It’s such an adventure! What is Route 387?
It runs from Usa City, Oita Prefecture, through Kusu, Oguni, and Kikuchi to Kita-ku, Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Looks absolutely easy!
It’s a very nice summer view of Japan!
We will visit as many places as we can!

Our first stop was Usa Jingu Shrine, our starting point. There are about 110,000 shrines in Japan
Among them, Hachiman is the most numerous
There are 40,600 of them. Usa Jingu Shrine is at the top of the list
One of the three major Hachimangu shrines in Japan A place I wanted to visit once A long walk from the parking lot Let’s go to the shopping street later! This is the torii gate on the north approach. The top is sloping up. There’s nothing in the middle. There’s a black ring. The whole thing is vermilion.
That’s the characteristic of the torii gates at Usa Jingu Shrine. They are all shaped like this.
A large torii gate is being built here. It will be completed in December 2023.
The new torii gate will be completed in the New Year 2024
The height is planned to be 10 meters As we were talking, the big torii gate came into view. It’s so big! The stone where we wash our hands is the largest in Japan. The stone is from my hometown in Yamaguchi Prefecture. This stone is used in the Japanese Diet building. I climbed up. It says, “Couple Stone” on the stone. If you look closely, you will see a triangular stone If a husband and wife stand on the stone holding hands, their love will last forever. I wonder if it works for couples. The “Saidaimon” is in sight.
It was built in 1740. Damage is being repaired.

We arrived at “Bungomori Locomotive Park”. Heat stroke warning is in effect.
I feel like I’m going to boil inside.
But I’m glad I went after all that trouble. The only remaining fan-shaped locomotive depot in Kyushu. (A Japanese train happened to pass by there) You can see the steam locomotive and the engine house. It is very powerful! You can’t ride on it, but you can touch it. The locomotive depot radiates out in a radius of 47.84 meters from the 18.5 meter diameter turntable. The place that supported the development of the country I wonder if this place too will one day crumble
I feel its fragility I’m glad I got to see something so precious I’m off to Oguni now. (I introduced you to the Michelin Guide’s “Yosibu” before.) This restaurant is called “Jersey Ranch Couple”. (I’ll show you the room later) We’re here. I can see steam. There are six hot springs around here. The one we’ll be staying at today is Hagenoyu. This is “Take no Yu”. There are also “Gorozan” and “Jigokudani”.
I want to visit them all! This is great, but what I really want you to see is just up ahead. I’m gonna take a little walk. All the rivers nearby are hot springs.
Be careful not to burn yourself. Beppu and Unzen are safe tourist destinations with fences. This place is completely different. Is there anywhere else in the world like it? Hot springs are boiling out of inhabited houses with a roar! White smoke is billowing out from the ground, pipes, and everywhere in various directions! It would be even more amazing in winter! It was breathtaking! I came back to the Ryokan. A little introduction of the room The rooms are named after rice paddies. That’s why every room has an unusual name When you enter, you’ll find a spacious toilet and washbasin The room was big enough for two Pastries and tea It felt like coming home to my parents’ house The sweets are soft rice cakes You can see the bath from my room Look, look You can take a bath while looking at the mountains and rice paddies. There are roll curtains to blindfold you. Let’s go in now when you can see, rather than when it’s dark and you can’t see. So let’s go in now! The hot spring has been gushing for a long time (used as a large water jar, which was then turned into a bath) The best. Best dinner after being satisfied. (This place is made of barbershop material) Steamed chicken. Steamed for 2 hours in a hot spring
Tender and light taste I could smell a little bit of the hot spring water. Delicious! Kumamoto, you have to try the horse sashimi! Even though I don’t like it, I can eat all the horse sashimi here! The spicy lotus root is also good! The dinner portions are huge!
