It’s a perfect spot for a fun family outing! Sanqi Scenic Path in Yilan Sanqi Village is located in Dongshan Township, Yilan This area is known for its rice farming And retains a peaceful rural landscape A straight path cuts through the rice fields It stretches about 2 kilometers And features nine graceful S-shaped curves Earning it the nickname “Yilan’s version of Mr. Brown Avenue” From May to late June each year Golden waves of rice shimmer in the sunlight Attracting travelers from all around to take photos And enjoy the charm of the countryside The 2025 Sanqi Scenic Path Series Events Invite you to come take a walk And breathe in the rich scent of rice and earth Dongshan Station The design of Dongshan Station Was inspired by its old name, “Winter Melon Mountain” To match the elevated Yilan railway and Ecoark project Taiwan’s first railway station With a theme of leisure and tourism was built here The lower level houses the station building The upper level is the train tracks The plaza in front of the station also features artistic design So when you step out of the station You’re immediately greeted by beautiful surroundings Don’t forget to look to the right front side of the station A row of colorful “Rainbow Houses” catches the eye It’s also one of the most Instagram-worthy spots for visitors Luodong Forestry Culture Park Luodong Forestry Culture Park Locals often call it “Luodong Forest Station” It’s free to enter and open to the public Originally established in 1924 as “Luodong Branch Office” Until 2009 It was reborn as the “Luodong Forestry Culture Park” The park still features Timber ponds, forest railways, locomotives, and other forestry facilities There are also cultural shops, exhibition halls, and children’s centers Lush greenery and rich ecology line the walkways It’s a great spot for a family visit Just across from the park is a must-try eatery A local favorite called “Forest Pork Thick Soup” This old shop has been around for over 50 years And holds a special place in many people’s memories They use black pork Mixed with a special marinade and fish paste The pork is springy and smooth And the soup is rich and flavorful When visiting Luodong Forest Station Be sure to try this traditional local taste 11:52 AM Taking the EMU3000 No. 422 express train From Luodong to Hualien During this ride, one of the most memorable things is how the railway runs right along the eastern coastline. The deep blue ocean accompanies you through the window. Waves crash onto the shore, blending sea and sky. It feels like the train is racing across the sea. 12:23 PM While enjoying the stunning view, we unknowingly arrived at Hualien Station. Hualien Station features an open-air design, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. The “Red-faced Duck” art installation out front is a standout. We plan to explore Hualien for about 3 hours. First stop—renting a scooter! The staff at the rental shop were super friendly. They found out we were filming in Hualien and kindly recommended a sightseeing route nearby. They also reminded us that it might rain today and mentioned that raincoats are already in the seat compartment. “Don’t forget to wear them if it rains!” General’s Residence 1936 Known locally as the “General’s Residence,” this riverside Japanese-style dormitory was built in 1936 during Japan’s rule of Taiwan. Hence the name “General’s Residence 1936.” The nickname “General’s Residence” comes from the fact that it was the official residence of Colonel Nakamura, Hualien’s top military commander at the time. Locals weren’t familiar with his exact rank, only that he held high status. So they simply referred to him as “the general.” The site still preserves traditional Japanese-style buildings and features 150-year-old trees and an ecological pond. More and more businesses are opening in the General’s Residence area, bringing new life to this historic site. It’s now a great spot to enjoy culture, nature, and food. Hualien Railway Cultural Park The park is divided into two sections: Building 1 and Building 2. We first visited Hall 1. This site was once the Hualien Port Branch Office, overseeing rail and road transport in eastern Taiwan. It handled administrative tasks and supervised construction and operations of the eastern rail line. When Emily visited today, there was a new book talk event happening at the entrance. However, most other areas were either not open to the public yet or blocked off with curtains, so we couldn’t go inside. At the very back, there was a space called the “Hualien Railway Cinema,” but it was also closed. So, Emily took everyone to check out Building 2 instead. Building 2 is just across the street from Building 1, very close by. To the left of the entrance, you’ll see an LDT-103 steam locomotive on display, along with a narrow-gauge wooden boxcar, model LCC5006. For vintage train lovers, this is a great photo spot! As you continue walking deeper into the park, you’ll find a small detention room. In the past, this was used along the eastern railway to hold thieves, traffic violators, and accident suspects. Other than that, most parts of the park seemed unrestored or still closed. What a pity—it could be a wonderful place. An-Kou Restaurant Today Emily visited “An-Kou Restaurant,” a highly recommended spot by netizens. This An-Kou Restaurant downtown branch is located on the second floor of Huaguotang. The name “An-Kou Restaurant” comes from how everyone calls the owner “Uncle.” So they named it “An-Kou,” which sounds friendly and fun. After retiring, the owner moved back home and began serving the homemade dishes he used to cook for his family, using fresh local ingredients from Hualien. He hopes everyone can slow down, eat well, and enjoy the moment. Today Emily ordered two of their most popular dishes: “Relaxed Fish Set Meal” and “Lucky Beef Noodles.” Don’t you want to try these simple yet heartwarming flavors too? 16:01 We’re taking the EMU3000 Express Train No. 324 from Hualien to Taitung. Did you notice? After lunch, I didn’t film the return trip at all. No scooter footage, no train arrival shots either. Because I almost missed the train! I was too immersed in lunch, and time flew by. I rushed to return the scooter and had only a few minutes left. I ran all the way back to Hualien Station. Just as I sighed in relief for making it, I looked up and saw my reflection in the glass… Oh no~ I still had the helmet on my head 😱 Disaster! If I missed this train, our whole itinerary and hotel booking would be ruined. I was stunned for several seconds. Then luckily I got an idea— I immediately handed the helmet to a shop on the first floor of the station for safekeeping, and called the rental company to pick it up. Sorry about that 😌 17:44 We’ve arrived at Taitung Station. As soon as we arrived, we heard a broadcast: “Heavy rain hits Hualien.” “Landslides block the tracks.” Northbound trains are temporarily suspended. We just took the train from Hualien! It was only drizzling at the time. Can’t believe things got so serious so fast. That escalated quickly. Luckily, it’s not raining here in Taitung. We rented electric-assisted YouBikes at the station, and Emily is going to take you to “Lai Lai Steakhouse” on Xinsheng Road for dinner. Emily already reserved a 7 PM table. It takes about 20 minutes by YouBike from the station. The wind is super strong. Hope it’s not about to rain here too… There’s still a bit of time before 7 PM. Emily is taking you to the plaza in front of TTstyle Creative House. It’s Sunday night now, and it’s super lively. The vibe is really nice here! After exploring the plaza, I’m starting to feel hungry again. Let’s go get that steak! “Lai Lai Steakhouse” was founded in 1988. They have branches in Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung. Set meals here are all under 600 NTD. You can add extra noodles for free, and the black tea is refillable too! (Reservations are highly recommended.) (The lights on the YouBike e-bike are really bright 👍) Because of the heavy rain in Hualien, train schedules in Taitung were also affected. Our 8:49 PM train was delayed by 25 minutes. 21:14 (originally 20:49) Boarding Tze-Chiang EMU3000 Train No. 434 From Taitung to Taimali The carriage suddenly got really crowded. Due to the rail breakage in Hualien, many passengers heading north had to reroute via Taitung and transfer to high-speed rail to get back to Taipei. (Such a tough day for them!) 21:34 Finally arrived at Taimali Station. The platform was completely silent and empty. We decided to speed up and head out quickly. In the distance—maybe that’s Hualien’s direction? Lightning just kept flashing nonstop. Wow, such a quiet street— There’s literally no one around. Hi everyone! Sorry for the shaky footage— It’s so deserted at night. I’m jogging to the hotel while filming. Tonight we’re staying at “Sunrise Hotel”. It’s a 3-star hotel about 550 meters from Taimali Station. Only a 7-minute walk. Want to see what the room looks like? It has a minimalist design— clean and cozy. Next time you’re in Taimali, you might want to give it a try! Hi~ Good morning, everyone! It’s just past 4 AM now. We’re heading out to catch the Taimali sunrise—the first light in Taiwan. This morning, we rented a scooter from the hotel and are heading to our first stop in Taimali. In the Paiwan language, “Taimali” means “The place where the sun rises.” So this township is also called “The Land of Sunrise”. Now that we’re here, Emily definitely can’t miss the spectacular sunrise view. Millennium Sunrise Memorial Park The name “Millennium Sunrise Memorial Park” comes from January 1, 2000— when the world welcomed the 21st century with celebration. A huge sunrise music festival was held right here on the Taimali beach. It was even broadcast live with 25 countries around the world, making this coastline a global focal point at the time. Huayuan Bay On the way to Huayuan Bay, you’ll pass the 382K mark on Provincial Highway 9. It’s known as “the most beautiful 2-minute drive in Taiwan.” Huayuan Bay lies between the Central Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean. It’s also a perfect place to watch the sunrise. On clear days, you can even see Green Island and Orchid Island. The blue sea, clear sky, and smooth beach let you enjoy tropical vibes without leaving the country. Huayuan Sky Mirror Huayuan Sky Mirror is actually a perfectly located agricultural water reservoir. In the early morning, the sky mirror sparkles like a sapphire. Compared to the view at noon, when you look down on the M-shaped Huayuan Bay, it’s a completely different vibe. It’s a soft, dreamy kind of morning beauty. Taimali Huayuan Sunrise Viewpoint This viewing platform has a wide open view. You can take in the entire M-shaped Huayuan Bay coastline. You can also overlook the winding South-Link Railway and Highway 9. In the early morning, light spills across the mountains and sea. Even the reflection of the letters “TAIMALI” lights up gently. Taimali really is full of stunning and surprising beauty. Taimali Fuxing Temple This is the only “Maneki-neko Earth God Temple” in Taiwan. It was already famous for its big red lanterns, earning the nickname “Taiwan’s Sensoji.” Now it even features a huge 2-meter tall lucky cat statue, perfect for photo ops. It’s now known as Taiwan’s cutest Earth God Temple. It’s finally 7:30 AM. I’m starving. Time for the hotel breakfast! I’m heading to eat now! 08:58 Taking the Tze-Chiang limited express EMU3000, train number 306 Taimali → Chaozhou Every time the train passes this coastline, I always feel especially happy. The blue coastline, the rolling white waves and the beautiful shore, I can’t help but admire it again and again. And that super popular check-in spot, “Duoliang Station,” (the “red railing” just now is the platform of Duoliang Station) is also located right on this charming coastline. 10:21 Arrived at Chaozhou Station. Have you been here before? This is the second largest station in Pingtung County, second only to Pingtung Station. This time, we specially chose to get off at Chaozhou. Because Emily is taking everyone to try local food around Chaozhou Station. (Again, riding YouBike electric bikes) The sun here is really no joke. “Bright sunshine,” “It’s so hot!” Everyone needs to drink plenty of water. Chaozhou Taro Mud This “Taro Mud” stall on Yuying Road in Chaozhou Town really surprises you. Don’t be fooled by its simple appearance. The owner uses aromatic Dajia taro. This time Emily ordered their signature “Taro Ice Heart.” Smooth and creamy taro paste paired with an icy texture, each bite is full of rich taro flavor. Nearby, there’s also “Taro Mung Bean.” Their mung bean milk is cool and smooth. The two together are just perfect. Shang Haojia-style fried rice noodles Emily loves fried rice noodles. This time, I heard there is a popular old shop in Chaozhou that serves “red” fried rice noodles. This simple old shop has been open for over 60 years. The menu includes various fried noodles, soup noodles, and boiled vegetables. There are also plenty of side dishes. This signature “red” fried rice noodles uses ketchup as the base seasoning. Then seafood, chives, shredded pork, and other ingredients are added. Stir-fried on high heat with an enticing aroma. The best part is this hearty dish costs only 70 NTD. If you like this nostalgic creative fried rice noodle, don’t miss it when you come to Chaozhou. Wenji Meatball Only 15 NTD each, with generous and authentic fillings. I’ve heard that in Pingtung’s Chaozhou, people not only love eating these hot steamed meatballs, but especially prefer them with garlic paste for extra flavor. Paired with a bowl of steaming pig’s blood soup, that’s considered the most authentic way to enjoy them~ Is that really true? Any friends from Chaozhou here willing to share their thoughts? 😅 Daimiao Fish Cake Speaking of food around Pingtung’s Chaozhou roundabout, “Daimiao Fish Cake” is definitely one of the local favorites. They use fresh sailfish to make the fish paste. Each fish cake is fragrant and flavorful. Not only fresh but also tastes of the sweet ocean. Emily bought two fish cakes this time. Ready to take on the train. Enjoying them slowly while riding. 12:03 Taking Puyuma Express, train number 124 Chaozhou → Taichung As soon as we board, the food time officially begins. This carriage is just for us. And it’s super cool inside. 14:30 That was fast! We’ve already arrived at Taichung Station. Every time I travel, it feels like everything moves at double speed. Taichung Railway Cultural Park This place is an important witness to Taichung’s railway history. It was originally the well-known Taichung Train Station. With the railway elevated, the third-generation new station opened in 2016. This century-old station completed a magnificent transformation, becoming a cultural park that combines history and innovation. The park covers about 2.9 hectares. Currently open areas include Tielu Street, Taichung Station, and the old platform, as well as spaces displaying several retired trains. It not only preserves the beauty of the century-old architecture, but also hosts markets, exhibitions, and performances. Making it a great spot for locals’ weekend leisure and family outings. The train arrived 10 minutes late. 15:38 Taking the Tze-Chiang Limited Express, train number 176 Taichung → Miaoli Traveling by train in Taiwan is just this convenient. In a short time, you can shuttle between city and countryside, connecting north and south. 16:14 Arriving at Miaoli Station Miaoli Station isn’t just beautiful on the outside, its design is also quite distinctive. The entire station uses a “cross-station” architecture, cleverly connecting the two ends of the city. It’s like an urban living room in the sky, spanning across the railway tracks. It’s also a hidden gem for railway fans and photography lovers. Miaoli Locomotive Park The park officially opened on April 25, 2025. It is Taiwan’s only train-themed park that combines Hakka culture with railway artifacts. When you come here, you must not miss the “Turntable Hall.” It displays the national treasure CT152 steam locomotive. The turntable operates at specific times, so don’t miss this scene! Another highlight is the “Train Exhibition Hall.” It showcases 12 historic locomotives, fully presenting Taiwan’s railway evolution. Besides the nostalgic atmosphere, the park also adds cute elements, centering on “Cats meeting Trains.” Creating a warm and healing little corner, perfect for photos and social media check-ins. Hanatori Japanese Cuisine This is a small shop specializing in Japanese food. Their focus is on exquisite rice bowls. Besides rice bowls, they also offer sushi, sashimi, grilled and fried dishes— all classic Japanese cuisine. Emily ordered the “Seared Caramel Salmon & Scallop Rice Bowl” for 438 TWD. She also ordered the “Scallop, Beef Short Rib & Snow Crab Rice Bowl” for 449 TWD. And the salmon miso soup was all-you-can-drink 😋 19:56 Boarding Puyuma train No. 288 Miaoli → Songshan Expected arrival at Songshan Station at 9:26 PM The two-day, one-night island trip is coming to an end Are you, like me, left wanting more? This time, I chose to travel around Taiwan by train Following the railway lines, I rediscovered the land where we grew up — Taiwan The scenery outside the window keeps changing The train window frames the most beautiful views My phone’s camera captures the most touching moments How about you? Would you like to take a train trip around the island? Feel free to share with me in the comments Challenge yourself with a 2-day island trip And bring back full hearts and memories The journey in my heart is not over yet Taking a brief pause Looking forward to the next adventure I’m Emily If you liked today’s video Please subscribe, like, and share And turn on the notification bell See you in the next episode~
