진격의 거인 마을… 진짜로 존재했습니다

That day… humanity remembered… the humiliation… as if trapped inside a cage… I’m now in Kokura, Kitakyushu, Japan~! I’m casually traveling Japan again, but there’s somewhere in Japan I really want to go, so I picked up my camera. Today, we’re heading to “Attack on Titan Village” in Hita, Fukuoka. It’s where the ‘Attack on Titan’ author was born—there’s a museum and lots of ‘Attack on Titan’ attractions to see. I recently watched ‘Attack on Titan’… and I’ve been suffering aftereffects ever since. The story is truly… something you absolutely must watch—seriously. ‘Attack on Titan’ is not just an anime… it’s history, history… Ha… I have to go…!! Luckily, my girlfriend offered to drive, so we’re heading there together. ― Mai, you haven’t seen ‘Attack on Titan,’ right?
― Nope… She only watches Korean dramas. I need to give her some ‘Attack on Titan’ schooling today. ― Let’s go~~!!
― Let’s go~ Hita, a town about two hours by car from Fukuoka! You can also take a bus from Hakata Bus Terminal, but Hita is rural and public transit is inconvenient. It’s easier to go by car, they say. The road is all mountain and country roads. When we arrived in Hita, there really was nothing here… First, let’s go to Ōyama Dam near Hita, where the life-size statues of the three main ‘Attack on Titan’ characters stand. Oh… ‘Attack on Titan’…!! (Signs for ‘Attack on Titan’ start appearing here and there.) (Driving deep into the mountains…) (A colossal dam looms like the wall in ‘Attack on Titan’…!!) Wow… this dam is amazing…?! (Thank you very much~) There really is this wall… a wall…!! It feels like a colossal Titan could appear any moment…!! In the hometown of the ‘Attack on Titan’ author, with a dam this huge, they built the three statues here to match the concept. A colossal Titan appears, lol.

But seriously, the scale is overwhelming. Oh~ there are the three protagonists~! (Statues of the three amazed at the wall Titan!) (The craftsmanship is incredible—Eren, Mikasa, Armin!) Thinking about it, it must be terrifying— Imagine a Titan appearing above you… chills. Just having these three statues is amazing, and this wall really looks like the Wall… ― You don’t recognize “Wall Rose”?
― No idea, lol. ― Why not?
― Beats me~~ lol. (Up close, the dam is even more imposing…!) (Many tourists came to take photos.) Next, let’s go to the museum! The museum~ There are two ‘Attack on Titan’ museums in Hita Town. The main museum is next to Ōyama Dam, and after the manga ended in 2023, its popularity soared, so they built another museum. We first went to tour the main museum next to the dam. (It’s about a 10-minute drive from Ōyama Dam.) This is a community rest area, but it looks like a museum. It says “Shingeki no Hita~!” lol. Here’s the museum. You can see Titan bones from their transformation! Attack on Titan…! Take a photo for me~ (“Shincho~ Sasageyo~” pose shot lol) (An intensely serious “Welcome” sign, lol) Oh… a Titan hidden in the wall..!! (There’s also a Titan bust next to it, lol.) (Eren’s mother’s devourer Titan, haha.) Wow! They have stamps~ They say there are collaboration goods too!!! lol. (I miss you… Commander Erwin…) (A colossal Titan greets you at the entrance, lol) Welcome~ ― Will you visit the annex museum too?
― Yes, we will. ― We have a set ticket for both museums; would you like that?
― Yes, please~! (It’s cheaper if you buy the set ticket for both museums!) (The ticket features artwork from the movie “Rebirth” lol) (I really want that figure…) (They made the largest-ever volume 1 manga for the Guinness…!) (The figure looks even creepier up close, lol.) (Colossal Titan lanterns above, lol.) (They say the exhibit picks the most popular scenes to display…!) (Original manuscripts with the author’s comments.) They have Korean subtitles for everything. The author said from the very start they drew with the climax in mind. They planned the beginning and the end from the start. If you don’t plan both, you can’t resolve the plot foreshadowing, they said. It’s truly an all-time great anime… You absolutely have to watch it. “Susume~~~!!” They didn’t expect Erwin to be so popular lol. (Sergeant Levi…) They intentionally designed Levi to be popular, they said. You absolutely must watch this. “Susume~~~!!” They said they never expected Erwin to become so popular, lol. (Sergeant Levi…) Apparently they deliberately designed Levi to be popular. They didn’t know he’d get this huge. Even when drawing covers, they planned the composition and what to include. They thought it all through before drawing. (The Rumbling itself was pure brutality…) That unbelievably moving scene… “Shincho Sasageyo”… 😭 They said “The Rumbling” was inspired by “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.” There’s that giant insect procession in Nausicaä… and they drew inspiration from that. (That final heart-wrenching scene…) All the original art and the author’s notes are on display—so much fun to explore. (Visitor guestbooks from around the world.) There are messages in Korean: “I really love Attack on Titan~” “Thank you for creating such a great work~” “Shincho Sasageyo~” lol. (I left a message too.) “Eren… be happy wherever you are…” Wow, I feel so much like an otaku, lol. I’m a total otaku~~ They say the author was drawing like this from childhood. Even as a kid, he was thinking about Attack on Titan, lol. His early compositions are truly astonishing. (We wrap up with a photo spot.) “Shincho Sasageyo~” lol. “Omaera~ Arigatona~” — that’s Levi’s line, right? (So many spots to take photos with different art!) (The Korean explanations are really great.) Scan the QR code to see everything in Korean. All the descriptions are fully available—really impressive. (But this exhibition area is quite small…) (Alas, this is where it ends.) (But I can’t resist the souvenir shop~) – What’s this…?
– Sweetfish! Is it something you sprinkle on rice? No, it’s like instant rice. Oh, like a packaged rice meal. What does it have to do with Attack on Titan… lol. They say this fish is famous here~ Oh, so it’s rice with that fish~ (Hita’s waters are clear, so they catch lots of sweetfish.) (Clear water attracted the Sapporo brewery, making the beer famous!) (They even have beer featuring Levi and Erwin… but it’s decorative.) (And Japanese sake with the Survey Corps logo—so much to buy…) (They sell masks Levi wore… lol.) The museum is great, and you can buy Attack on Titan goods. (The museum visit is great, and you can buy Attack on Titan merchandise.) Right next door is an amazing café, and their burgers look incredible. I’m going to grab a burger before we go. (These are real handmade burgers… they’re massive… wow) You know, rural town travel is really nice! I’ve always loved exploring small towns. Plus, there’s Attack on Titan here, which doubles the vibe. It feels so special! (The burger tastes amazing~!) The meat is out of this world, lol. – How is it so good?
– It’s just insanely tasty, lol. You can really taste the fire-grilled flavor! (It’s the best burger I’ve had recently) Seriously, you have to try this if you come! If you love Attack on Titan, visit the museum, then come here for a burger. It’s ridiculously good. (after enjoying the burger~) Next, we move to the annex museum~~ (The tranquil countryside scenery is beautiful~) (The annex is a bit outside the town) (It’s located alongside the Sapporo brewery) This is about a 15-minute drive from the other museum. There’s another Attack on Titan museum here. Next to the Sapporo beer factory! You can even tour the brewery, though I’m not sure it’s worth it, lol. (Let’s skip the brewery and check out the museum~) It feels similar but on a larger scale here. (There’s a cute illustration spot for selfies) Let’s take one together~! “Tanoshime~~” (Enjoy~~~) (Enter with “Susume~ Elwin’s rallying cry”) (Show the set ticket you bought earlier) You can take photos and video freely~ Just note that the final interview video cannot be filmed. They’ll have you watch a video inside first, so please wait a moment. (It seems there’s a video show…) I can sense something is coming. (Ooo~ a really cool video show~) (“Guchuku shite yaru..!”) (Three-dimensional maneuver gear shots were so refreshing) (When “The Rumbling” played, chills….) (About a 3-minute high-quality video show…!) If we hadn’t come here, we’d have missed something amazing. “A Titan…!” (All the key manga panels and author comments are on display.) (Original two-page cover from the author’s debut—he was so insecure…) He said he was so bad at drawing that he was in despair… They said the show will start soon, so please wait a moment~ (It seems there’s some kind of video show inside~) I can feel something is coming. (Ooo~ that’s a really cool video show~) (“Guchuku shite yaru..!”) (The 3D maneuver gear shots were so exhilarating) (When “The Rumbling” played, chills ran down my spine…) (It was a roughly three-minute, high-quality video show…!) It’s incredible. We’d have regretted not coming. “A Titan…!” (All the key manga panels and the author’s comments are exhibited here) Here’s a connected two-page cover from his debut days— he felt despair because he thought his art was terrible… But look how well he draws now, lol. He said he scaled back the gun design to feel like old-fashioned matchlock firearms. And that twist where the protagonist suddenly turns into a Titan confused many readers, lol. It was truly an incredible first plot twist! There’s so much to see… I love this place so much… This was amazing too… A Titan inside the wall like that… ― Is that another Titan?
― Yes! It’s the same Titan from the dam… there’s one inside too~?! ― Really? lol
― Yeah, watch out, lol (“Attack on Titan” is history…) This is the “coming out” scene, right…! When Reiner and Bertolt reveal their identities, they agonized over how to stage it…! And this is the dramatic reveal they went with. It seems like a bizarre staging, lol. “I am the Armored Titan, and this guy is the Colossal Titan!” It sounded like nonsense, lol. But the author apparently loved that staging, lol. ― Look at this one, he’s cute~
― Cute? lol ― This is the ugliest Titan, isn’t it?
― Really? lol (He has very unique tastes, lol) Wow… it’s so pretty. This space is a dream for any fan. Hearing the author’s thought process like this… It’s amazing. He was really a Titan himself, lol. And that’s why he wrote it like this, lol. The story and the setting are so well detailed. It rivals “Fullmetal Alchemist”— since then, it’s been the anime I’ve been obsessed with. This is… sigh… ― Anyway, go watch it!!
― (laughs) ― Hurry and watch it!
― Yes, yes~~ lol Since “Fullmetal Alchemist,” this is the first anime I’ve been completely obsessed with. This is… sigh… ― Just watch it already!!
― (laughs) ― Hurry up and watch it!
― Okay, okay~ (laughs) (They even have a Colossal Titan figure, lol) (It looks so cute up close… haha) From here the story suddenly shifts, and the Marley arc honestly felt a bit dull… But once you get past that part, it’s absolutely intense! And then… sigh… when Eren reappears… it’s a dopamine explosion scene…!!! They said they included that slow Marley arc just to make this moment hit so hard… It got a lot of criticism, haha. People complained about the sudden, dull Marley arc… But that one scene blew it all away!!! “Freedom~~~” In the end, Eren never got to taste freedom… Throughout all the manga volumes, the author’s comments are included, and there are so many photo spots— it was truly totally satisfying, right?! (Fans were like… in a dream…) (And at the end, souvenir shopping~) (Go ahead and splurge~) (The Ayu rice review is at the end—don’t miss it~) They even have “Attack on Ayu Rice” and chocolate snacks, haha. Right in front is the Sapporo brewery, so if you’re interested, definitely stop by. And finally— I heard there’s a Levi statue in front of Hita Station, so I’ll finish the trip by checking that out. (The station front is so peaceful… haha) (And there’s Levi’s statue right in front!) Wow… it looks so cool. They say if you touch Levi’s boots, you become the strongest, haha. (Receiving the power of the Ackermans~) If you love “Attack on Titan,” Hita is a must-visit destination. It’s guaranteed to be an amazing trip~ I wholeheartedly recommend it! Truly~ Here, they’ve clearly posted directions and all kinds of info about “Attack on Titan,” so you can plan your trip using that. Everywhere you go, there’s Titan art, so everyone can enjoy the journey! I’ll be off to my next trip now! That’s it for today! Thank you for watching. Please subscribe, like, and turn on notifications. Give it a try, everyone! See you in the next video! (Now back in Korea…) Let’s try the rice meal made with Hita’s specialty~ Oh… they put raw rice right in there? (And a whole fish marinated in soy sauce) Just microwave it to finish… (Adding the rice) I wonder if it’ll taste good??? (Adding the fish too~) The look is a bit off, haha—but will it taste good~? (Microwaving for 5 minutes) (Oh… it actually improved?) And it smells like delicious fish stew! This is Hita’s specialty, “Ayu Kamameshi” (sweetfish rice pot) (sniff sniff) It’s just plain delicious… It smells like mackerel stew mixed into rice. (melancholic…) Hmm~?! Surprisingly insanely tasty??? It’s rice cooked in fish broth, after all, haha. I thought it’d be fishy, but it’s totally fine. Oh… this is a win! There are a lot of bones, but… they’re soft enough to crumble, so you can eat them whole… without any risk of choking. Enjoy it with mom’s homemade kkakdugi~ (The kimchi pairing is absolutely perfect!!) (I highly recommend buying this as a souvenir when you visit Hita Town~)
