Hello everyone! I’m Naru! I visited Hachinohe and Oirase Gorge in Aomori Prefecture! Hachinohe, which we’re visiting today, along with Aomori City and Hirosaki City, forms one of the major cities in the Nanbu region of Aomori Prefecture! Hachinohe Port is one of Japan’s leading fishing ports! It’s particularly rich in squid and mackerel catches, and “Hachinohe Mae-oki Saba” (mackerel) is a brand product that’s popular nationwide You can fully enjoy fresh seafood caught at Hachinohe Port at Hasshoku Center! Hachinohe has one of Japan’s largest morning market cultures! The Tatehana Pier Morning Market that appears every Sunday is a spectacular sight with about 300 stalls lined up along an 800-meter stretch Along the coastline, there are also Kabushima Shrine, Ashige-saki Observatory, Tanesashi Coast, and other attractive spots! Lake Towada and Oirase Gorge are scenic spots representing Towada-Hachimantai National Park! Lake Towada is a caldera lake formed by volcanic activity that began about 200,000 years ago, and it shines with a beautiful blue color called “Towada Lake Blue” From Nenokuchi on the shore of Lake Towada to Yakeyama, the stream that continues for about 14 kilometers is Oirase Gorge! About access The Tohoku Shinkansen serves Hachinohe Station, Tokyo to Hachinohe takes about 3 hours Regarding Hachinohe’s main stations, Hachinohe Station is the Shinkansen terminal, while Hon-Hachinohe Station is the nearest to the city center You can access Kabushima Shrine and Tanesashi Coast via the JR Hachinohe Line To Lake Towada and Oirase Gorge area, JR buses “Mizuumi-go” and “Oirase-go” operate from Aomori Station, Shin-Aomori Station, and Hachinohe Station! We’ve arrived in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture! This time I’d like to enjoy Hachinohe and Oirase Previously I went to the Tsugaru region in Aomori City, but this time I’ll enjoy Hachinohe and Oirase in what’s called the “Nanbu region”♪ These two regions apparently have different climates, food cultures, and even dialects So I hope I can enjoy those differences Also, there’s a story that the Tsugaru and Nanbu regions don’t get along well I wonder if this is true? I’ve never heard of it! If anyone knows, please tell me about that too! First, let’s take a bus to Hasshoku Center We only have 5 minutes, so let’s hurry Hachinohe Station East Exit → Hasshoku Center
¥100, about 12 minutes “Hasshoku Center,” established in 1980, was created by volunteer merchants from Mutsu Minato as the kitchen of Hachinohe citizens! About 60 stores line up, offering everything from excellent seafood just caught at Hachinohe Port to Aomori’s specialty products! At the famous “Shichirin-mura” (Charcoal Grill Village), you can grill and taste fresh oysters, scallops, and squid that you’ve purchased over charcoal, and also enjoy local dishes like senbei soup Let me try the scallop The scallops are super big too! This big! Mmm!! Delicious!! It has a nice texture and is plump and delicious!! Maybe it’s because it’s grilled over charcoal? The grilling method seems really delicious! Better than eating at regular restaurants – maybe the heat conduction is better? The texture is great too!! Makes you want sake! This salt seasoning is perfect! So good! Delicious♪ Let’s keep eating! The time limit is 2 hours♪ We came near the hotel by bus! Going out to the city for dinner! A restaurant specializing in Hachinohe Mae-oki mackerel cuisine The signature menu “Hachinohe Mae-oki Silver Mackerel Marinated Bowl” won the Grand Prix at the National Local Donburi Championship for two consecutive years and was inducted into the hall of fame! Let’s eat! The marinated bowl is here! Looks delicious! So delicious looking!! The mackerel is this big! Isn’t it super thick!? Hachinohe is famous for mackerel, right? Mackerel caught at Hachinohe Port has rich fat and great flavor! Mmm!! Delicious!! Mm!! At first I thought it was delicious, but then it hit me even harder! This mackerel is so delicious! I think it’s slightly seared? That’s really delicious! It’s a sweet sauce that goes really well with mackerel!! So good~ I mean, it really hit me hard This is the first time for me! *laughs* Delicious!! Pretty hard! Really! Hard? Yeah! It’s not hard! Hardness varies by person, but I think it’s pretty hard… It’s salty and delicious! Does it go with butter? It goes with butter! Isn’t it like a snack? Like a hard version of potato chips? *laughs* No? Delicious!! Nanbu region: flour culture, Tsugaru region: rice culture Due to the Yamase winds blowing in summer, it’s very harsh weather conditions for rice cultivation
Many dishes use wheat flour, buckwheat flour, and grains like millet and barnyard millet You understand, right? I don’t understand at all… It’s flour culture here! So sweet! These cuts make it easy to eat♪ Easy to bite! Wow! Sweet and delicious!! Since it’s slippery, it slides right in! *laughs* It looks slippery too! It looks really beautiful too!! Wow, delicious~!! It’s really shining! Each piece is thick! And they’re big too!! Let’s eat!! Mmm! So fluffy!! But the skin part is crispy The delicious fat from the mackerel… flows right into your mouth!! *laughs* It flows right into your mouth!! And this is salt-flavored That salt seasoning is delicious too!! The fat hits you, and you think it might be too fatty, but then the salt follows up and makes it refreshing! Delicious!! Exploring the night streets♪ Hachinohe is really bustling! There are lots of bars It’s a bit retro It has a Showa-era feel which is also nice♪ It definitely has atmosphere If we didn’t have to get up early tomorrow, I’d want to bar hop more! *laughs* Really It’s lively and fun♪ Surprised! This much Yeah! I didn’t expect the night to be this lively Light-flavored and perfect for ending the meal♪ A viewer told me about this! 🙏
Heading to the bus stop to go to “Tatehana Pier Morning Market”! There’s a bus stop closest to the hotel, but there’s a first bus stop (Jusanninichi) if we walk a bit, so we’re heading there! If you want to definitely catch the first bus, it’s better to board from “Jusanninichi Bus Stop”!! Sunday Morning Market Circular Bus “Isaba-go”
¥200, about 15 minutes The bus was incredibly crowded!! “Tatehana Pier Morning Market,” which began in 2004, runs every Sunday from March to December, starting at dawn! From Hachinohe’s fresh seafood to excellent fried foods and fresh-baked bread, attractive items are all gathered here, and it continues to be loved through warm self-management by local agriculture, fishery, and commerce industry people It’s really bustling! There are lots of shops and so many people! We lined up at the Towada-yaki xiaolongbao stall! We were drawn by the good smell! Let’s buy some! The turnover is surprisingly fast! A specialty of the morning market! This doesn’t come out much usually! Want to try kushimochi? I wanted to try the fried chicken wings, but gave up due to the long line 😂 Most shops accept cash payments! Wow! Amazing! Xiaolongbao? It’s crispy! Mmm! Looks delicious! So much meat juice is overflowing! This is really delicious! There was such a long line! It really is popular! This dough is really delicious! It’s chewy but the surface is crispy! And is it garlic? Or chives? It’s really flavorful and delicious! We should have bought more! So delicious! Shockingly delicious! This mochi can only be eaten at the morning market, they said! So filling! Is it miso? Yeah! Delicious!! It’s grilled with miso spread on it! It’s similar to suitor! Similar to suitor dough and chewy and delicious♪ Nanbu senbei with red bean rice sandwiched in it! I was so curious I bought it! I mean sandwiching (red bean rice) in senbei – what does that mean? It’s mysterious! Yeah! It’s kind of salty! It feels salty! But the red beans are sweet so it’s a strange taste! I’d like to eat it with sake! Yeah! Strange taste! The red bean rice is sweet and the senbei is salty! The senbei was chewy and delicious!! There was a line for Nanbu senbei soup! The long-awaited senbei soup! Isn’t there a lot of ingredients? It has so much in it! Delicious!! Such a gentle flavor!! It’s a flavor with mackerel broth!! It doesn’t taste like miso! It’s not miso soup! Is it miso soup? It tastes like soy sauce or something like that Oh, interesting!! I thought (senbei) was in miso soup! That’s true Found senbei!! It’s become soft! It’s soft and tender and very easy to eat and the broth has soaked in and it’s delicious!! Senbei soup is delicious!! Number one of the day!! But I’m torn between this and the xiaolongbao! Wow! This is really delicious!! The Nanbu dialect radio exercises had great flavor♪ Tatehana Pier Morning Market → Mutsu-Minato Station
Walking about 10 minutes
※Be careful – there are no restrooms!! Mutsu-Minato Station → Same Station
¥150, about 5 minutes 🚌 Same Station → Kabushima Beach Park 🚌
About 2 minutes We took a bus and came right in front of Kabushima Shrine! What you can see behind me is Kabushima Shrine! A shrine with over 700 years of history worshipping Benzaiten It’s said to bring blessings for business prosperity and fishing safety Because “kabu” (turnip) in Kabushima and “kabu” (stocks) have the same reading,
it’s said to bring blessings for rising stock prices and popularity.
The “Kabu-agari Hyotan” (rising luck gourd) charm is popular! I want that charm~! Why? Do you trade stocks? The popularity one? *laughs it off* 🤣 As you can hear from here, this is Japan’s largest breeding ground for over 30,000 black-tailed gulls They’re characterized by their “meow meow” cries! So they go “meow meow”! Is that why they’re called “umi-neko” (sea cats)? Isn’t it scary with so many? People who are afraid of birds might find this terrifying… If black-tailed gull droppings fall on you, it’s said to bring good luck! They interpreted it positively! Many people are using umbrellas Should we use one too? Scary! It smells like birds! They don’t run away at all Amazing! They’re even in the shrine grounds! Charm purchased!! There were baby black-tailed gulls too!! Why are they so beautiful…? There are more black-tailed gulls than people An island ruled by black-tailed gulls But it’s really worth seeing! Please come and see it!! You can see the yellow flowers blooming now, but apparently even more canola flowers bloom in May! Kabushima Beach Park → Ashige-saki Observatory
About 10 minutes Ashige-saki Observatory served as a lookout post for foreign ships during the end of the Edo period! At the end of WWII, the Japanese military established a lookout post here! It was used as a military strategic point! At the end of WWII, there was a naval radar base here This round shape utilizes that foundation! The green and blue are beautiful♪ I ordered a seafood bowl This restaurant has an amazing view! Ocean view♪ Thick scallop! Seaweed is spread underneath too! Mmm! Delicious! Delicious! The salmon roe is plump too! The grains are firm and delicious! It feels really fresh! Being close to the ocean is really nice♪ The coast was beautiful♪ It was incredibly beautiful! Driving here would be fun! Is this part of the Michinoku Coastal Trail? It seems like it! A 1,000km nature trail connecting Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture to Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture Not the whole thing, but we could walk part of it! I don’t have the stamina to walk the whole thing… *laughs* Shall we go back? Let’s return to Hachinohe!! Next, let’s head this way We enjoyed Hachinohe’s streets on the second night too♪ Rented a car and headed to Lake Towada, about 1 hour 50 minutes So beautiful!! We arrived at the Lake Towada observatory! You can see Lake Towada and the Hakkoda Mountains! A double caldera lake spanning Aomori and Akita prefectures Do you understand what a double caldera lake is? I don’t understand! A double caldera lake is formed by two major eruptions long ago So because an eruption happened within an eruption, it’s terrain like a pot within a pot The water seems deep, and it’s Japan’s third deepest lake So we’ve come to Lake Towada~!! The view from this observatory is really beautiful♪ Today, I’d like to explore around Lake Towada! Nice weather♪ Really good weather! Oh! There’s a sightseeing boat too! Let’s eat!! Wakasagi (Japanese smelt), since that time We tried to eat it in Hakone but couldn’t! It’s been so long! *laughs* Yes! Finally we can eat it! Let’s eat! So delicious!! So delicious! It has eggs in it! Even though it’s this small, it has proper flavor and meat It’s really good! I thought it would be more hollow, but it has proper meat and is delicious! It was caught in Lake Towada! Delicious!! Is Himemasu (kokanee salmon) famous too? Himemasu is caught here too Himemasu tempura bowl! So delicious!! The sauce is sweet and delicious and the meat is really fluffy! Wow! Super delicious! Is the miso soup also Himemasu bones? Everything is delicious! The daikon radish is big and tasty Himemasu bone soup? Yeah! Delicious! A comforting flavor! Beautiful It’s so peaceful, isn’t it? Yeah The water is clear! You can see the bottom too! It’s a bluish green Really! Wow! So beautiful!! Wow! And it’s so wide! Lake Towada has the Towada Lake Legend, or rather, the Three Lakes Legend!! Like the Tatsuko Princess Legend? Yes, yes, yes! This is a love battle story of the lake masters First, there was a person named Hachiro Taro He was a hunter (matagi) but he ate too much char and became a dragon and created Lake Towada! Then a monk named Nansombo came and said “This is my place!” and had a big battle with Hachiro Taro for seven days and nights! Who do you think won? Hachiro Taro! You’d think so! Wrong! Nansombo, who came later, won! Poor Hachiro Taro, who originally lived here, had to move to “Hachiro-gata” Hachiro Taro, who was living there, fell in love with Tatsuko of Lake Tazawa! But again, Nansombo came and they had another big battle over Tatsuko! So who do you think won this time? Hachiro Taro! This time Hachiro Taro won! So this Lake Towada is Lake Towada: Protected by Nansombo as “Seiryu Daigongen” Hachiro-gata is Hachiro-gata: Hachiro Taro’s summer residence Lake Tazawa is Lake Tazawa: Where Hachiro Taro and Tatsuko spend winter together (so it doesn’t freeze) It’s said! The love battles of the lake masters unfolded across three lakes How about that? Amazing! Interesting, right! People in the old days were amazing They were so good at creating these kinds of stories! Let’s explore around Lake Towada♪ Statue of Maidens Standing on Nakayama Peninsula of Lake Towada, this is one of Tohoku’s leading power spots that has long gathered the faith of local people It’s known for the mystical “Uranai-ba” (fortune-telling place) where you float “oyori paper” on the lake to divine your wishes, and the magnificent cedar-lined approach is also attractive! The wood carving is so cool! You can feel the detailed craftsmanship! Really! It’s so chic and has such atmosphere! Because it suddenly appeared in the forest, it feels even more atmospheric! The view is amazing♪ Perfect! At Lake Towada It’s a bit hot though… *laughs* The wind is cold! The sunlight is strong! It feels so good~! Isn’t this amazing? The size of these apple pieces! And the pie is crispy!! Really! Let’s eat~! The apple is really sweet and sour and delicious! The pie is crispy and you can taste the butter! Yeah! Delicious~!! The apple pieces are large so it’s filling!! When you eat just the apple, it’s quite sweet! But when you eat it with the pie crust, it becomes just right♪ Good balance Wow! Delicious The location makes it even more delicious! Encountered a wild raccoon!! It didn’t look like Rascal… *laughs* Standing along Oirase Gorge, this is the only resort hotel in Japan featuring a huge fireplace chimney designed by Taro Okamoto and hot springs from the Hakkoda Mountains! Today’s room is this room! East Wing♪ Wow! Spacious! Bigger than I expected!! Amazing! The greenery is beautiful!! Wow! Isn’t this spacious? Amazing! You can see the greenery Oh! You can see the river a little!! On the walls there’s wood You can feel the warmth of wood! First time at “Hoshino Resort” That’s right… Let’s enjoy Hoshino Resort to the fullest!! There’s drip coffee and tea! Really! The refrigerator is… Oh! There’s water! It’s not in plastic bottles!! That’s unusual! I would have preferred plastic bottles! *laughs* There’s a plastic bottle-free initiative! I see, they’re being environmentally conscious! Amazing! I was thinking of getting water for tomorrow’s trekking! *laughs* Dinner is buffet style♪ There’s apparently one real apple among the ones in this showcase! Lots of dishes using apples! Naru’s creation Masa’s creation (apparently lots of vegetables… 🤣) Let’s eat! The kitchen is really bustling! So many people and so many types of dishes Let me try this grilled dish they made live! There was watermelon!! Watermelon!? They were grilling watermelon! They said it’s delicious with salt! Yeah! Delicious!! So sweet!! Delicious!! It became sweeter!! I don’t taste any greasiness! The cuts made it really easy to eat! There was nokke-don, right? Nokke-don too! I made nokke-don too! I put on so much! You can enjoy both seafood and meat♪ The roast beef was grilled on the spot♪ There were about 3 types of apple juice! There were Orin, Tsugaru, and Fuji! The colors were different! I’d like to try telling the difference! *laughs* Aren’t you good at it? *laughs* I wonder if I can tell? So let’s try the taste test challenge!! Fuji or Tsugaru or Orin, right? It’s one in three! First, let me check the smell! Checking the taste… I know this!! No way! Let’s say it on three! Tsugaru!! How did you know!? Well, I can tell! I can tell! It felt like Tsugaru! *laughs* Have you eaten Tsugaru before? I think so… Tsugaru is a summer apple! So I felt a bit of summer-ness! That’s impossible… Isn’t that amazing? Isn’t that amazing? But it really felt like (Tsugaru)! Self-praise☆ Apple pie covering the bowl Wow! It’s crispy! There’s lots of apple inside! Delicious!! There’s sponge cake in it too, look! So delicious!! The soft cream is amazing! It’s apple! This is apple soft cream! This is a collaboration too! I put it on myself! Yeah! Delicious!! Hot and cold and salty I could eat all of them alternately forever! Senbei soup Masa conquered all types of desserts! *laughs* We went to explore the hotel! You can drink beverages too! You can enjoy the murmuring of the stream♪ There seems to be a lamp-making experience too! Breakfast is in the same venue as dinner! Delicious-looking breads!! A woman combining soup, nokke-don, and coffee! *laughs* The French toast is really delicious!! Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside!! They were grilling it at the live kitchen! Super delicious!! There was ramen too! You can enjoy morning ramen too!! Really so many varieties! Completely different from last night! That’s true! So many varieties! First time at Hoshino Resort
The baths and food were amazing♪ Our hotel stay was just a moment! 😂*laughs* I wanted to relax more! I wanted to relax more! Check-out is until 12 o’clock Then definitely a tour would be good Using a tour would be good too! Using the stream shuttle bus would be good too! A shuttle bus connecting the hotel and the middle area of Oirase Gorge, convenient for walking The shuttle bus goes to the main spots so it’s good to just use that! This time’s transportation method for Oirase Gorge!! First, we drove from Oirase Gorge Hotel to Nenokuchi and parked the car here! From here we took the JR bus and moved to Ishigeto! From Ishigeto to Kumoi Falls, we explored the central area of Oirase Gorge on foot! About 3km, about 60 minutes! After enjoying Kumoi Falls, we took the bus again to Oirase Gorge’s biggest highlight, Choshi Falls! From Choshi Falls to Nenokuchi at Lake Towada, we walked about 1.5 kilometers in about 30 minutes back The sky is reflected on Lake Towada’s surface!! We came to Nenokuchi parking lot! We parked our car here! Behind me is Lake Towada! There’s mist and it’s incredibly beautiful this morning!! Really beautiful!! Yeah! Amazing! Yesterday we saw the lake in sunny weather, but today there’s morning mist and it’s so beautiful!! It looks like a goddess might appear! The gorge stream starts from here too! Yes! The water flow of Oirase Gorge flows from Lake Towada It’s mysterious! I thought it was the opposite! It flows down from here To see the intense flow of Oirase Gorge, it’s better to walk toward Lake Towada! 🙆‍♀️ What’s Masa’s enthusiasm? Eh? What’s Masa’s enthusiasm? Confused by the sudden unreasonable request… *laughs* You don’t have any!? No enthusiasm! Then what’s today’s goal? To shoot beautiful footage!! Excellent!! Mine is to meet wild animals! Isn’t that just luck! Maybe there are squirrels! That’s my goal!! The JR bus has a payment system when you get off! Nenokuchi → Ishigeto
¥550, about 20 minutes We arrived at Ishigeto! We’ll start trekking from here! There’s a restroom, so let’s stop by! “Oirase Gorge,” designated as a scenic spot and natural monument in 1928, is a clear stream of about 14km flowing from Lake Towada The gorge beauty of moss-covered rocks is selected as a two-star spot in the Michelin Green Guide! We suddenly came to a place with very strong river flow! Water is splashing up and flowing down with a roaring sound Moss is growing on the rocks too Amazing! Nature is amazing!! Wow! It could be used in a commercial! Makes you want to dip just your feet! This gorge is really close to the road! So you can see it a bit from cars too making the gorge feel like a familiar presence The path is well-maintained and easy to walk! The distance to the river is really close!! We came to Ashura-no-nagare (Ashura Stream) We’re here! The force of the flow is amazing here! The most amazing! Like a training place! *laughs* Two water flows are merging The water spray is beautiful! This is a famous spot that’s been used in various photos! Oirase is one of only three places in Japan… designated as “Nature’s Triple Crown”! *Cheating* Special Protection Zone Special Protection Zone, Natural Monument Special Protection Zone, Natural Monument, Special Scenic Spot Having the three titles of Special Protection Zone, Natural Monument, and Special Scenic Spot! You said only three places in Japan, right? Nature’s Triple Crown – Oirase Gorge and what are the other two?? Kamikochi and, what could it be? Should I give you a hint? Something in Miyazaki? Takachiho? Somewhere in Toyama Prefecture! Amaharashi Coast? No! Tateyama Alpine Route! Final answer? The correct answer is! Wrong!! No way! Not Alpine Route!? Not Murodo? Kamikochi, Kurobe Gorge Kamikochi, Kurobe Gorge, and Oirase Gorge are Nature’s Triple Crown! A 25m tiered waterfall Kumoi Falls → Choshi Falls
¥330, about 10 minutes We warped to Choshi Falls! Warp by bus! It’s really crowded here! It’s popular! Buses are stopped here, amazing! Choshi Falls is 7 meters high and 20 meters wide! This waterfall is also called “Uo-dome-no-taki” (Fish-stopping Falls)! It blocks fish from swimming upstream to Lake Towada!! They can’t go up this! But thanks to that, Lake Towada’s ecosystem is uniquely preserved! No one can go up? Right! They can’t go up! Amazing! There are benches occasionally♪ As we get closer to Lake Towada, the water becomes clearer! There were fish!! We’re here now! Almost at the bus stop! Yay! Almost there! We walked a lot!! We walked from Ishigeto to Kumoi Falls and from Choshi Falls to Nenokuchi! This side had fewer people and the river was cleaner This side had lots of highlights If you have time, it’s good to walk both♪ If you had to choose one to walk, which would you recommend? Then the right one? This side (Ishigeto → Kumoi Falls) has more highlights It feels more like Oirase Gorge! Ishigeto → Kumoi Falls
You can enjoy the Oirase Gorge feeling!! We reached Lake Towada~!! We walked a lot! The weather is a bit cloudy and it’s hazy over there, but that’s nice too♪ It has atmosphere!! Ah~! So beautiful!! Reward moss soft cream! Kamikochi in Aomori!! Towada Bara-yaki (Towada Rose Grilled Beef) The sweet and savory sauce goes great with rice!!! Thank you for watching!!

  15. I look forward to enjoy this new and long video from you Naru-San. Tatehana morning market in Hachinohe is a place I very much would like to visit. However, we can travel to Japan only in March, and the market opens only in April, so I guess I will just have to enjoy the market thrue videos.

Sorry

  20. Hello dear Naru.
I watched your video with great pleasure.
What a fantastic landscape you got in japan.
    Incredibly beautiful.
The videos are allways very very good. And what you do and howe you do it is full of information. I like it very much. What you do is very good and very charming.
I'm really looking forward to the next videos.
And something else, your new red hair looks beautiful. 😊
I wish you a beautiful day and all the best. 🇩🇪 🇯🇵
    🙏🌻🌈👋😊

    BOOOO!
