Inca Trail to Machu Picchu | World’s most famous hike (EPIC adventure in 4K)

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu starts at
Km 82 – Piskacuchu, a 2.5 hour drive from Cusco Dozens of tour operators offer Inca Trail hikes to Machu Picchu,
with varying durations and levels of comfort I highly recommend Evolution Treks Peru,
the number one ethical and sustainable tour operator of Peru A suspension bridge crosses the
Urubamba River at the start of the Inca Trail The classic Inca Trail is a section of one of the hundreds
of roads built as the Inca empire expanded in the 15th century The Inca Trail is 43 km (27 mi) long and
takes 4 days and 3 nights, camping every night The Inca Trail can also be completed in just 3 days (which is
shown in this video), although it’s a more challenging experience A maximum of 500 permits are issued for the Inca Trail each
day, over half of which are taken up by guides and the porters After 2 hours, the first Inca site is reached, Patallacta, which was
an ancient Inca check point for the approach to Machu Picchu A couple of Andean condors – which rank
among the largest flying birds in the world – are spotted It’s time for our first lunch
on the Inca Trail with Evolution Treks Coca tea is used on the Inca Trail to prevent altitude sickness,
although its effectiveness has never been truly studied Several check-points are located along the Inca Trail Wayllabamba – located at 3,000 m or 9,842 ft –
is the most popular day 1 campsite on the 4-day Inca Trail We have to hike for another 3 hours until we reach our first
campsite since we’re doing the Inca Trail in 3 days (instead of 4) We pass another campsite while continuing our uphill hike,
Ayapata, which is located at an altitude of 3,300 m (10,827 ft) Evolution Treks brought on the first
women Inca Trail porters in June 2017 Every first day of the month,
Evolution Treks also offers a women only Inca Trail tour The Inca Trail immerses hikers in stunning Andean landscapes The trail goes from cloud forest to rainforest
and passes a handful of stunning Inca ruins We’ve reached our first night’s campsite – Llulluchapampa –
after an elevation gain of 1,000 m (3,280 ft) in one day Llulluchapampa is located at an altitude of 3,800 m (12,467 ft) The staff has set up state-of the-art sleeping and dining tents,
with tables, chairs & comfortable beds (and a shower tent) A delicious multi-course dinner is served An early wake-up call is followed by a hot cup of coca tea Day 2 starts with the ascent to the Inca Trail’s highest point,
thevDead Woman’s Pass, located at 4,200 m (13,779 ft) From Dead Woman’s Pass, the Inca Trail descends to a natural
depression called Pacaymayu Valley, meaning Hidden River A breakfast is offered in the Pacaymayu Valley After breakfast, we start ascending to the second pass of the
trek, the Runcuraccay Pass, at an altitude of 3,000 m (13,123 ft) Along the way to Runcuraccay Pass,
a stop is made at a small Inca site (Runku Raccay) The views from the Runcuraccay Pass are breathtaking After the Runcuraccay Pass, it’s an hour of downhill
hiking to reach the impressive Inca site of Sayacmarca Sayacmarka is an Inca ruin believed to have
been a village and sacred site dedicated to the mountains We have lunch at Choquicocha (3,600 m or 11,800 ft), the
most popular campsite on day 2 of the classic 4-day Inca Trail The meals served by Evolution Treks Peru are simply amazing From Choquicocha, it’s another 90 min
uphill hike to our overnight campsite We’ve reached the campsite for our 2nd night on the Inca Trail,
the Phuyupatamarca campsite, located at 3,680 m (12,073ft) A hot breakfast is offered as the sun rises It’s time for a group photoshoot From Phuyupatamarca campsite,
it’s a five hour downhill hike to Machu Picchu Near the camp site are the Inca ruins
of Phuyupatamarka (“town in the clouds”) Have you ever hiked the Inca Trail?
If so, what was your experience? Leave a comment The real heroes of the Inca Trail are the porters (kudos to them) Along the descent towards Machu Picchu,
a stop is made at the Inca ruins of Intipata It’s time for our last meal on the Inca Trail After lunch, we visit the spectacular Inca ruins of Wiñaywayna Translated to ‘Forever Young’,
the purpose of Wiñaywayna is often debated We’ve reached the Inca Trial’s Machu Picchu checkpoint We’re almost at Intipunku (Sun Gate),
the gateway to Machu Picchu The Sun Gate was a checkpoint for those entering and leaving
Machu Picchu, and a sacral site for offers to Inti (Inca Sun God) We get our first glimpse of Machu Picchu (magical moment) Machu Picchu ranks among the greatest artistic,
architectural and land use achievements anywhere in the world

  7. Incredible…absolutely incredible. THAT is a hike of a lifetime, IMO…one that I intend to make, at some point. Thanks yet again, Doc. Just curious. How well were you able to sleep at night? I would assume quite well, given how peaceful and cozy I imagine it would be at night…and after all of that fresh air and exercise and great food, during the day. But I was wondering if either the cold or the altitude negatively affected your sleep.

P.S. I second your kudos for all of the porters. I certainly hope that they are being fairly compensated for all of their efforts.

  8. A stunning hike and extremely well recorded. What a path. It must have taken a long time to lay that path and where did all those rocks and stones come from to provide it. Just fantastic.

  9. I am impressed by the reputation of the company you chose for this epic trip. You really have a good taste and principles to align such great people with your channel. Respect

I hope one day these two teenagers could write a book about the very special times they have had accompanying the LTE to places most can only dream about. Congratulations and well done. Question – knowing what was ahead of you in terms of the physical challenges did you all do any special training at home in Belgium to be ready ?

Had al het idee dat je/jullie uit België komen.

Gave filmpjes.. genieten er echt van ❤

  21. I hiked the Inca Trail back in 2017, and this was the more traditional four day-three night trek. I had the same coca tea at every stop, and while I cannot vouch for its effectiveness, I can say I never suffered altitude sickness throughout the entire hike to Macchu Picchu. Though perhaps it is also because I was on a Dragoman truck throughout nearly the entire trip from Lima to Cuzco (which included Arequipa and the Nazca Lines) that helped acclimatize me -I never flew directly to Cuzco like some fellow hikers did. However, I made the mistake of wearing brand new hiking boots which had not yet been broken into, so you can imagine the pain my feet were in towards the end…

  22. 16:58 my goodness, this is not camping ⛺️ it’s Glamping. The food looks divine. How do they cook all this in the outdoors? Bravo 👏 to them.
I feel very sorry for the porters that carry the heavy things up so you can enjoy. I hope they get paid well.

  23. Thank you for sharing this experience. You & family are so lucky to have done this in luxury & comfort.
Definitely on my bucket list 🙏🩷
❓❓ Where does one go when you need the toilet?
❓❓They must prep the meals, because who can carry all that water for them to wash veggies? Kudos to the chef’s 👏👏👏
❓❓If there are so many other tours, how do they know where each stops, or what if they both end at sane campsite? ⛺️. Does this happen?
❓❓How much does a luxury trip like this cost please? You should share this. Maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to save $$.
❓❓ Have you done the Camino de Santiago trail? Maybe not as that’s not luxury…?
❓❓ Is there another easier way to get to Machu Picchu without the camping? ⛺️
I HOPE THE PORTERS GET PAID WELL FOR THEIR HARD WORK. 🩷💖🩵
