Ultimate freshness: dancing live squid rice bowl Pour the soy sauce to see the squid dance?! Shall we pour it now? (*wobble wobble*) Wait a second The squid is… looking at me T_T Bon appétit! ♥ I really like squid, you know You said yesterday that squid was your favorite This is the taste! Is it different from Korean squid? Well, there’s fun in watching it too… (oops!) Sorry for saying it’s fun… T_T Look it in the eyes when you talk to it..! But seriously, I’ve never had a live squid rice bowl like this in Korea So it’s a fun experience, and it tastes really good too ♥ In my opinion, Hakodate squid is a bit more tender A fresh start to the day with a bowl of live squid rice Since it’s best to come in the morning, I think it’s worth trying—it’s definitely worth it Is waking up early worth it?
– Yes..! That didn’t sound too confident Highly recommended for a morning itinerary! Gamgyul’s tip!

A charming market where you can experience fresh seafood and Hakodate’s rich ingredients I love markets Even these cod roes look so fresh
– Looks delicious ♥ Look at that crab! It’s huge! ♥ It’s a mega-mega-mega-mega king crab! I think I’ll try some crab later
– Really? What kind of shrimp is this again?
– It’s delicious as sashimi ~ Is it good as sashimi? I love sashimi~ ♥ The energy of the morning market begins at the fingertips of the busy vendors Gamgyul’s tip:
Bring plenty of cash! (Card payments may not be accepted) You’ll want to withdraw plenty of cash before coming What kind of imperial fruit is this—5,000 won for that much? Price shock… The king of Japanese melons: Yubari Melon Found my love—squid Oh! I want to try this~ Have a taste~ You can sample squid?! Kind of like dried filefish? Oh my, I have to buy this! ~ Generous vendor service ~ Thank you~ Perfect as a snack! Squid jerky purchased! [Ekini Market]

There are self-camera stands throughout—perfect for great shots! Time to take some selfies There’s a teacup attached?!
(I really can’t lift it lol) Ready, and click! Can you take one more photo? So many photo spots all around! We can’t just walk past! We’re going to take some photos now They come out so nicely All huddled up for photos! How does this work? So elegant ~ A vintage afternoon tea room filled with British vibes A slow sip of serenity ~ afternoon tea set Soft and creamy classic cheesecake (Happy back view, pouring tea~) It’s so, so pretty (Elegantly ~ cutely!) A relaxing tea time by the sunlit window After enjoying with your eyes, take a fragrant sip of tea It’s so warm, and the aroma is amazing ♥ (Feeling calm ♥) A healthy flavor..! Now it’s time for the cheesecake A melt-in-your-mouth classic cheesecake Classic scone, warm and rich in butter aroma Spread a dollop of butter on top! The scone is delicious too! It’s a perfect 100! Diligent Jaein takes a big bite with jam and butter Everything was great, but Suyeon’s favorite was the classic cheesecake (Gonna add lots of milk to the tea hehe) Is that all milk now? Sorry, is that even tea anymore? Oh?! It’s good! A satisfying afternoon tea for both eyes and taste buds [Former British Consulate of Hakodate]

A signature natural site in Hakodate where you can take in towering cliffs surrounded by the sea This is exhausting—Suyeon’s Day! The wind is really strong, kind of like Jeju Island
– Yeah, feels like Jeju! Blown by the fierce wind, we arrive at a strangely familiar yet unfamiliar view But wow, it really is beautiful
– So beautiful A breathtaking view that clears your mind This place is no joke Oh no, we might just blow away…! Live from the scene—Reporter Suyeon! How’s it looking out there? Sorry, my mouth’s dry from the wind lol [Cape Tachimachi]

– Yes, I’m exhausted That’s why I arranged a foot bath!
– We can foot soak here? Gamgyul’s tip!
You can enjoy a hot spring foot bath at the botanical garden
Foot towels available at the ticket counter Feels like it’ll be warm~ Ah! It’s hot! I’m warm
– It’s too hot for me..!! It’s getting cozier~
– Oh, I think I’m okay now Let’s enjoy the foot bath for 10 minutes Can’t we stay a little longer?
– No, we’ve got to move on, so 10 minutes it is! Soaking our feet in hot spring water, melting away today’s fatigue I asked while buying the towel—they said this area’s a hot spring village [Yunokawa Onsen Village]
Located in the 300-year-old Yunokawa hot spring district, just 5 mins by car from Hakodate Airport Gamgyul’s tip!
If you’re visiting the botanical garden, consider staying in Yunokawa Onsen Village too They said this water comes directly from the hot springs—that’s why it’s so warm I picked three things to do at the botanical garden—first was the foot bath, next we’re touring the greenhouse Shall we head in? Time to explore the tropical botanical garden! An indoor garden filled with a wide variety of tropical plants and an exotic atmosphere I read that it gives off exotic vibes, and it’s so true Whoa, look at the turtles..!
– It’s staring at you…! Are you looking at me? Oh? It is! That one’s definitely been staring at me since earlier There are birds too
– Parrots? (Colorful and beautiful parrots) Filled with vibrant, tropical flowers from the South Oh?! This flower is so cute Guess who’s the flower~ This one! Hahahaha Guess who’s the flower lol
– Wanna get smacked by a flower?! Off to see the highlight of the garden — the monkeys! Since it’s the start of spring, unfortunately we won’t see them soaking in the hot spring [Monkey Hot Spring]
A popular winter attraction where you can watch monkeys relax in warm water Are there real monkeys here? Wow! The monkeys are slowly appearing!
– They’re so cute~ Hi there, little guys~!
– These monkeys are adorable!! That one sleeping is hilarious—it’s just like me! Gamgyul’s tip!
Monkey feed available for 100 yen at the ticket booth! Here, I’ll toss one—1, 2, 3! Monkey picks it up like a pro Is it tasty?
– (Short and firm reply) It clapped! Great reaction! If you clap again, I’ll give you more
– That’s right! Okay, one more time! Clap! (Clap clap clap) [Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden]
★ Recommended for relaxing foot baths during your trip
★ A peaceful stroll among exotic plants
★ Bonus: watching cute monkeys They’re so cute—seriously, so cute You’re starting to feel a little hungry now, right?
– Totally Then let’s head off for lunch to a place I’ve carefully selected!
– Let’s go eat right now! Hakodate Tropical Botanical Garden → Ajisai Main Branch (Tram + walk, ~47 minutes) [Ajisai Main Branch]
Address: 29-22 Goryokakucho
Hours: 11:00 AM – 8:25 PM
Feature: The flagship store of Ajisai, the pioneer of shio (salt-based) ramen [Ajisai Main Branch]
A signature destination for Hakodate-style shio ramen, loved by locals and tourists alike This place is one of Hokkaido’s top 3 ramen spots! Their most famous dish—Shio Ramen We ordered the special menu with all the toppings included Apparently locals here call fried chicken “zangi” instead of karaage
And they say this dish is amazing! So we ordered a bit of everything to try! It’s delicious!
– How is it? Is it good? But it doesn’t taste salty—it tastes more like broth? Mmm~ light yet packed with umami! Kind of like bean sprout soup! Doesn’t it taste like bean sprout soup with oil in it? Slurping it up fast~ This shop made salt ramen go viral nationwide
(Totally understandable) When we think of karaage (fried chicken), We picture small bite-sized pieces, but these are huge! So good. This is *so* good! Gamgyul’s tip:
Add a dash of vinegar and pepper, then dip your gyoza—extra clean and savory flavor! It tastes even better dipped!
(No strong vinegar taste~) Vinegar dip—how is this *so* good?!
(Totally into gyoza ♥) Locals eat it this way—definitely try this vinegar & pepper combo for your gyoza! [Ajisai Main Branch]
★ Customize your shio ramen with extra toppings
★ Pair your ramen with “zangi” (Hokkaido-style fried chicken) for a hearty meal
★ Dip your gyoza in vinegar + pepper = clean and savory taste! Ajisai Main Branch → Goryokaku & Goryokaku Tower (1 min walk) Jaein, did you enjoy your meal?
– It was amazing A 1-minute walk from the ramen shop, and we’re already at our next stop! [Goryokaku & Goryokaku Tower]
Address: 43-9 Goryokakucho
Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Tower) [Goryokaku & Goryokaku Tower]
The observation deck overlooks all of Goryokaku Park, Mount Hakodate, Tsugaru Strait, Yokotsu Mountains, and the iconic star-shaped fortress We bought our tickets—now we’re headed up the tower! The elevator is so stylish Do I look like “Lee Jaein” to you? Inside the elevator: illustrations of historic Goryokaku figures This looks just like the photos online! A perfect place to see the star shape from above Perfect for cherry blossom viewing—park full of cherry trees If we had come just a bit earlier, we could’ve shown you the cherry blossoms too Gamgyul’s tip:
Cherry blossoms in spring, lush green in summer, colorful foliage in fall, and snow in winter—beautiful views all year round! Even those pine trees are beautiful The landscaping is breathtaking Jaein, over there is the Cape Tachimachi we visited earlier And our next destination is… here! (Reveal coming soon) After viewing the tower, we came down to stroll through the beautiful park It’s lovely here. Can you hear the sounds around us? Birds chirping peacefully Sunlight filtering through the trees A gentle stroll under falling cherry blossoms
A moment that warms your heart Moments that sparkle like petals—
Capturing our spring memories [Goryokaku & Goryokaku Tower]
★ Tower offers full view of star-shaped Goryokaku Park
★ Stroll through the park after visiting the observation deck
★ Stunning scenery throughout the four seasons Goryokaku & Goryokaku Tower → Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck & Ropeway
(Tram + Ropeway + walk, ~5 mins) [Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck & Ropeway]
Address: 19-7 Motomachi
Hours: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Feature: Panoramic night view of Hakodate View of Hakodate’s cityscape,
surrounding sea, and mountains from above We’re heading to Mt. Hakodate’s observation deck—an absolute must-visit!
(Easy access by ropeway) No need to walk much
– Thank you
Let’s go! Gamgyul’s tip:
Be sure to scan the QR code for your ropeway ticket Smooth ropeway ride
(Thank you~) We’re going up really high! Let’s wave to the people coming down! Cheerful greetings to fellow riders ♥ Wow—they waved back! How are we this energetic all day long? Finally at the observation deck! Oh wow, it’s so beautiful~♥ It’s gorgeous! You can see everywhere we went today! Cool breeze, perfect mood~ Where city meets sea,
Hakodate bathed in starlit night We came up by ropeway, looked around a bit, went for a short stroll—and now the sun has already set
– It’s so beautiful *Gamgyul’s tip: Arrive at least 1 hour before sunset to get a good spot!*
Now I see why Suyeon brought me here This place is rated 3 stars by Michelin for tourism
Isn’t it just breathtaking?
(Michelin Green Guide Japan ★★★) Totally agree! [Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck & Ropeway]
★ View the sparkling city lights from Mt. Hakodate
★ Arrive an hour before sunset to catch both sunset and night view Mt. Hakodate Observation Deck & Ropeway → Daimon Yokocho Crab House
(Tram + ropeway + walk, ~30 mins) Alright, I’ll go first~ What more can I say? It’s so good! ♡ Melts in your mouth ♡
(It’s seriously delicious—so tender) King crab / snow crab steak This one’s even better!
– Really? From now on, I’m recommending Hakodate to everyone Daimon Yokocho Crab House
★ Loved by local office workers—so you get an authentic vibe
★ Highly recommend the king crab & snow crab steak! So Jaein, of all the places we visited today, which one was your favorite? Hmm… The Former British Consulate of Hakodate! I really loved it
– Yes, the afternoon tea was honestly so good, but the setting was just beautiful A calm and refined space where you can take stunning photos
(It was so photogenic!) For me, it was the tropical botanical garden with the bathing monkeys
(I want to see them again~) (A healing space in a packed itinerary)
– The weather was a bit chilly, so the foot bath was so comforting! Next time I come to Hakodate— I’ll make sure to visit in winter and see the monkeys bathing in the hot spring! I really want to see it Since we’ve got a long journey back tomorrow,
Suyeon’s Day ends here! We’re going to relax at the hotel’s public bath now~ Bye for now Ekini Market & Ikka-tei Tabiji → Former British Consulate → Cape Tachimachi → Tropical Botanical Garden → Ajisai Ramen → Goryokaku Tower & Park → Mt. Hakodate → Daimon Yokocho Crab House Time to return home with memories of Hakodate in our hearts Good morning, everyone!
A new day has arrived Sadly, today is our departure day **Option 1**: After visiting Sapporo → depart from New Chitose Airport
