We leave beautiful Queenstown and head to our next town! Next stop is a town in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park… Surrounded by mountain ranges, Queenstown and its surroundings are a spectacular wilderness as far as the eye can see… Wow, the view is amazing! The Drift Bay area is known for its luxury villas. We’ll stop along the way to enjoy the view. There are many lookout points along the way and we stopped at many different ones, but this one had the most spectacular view on this road! The drive to Te Anau takes about 2 hours Arrive at Te Anau, the gateway to Fiordland National Park
Very happy to be staying in a world heritage site Starting today we will be staying here at Tasman Holiday Parks for 3 nights! Te Anau is a small town with very few accommodations and only a few places left 2 months ago! It was like a cottage room. It had a mini-kitchen with dishes, etc. Toilet, washbasin and shower room
There is a heater in the upper part of the room to protect it from the cold. This room is just for sleeping as we will be left out during the day. We will stay here for 3 nights. It looks like there’s a lounge/laundry/kitchen for everyone to use, so I’ll go there in a bit. Laundry was paid for. Spacious lounge and kitchen
We are well equipped to cook our own meals There was also BBQ space and paid spa facilities We would go shopping for water, food, etc. We will eat dinner while we are out at the supermarket It’s a small town, so the number of restaurants is limited and there is a long wait.
We went to an Italian restaurant where we didn’t have to wait too long. Lovely restaurant with a mural that looks like it was inspired by Te Anau ♥ Lots of kinds of domestic beers. Ordered two pizzas as they only serve pizza during the season.
The pizza was as good as any I’ve had in Italy ♩ Te Anau is a small town with a population of about 3500
It’s quiet, the air is clean, and it feels like you’re at the entrance to the natural world. Phantom bird “”Takahe”” I’m tired from all the traveling today, so I’m going to rest early. After a quick breakfast, we are on our way. Good morning Day10 We are going to Doubtful Sound today, so we will drive to Manapouri first! Manapouri is about a 20 minute drive Parking lot is almost full, Doubtful Sound cruise booked 3 months in advance. It was sold out 2 weeks in advance because of the season.
*Booking site is in the overview section. Check in at least 30 minutes before departure with the name of your reservation and pick up your Boulding Pass I got a boulding ticket.
It looks like we’re going on that boat. Doubtful Sound, the steepest inlet, is a very large fjord, about 10 times the size and three times the length of Milford Sound. Doubtful Sound is not accessible by private travel because there is no overland route.
So it’s a very precious place with unspoiled nature. We have some time before departure, so we’ll have a morning cup of coffee. Good morning, I’m back to work!
It’s Day10 It’s the New Zealand trip turnaround, and I’d like to go to Doubtful Sound today! I have booked a tour with Real NZ Doubtful SoundI hear it’s pretty hard to get to so not many people go Many people say it’s more beautiful than Milford Sound, so I’d like to go to Doubtful Sound since I’ve come all this way. I will go to Milford Sound tomorrow! I won’t be back until later in the evening, so I’m going to enjoy Doubtful Sound for the whole day today! Bye, ♩ I will be on the 10:30 ferry.
This small boat looks like a group tour First I will take this ferry across Lake Maunapolis to the other side of the lake, then transfer to a bus on the other side of the lake to the entrance of Doubtful Sound Going deeper and deeper into nature I was lucky enough to see the moment the rainbow went over Going through the rainbow and into the fjord is too romantic! About an hour cruise across Lake Manapouri to reach the other side of the lake.
Already exciting with a series of spectacular views ♩ The tour was mostly older Europeans and Americans, and we were the only Asians. Arrived at the other side of the river The landscape has changed to black as if we are in a deep forest We’ve arrived at the first point.
From here it looks like we’re going to take another bus or something into the cove At the landing, there was an exhibition space about the history of Manapouri and Doubtful Sound. The bus arrives and we get on From here, we changed to the bus for about an hour on the mountain road

Finally reached the starting point of Doubtful Sound We are now going to get on the boat. We’re going to get on the ferry for the show. Going into Doubtful Sound It’s still raining.

Doubtful Sound, a secluded area of the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. We will experience a natural fjord surrounded by silence. I made drinks in the morning and brought them with me. Many overflowing waterfalls seen only because of the rain Doubtful sound on a grand scale Sometimes the ship rocks so much that you have to hold on to something to stand… When it’s rocking so hard you might as well sit down… You can buy snacks and drinks on board, so I came here to buy them when the shaking calmed down Good coffee in the nature I enjoyed nature in a relaxing time We arrived at the far end of the cove at Doubtful Sound Doubtful Sound, also known as “the sound of silence.”
I feel the beauty of nature in the silence. Mysterious and truly beautiful magnificent fjord Time to feel the great nature in silence with the engine off for 5 minutes. This time of silence listening to the rain, waterfalls and birds was so wonderful. All the charm of Doubtful was in the silence time. We’re going back the way we came. We got soaked but were really impressed by the grand scale of the Doubtful Sound! Disembarking and getting on the bus again Transferring back to the boat and heading back to Manapouri I’m once again realizing what an amazing place I’ve come to when I think I’m deep in those mountains. I’m back from Doubtful Sound The weather has changed quite a bit, rain or shine. It’s still amazing depth! It was a really nice place with lots of untouched nature! It was so nice! I’m going to Milford Sound tomorrow and I’ll be back to say which was better! Really great! Back in the car and heading back to Te Anau! Dinner with what I bought at the supermarket yesterday Hot gratin was too delicious ♩ The temperature difference was so great that I was soaking wet and my body was getting very tired, so I went to bed at 21:00 to prepare for tomorrow.
