ЛАНГКАВИ | Рай в Малайзии! ТРЕВЕЛ ОБЗОР Лангкави | Все, что нужно знать перед поездкой | МАЛАЙЗИЯ

Imagine you are standing on a white beach, surrounded by a turquoise sea and the smell of tropical fruits in the air. This is Langkawi! An island that is not just surrounded by greenery and sun but makes you feel like a part of living nature where every moment is filled with harmony and peace. In this review, you will see not just tourist spots that are worth visiting, I will also share useful and practical information about this island, how to get there how much it costs what is more convenient and how to move around the island cheaper, what to see and where it is more profitable to buy tickets when visiting the main attractions and I will also honestly tell you about the moments that are missed in advertising brochures and tourist guides. Let’s start with basic information about the island. There are more than 800 islands in Malaysia, many of which are located along the coast The capital of Langkawi is the small town of Kuah. This is the main port and bustling business center of the region. Langkawi Island can be translated from Malay as an eagle and marble. That is why the symbol of Langkawi is an eagle. The population of Langkawi is about 100 thousand people. The main part is Malays Chinese and Indians also live there. The language is also Malay, but many locals know Chinese and those involved in tourism also speak English. In the 1980s, the island was declared a duty-free trade zone which led to economic growth and prosperity of Langkawi Langkawi is famous for its beaches with soft white sand and clear sea The beaches here are very clean and cozy some are lively, some are more secluded I will tell you more about the beaches below The climate of Langkawi is tropical, equatorial with hot and humid weather all year round Langkawi is great for a family holiday if you want a relaxed and safe holiday Crime here is low Traffic on Langkawi, as in all of Malaysia, is on the left The traffic is calm, there are almost no traffic jams The roads are good There is no public transport on the island, it is convenient to use a taxi, rent a scooter, bicycle or car The official religion on the island, as in all of Malaysia, is Islam When visiting religious places, you must adhere to the dress code, this is covered shoulders and knees, women must cover their heads A little brief history of Langkawi Langkawi has been inhabited since ancient times – from about 5-6 centuries Locals were engaged in fishing, agriculture and maritime trade A key moment in the history of the island is the legend of a young woman named Mahsuri who was unjustly executed and she cursed the island for 7 generations to remain in poverty and desolation, in which Langkawi subsequently found itself for many years In the 1980s, the country’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad decided to turn Langkawi into a major tourist resort Investments in infrastructure began and Langkawi was granted the status of a duty-free zone Today, Langkawi is one of the most popular resorts in Malaysia, known for its beaches, calm atmosphere and unique nature How to get to Langkawi? Langkawi Island is an archipelago located in the Andaman Sea in northwest Malaysia, about 30 kilometers from its mainland. Therefore, there are two ways to get to Langkawi. The first is a ferry service. Ferries run frequently and this is one of the most affordable ways to get to Langkawi if you are in Malaysia. For us, the second way was more attractive, in terms of convenience – by air. The island has an airport that accepts flights from Kuala Lumpur. This is the most popular route. The flight takes less than an hour. Singapore (flight less than 2 hours). Bangkok and other major cities. We flew to Langkawi from Singapore. Round-trip tickets with luggage cost us 120 euros per person. As for moving around the island itself most locals travel on mopeds and motorcycles. Tourists can also rent them. There is no public transport on the island, as I already mentioned. We moved everywhere either on foot or ordered a taxi. To call a taxi, use the Grab application. This is the Asian version of Uber. Ordering by application will be the most profitable. Of course, you can catch a taxi on the street, then the payment will be by the meter. In Malaysia, taxi prices are very affordable, the cars are normal, and they arrive quickly enough. So, what kind of wardrobe to take with you and what kind of weather awaits tourists on Langkawi. Langkawi Island is located quite close to the equator, it has a tropical climate, with high temperatures and high humidity all year round. The average air temperature is from 25 ° C to 32 ° C. Langkawi has only two seasons. The first is the dry season – lasts from November to March. At this time, there is very little rain and sunny weather almost every day. The second is the rainy season from April to November, when the greatest amount of precipitation falls. In general, the weather for recreation here is favorable all year round. Fluctuations in air temperature are minimal but if there is a choice, it is better, of course, to go to the dry season During these months, rain is extremely rare and the weather is ideal for both relaxation and walking around the island The sea temperature also makes Langkawi a great place for a beach holiday The average annual sea temperature is 29 degrees We vacationed in Langkawi in January, and the sea was about 28 degrees – perfect Let’s talk a little about the cuisine of this island The cuisine of Langkawi, like the whole of Malaysia, was formed under the influence of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Thai cuisines Local dishes are distinguished by a large number of spices and herbs So, the most popular dish of the local cuisine is nasi lemak This is rice cooked in coconut milk can be served with fried anchovies, boiled egg, peanuts, cucumber and chili sauce Fried rice with chicken or seafood will be called nasi goreng You can also find roti canai everywhere These are Indian flatbreads, usually served with curry Satay is offered everywhere These are small skewers of chicken, beef or lamb, they are usually served with nut sauce Of the soups, the most popular is Thai tom yum soup with shrimp or chicken. Popular in both Malaysia and Indonesia, laksa soup is delicious, but very spicy. What is noteworthy is that even the well-known fast food restaurant in Langkawi differs from the restaurants of the chain in other countries. Here, McDonald’s is adapted to local tastes and cultural traditions. And on the menu, you will find unique positions of the traditional Malay dishes I listed above. But the classic offer is also presented here. The main thing to remember about the local cuisine is that almost all dishes will be very spicy and also contain a lot of oil and sugar. It is better to ask for no chili, not spicy right away.
Then there is a chance that you will be able to eat it. If we talk about drinks, the main national product is Teh Tarik tea. It is served everywhere. This is black tea with a lot of condensed milk Keep in mind that it is very sweet. Also, in many places, coffee is served by default with one-third condensed milk. Very sweet. You will probably be interested in trying local street food but take into account that such there is no variety of street food here, like in Thailand, for example. Where can you get acquainted with the local street food? Welcome to the night market. Langkawi night markets – I wouldn’t call it a gastronomic paradise but these are the places where you can cheaply and deliciously taste Malaysian cuisine. In fact, this is one market that tours the entire island. There are 7 sites on the island and each day of the week has its own specific place on the island. The opening hours of such a market are evening, you need to come after 18.00-19.00 in the evening, not earlier Most of the sellers begin to close after 22.00. So we visited this market in the Cenang beach area and in this location it was held on Thursday So, what will you see when you arrive at the place? Many tents with a variety of food rice, chicken, fresh fish, pancakes, kebabs, salads, seafood, various snacks, fruits, freshly squeezed juices and sweets. There are also several stalls with souvenirs, clothes and children’s toys. The prices here will definitely please. Overall, it’s worth going, it’s quite unusual, this is not a tourist attraction, there will be a lot of locals. You will be able to taste Malay cuisine, the names of the dishes of which you will most likely later google and plunge into the atmosphere of local life So, smoothly, we move from bread to circuses. After all, this is where all the magic of the island lies. There are no outstanding historical or cultural attractions on Langkawi but there are many natural attractions and beauties, so there is something to see and do on the island. The Sky Bridge and the Cable Car leading to it This is one of the most spectacular attractions on Langkawi. And this is a must-see for guests of the island. Here you will find breathtaking views and a feeling of flying in the clouds. You will literally touch the The cable car starts in the Oriental Village at the foot of the mountain The climb takes about 20 minutes There are several types of cabins, standard for 6 people with a transparent floor and a panoramic view The cabins rise almost vertically along the mountain slope and when you look down, it takes your breath away The views are fantastic green jungle, blue bays, neighboring islands, in clear weather you can even see the coast of Thailand There are two observation decks along the cable car route with stunning views of the island The first is the middle station, you can get off, walk along the observation deck and take photos and the top station with an observation platform and an exit to the Sky Bridge The Sky Bridge is a curved suspension bridge 125 meters long located at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level It connects the two peaks of Mount Mat Cincang The bridge offers incredibly beautiful panoramic views of the island, the Andaman Sea, mountains and forests From practical advice I advise you to come on weekdays and in the morning so you can avoid long queues It is better to visit this place in clear weather, and keep in mind that at this altitude it will be cooler than below Seven Wells Waterfall Telaga Tujuh This is one of the most popular natural attractions on the island of Langkawi This picturesque place is located in the Pantai Kok area A staircase of more than 600 steps leads to the waterfall, which takes about 20-30 minutes to overcome On the way to the top, there are observation decks with views of the waterfall and the surrounding area The waterfall consists of seven cascades that form seven natural pools The upper pools are at an altitude of about 480 meters above sea level When going to the waterfall, be sure to take towels and swimsuits with you You can swim in these pools, the water in them is very warm According to local legends, these pools are a bathing place for fairies with mystical healing properties The waterfall is most beautiful in the rainy season from September to November, when the reservoir is full of water In the dry season from December to March, the waterfall may be less impressive We were just in the dry season, as I said, in January there was water in the waterfall, and in the pools I highly recommend taking drinking water and sun protection with you There are no cafes or shops on the territory Also, be careful with the local monkeys and do not leave your things unattended They are everywhere here, different, and if you look closely at the bushes and trees you will definitely see them The waterfall is available for visiting at any time of the day And it is absolutely free The waterfall and pools are surrounded by mangrove jungles which give this place a sense of mystery If you like hiking or long walks, then you have a unique opportunity to walk through the mangrove jungle near the Seven Wells Waterfall Special paths are laid through the jungle, allowing you to study mangrove ecosystems and observe the local flora and fauna This is just such a challenge, especially in hot weather The climb takes about 2-3 hours It is difficult to get lost, periodically you will come across signs with directions on where to go next There are few tourists in the jungle, the higher you go, the less likely you are to meet tourists. We climbed to the very top, and we still met a couple of the same crazy tourists. When you meet them, you will most likely be greeted, since there are few extreme sports enthusiasts who decided to undertake such a difficult climb in such heat But satisfaction is definitely guaranteed when you reach the top point. The main thing is to correctly calculate your strength Keep in mind that it will be very hot. Take enough water with you. Be sure to choose comfortable closed shoes and insect repellents. The descent will be much faster and a dip in the pools after the descent will be especially pleasant. Since we have touched on the topic of active recreation in Langkawi, there is an excellent amusement park, Skytrex, offering rope courses (ziplines) passing through the tropical jungle. Skytrex offers 3 levels of difficulty. From beginner to advanced, when you will need to overcome more difficult obstacles. The tests alternate with exciting flights on a zipline at the height of the treetops. Tickets can be purchased on site . Other I will tell you more about the options for purchasing tickets. On site, you will be given all the necessary equipment and gloves. You will definitely be given instructions at the beginning. Of the important things, it is simply necessary to have comfortable sports shoes here (sandals or flip-flops are not suitable). Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult People whose weight exceeds 100 kg will not be allowed to visit. The route takes about 2 hours, depending on the chosen difficulty. I recommend it to everyone . There will be a lot of emotions, this is a very cool entertainment for both adults and children. Of course, first of all, Langkawi Island is popular due to its white sand beaches. There are about twenty beaches on the island, including both large and secluded areas of the coast. Each of them is unique in its own way. The most popular beach in Langkawi is Pantai Cenang. It is a wide coastline with the cleanest fine sand, beautiful vegetation along the beach and picturesque views. The water here is calm and clean. And despite its popularity, the beach is not crowded with tourists. The atmosphere of a relaxing holiday is preserved here. Many hotels are located here, have their own access to the beach You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas This is where the main entertainment of Langkawi is concentrated cafes, restaurants, shops, rental points for water sports equipment you can ride jet skis, gyro scooters or go parasailing and fly on a parachute A very convenient beach for both relaxation and entertainment The next most popular beach is Pantai Tengah It is located next to Cenang Beach, but it is calmer, quieter, there are fewer people and the atmosphere is more relaxed It is more romantic The beach strip here is also wide There are several good hotels and restaurants An incredibly picturesque place is Tanjung Rhu Beach There are few people, so privacy and romance are guaranteed to you If you want to have even fewer people, you can go to Pasir Tengkorak Beach this is a very beautiful beach surrounded by jungle Take into account that this is a wild beach, watch your things carefully the monkeys living here are interested in tourists’ things and like to steal food and drinks When the purpose of the visit to Langkawi Island is in sunbathing and swimming, it is important to remember that jellyfish live on the island. This is what they look like If you look into the water, you can see them They are a seasonal phenomenon, especially noticeable from November to February During this period, you can find different types of jellyfish on some beaches These are mainly small jellyfish that cause a slight burning sensation, like nettles or a mosquito bite These are the ones that bit us, since we were on Langkawi in January But in rare cases, there may be more dangerous species that cause severe burns Basically, hotels warn visitors about the presence of jellyfish, so when checking in, it makes sense to ask at the hotel reception about the current situation with jellyfish in the sea Since we are already talking about hotels Tourism in Langkawi is actively developing and there is a wide choice of hotels to suit every taste and budget. Most hotels are concentrated on the lively Pantai Cenang beach and nearby on the quieter Pantai Tengah beach. There are luxury hotels offering a high level of service picturesque views, swimming pools, private beaches, spas, high-class restaurants, etc. There are a couple of boutique hotels and eco-hotels on the island, located in the jungle or on a farm. There are mid-priced hotels. They will also have good breakfasts and a convenient location near the beach. There is also a choice among budget hotels. Therefore, everything here depends on your preferences and your wallet. We stayed in a hotel that was recommended to us, based on personal experience, by Malaysian friends from Kuala Lumpur who regularly vacation in Langkawi. If you are interested, I can make a separate video review of the hotel where we stayed, and there I will tell you more and share the necessary information Write in the comments if you are interested. If you are looking for information about the island before traveling to Langkawi many sources will indicate that there is a Duty Free Zone everywhere. Yes, indeed, Langkawi is an official duty-free zone which makes the island attractive for shopping. The Duty-Free Zone on Langkawi covers the entire island. What does this mean for tourists? Goods are cheaper than in other parts. Malaysia There is no need to go through a special customs zone, you can buy duty-free right in regular stores and malls on the island, it is available to everyone no matter whether you are a tourist or a local. In general, I cannot share the enthusiastic reviews of Duty Free Langkawi, which are many on the Internet Firstly, this is a very limited choice, compared to the same Kuala Lumpur. The range is very poor. Some new products, for example, from cosmetics or clothes, cannot be found here. In my humble opinion, there are outdated collections of dubious quality. And if you expect to see modern malls on the island, no, here the shopping centers look a little different. The interior of some of them is more reminiscent of a souvenir shop or a wholesale warehouse. If you still set yourself the goal of shopping in Langkawi then keep in mind that Duty Free shops are scattered throughout the island in the city of Kuah, in tourist places and even on the beaches, for example, in Pantai Cenang. There are many shops in Oriental Village. Some shops, knowing that tourists do not compare prices, are decent. they inflate prices Sometimes the difference for the same product was very significant Before buying something, compare prices at least in stores located nearby What tourists mainly buy is alcohol, cosmetics, perfumes, sweets, cigarettes and clothes We almost always take a separate suitcase on trips for purchases for ourselves, relatives, gifts for friends and acquaintances and of course, Malaysia was no exception our suitcase returned from the trip traditionally full of what exactly we brought, what purchases we were satisfied with, and which ones we would not buy a second time I will tell you in a separate video, for the same practical travelers as we are and I will tell you what is worth bringing and more, and what is not worth spending money on or if you only buy it as an experiment How to pay for purchases in Langkawi Do they accept cards on the island? Yes, they do, but cash is more popular. You can definitely pay with a card in hotels and supermarkets without any problems but souvenir shops, taxis and local markets only accept cash. You can exchange money for the local currency – Malaysian ringgits – on the island without any problems. There are many exchange offices Compare rates, if you have dollars or euros, and the bills are in good condition, you can ask for a better rate. Many exchange offices go for it At one of the currency exchange offices, they tried to shorten our money, perhaps by accident so count the money you were given without leaving the cash register and then you won’t have to prove anything. Finishing the topic of shopping, let’s return to the question of where it is more profitable to buy tickets to those attractions on the island that are not free. I always check the cost in several places. This can be buying tickets at the box office. Most likely, tickets will cost more here but there are exceptions when there are special offers on site. The second option is buying tickets on the online site of the attraction. Discounts are sometimes offered here, for example, for early booking. And the third option is purchasing tickets on platforms for booking tours, for example, Kluk. Such platforms often offer better prices, discounts, or combined tickets for several attractions. Promotions and promo codes are also possible. However, it is important to consider additional fees or commissions that may be included in the price on the platform. My advice is that it is best to compare the prices of all the above options and make a purchase where the best price is for your dates. So, let’s summarize the information about this picturesque island of Langkawi – one of the most beautiful and amazing resort islands in Malaysia. This is a popular tourist destination that several million tourists choose every year to enjoy its beaches, waterfalls, and outdoor activities. Langkawi is an ideal place for those who do not like crowds of tourists. There are snakes here, both harmless and poisonous, but they live mainly in forests and jungles. If you are going to go to jungle, for example, we went better to wear closed shoes Near hotels, beaches and tourist places the chance to meet them is extremely small Jellyfish also live in Langkawi There is a high risk of meeting them from January to June There are different jellyfish here But mostly harmless and weak-stinging species We, as I already said, were bitten, unpleasant, but no additional measures were required except getting out of the water There are a lot of mosquitoes on the island, take repellents with you Well, friends, that’s the end of our review This is it – Langkawi Island Thanks to this island for welcoming us with great weather, surprising us with its picturesque beaches and giving us a lot of vivid impressions If you liked this video, put a like, we will be very pleased if you share your impressions in the comments and most importantly – do not forget to subscribe! See you in the next video it will only get more interesting!
