like a diver who collects donations and then once he gets enough donations
or he’s like happy with the amount then he jumps what’s enough i have no idea like 10 for me like
a thousand euros but for him maybe I think maybe €20 would be worthwhile because really he jumped
and then he had to climb back up again that’s so crazy that’s not just the height but also how
cold it is when we jumped into the Adriatic Sea we realized how cold the water is but this river
year round is only like 15 to 17 degrees Celsius freezing cold is it freezing
even colder than the sea really oh my god my hands numb now wow yeah
€1,000 i’ll jump i changed my mind i think I’m going to up my price
should we go up yeah let’s go up cute city huh very cute oh look at this man it’s
like we are in another world just 2-hour drive away i think that’s the cool thing about Europe
is you’re always so close to the next country so we get to experience so much in such a short
distance it’s definitely doesn’t feel like other European cities we’ve been to yeah not that we’ve
been to for sure we just walked by a lot of people are enjoying Bosnian coffee it’s like in this
little copper pot yeah it looks like a Turkish coffee oh shirtless guy i think he’s a diver yeah
he looks like a diver look he has scratches on his chest though i think it’s from the impact or is
it from the cats around here oh hell no so €1,000 is not enough don’t think I can it’s so high oh my
goodness and that boat down there just going crazy he’s doing that to attract tourists crazy view
and there’s so many restaurants and cafe along the river every single of them have a perfect view of
the bridge too should we go get coffee then yeah it’s actually starting to rain out of nowhere so
let’s hopefully enjoy our coffee and then we can explore the rest of the city after this is where
we’re going cafe Kardak it’s cute huh little house overlooking the river so literally the bridge
is right there but we saw this cute little house besides the bridge and we thought we’d stop here
for coffee inside’s actually very very cute but the music is a bit too loud so we decided to sit
here but the man running it is quite a character too i was like can we sit outside he’s like you
can do anything that makes you feel comfortable so if you want to sleep here go ahead and sleep
here we have pillows for you yeah so he said “We’ll eat first drink our coffee and then we’re
going to go sleep in there.” So we’re waiting for our first Bosnian coffees but I did order a
pistachio baklava it’s almost like Turkish dessert i mean we’ve only had it at Turkish
restaurants and what was it Lebanese restaurants we never ever had like Bosnian food before so I
guess a lot of their similarity with the sweets that’s nice though i’ve always enjoyed baklavas
that was a big bite is it too sweet when you eat such a big bite extremely sweet good though
it’ll be perfect with the coffee oh thank you wow very good very nice and sweet thank you and
what’s the proper way to eat this to drink this how do we drink this it’s our first Bosnian
coffee we drink with sugar okay but do you drink with sugar or not you can drink without I
love drinking it with sugar first you mix this crema when crema is more clear put sugar
here and then crema like this put the crema but you must be quickly oh okay for me it’s
better that you sit up rain and wind oh okay okay we go up there it’s getting windy now to
move table oh it’s raining hard now too our first Bosnian coffee cheers it’s intense yeah it
has a different aroma from typical coffee between espresso and Vietnamese coffee you know what
I mean yeah but I mean I I remember this taste because I think I’ve had a Turkish coffee before
and that’s similar to what it it tastes like you don’t chug it yeah yeah i can already see
the sediment here you want water how much is it so much so much i don’t have enough
8 and five 13 13 you take euros okay thank you thank you you feel good
very good i feel great thank you again thank you thank you you should
say thank you to him he’s so nice thank you he’s so friendly and he asked me
how I feel as long as we feel great then he’s happy oh that’s so that’s so interesting
and he was just dancing and cleaning the dishes when I said thank you to him I said
hvala and then he’s like “Thank you lady.” Yeah you see the marks on his chest and his arm i think he’s going to jump wait
a minute he’s going to jump it’s pretty interesting
actually they are a team of four so three of them are along the bridge collecting
donations and another one went down there to collect more money oh yeah because there are
spectators down there too yeah i’m curious i was like how much is enough for them to come
how much is worthwhile for them well now that you think of it it’s like at least four people
splitting this pot and you need quite a bit right it’s so quiet wow what a lucky day i’m glad
we stuck around for a bit i love this street i think we’ve entered the
bazaar area now you can see a lot more like handicraft souvenir kind of items on the street
that’s a beautiful tea set see moments like this I wish we had a house i know that so we can
buy one of these and host some friends over and have a slow coffee yeah wait a moment
you got a curious one black and white cat is my favorite cat yeah yeah yeah yeah right
here right here right here right here look oh he just want me to pet him he doesn’t want
the food he just wants love yeah he just want love probably his first creamy treat oh it’s
all over your face look at this building you think that’s from the war the conflict yeah yeah
could be yeah that hole looks like a hole from a bomb or rocket and you can see bullet holes
everywhere on the side you see that yeah so we’ve now walked a little bit outside the
Stari Most bridge area and it already feels almost like you’re in a different place a lot of
the buildings that are out here the residential buildings are much older and it’s more quiet
here cuz most of the tourists are just in the main part where the bridge is but yeah this is
probably from the war it’s not that long ago i think in maybe 30 years ago was when the Bosnian
war happened yeah a lot of the country is still rebuilding basically from it and we can tell as
we’re walking through the city as well you can just kind of have that feeling that it’s a bit
rougher than the other European countries we’ve been to we’ve been to and even the Stari Most
Bridge itself it was destroyed during the war and they reconstructed it and it only opened
in 2004 but they built it the same exact way by stone like one stone at a time and rebuilt
the bridge but there’s still a lot of damage you can see in in the city for sure wow
look over here these are bullet holes that’s crazy yeah bullet holes everywhere this is the first European country that
we hear prayers cuz the mosque is just right in front of us and on the other
side we see the Catholic Church so it’s very interesting to have all these religions
all kind of in the middle of the city here so we continued walking down this local
area and we’re now here at this street art kind of neighborhood I did see it pinned
on Google Maps so I was interested in seeing what it’s like and as we were entering this
area I was noticing all of the beautiful colorful artwork on the left hand side but a
local lady local resident here pointed to us there is a lot more beautiful artwork
inside this residential neighborhood there are more on the side of the buildings
yeah wow that’s beautiful very beautiful and this one even say street art festival most
which is quite interesting to have an actual street art festival i think it encourages like
young people to display their skills and their art and make the city look more beautiful too
oh there even more here on those buildings wow i wonder what made this specific residential
community decide to host this you know what I mean or maybe every year maybe they change like every
year they choose a new community so eventually more places have street art like this like we’re
totally guessing we don’t know but it does like brighten up the neighborhood a lot because along
the road when we’re walking here you can still see a lot of very damaged buildings it’s quite
eerie walking walking down that street so this definitely brightens up everything this was a
no man’s land during the war time from opposite side it is a big Croatian military support this is
actually a prison oh you can see the barbed wire that was interesting we literally were walking
through the neighborhood and just there’s this guy peeking out the window peeking out the
window we waved say hi and then he said hi and he is actually a guide he said for the city
guide we’re not 100% sure but he definitely knew about the art and the street and he said
that he’s been living here for a long time so he answered one of our main questions that we
were curious about is why why the street and he said because of all the trauma people went
through you can see the war effects on on the street there’s a lot of buildings that give
people PTSD like damaged buildings from the war bunkers even if you go around the corner he
said that there was like a sniper hall yeah so a lot of the art is to just revitalize the area
and give people something joyful to look at this is actually quite a view looking down the
bazaar here this would look so good they take card we should check yeah you should check they take
euro mark and credit card so we’re good we can order anything we want i’m super hungry me too so
these ones are in marks right so marks basically divide by two is euro oh that’s not bad at all wow
thank you oh my goodness humongous we could have just shared between the two of us one two three
four five looks like I got five chicken breast and two big roasted peppers good thing I only ordered
the small one of the beef so that’s the the minced beef this is their specialty I think i don’t know
how to pronounce it’s called cevapi meatballs with traditional bread onions and this is the sauce
I guess a ajvar like a spicy dip it looks spicy let’s see looks delicious spicy oh interesting
i think it’s roasted peppers wow they’re gold right the bread is so nice surprisingly
this beef is very juicy it’s not dry at all oh my goodness wow that’s so beefy wow i’m more
familiar with this kind of food it’s almost like Turkish food and the reason for the similarity is
probably because this area this region Bosnia used to be ruled by the Ottoman Empire and what we
read was that they ruled this area for over 400 years so a lot of the food even the religion the
language a lot of it has influenced this area so I think that’s why there is similarity but there’s
also this twist that is very kind of Bosnian to it but I’m impressed very impressed with the food
good way to end the day yeah for sure i feel like we weren’t really sure what to expect coming here
cuz part of it is very serious because it’s like a what do you call like a war torn country and
then part of it is very historic and charming so in a way we got to see a bit of everything and
understand more about the culture cuz before we really knew absolutely nothing about this country
and the people here are so nice and helpful

We took a day trip from Dubrovnik to Mostar, one of the most historic and emotional cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We started at Stari Most, the iconic Old Bridge and the most photographed spot in the country—just in time to see a daring local diver jump into the icy waters of the Neretva River. As we wandered through the cobbled streets of Mostar’s Old Town, we were struck by its beauty and complexity. Our walk led us to a lesser-visited neighborhood filled with powerful street art and murals—an expression of the community’s pain, resilience, and hope following the war.

  1. You guys deserve way more subs. I enjoy the way you share honest, insightful experiences in such a real and authentic way that only a couple can. More please.

  2. I did Mostar from Dubrovnik as well back then. I was amazed at how fast they rebuilt the country after the war as well. During my trip, AMEX just entered the country as well that year.

They also don't like people to ask if it's safe to visit Bosnia as they sort of get offended. My Airbnb host said her previous guest they hosted said that. Not sure how we came to that discussion, so yeah

  3. I was enjoying this one so much. My parents are from Bosnia so all of this felt so familiar. Just been in Mostar and few other places last summer. Watching your vdo makes for a very mixed box of feelings. So much nostalgia… Also I'm thankful that you showed the other side, the real side of Bosnia. It is a country that is still struggling a lot and there's still lot of tension going on between the ethnic groups. Let's see… Maybe we can have a chat about it on Samui. Would be great actually 🙂

  4. Another great and insightful episode of your European travel, very nice, highly interesting. ❤

  5. A fascinating video. Great to see Bosnia Herzegovina thru' your eyes/lens. Haha… does that cat look similar to your Ella? You both seem to like cats. Anyway, a big thanks for sharing. Wishing you both a weekend of abundant blessings🙏🙏🙏

  6. This was great as usual my friends. This is a part of Europe that seldom comes up in those conversations of places we want to visit when planning a European trip. But I can see why that could change in the future. I hope the Bosnian Travel bureau recognizes your contribution to their economy! 😅

  7. Great work as usual…. can check with u, like how do u guys manage to get those superb aerial view in your video (1:47 to 1:53)…. like are those real video footage of your car on the winding road? Or was it generated by AI
    Other amazing drone/aerial shots:
    13:31 (bridge)

  8. Thank God for visiting this country. I have been waiting for you to visit Balkans to gather travel tips

  9. We’ve been to Mostar in 2018! It didn’t seem to change too much, just as beautiful. ❤ thank you for taking us along.

  10. Can you go to Bulgaria 🇧🇬 next, It’s famous for Yogurt and Rose oil, Very Beautiful country with lots of nature and peaceful scenery. 😊❤

  11. AMAZING VIDEO! You guys are getting better and better! Looks like we need to visit Bosnia, the food looks freaking delicious.

  12. My dear flora daughter I am watching your vlogs from 1 month especially from the Vietnam series. You guys are really cute and real which i like the most. Best ofluck guys love from nepal and singapore 😊

  13. Thanks for the breakdown! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (air carpet target dish off jeans toilet sweet piano spoil fruit essay). How can I transfer them to Binance?

  14. Great video showcasing this beautiful country to the world. When I was in Dubai, I used to eat ćevapi at Global Village. It’s a really delicious meat dish!
